HELP! Just upgraded to latest iTunes and some Preferences are missing???

Hi folks. First post here.
I have a Dell Desktop that's provided by my company as my own office computer.
I don;t have access to updating or downloading programs, as all of that is handled by the corporation from a remote loctaion.
The other day I requested they upgrade me to the latest version of iTunes, as mine was a couple of years old.
They did so, and I am now getting used to the new version.
Here's my problem: some of the functions I had grown acustomed to seem to be missing. If they are included in my version, I sure can't find them nor can figure out where they're hiding!
Specifically, I cannot find anyway to manually select what format I'd like to import music files into, nor can I choose the parameters on how I'd liek to convert existingt files.
For instance, I have some large MP3 files (192 KPS), that I need to convert to 128 KPS versions for the purpose of e-mailing them at a smaller size. I cannot change the parameters on this.
If I hit "Convert to MP3" while on a selected file, it automatically does it at 160 KPS, which I assume is the default.
In the older version of iTunes, I'd just go to Preferences, tab down to Advanced, and there I'd be offered a chance to select all sorts of options (WAV, AIFF, various compression rates of MP3, etc...).
Now, although iTunes Help tells me that's still where I'd find those controls, when I go to Preferences and select "Advanced", I get only the most basic functions, none opf which mention Importing or Converting whatsoever.
They're not visible, but grayed out - they're not even there!
What am I missing?
How can I locat these controls?
I need to have the option of changing the manner in which I import or convert files regularly to fit different needs, and I can't fathom that I'd be able to get much use out of iTunes without that ability.
If ANYONE out there can help me with this, or has experienced a similar problem, please let me knwo. This is driving me crazy...

latest version loads the main banner of page then takes too much time loading the content of page > I have even had to stop the page loading and refresh before it will load properly> I did not experience this before installing the latest version the pages used to load insantaneously. It could be caused by a Firewall. Disable your internet security and then see if QT will open.
Are you an administrator account? It could be a permissions issue. Open the User Accounts control panel to see what type of account you have. Open the QT control panel to File Types. Does it show programmatically set? If so that will indicate permissions have been set by an administator.
Also are there too many applications running at once or loading at start up? Look down at the bottom right corner of the screen, is it loaded with icons? If so close them all out and stop them from running at start up, then see if QT will open. The only application that should load at start up is your internet security and maybe volume control, anything else you can open as needed.
If none of the above is a solution than I can help you uninstall QT and install, if so what version of QT is on the computer now. Open the QT control panel and click on About QuickTime

Just upgraded to latest iTunes for Windows. Rebooted the PC as required. When I bring up iTunes I get a pop message saying "An unknown error occured (-42110)". What does that mean?

Nevermind. I just renamed the folder on my mac and synced it again and everything is now in its proper place.

Please Help: Just upgraded to Xcode 4 and having problems

Hi folks, I developed a couple of iPhone apps before Xcode 4 was available ( think it was version 3.3.2 ). So I was working on a new app last night with my old Xcode and it was working fine in simulator but I couldn't get my iPhone provisioned because it had an OS that was not supported by that version of Xcode. So I just upgraded to Xcode 4 and now I am having lots of problems.
1. I cannot build/run the apps I developed in Xcode 3.3.2, any scheme I select results in 'The selected run destination is not valid for this action' - all of the simulator options are grayed out.
2. The new app builds and runs in simulator but when I try to run it on my provisioned device it says it starts running but then immediately stops running, there are no errors reported that I can find.
Not sure what to try, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Quick Update, when I unexpanded the Project on the left-side menu I now see this message when trying to run the app on the provisioned iPhone:
Target Integrity
Missing SDK in target projectname
I understood how to fix this in older Xcode but the new system is foreign to me and I am unclear of what I need to do.

After installing ios8 my iCloud setting is stuck in the upgrading mode, and some documents are missing from my pages app.

After installing the IOS8 on my ipad2, the iCloud drive is stuck in the upgrading mide. I am also missing some documents that were in my Pages app. Can anyone help my fix this issue?

I have just encountered a similar issue and I think it might have been the same as one you are getting. Turns out, I accidentally switched from my local store to US Store (App Store gives you a pop-up offering that), and purchases are tracked separately between those, causing all your purchases to become invisible.
Go to Settings, log out of App Store, log in again, and you should receive a pop-up saying that your account is associated with a different store, offering to switch back. Now all apps are back and available for download.

Since 7.0.1 upgrade my podcasts and some playlists are missing

Upgrading to latest itunes and ipod software kills ipod

Today my son has upgraded his itunes (on XP laptop) and ipod software to the latest versions. He has a 120 GB iPod classic and we've all been using ipods/itunes for many years. Since installing the updates he has been unable to synch his ipod. When we plug the ipod into the laptop it comes back with the error message "The ipod 'name' cannot be synched. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". I have then tried to follow all of the trouble-shooting advice on the Apple website including the 5 Rs. The first 4 didn't fix the problem and when I got to no 5 (RESTORE) this wouldn't work either. The restore software downloaded from the site but after looking like it was going to proceed, iTunes returned another error message "<sons name> iPod cannot be restored because it contains files that are in use by another application". I checked that it wasn't trying to synch at the same time as restoring and could see no obvious reason why the restore wouldn't work. I am now at a complete loss as to what to do next. Can anyone help? I am surprised that there is nowhere on the Apple support site where you can find a list of all error messages and what you should do in response. Well not one that I could find anyway! Hope someone out there can shed some light.

Try putting the iPod in disk mode before connecting it.
1. Reset the iPod by pressing and holding the Menu and Select buttons simultaneously until it reboots.
2. Press and hold the Select and Play/Pause buttons simultaneously for several seconds until the display changes. I believe it will say something like "Okay to disconnect." Then connect the iPod to your computer.

Just Upgraded to Snow Leopard and some kits in my Garage Band are missing

So I finished upgrading a few days ago. And yesterday I went to hop onto GarageBand and saw that the kit's I had from Leopard from when I first got my mac weren't installed so I installed and when I got on after the install they were all missing and gone. So...I haven't tried it yet but should I throw in my second install disk, will that get my missing kit's back or what should I do?

I also noticed (having attached my first Midi device so that I can use Garageband) that a bunch of instruments is "greyed" out with a link arrow inviting upgrade to the full instal version. Rather than do that over the internet, I did a custom instal from my iLife'09, which took a while but seemed to go ok.
Then when I tried to access the "greyed" instruments, the arrow link to the online upgrade was still required - so I clicked "yes" to that and left it installing overnight. Next time I launch Garageband, the additional instruments were no longer "greyed" out, they were missing altogether.
The custom instal from the disk and the online upgrade have therefore left me with the basic set of instruments and no obvious way to go further. What have I done?

Downloaded my MBP RD from time capsule into my new McBook Pro and some application are missing... including iTunes!

I recently purchased the new McPro. I was using Time Machine to back up my MBP RD. I then mirated my MBP RD from my Time Capsule into my Mac Pro. Lots o applicaitons (Adobe things and others did not migrate.) Ok, that's fine... I reinstalled all those separately. Now my iTunes doesn't open either. When I search for it on Spotlight it comes up as an application but when I press open I get a "i-Tunes can not open due to a problem" and the followoing Error"/ (see attached.) I'm up to date on the software and for some reason I can't find iTunes. Should I just reinstall or if there's a more significant problem since I can not even see iTunes on my Launchpad menu.

I solved the problem by just reinstalling iTunes. That seems to have solved the problem.

Help! I just imported my vacation photos and now they are missing in iPhoto! Is there any way to retrieve them?

I just "successfully imported" over 300 vacation photos. It asked me if I wanted to delete them from my camera and I said yes. I've done this hundreds of times over the past several years. Afterwards, I got sidetracked looking in another photo event and then did something on my phone (unrelated) when I noticed my screen went black. I figured I needed to charge my laptop, so I got the cord and plugged it in. After restarting, I went back into iPhoto and under my events there is a thumbnail for each day from vacation, but a generic black and white picture of a palm tree and no pictures in any of the events. My last import is of the pictures I loaded before this batch. I've looked everywhere and can't find them! This has never happened before! Is there any way to find the photos and restore them to iPhoto?

a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card -- I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos
You Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database
