HELP, Keep getting CMOS Checksum Bad message...

I had made a change in bios that i guess i should'nt have, i disabled internal VGA graphics or some crap, next thing i know the computer stopped sending a signal to the monitor, so then i used the reset system config method by changing some jumpers oh by the way i have a K9N2G NEO motherboard, anyway long story short i keep getting a CMOS checksum bad message, i can load windows by pressing f2 where it says load defaults, but then when i try to open anything besides windows explorer, and internet explorer, i see the hourglass for a second and then nothing else happens i dont know what to do at allll

Hello!
Please list your components. Include the PSU.
CMOS... message is quite normal if you cleared properly. However, I would like you to do it yet again. This time pull the power cable before entering the system. Use the manual for guidance, to find the correct jumper. - Yes, I know it feels like cheating to use the manual, but it can save time.
The hourglass is a different story. We might cut that story short with the clearing of CMOS.
After clearing CMOS you have to enter date, time, what you boot from, and possibly the speed out from the processor. Until we know what processor and memory you got we can't say very much there.

  • Cmos checksum bad when bios update

WHen i try to update the bios i always get "Cmos checksum bad" after the computer restarts. I have both tried to use the live update in windows mode, and tried to update directly in bios mode using usb-stick. I get "Cmos checksum bad".
I have also "MSIHQ USB Bootable Tool and BIOS Helper" but that dident work at all. the images dident work, not even the backup it made (piece of crap software).
    What is the problem????

If the update was good you will get the 'CMOS checksum error'. You need to clear CMOS, remove PSU from AC power and then clear CMOS.

  • My husband forgot his apple id password but the system won't allow him to reset it - keep getting a timed out message.  Help!

Of course, after he'd tried to reset it, I found the original password.  But that now doesn't work and we can't reset the password.  We can't even "find" the ID.  We keep getting a timed out message, no matter what we try.  Since he has no working Apple ID, I'm using mine to ask this question.  Possibly relevant - he is NOT a big app user.  I set up the account for him when he first got his iPhone a couple of years ago and he has only a few apps installed.  So the card details may have expired but, of course, he can't update them either.  He recently updated to the latest IOS (6.1.3) and it was when finishing the installation that he ran into the problems with forgetting his password.
Short of creating a new ID, does anyone have any bright ideas?

Call Apple Care for your country and request help resetting the password.

  • 0251 error system CMOS checksum bad

A couple days ago, I turned on my laptop (Satellite A105-S4201) and it send me to a black screen with some information and the warning: 0251 system CMOS checksum bad. It now sends me to this black screen with the warning every time I turn on the computer and every time it comes back from hibernate. I have tried leaving it on for 24 hours to charge the battery but this hasn't worked. I've also installed the BIOS 6.00 and I still get the same error.
When I go to setup, the time and date and everything is all correct; I've reset defaults and keep getting this message. It doesn't ask for a password, it just gives me the 0251 error.
I've had this computer for almost 4 years and have never had any problems before. I read somewhere that it could be a problem with the CMOS battery, but I also read that they usually last for about 10 years. If I do have to replace it, where could I go and how much would it cost?
Any ideas on how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Dantheman,
Try to reseat the CMOS battery first, or better replace it with a new one. You need to go to Sony's Authorized Service Center or a local technician if you're not comfortable doing this.
    Thanks,
    Vincent

  • T410 - how to recharge backup battery after - ERROR 0251 System CMOS checksum bad

    Hey people
I would like to know how to recharge the backup battery ( internal one, keeping clock and date etc. )
    i got the
Error 0251 System CMOS checksum bad— Default configuration used.
message and after looking at the T400 manual they write what to do:
Charge the backup battery for more than 8 hours by connecting the ac adapter.
ok sounds good, but i cant figure out how to properly charge it,
do i need to put the normal battery pack out and then attach it to the AC adapter, or not?
Does the laptop need to be running or will it be charged also turned off?
i would really appreciate if u could help me out and tell me the proper way to recharge!!
    thanks already,
    cheers,
    Andi

    Hello and welcome,
I didn't know that the backup battery was rechargeable.  I don't think it is.  You might be better off to just replace it.
The  Hardware Maintenance Manual page 80 shows how to access it.  According to the System Service Parts T410, the FRU number is 02K7078.  They should be easy to find and inexpensive.

    Hi all
    Pushing up this topic.
We got the same issue on two A57 9704-7KG after System Update. It think a BIOS update was there as well.
We've also changed the batteries but the BIOS won't save the settings.
Is there any possibility to fix that or bring back the previous BIOS version?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings, System CMOS Checksum bad

    Hello everybody,
Can help anyone to resolve my problem.
I have an Thinkpad W520 (42823FG), BIOS 8BET60WW 1.4        When I disconect AC power and remove battery and connect again, I see this message on screen:
"Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings, System CMOS Checksum bad
Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter Setup"
Is this a system board problem or CMOS battery problem ?
    Thank you

    Hello and welcome,
It's probably (hopefully) just the CMOS battery.  The easiest way to find out is to just replace that battery.
Page 85 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual:
    Hardware Maintenance Manual
Here's an example of the battery.  I'm not recommending (or not) this vendor:

  • ACS SE 1112 CMOS Checksum Bad

Ran recovery disc 3.3 to wipe out ACS for re-deployment into another network and all I get now is "CMOS Checksum Bad
    Press F1 to Run SETUP
Press F2 to load default values and continue". Needless to say, F1, F2 have no effect. Any ideas?

First make sure you are using correct recovery CD. Like if the model is ACS1112 then we need to use 1112 recovery and NOT 1113 or 1111.
If still issue is there and that seems to be a bad appliance, you need to get it replaced.

  • CMOS Checksum Bad ...

    Howdy chaps,
Got my K8N Diamond Plus today, first thing it said when I booted up a new rig with it was:
CMOS Checksum bad - Press F1 to setup or F2 to load default values.
I pressed F2, everything has since worked fine.  But of note, whenever I reset the CMOS, it goes back to that and I need to press F2 once more.
Did anyone else have this issue?  Is my battery dying?  Do I need to send this bad boy back to ZipZoomFly?

What's so hard to understand .
clear cmos erases it/all data , no valid checksum exist after this .
cmos is then loaded with bios defaults from the bios chip , but checksum is still not valid until cmos is saved .
Only way to get valid checksum again it to save cmos settings from the "cmos setup menu" .
bios and cmos is two different things . cmos resides in the nvidia chipset .
But why didn't I get the same error message on an A8N32-SLI?  Do Asus just hide it, or automatically load defaults upon resetting the CMOS..?
