  • NI Update Service: Upgrades & Service Packs: LabVIEW 2012 FPGA Module Xilinx Tools 10.1

    Hi,
I downloaded / installed the newest LV 2012 release - everythin fine so far (its great )
NI-Update Service proposed the installation of a service pack - download and installation worked too.
NI-US also suggests to update the Xilinx tools for the FPGA module, but the download is not working. Seems like the download-link is broken??
    Any suggestions?
Another interesting question: I live in Austria (German speaking), but we use Windows & LV entirely in English in our company. The NI-US however is heavily localized - even the item description is in German. While this is OK for me, I still wonder if I could change it to English too.

    Hi Benjamin,
OK, I see, if the PC doesn't have any Xilinx tools installed at all, then Update Service will not offer you the update. It only displays upgrades to software that is already installed.
This log from the other PC shows that the Xilinx 10.1 update fails to download, as your message said initially, but unfortunately it doesn't say anything more.
We released a bunch of new updates last week, and since then there have been a few cases like this, but it doesn't seem widespread or easily reproducible. I can see in our server reports that other users successfully downloaded this update yesterday.
I attached a downloader file that you can try. Unzip the file and run the exe. All it does is point to the same download location that Update Service is using to download this file. If the downloader works, then the problem is with Update Service. If the downloader doesn't work, then we'd know that something on our web servers isn't delivering this file properly.
Also, if you happen to have any HTTP traffic monitoring software (like Fiddler), I'd be interested to know what it says is happening during the file download request.

  • NI LabVIEW 2013 FPGA Module Xilinx Tools 10.1 Download Troubles

I am trying to download the  Xilinx Tools 10.1 to use with a 9113 chassis in LV2011.  Based on this white paper the compiler below should work just fine.  The problem is I can't get it to download all the way.
I can't seem to get past ~336MB using the standard or NI downloader.  Any ideas?  Anybody else having this problem?

Well... on the bright side, you don't want 10.1 anyway!
    Virtex-5 LX50 <- REQUIRES Xilinx 14.4.
10.1 is only for Virtex-II devices! (...after LabVIEW 2009 that is, just so everyone reading this knows).

  • 2012 FPGA Upgrade Procedure

I am trying to upgrade my Professional Development Environment from Labview 2011 to 2012.
Is there a clear explaination of what software I need for the FPGA module? In particular I seem to struggle with getting a new compile Worker up and running.
I see several Labview 2012 FPGA related files in the download section, but am confused as to what get used to set up the my development computer and then what gets used to install the Compile Worker on a remote computer.
This all worked for me under 2011.
    Thanks

    Hi Rick,
I'm not sure I exactly understand what problem you are having, but I'll try to give you some direction.  You'll want to install LabVIEW 2012, then LabVIEW FPGA and LabVIEW Real Time Modules if you have Real Time available to you.  Finally, if you are trying to compile something you've developed in LabVIEW 2012, you will want to make sure that you have Xilinx Compile Tools 13.4 for LabVIEW 2012 installed on your computer as well.
After you get all that installed, you'll want to install NI-RIO 12.  After a reboot, you should be able to compile to your local compile server.  If you haven't installed the 13.4 compile tools, that is probably the cause of the issue you are seeing.  I hope this helps.

  • Spartan 3E with Labview 2012 (32 bit) on WIndows 7 64-bit - Error Code: -310602 NI-COBS: Unable to communicate with device over communication cable.

Thanks for the info, Kyle.  I will probably try to find an older 32-bit XP machine.  VM is just not an option for me right now.

    Hello everybody,
I am trying to use the DIgilent Spartan 3E board with Labvew 2012 SP1 32 bit.  I am able to compile the example code for LED shift.  I am however unable to transfer code to the FPGA.  I get the following error message:
    Error Code: -310602
NI-COBS:  Unable to communicate with device over communication cable.
Please verify that the cable is connected to a supported device and that the appropriate drivers are installed.
My system configuration is as follows:
Windows 7 (64 bit) on Dell XPS laptop.
    Labview 2012 SP1 (32 bit)
    Labview FPGA 2012 SP1
Labview 2012 FPGA support for Spartan3E
    Xilinx 13.4 tools
DEFB LV FPGA 2012sp1 support installer
Xilinx USB cable driver v1.3 installed.
I took all the precautions mentioned by others on this forum and others, mainly that the cable must be disconnected before installing the Xilinx cable driver. All software and drivers were installed correctly.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled the entire Labview software set I had.  I still get the same error.
    A few other questions:
    1.  Is the Xilinx cable different from a regular USB cable of the same configuration ?
    2.  When I program the FPGA I only have the USB cable connected between my computer and the Spartan 3e board.  Should any other cable be connected ?
    3.  What should be the correct jumper settings for J1 - JP30 (especially J30, J11, JP9, JP6, JP7, etc) ?
I have been at this or over 3 days trying to figure it out.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • FPGA Module F1 patch update failing installation

NI's update service informed me that there is an urgent patch available for the FPGA module I recently installed.  When I run the installer, I get a message that the 2012 FPGA module must first be installed for the update and the installer exits.  The 2012 FPGA module is installed and activated according to the NI License Manager and FPGA tools are available on the pallettes.  The path to my install directory is default (C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\..) and I have rebooted since the installation.  Any ideas?

    Hi nlight,
Could you try to download it and install it manually from this link.

  • How to create a pushbutton delay in the FPGA module in Labview 8.2

I am a very inexperienced programmer of Labview, and I have what I thought would be a simple problem. I have a CompactRIO system that utilizes Labview 8.2 as well as RT and FPGA modules. I am running an end of line tester that uses a pushbutton to start the test. I am looking to force an operator to hold the test start pushbutton for one second before testing begins. If the pushbutton is released before the second is up, the test will not start. In the FPGA module, I cannot figure out how to accomplish this. I have tried using both flat sequence and while loops, but I cannot get the program to work as stated above. With the flat sequence there is not a way, that I could see, to break out of the sequence should the pushbutton be released. Using the while loop, I was closer to a solution, but could not get the program to read the input consistently. I did verify that the 24Vdc signal is getting to the input card whenever the pushbutton is pressed. The program worked fine without trying to add the delay when I was just looking for a transistion to 24Vdc on the input card when the pushbutton was pressed.
    Any ideas?  Thanks!

Here's how you might do it with a button on-screen in LabVIEW for Windows.  If you need more specific help, post your code, or a small portion of it that demonstrates the bit that you can't get working.  (The snippet is in LabVIEW 2009 since that's what I'm using, but the attached VI is saved for 8.2)

  • How can I install (download) a Labview FPGA code onto Altera FPGA chip using Labview FPGA module?

    Hi there
Guys i'm a very new labview user (PhD student), my project is about ( design and implementation of a high speed-yet sophisticated system using Labview environment then install this project's code (using Labview FPGA module) onto Altera-made FPGA chip).
so kindly, can any body help me in this?...is there any way to connect labview with Altera FPGA?...please anything would be said 'd be of great benifits
    thanks a lot in advance.

as previously mentioned, labview fpga only supports national instruments targets utilizing xilinx fpgas. the hdl generated by labview fpga is encrypted and cannot be used to synthesize a design outside the labview fpga design flow.
however, if you must use labview for your project, it might be possible for you to design the system in labview and use one of the labview embedded modules ( http://www.ni.com/embedded )to generate c code which you can then port to systemc and compile for the altera fpga. i'm not saying it will be easy, but it should be possible.

  • Labview 2010 Student Edition, will it work with the Labview FPGA module and Xilinx Spartan 3E??

    Just as the title states.
I did a search here on compatibility, but I am coming up short with not much to show for it.
I have Labview 2010 student edition, 32bit and 64 bit. I am trying to do a Senior Design project for my undergrad, and I am having some issues.
I was able to download the Support for the Xilinx Spartan 3E and Labview FPGA.
I install it, it runs through the unzipping process, installs, and then mysteriously I cannot find it. I have looked through my programs list and it is not listed. I open both editions of LabView and I find ABSOLUTELY NOTHING indicating that either one has ANYTHING to do with FPGA.
Did I install it wrong? Or is it just not supported in the studend version of Labview???
    Can someone help me, please?

What about the trial version? Any chance of it being on there?
I think everything is available for download, and without activation it will be in trial mode and you have about a month (?) before the trial expires.
A trial version of the FPGA module is available for download here. I have no idea if it would work with the student version.
I would recommend to talk to your local NI sales representative for advice. Good luck.

    Thanks

    Arkolbus-
It sounds like the compiler is having some trouble creating a folder that it needs to generate the bitfile.  First, check all of the usual things: are you an administrator? do you have worte access to the "FPGA Bitfiles" folder in your project?
If it looks like you should be able to write the file, you can try posting your project (zipped) and let someone on the boards try to compile it (be sure to let us know what the versoin is). If we can compile it without issue you may want to try repairing your FPGA module installation.

  • No option to simulate cRIO device after installing Labview and RT/FPGA Modules from downloads (missing driver support?)

    Hi guys--
Basically, I need to simulate a cRIO device without yet having the hardware on hand, like this:
How to Simulate FPGA Hardware Targets Using the Project Explorer with LabVIEW
Instead, I only get the options shown in the attachment "Add Target Options.jpg".  I assume this is because of missing drivers, which I assume is due some mistake I made during a recent fresh install of LV.  The install went like this:  I downloaded (not disks) and installed the following (in this order, latest versions all around):
    (1) LabView Development System
    (2) Real-Time Module
    (3) FPGA Module
    (4) NI-RIO (install prompted by previous install)
    (5) DAQmx
At the end of (1) and (2), I got the screen shown in the second attachment ("Drivers Install Message.jpg"), but could not get it to recognize the "NI Device Drivers" folder (which I also downloaded), or any of its sub-folders.
I feel I'm missing some obvious option for loading up the necessary drivers after the install, but can't seem to find reference to it in the forums.  Could anyone give me a little push in the right direction?
Thanks a bunch, and have a great day.

    Michael--
Thanks for your reply.  In answer to your questions, the DAQmx install seemed to go smoothly, and I believe this is evidenced by available my MAX Simulated Device options (shown in the attachment to this post).  My best guess (could be wrong here) is that I cannot simulate a cRIO device because I was unable to install the drivers after the Real-Time Module installation (as described in my first post).
The source path selection screen for drivers ("Drivers Install Message" attachment in first post) told me "...you can install NI device drivers later.", and since it would not recognize anything in the NI Device Drivers folder I downloaded, I clicked on "Later".
I could narrow the issue down a bit if I could now install those drivers, but this is my first time installing without disks, and I can't figure out how to properly install the drivers from the folder I have sitting on my hard drive.  Have I overlooked instructions somewhere on this procedure?
Thanks a bunch for your help.

  • Implementing Differential Equations using Labview fpga modules on PXI-7811R

    Dear,
I am working on   implementing dynamic systems modeled ordinary  differential equations on PXI-7811R FPGA using labview FPGA. Is there any body who can help me how to implement differential equation on PXI devices uding Labview FPGA, please? Is there any integrator in Labview FPGA, module. I used Discrete Integerator in LAbview FPGA  module in Maths palette, but i hesistated if it really works . I really appreciate your help,
                                        Gammee

Thank you for posting on the discussion forum.
You can solve differential equations using LabVIEW FPGA but you may run into some significant difficulties in doing so. If you are not tied to using FPGA, you could try using LabVIEW real-time, which may make things much easier. But if you would like to stick with FPGA, see the link below for a list of examples that may be helpful:
    http://search.ni.com/nisearch/app/main/p/bot/no/ap/tech/lang/en/pg/1/sn/ssnav:ipn/q/differential%20e...
Below is a link that you can review to better understand the functionality of the discrete integrator should you choose to go that route:
    http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371599B-01/lvfpga/discrete_normalized_integrator/
    I hope that helps.

  • Bind FPGA host reference to type definition in labVIEW 2012 crashes labVIEW

    Hi,
I am using FPGA target device 5641R and labview FPGA 2012 with 5640R ver 1.7.
On the configure window of open FPGA VI reference function, choosing the dynmaic mode shows broken arrow when wired to the 5640R configuration VIs (i.e. Configure timebase, Configure ADC default, Configure ADC NCO functions). So i tried the other option which is binding the FPGA host reference to type definition and choose the control from path C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2012\instr.lib\ni5640R\Configuration\NI-5640R VIs\ni5640R FPGA VI Reference.ctl. But after that when i try to save the VI on which open FPGA VI reference function is placed, labVIEW crashes. I am unable to figure out the reason. Earlier I was working with labVIEW 2011 and it was working fine there. Any suggestions would be highly appretiated.
Please see the attached images for more details.
