Help! Lenovo G500 Laptop too complicated for user

Hi,
My son is overwhelmed with his new Laptop and am trying to help but just too many screens & choices for him to get used to! He upgraded from another laptop brand which had a simpler interface and wondering if it's possible to set this up simpler i.e. one screen/desktop. Just a "traditional" type with links for internet, documents, photos, etc?
It's just too complicated with Start, Desktop, sidebar, toolbars, etc.
Thanks so much for your help and any suggestions!

How certain are you the superdrive ONLY is at fault?
That depends on your skill level, if you grew up tearing things apart and putting them together, its absurd how easy it is.
For some however its too daunting. On a general skill level for the "average" person its about a 3 out of 10 in difficulty.

Lenovo G500s laptop monitor doesnt recover from power saver mode

Hii everybody,
i have been using this G500s laptop for an year or so...recently my laptop has started showing troubles with the screen saver or the power saver that comes by if i dont use my laptop for few mins..! when i dont use my laptop it goes to power saver mode and the monitor doesn not return back to power when i try to resume my work...!!! and interestingly i could hear the cooling fan running at high speeds and my laptop heating up... and it sounds like my whole laptop is working other than my monitor..!! my monitor is just a black screen..... and my system has began to slow down nowadays.. desperately need help on this..!! it has started becoming frequent

Welcome to the Forums.
Just to verify, when the machine goes into Power Saver Mode (Standby / Sleep), can you check if the power button is blinking (this is an indication that the machine successfully entered Sleep State).
If the power button is just a solid light and it's not blinking then the machine is likely not entering Sleep. In this case, consider doing the following:
1. Turn off Hybrid Sleep under Control Panel (Icon Views) > Power Options
- Link to picture
2. Set the computer's power setting to HIgh Performance and disable the HDD's power management settings (see this guide)
3. If you have external devices plugged-in (eg. Flashdrives), unplug them then perform a clean boot (this procedure temporarily disables background services/apps that are running in the background that's possibly hanging up the system as these are normally terminated before the machine goes to sleep).

HELP! Display appears too large for screen!

Weird thing happening... The display on my iPhone for some reason is appearing too large for the screen, as if I zoomed in on the display slightly. I can't figure out a way to fix this.

I updated to the latest software/etc... because I figured that that might resolve the issue. Restarted the phone. Can't fix. Trying to avoid my local Apple store, since it's an absolute mob scene. Any advice?

Update Adobe AIR help content without necessity of installation for users???

I want to make our manuals available as Adobe AIR help applications. Unfortunately for our users it is not possible to regularly install these applications. Therefore I decided to generate a help viewer as AIR file and help content as RHA file ("help content only" ssl option). So admins only once have to install an initial AIR file. Afterwards users are able to replace help content to update help files.
I proceeded in a similar way as described here:

In principle this is a good solution - but here is my problem:
Help content itself already consists of different projects (merged projects). Merged projects unfortunately cannot be generated with "help content only" ssl option.
Anyone has got an idea how to satisfy all my conditions:
- Customers only once have to install an AIR file
- Afterwards help content can be updated by replacing files (without installation)
- Help content itself contains merged projects .
Generate different outputs (RHA files) for the merged projects is not a possibility. The merged projects with regard to content belong to ONE single manual - I'm not talking about different manuals. So users should be able to search the whole manual and so on ...).

It has always irritated me that the blog you refer to uses the term "merged help". It is not merged help, it is simply a collection of outputs where the user can select the one they want.
My site does have instructions for a true merged AIR Help output but that will not achieve your objective of one install. Sorry but I don't think what you want can be achieved.

Need help: Few of APs suddenly fail for user connection establish

Hi there,
Need advice in this probe. Our campus internal wireless system is working fine until weeks ago this issue occurred.
Our campus is running on LWAPP AP1242, WISM ver 5.1, and external Radius server using 802.1x.
Client will authenticate to the SSID via 802.1x ext server that is compliment with WLC. The client around certain APs had a problem to authenticate even the signal of the SSID was so strong. The user had register to the radius server and they had succesful connected to others AP before with same system.
This certain APs were random, each day more than hours it fail to establish connection to the SSID. After several hours, it is back to normal( working fine). For those APs that suspected, i had change to totally new AP assuming that the previous had a hardware prob. But it keep happen to the new AP that been install.
Then i suspected that external radius might be the reason, so i configure one SSID with open access for that AP. But i fail to connect the SSID with open access during the problem. After hours it then successful connected to open access.
Why this suddenly happen? It is all working fine, and suddenly this occured. If this because of the rouge AP jamming signal? configuration? SSIDs brodcast? Firmware issue?

1. Maybe someone with a similar system is detecting your AP's as rogue AP's and is containing them.
- Not really sure with that, how can we detect it? By enable rouge detection, the area involve with this issue, showing not much rouge around.
2. Among the clients having issues; what band are they using b/g, a, both?
- 11b will the minority. 11g will the largest user.
3. Do you have a load restriction policy defined? When an ap reaches its max load it will drop additional clients trying to associate.
- Not really. Threshold client per AP will 70 user. We had identify only 30 user that assct with single AP.
4. What type of wireless cards are the clients using? Are they all the same or all different?
- we handle around 2000 user during peak time. So wireless card will be mix. - Intel card will be the most.
Additional inquiries
- by allowing client to use only one single vlan for ip assignment, help to handle this issue?. Currently we are using AP group via different segment of vlan.
- By disable WLAN override on each AP, help to handle this issue?

Query Help. Seems easy but complicated for me

The login uses a different authentication method then the application. As the login pulls from our intranet office database and the app uses users in a local apex db.
I need a query that will check after auth if the user has a account stored in apex db if so then the user will be redirected to page 4, if not then the user will be directed to page 7.

New laptop too slow for Flash HD fullscreen?

Hi!
I'm a really big fan of these new HD-videos you can watch on
vimeo etc. Where I work, it's no problem at all to watch them in
Fullscreen, it runs very smoothly. Now I bought a new notebook with
high performance:
ASUS V1S
Core2 Duo, 2,20 GHz
2 gig memory
NVidia 8600 GT 512
Display Resolution 1680x1050
and nomatter which HD video I want to play, it runs choppy
(even if it's not fullscreen). I activated graphic-card
acceleration, fullscreen with no scale. It just doesn't play
smooth. Does that meen that my computer just isn't fast enough? Or
can I change any settings? I also have the newest driver installed.

Hi Folks,
I have a lenovo G500 laptop which i had purchased during thanksgiving vaction in 2013. The machine was working fine till June 2014 when I stated getting Blue Screen of death with error messages "irql_not_less_or_equal" The OS was windows 8.1. This created lot of problem while booting , the machine would not boot at all.
Along with this message I started getting this message "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" SATA disk on Controller 0, Port Unknown detected". This message was coming very often.
I along with Lenovo support did all the things possible, like factory reset etc. Finally the machine was sent out to depot for repair in July 2014. They replaced the hard drive and sent the machine back.
I got the machine back on 22nd July and since last week ,ie, 14th July I have started to get the issues again. My IE and Firefox will suddenly hangon and the blue screen will appear again with same message "irql_not_less_or_equal" occasionally. Yesterday i started getting Sata disk message again.
I wanted to understand why this message is coming back along with blue screen of death. Is there some problem with Windows OS or hard disk seems to crash again?

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
From this article, this is the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL possible cause:
"This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed when the IRQL is too high.
The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS.
If you encounter bug check 0xA while upgrading to a later version of Windows, this error might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version."
From your description, It's possible that the HDD or the RAM is faulty but it's also possible that it's a software (driver) issue -- which is the hard drive (SATA) controller.
To verify, I would:
1. Run a diagnostic on the HDD (via Lenovo's Storage Quick Test or via HD Tune)
- http://www.hdtune.com/faq_1.html
2. Run a diagnostic on the RAM (via Memtest86+)
- RAM - Test with Memtest86+
3, Read the BSOD dump file to see what file caused the crash
- How to solve Windows 8 crashes in less than a minute
- If the file is associated with the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (SATA Controller), uninstall the software from the Control Panel > Programs and let Windows install a generic Windows driver.

If you get an error after running the diagnostic test, I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the issue.

Lenovo G500 touchpad not working

I bought a lenovo G500 laptop around 6 months ago.So far everything was good enough but suddenly my touchpad has stopped working.I looked up in the manual and used the function key (F6) to enable/disable it but this is also not working.If I plug in the usb mouse then it works fine.Di I need to reinstall touchpad drivers? Help pls...

I would consider as my first step on throubleshooting this.
Open Device Manager and under Mice and Gaming controllers, Rightclick and Uninstall the Synaptics or ELan touchpad,
Restart the system and Install the driver back,
Windows 7
Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan)
Windows 8
Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan) for 64-bit Windows
Windows 8.1
Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan)
