Help: Light ray + Text

Hello board, I am new to Motion 3 and I know this is one of the easier tasks but I need guidance on how to make light rays pass through text from left to right to give it a shine effect. If you could link me to the thread that has this guide already or just reply here I would appreciate the help. Thank you!

Light rays challenge

Hi all,
I have a logo (created in Illustrator) that I want to use in the intro of a video (like a spalsh screen). I was hoping to use Light Rays to have the light shine through the text, but I can't find a way to get what I want. Is there a way to move the source light from left to right behind the logo? I'm not talking about the angle of emission (which is keyframing the "center" parameter). I'm talking about keeping the center at 0,0 and physically moving the source light from left to right.
This was discussed in this thread but the OPer never posted his answer.
Wait, I just thought of something I'll try while you all are looking for this: I might try to keep center at 0,0 and then animate a mask to reveal the logo (a word). Don't know if that will give me my desired effect, but it's worth a try!
If anyone has an answer to my original question, that would be cool in the meantime.

Printing light-colored text from a Web page

On a Web page that contains some light-colored text (such as the Apple Store MacBook models page <http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm= browse&node=home/shop_mac/family/macbook&sf=wHF2F2PHCCCX72KDY>), is it possible to have the light gray text print darker? When I print such pages on my color laser printer, that gray text is almost too faint to see. Thanks for any pointers.

Depends mostly on the printer you are using, which will determine the settings available. In the Print dialog box, click on the pop-up menu that shows as Copies & Pages. Look for options that deal with color. For example, an inkjet printer I have shows a Color Management setting, with an option for "pure black and white" - that setting would print the light gray text as black. On the other hand, for an HP Color Laser printer, the Color Options doesn't provide any settings that are useful for what you want to do (even under the advanced options). The best I could find was in ColorSync (that choice will be present for all printers), choose "Lightness Decrease" from the Quartz Filter pop-up menu. That seems to darken the printed gray text a little bit.

I am in dire need of your help, How can this special effect in attached image can be produced. To be precise, I mean light rays coming from dj player and if you notice there is blue foggy impression on tshirt , How these things can be made in Adobe Photoshop CS3 or in Adobe Illustrator CS3?

• create a vertical Gradient Layer black to nothing
• create a horizontal Gradient Layer nothing to white to nothing
• apply »Create Clipping Mask«
• add black background
• convert that whole stack of layers to a Smart Object or flatten it (being as CS3 will not support perspectival transformation of SO)
• invoke Edit > Transform > Perspective or Warp
• create a Gradient Map Layer blue to cyan (or whatever) and clipping mask it to that layer
• set the Gradient Map Layer to Color and the Layer with the Gradient to Screen (that way it should work on all backgrounds)
• if necessary apply some Gaussian Blur to the gradient layer

Animate light rays on object

Hello, I'm fairly new to Motion and need some help.
I have applied the Light Rays filter to a vector logo I have created. I'm stuck on getting the light rays to animate.
I know its probably dead simple, but I can't seem to figure it out.

It's commonly used in Sony Vegas productions.
One complicated way of doing it in FCE would be to use multiple layers of video, add a Gaussian Blur and increase the zoom on the bottom layer while lowering the Opacity on the top layer, but in order to smoothly animate the rays you'd have to do some rather convoluted things.
Is there a simple way to do this in Final Cut Express (using 3.5 right now, considering upgrading) for both video and text?

I don't believe the "Light Rays" filter included with FCE 4 is the effect you want. It makes the clip look a lot different than the examples you provided. Effects like the one you are looking for need to be created by themselves, and not just applied. Tom's book definitely explains how to do this, but I was unsuccessful as of yet in finding the exact lesson (part of the problem is that I don't know exactly what such an effect was called, so I can't just look it up in the index. It's a 300-something page book, so finding a particular section without remembering its name is a little tricky...)
I will continue to keep my eye out. I believe it has something to do with creating two text tracks, applying some sort of glow to the bottom one, and keyframing its movement. Will let you know when I know for sure.

Light Rays filter is not rendering

Hello all, I am applying the light rays filter to a gif.
When I render the animation it's pixelated, any way to make it work?

The gif itself is pretty big and renders well with no effects applied, it is only when the light rays filter is applied that it all goes badly pixelated, I am not talking about the slight perception of aliased edges, the gif becomes ridiculously pixelated. I am away from my computer and therefore cannot provide a screenshot, I will try to show one as soon as I can.

CC Light Rays From Camera Perspective?

Hey guys, This may be a newb question but i cant seem to find anything on it. I have been messign with CC Lightrays in After Effects 5.5 and im using it by adding keyframes to lower and up the intensity back and fourth to make it look like the light is moving. My question is though, How can i get it so that the source of the rays is off screen yet fills the screen with its rays? Because the more you drag the source light off screen, the more it makes a cone chape of light. Also, i wanted to know how i can make the rays coming at me when im facing the camera. I have a shot where im looking at the camer and i want it to look like im looking into the light rays and im also surrounded by it. Like im in a beam. Any help qould be great.

Hi Joey, what Mylenium referred to was Precomposing: Have a look at the screeshot. Supposed you have the object that is the source for the light rays on the "Your Object" layer and the CC Light Rays effect on an adjustment layer above. Then select both layers, right click and choose "Pre-compose" (Move all attributes). This results in a new composition, in form of a single layer, that took the place of the old ones. This new layer can be scaled up so that the source of the rays move outside the screen while still shining into the picture.

Help to get text objects in ABAP

Hi guys!
I've created my first report program and need some help to get text objects into the report. The program combines the tables KNA1, LIKP, LIPS, VBAK, VBAP and VBKD to create a deliverylist which we import as excel info a shipping service. The issue at hand is that our website allows customers to change the ship-to party's address when creating an order. The adress are not updated to KNA1, but are comitted as a text on the ship-to on the delivery itself.
The text I need in the report is RV50A-TXTWE.
Can you help me get going on how to add this from the delivery?

Your problem is that its a structure. Structures are filled in a program and no longer exist after the program is closed. They are temporary data. It will have been moved to tables somewhere most likely. The next step is to debug / trace through the code to find out what was done with it.
What program were you using that created the structure?

Light rays of effect not reaching to edge of screen after resize

Hello,
I have the following problem:
I created a composition with an Image (Logo) that is highlighted by lightrays and reflections.
It looks great - than i decided, that it would even look better if it slowly zooms in.
But now, after i scaled the composition down, the light rays don't reach to the edge of the screen no more.
What can i do?

You need to do your animation on your logo, then precompose it (moving all attributes). You would then apply all of your effects work on your your new precomp, not the logo itself. Read more on Precomposing here.

Light colored text and highlighting is very difficult to see.

Light colored text and highlighting is very difficult to see. How can I make it darker or more pronounced? It seems to get darker if I push the screen as far back as it goes. MacBook 5.2 OSX 10.6.8

A problem for many of us.
You can change the highlight colour in System Preferences > Appearance
For awkward choices of text colour, you can either zoom to see it larger (hold 'ctrl' and scroll forward), or reverse the colours by holding dwn the ctrl, opt and command keys and typing 8 (⌃⌥⌘8). The same key sequence will toggle it off again.

Need help with Set Text behavior

In Dreamweaver CS3/Mac, I am creating a disjointed rollover
that is initiated by rolling over an image. I need it to swap two
images and hopefully set text in two divs. I want this to happen on
rollover and not on click. I don't want it to restore on mouse out.
The images are no problem but I can't seem to make this happen for
the text. Is this possible? Any help? Thanks.

Help turning shapes (& Text) to natural, fluid smoke

I'm working on a music video for a friend. It's just a live recording, nothing fancy. There's a lyric in his song that says: "The smoke always seems to spell out your first name". I noticed that during the footage of one of my takes, at that perfect moment, some gorgeous smoked hit the lights I set up just right and I just have to try and get that name in there.
Now, of course this smoke is moving. I want to add the name but make it look natural. A mask would be a simple solution, but I could not make that look like free moving smoke. I'm looking for an effect similar to this:
There are a lot of great tutorials on smoke text out there (from video copilot for example), but none have achieved the effect I am looking for.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or offer some advice?
Additinoal notes:
-After Effects v11
-I also have Trapcode particular on the machine I'm using if that helps & I'm open to looking into other plugins.

Thought you were trying to make text look like it was made out of smoke. What are you trying to do? If you're trying to take the smoke in the shot and morph it into 'the name' then you'll have to remove the smoke, put it on a separate layer, and then do the transform. Not an easy task.
If you are trying to make the text appear inside the smoke then you are faced with the same problem of creating layered smoke to put the text between.
The you posted show a ring and a ship made from smoke moving through the scene. That's exactly what both of our suggestions will give you. You start with text to get the shape, then you distort, wiggle, and roughen the shape and use it as a source or boundary for a smoke effect. You can create smoke with particles or with fractal noise. There is no single plug-in click to create solution here. I guess we don't understand what you are trying to accomplish.
