HELP ! Lightroom Crashing
I have the latest version of lightroom and for some reason it is crashing on startup. I have repaired permissions, done fsck -f to no avail. I have a catalog that I did a great deal of work on this morning that Ireally don't want to lose (naturally not backed up yet) .....
this is the crash report sent to Apple:

The images are stored on a second hard drive in my G5. The lightroom catalog is on my main hard drive.
The crash most often occurs (now) when I am going from image to image in the Library mode editing the images (rejecting). The program just quits and the apple crash dialog pops up.
Note I am working on a quad core G5 with 9 gigs of RAM on Leopard 10.5.1
This is the most recent crash code:

Lightroom crashes every time I try to change the font color of my identity plate
I use the LRB portfolio plugin to create my website. Every time I try to change the color of my identity plate, lightroom crashes immediately. I can change the font and size without the problem, only a color change causes the crash. I tried to trash the plugin, but it still behaved the same way. Can anyone help me with this problem?
Hi Sean,
thanks for answering. No, it crashes anyway. I tried changing the identity plate color in all different modules. I was able to change it once when I had just bought a new computer and installed Lightroom, but now I can't. I wonder if there are any cache files or anything causing this. Unfortunately I don't know enough about this to fix it myself. I wondered whether LRB is causing a problem simply by having it installed, but as I said, after I removed it from the Web Galleries folder, the problem still occurred. Is there any way to recreate the identity plate in Photoshop (same font and size etc.) and reimport it into Lightroom? I need to finish my website and my name is sol light, it is barely legible. Any fix or workaround would be appreciated. -
Lightroom crashes when rendering Develop preview under Vista 64-bit
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and Lightroom 1.1 crashes every time I click the "Develop" pane. My images are DNG files without the original RAW embedded.
Lightroom ONLY crashes when I load an image in Develop. If I open Develop without any image selected, it's fine (no image is displayed). I can zoom in to 100% in Library and it works fine. Exporting images to JPG works fine. Editing photos in the Library pane is fine. The crash data is:

I've uninstalled LR 1.1 and reinstalled and it does the same thing. When I uninstall LR 1.1 and the install LR 1.0 (the previous version) Develop does open, but it doesn't render the images correctly - it looks like it misinterprets the white balance by about 1,500k degrees (very ugly), but Library shows the correct image/white-balance.
I've updated my nVidia 7900 graphics drivers to the latest version, appropriate to my OS and architecture. I've disabled XMP creation and Adobe Photo Downloader, as well as all other running applications (Antivirus, spyware, itunes, etc).
This USED to work fine in Vista and I did not make any significant changes, but I expect it's an issue with WindowsUpdate causing an incompatibility. I can't roll-back to my Vista state when it worked a month ago (that's another Vista frustration).
Anyway advice or comments would be GREATLY appreciated since this is an integral part of my professional workflow. I own a legitimate, licensed copy of both Lightroom and Vista, yet neither company is willing to talk to me unless I pay them money, which I think is complete extortion, but I digress.
Thanks in advance for your help.Has anyone got a resolution on this? I have the same issue. Lightroom crashes when I click develop and the develop module begins to render the image. Clicking develop with no image selected allows the develop module to load however selecting develop on the menu bar and choosing either previous photo or next photo causes lightroom to crash while rendering an image.
I have a 64 bit capable HP XW8400 workstation with 2 dual core Xeon processors, 4 GB RAM, and a nVidia FX 4400 graphics card. This video card was put in as a test. the original video card was an nVidia quadra NVS something. When I ran the NVS card I used the drivers certified for Adobe CS2. I am running 32 bit Windows XP SP2 with all current updates. I do not have any MS office components installed on this system.
I read of some troubles around the Realtek HD audio driver and some Adobe applications (not Lightroom). Since I have this sound device I disabled it and removed the drivers...still crashes.
I also disabled the Intel VT in the system bios (I believe this is required to run 64 bit XP or Vista)... no change. Also disabled the NX feature...no change.
I also loaded VMware workstation 6.0 and installed Lightroom in a 32bit Windows XP SP2 VM. In the VM Lightroom works perfectly on the same machine...just not as snappy...
This stinks...Lightroom works perfectly on my poky laptop. -
Lightroom crashing when Photoshop is running??
I need help! I am running Windows 7, 4GB RAM. When I have both Photoshop CS4 64bit and Lightroom 3.3 64bit open Lightroom crashes. The moment I close Photoshop, Lightroom is fine. This is something that just started, I use to work with both of them all the time.
Thanks in advance!First off, did you really mean PS CS4? Because PS CS4 and LR 3 are not fully compatible, and you don't get all the features of LR with CS4.
I do not know if CS4 would cause LR to crash. I worked for a while with CS3 and LR 3 and both worked fine, except that CS3 can not open the RAW images processed in LR 3.
Secondly, what do you mean by "crashes" - do you get a Windows message that LR has to close? Or is it that LR seems the be "frozen", i.e. un-responsive?
If LR becomes unresponsive, the reason might be that do don't have enough RAM. Try the following:
How large is your page file? Increae your page file (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Performance) How large is your LR Cache. Set the Cache size in LR to very large (mine is set at 75 GB) - it might help (Edit > Preferences > File Handling). Also, move your LR Cache to a different drive than the drive on which LR sits .
Finally, if LR closes down on you and if both programs worked before then one or the other has become somehow corrupted.
Since it is LR that crashes, try to re-install LR.
Before you do that, backup your Catalog, so that you can open it with the newly re-installed LR and don't lose anything.

Lightroom crashed and now I can't open the catalog - even after deleting the lock file.
Lightrooms crashed, which is a common occurrance. But, this last time was different. After I restarted it my catalog was not linked and all my settings were gone. I tried opening the catalog through the file menu, but absolutely nothing happens. I tried going to the folder and clicking on it but this only opens lightroom with no catalog. After having scanned this forum I found that I need to delete the .lock file, but after doing that the same things happen. Any suggestions on how to open my catalog? Will reinstalling Lightroom help?
The problems mostly happen when I am using X-Y compare in Library mode. It shows black rectancles over the tops of the sections that contain the photos and these flash. They aren't always the same size, but are only on the top of the section - never big enough to completely cover the photos. Then I get anywhere from one to about four or five extra windows stacked on top of the Lightroom Icon at the bottom of my screen (I use Windows 8) opening and closing, though there isn't enough time for me to click on them and read them because my computer gets so slow that my mouse actin is delayed by a few seconds. And, to shut Lightroom down, I need to use Windows task manager because clicking on the little red box with the X in the upper right corner accomplishes nothing. I have a new Sony Vaio i5 chip and 8Gb RAM. This also hapened on my old computer, though not as often

Workarounds for Lightroom crash on Import...
Issue description
When importing or synchronizing folders in Lightroom 4, the application becomes unresponsive and Windows reports it as not working.

Workaround
The following items each prevented the issue from occuring.
Unplug phone (android - Samsung Galaxy SII) from USB port or
Unlock phone.
My guess is that the Import... and Folder synchronization operations invokes Lightroom to scan all storage devices including USB attached devices. Lightroom seems to choke on connected devices that has an empty volume list.
Workaround #1: Unplugging the phone removes the device from the list. Lightroom only has to deal with C:\ and D:\ partitions which are hard disk drives.
Workaround #2: In my case, unlocking the phone will allow Windows to list available volumes on the device. Lightroom probably does not know how to handle scenarios involving connected devices that has empty volume sets. Some devices may need more interactions to allow Windows to list available volumes. For me, leaving the phone unplugged was an easier workaround.

Investigation
To investigate the issue, I reproduced the issue using procmon.exe and filtered the trace to include events with Process Name = lightroom.exe.
Scanning the trace from most recent events to oldest, I noticed a RegQueryValue operation that resulted in NAME NOT FOUND. The detail that caught my eye was that the path included "SAMSUNG_ANDROID" which indicates Lightroom is doing something that involves my Samsung Galaxy SII phone that was connected via USB -- I don't know what and why.
As a wild trial-and-error test, I unplugged the phone. As a result, the issue could no longer be reproduced -- workaround #1.The second workaround was discovered after a few minutes of trial-and-error. I don't remember what my thought process was and am currently too lazy to type any more.
If this write-up helped you, awesome. If you have a similar issue but a different workaround, please share it!Great!
I had the same issue, that could be resolved by your suggestion.
Actually, I renamed the module wpdmanager.mox to kill it's activity.
Disadvantage of this is that you will not be able to import files from SD card, but I copy to HDD using explorer anyway.
I totaly agree with your conjecture.

Lightroom crashes on import with Samsung Android Phone plugged in USB
I went to import some photos taken on a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone into Lightroom 5.5 via USB. Plugging in the phone with import selected or selecting import with the phone already plugged in crashes Lightroom, every time. Now, I can copy the pictures to the computer and then presumably import them, but Lightroom shouldn't crash when a smartphone is plugged in...
Funny I should find this post on my first web search - I just updated from v5.4 to v5.5 only 10 minutes ago and *BLAMMO* . . . Lightroom crashes as soon as I hit the Import button when my Samsung Galaxy S III is attached via USB. This is on Windows 7 64-bit.
Lightroom v5.4 has been happily importing files from the same phone all along, so something has regressed in v5.5, it seems. Importing from a USB storage device should be relatively straightforward.
EDIT: I uninstalled v5.5 and reinstalled v5.4 - it imports without problems using the same scenario that crashed v5.5 above.
Little help, Adobe? Please? I'm willing to send logs, test various scenarios, etc. -
I am watching a Creative Live Lightroom Crash Course with Jared Platt and Matt Kloskowski. They mentioned that Lightroom CC was available. I went to the Adobe site and clicked on it, but the download was for Lightroom 6. What is going on? I wanted Lightroom CC.
Yes, it looks like they've screwed up. Some people have been able to update CC to LR6, some people get half way through the download and it fails, some people (me included don't get any option to upgrade to LR6 in the CC app... It's all very annoying. I tried the help chat, and I got "log out of the CC and try again in 2-3 hours". Well, that was half an hour ago, but I'm not holding my breath for getting LR6 today.

Lightroom crashes when I try to access one particular folder
Recently I've been renaming and reorganizing my image folders directly from Lightroom, instead of doing this in Mac finder or Bridge. Recently I renamed one particular folder that immediately caused lightroom to crash, and then keep crashing immediately after relaunching because it keep trying to load this folder in the library mode. Finally I decided to try and quickly select a different folder before it could crash, and this indeed worked. But it still crashes every time I try to view the contents of this folder. I tried deleting this folder from the catalog and then re-importing it, but after importing 10 or so images out of 500, it crashes agian. Could there be some corrupt file in this folder or what?
I managed to get my Lightroom to a point were it crashes when I browse through certain folder.
While testing possible solution for slow thumbnails problem I did the following:
I shutdown Lightroom, renamed my preview folder, restarted Lightroom, rendered standard previews to folder X, browsed through those images few times, shutdown Lightroom again, removed new preview folder and renamed the old one back.
Now, every time I browse through the folder X my Lightroom crashes at certain point. After brief testing there is no problems when I browse through other folders. Rendering standard previews to folder X did not help. I discarded all 1:1 preview from that folder I'm now rendering them again. Maybe that helps...
Edit: Discarding and rendering 1:1 previews for all images in problematic folder removed my crashing problems. -
Lightroom crashes on launch when installed through CC
I tried installing Lightroom through CC. I already had it installed as a stand-alone product before I got CC. When I do that, Lightroom crashes on launch. Even deleting it entirely, and then installing through CC has the same result. Only by downloading the latest version and installing with a serial number can I get it to work. This happened with both 5.5 and 5.6, on a Mac running Mavericks.
MY answer was thst i was subscribed to "one application" in creative cloud. I thought i could get the Photographers Program ( Photoshop and Lightroom for the same price as Photoshop alone) by just downloading LR. But, no you have to call cust service and change your subscription.
so, even tho creative cloud said i could "install" i coukdnt make it work.
hope that helps someone -
Lightroom crashes constantly after update to 1.4,1
I updated Lightroom from 1.3.1 to 1.4.1 and I have now a lot of problems. I'm working with Windows Vista on a very recent computer.
Lightroom crashes constantly. It appears to be especially when I am in a large folder, at the bottom of my tree structure or in a large folder.
There are also two pictures (JPEG's) missing: The thumbnails are gray and I when I select one of these, I have a message: 'The file appears to be unsupported or damaged'. I deleted the two pictures and imported them back from a backup, but Lightroom refuses (preview thumbnail in importwindow is gray). Photoshop CS2 has not a problem to open the two JPEGfiles.
I always make backups before I start a session: There is no problem with my database. Do I have to reinstall the 1.3.1 (and how)? How I fixed the Mfc80u.dll Error...
Many people have emailed me asking to help them repair Mfc80u.dll. So, I am going to tell you how I personally fixed this problem, and how I usually repair most dll errors.
Like most dll errors, Mfc80u.dll is caused by corrupt or misplaced system files. In almost all cases it is a critical registry problem. But dont worry, it's not hard to fix.
Here is how I fix Mfc80u.dll, make sure to follow the steps below:
Step 1: Download & install RegCure registry scanner for FREE!
Step 2: Scan your computer
Step 3: Click the 'FIX' button & your DONE!
I always suggest to people to use RegCure, because 9/10 its hard to pin-point the root problem of a critical error and correct it manually. This way everything is done for you and its safe!
Enjoy!

Lightroom crashes at start up with the error message "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit". Please advise on how to fix this error. Thanks
You probably need to delete your preview cache. See here

Lightroom crash in Develop module with RAW files with sidecar files from ver 3
The issue probably has to do with the differences in settings between the two versions but I figured I would document what I am experiencing.
I am using the 64 bit version of Windows 7.
I imported a group of pictures with the XMP sidecar files generated with Lightroom v3. All the image files, a mixture of Canon Mark 5D II RAW and jpg files from my point & shoot UFO camera, imported without issue picking up all my tagging and GPS settings. When importing you are put into the Library module and from the Library module I could click on any RAW or jpg file, look at the meta data and view full screen.
I then entered the Develop module with a jpg picture selected and none of my settings made it across. The process was set to 2012. I was able to try out the new adjustments and all worked very well.
I then selected a RAW file while still in the Develop module and all hell broke loose.
I got a tip window pop up, the film strip went orange, the rest of the app screen then became greyed out and then behind tip pop up a crash window containing this information appeared:

There was no other path but to have the app close after that. Now since Lightroom has left off with the RAW file in the develop module when I restart the app it starts in the develop module with that same RAW image selected and I crash before I can change to a jpg. I am probably going to have to delete and recreated the data file to use the app again
After the all this I went back and checked to see how I had the catalog settings in LR 3 set because there were no sidecar files for the jpg images. I did not have the option to write settings to jpg and tif files but did have write settings to sidecar set. So I have a bit of a mystery why I have no sidecar files for jpg files when I should have based on the way the settings were. This probably explains why I had no issues at all with them in LR 4.
I am going to get LR 4 working again and then import the same batch of pictures without any sidecar files and see if I have any issues. I will report back soon.
When I imported the files without the sidecar files I had no issues at all but the RAW images came under older process not the 2012 process. There were no settings without the sidecar files so why would the app not start the images at the most recent process level? I updated then to 2012 and some of the setting sliders changed. I tried all the adjustment might use with both RAW and jpg files and no issues were observed.
The new develop module does seem to light darker areas without impacting other lighter areas better. The brush toll does work better and I see some additional settings were added along with presets.
As I posted elsewhere, I am disappointed content aware fill and healing were not included. This is the functionality that would save me from going to Photoshop when I have some undesirable reality in an image.
I tried out the new geo coding functionality and I really like it as it beats using Google maps on the web (painfully slow these days), dropping latitude / longitude markers, copying and pasting the data from the markers into a Lightroom plug-in and then going through a time consuming three step process.Idem for me on Mac:
No problem to developp a RAW file from a D300 never develop before in LR 3 but when I enter a RAW file develop in LR3 into the develop module of LR4, Lightroom Crash. The report on Mac:

Lightroom Crashes and can't access my preference tab in Lightroom 5
I'm working on Win8 . When I click on the preference in lightroom, I keep getting the below error and the program shuts down. Also after changing the preference catalog the problem of Lightroom crashing when trying to sync my collections has been resolved but now when I go to sign-in, it says " that it seems that the computer is not connected to the internet.
My system config is as below. Is my computer too old to run Lightroom. I just bought the monthly subscription yesterday and since then I've only been plagued with one issue after the other.I'd try to close LR and then back up and then delete the Preferences.agprefs file. File locations.
LR will create a new one on its next launch. -
Lightroom 5.6 stops working when I click Help Lightroom Online...
I recently installed Lightroom CC 5.6 64-bit for the first time, in Windows 7, and the very first menu item I clicked (Help > Lightroom Online...) caused the following error to happen. (see photo, below).
Any suggestions on how to make this problem go away?
The issue is 100% repeatable, and forces me to close and re-open the Lightroom program each time. I have not yet tried all of the other functions to check their behavior, except for Help > Lightroom Help... which worked as it should. No help with those. Actually I tried same thing on my HP Envy Laptop and it gives slightly different response. This is a screenshot after clicking.
I wonder why someone indicates this "correct answer" cos there is not yet my respons of solving this problem? In both computers I only use Administrator account and Lightroom still continues this behavior even if I got fresh account. And ofcourse that can't be a solution in problem witch does not repeat any other application.
