HELP - Lost Mail Folders - Any way to recover?

All of my custom email folders have disappeared. This is tragic, as my last backup was several months ago (yes yes... I know this is my own fault). After reading around online here, I see that the Preferences file can get corrupted if hard drive space is low. I am guessing that this is my problem, since I had Photoshop running at the same time, and only 6gig free on my 80gig drive, and remember a pop-up window appearing in Photoshop saying that my hard drive space was low.
This being the case -- just because a preference file gets deleted/messed-up, does this mean that there is NO way to recover those messages? What happened to those original files of mine that held those messages? I must have had 30 folders, and all of them are zapped from my hard drive? Not in the trash, not in the POP folders in my Library, not anywhere when I do a Find for their name. I just don't understand how they could disappear completely, and isn't there a chance that there is some recoverable data somewhere on my drive??
I also don't understand why my Junk Mail, Sent Mail and InBox mail was NOT deleted. Only the folders that I had created to file my messages. And I didn't have to re-setup my accounts or do anything like that.
Thanks in advance for any advice that anybody might be able to share.
G4 Titanium Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Mail 2.0.5

Hi all. I sure appreciate everybody's suggestions and feedback. Even though ultimately things have not worked out for me, I have a renewed faith in the Apple community as a whole -- which counts for something.
I'll try to sum up what happened for me. First, my mail folders/mbox files were nowhere to be found on my computer (either by looking in that specific heirarchy or by doing a Find for their names). Also, I did not delete any accounts at the time of the problem. I DID delete a folder from within Mail that showed up at the top of my Mail list, named "/" and which contained a single folder named "library" (I think?) which contained a single folder named "mail" or something to that effect. Basically, several folders nested within each other, with the bottom folder being caled "INBOX" (written like that) and containing mail that I had not seen before. I selected all, dragged it to my real InBox, and then deleted the top-level folder from Mail's list (named "/"). It was shortly thereafter that I lost all of my mail folders. I've never seen a mailbox folder just add itself to the list like that -- has anybody else? And then combine that with the fact that I was running a huge Photoshop file and had maxed out my hard drive's empty space as PS used it up for memory... So basically it evidently all set up a situation that caused corruption on a huge level, and caused me to lose every custom mailbox that I had defined, but not my InBox, Drafts, Sent Mail or Junk. (Luckily my Junk mail was saved, eh? How lucky for me. ha ha)
With the advice of folks here and at the Apple store and on the phone with data-saving software reps, I tried Disk Utility to first repair permissions and then fix the disk. It did find a few things on both tests, and I did repair them -- but Mail still wouldn't pull up those folders. I also ran TechTool and Data Rescue II on my drive (TAKING HOURS AND HOURS) -- but no luck.
Nobody ever seemed to think I would have much luck, but I had to give it a shot, since losing all of that mail was going to be hard for me.
And so this afternoon, I have come to the conclusion that my situation is hopeless, and I need to get back the use of my Powerbook (I have huge deadlines that I'm really behind on now, because of all of this down-time having software check my drive).
The lesson here, boys and girls, is to not take lightly the significance of hard drive space -- and to not only backup your most important files (like I did)... but to also back up your mail folder regularly... as well as any other quirky little things that might not seem obvious, but which if were eliminated from your life, would make you sad.
So thanks again to all who posted their suggestions -- it was worth my effort to give everything a shot, even though unfortunately there was not a happy ending.

  • Lost iMovie file - any way to recover?

After spending hours and hours working on an iMovie project, I dropped the finished file into iPhoto.  I have always been able to watch the video on iPhoto.
Recently I have being getting a message telling me about the lack of memory on my harddrive.  In order to free up some space I deleted all my iMovie projects and events.  For some reason, the video on iPhoto has also dissappeared too!
    a) Why is this?
    b) Is there any way I can recover the files?  Foolishly, I haven't backed-up the video to an external hard drive.
    Hope you can help!

Unfortunately I've been using my MBP to search for a solution, so I'm assuming that's ruled that one out?
I'm using some 'recovery software' at the moment called 'Disk Drill'.  It claims to be able to recover permanently deleted files, however it will only find them for free, to recover them will cost $90 (you need to buy the full version).
Apparently it's found 3GB of files so far, I think the file was about 30GB.
Do you think this is real, or some sort of scam?

  • Just upgraded to Lion (uggghh); lost mail; was able to get it to work, but lost folders and messages in those folders; any way to recover?

I was able to get mail working again, but when it rebuilt everything, I essentially lost all of my archived messages in my folders.  Is there a way to get this back while still staying on Lion?  The only answers I've seen are taking mail back down to Snow Leopard.
If the answer to the first question is no, is there a way to downgrade the OS back to Snow Leopard and then I could (hopefully) restore from my Time Machine back-up?

What do you mean you "essentially" lost all archived messages?  What exactly happened?
You can try restoring specific mailboxes/messages from your Time Machine backups.

  • HELP!  Is there any way to recover emptied trash?  I deleted christmas.

Help me save Christmas! I thought I was ejecting my camera but somehow I deleted my photos, and anal me empties the trash without looking.

So, you deleted the files from the camera before you were able to import them onto your computer, or did you accidentally erase them from both the camera and your computer?
If it's the latter, stop using the computer immediately, as any new files that might get created (including temporary files) can potentially overwrite the areas on the disk where your photos were stored.
If nothing has overwritten the areas on your disk where the photos were stored, software such as Data Rescue II has a good chance of recovering your files.
If you have a separate disk to boot from, do so, and run any recovery applications from that disk.

Since you haven't upgraded your iPhone from 4.3 there will also not be an iCloud back-up.,,, so.....
So there is no way to restore it, but before you start rekeying your contacts you should.
    1.  Back it up on Itunes (11.0.1) and a computer, it will help you upgrade your IOS (6.0.1) at the same time.
    2.  When complete ensure you have a back-up.
    3.  Set-up iCloud and iCloud back-up
    4.  Start keying....
    Sorry in advance..

  • Tried to sync my itouch with my laptop and accidentally erased all of my music.  HELP! Is there any way to recover my 800  songs?

I attempted to sync my ipod touch with my laptop and accidentally wiped out all of my music!  How can I recover my 1000+ songs?!!!  PLEASE HELP!

All media should be in the iTunes library on your computer.
Syncing is ONE way from computer to iPhone.
If the media was on your device, but not in your computer, then it's likely gone.
Do you have a backup of your media somewhere else? Like an external drive?

Don't know what you mean by "some time ago", but unless you activated Find My Phone and the phone is still on, the answer is no. (Even if you ask 3 times).

  • HELP!  I just got a 5S....synced to my computer....and lost the photos/videos that I took today before connecting to my computer that I need back!  Is there any way to recover these?

HELP!  I just got a 5S....synced to my computer....and lost the photos/videos that I took today before connecting to my computer that I need back!  Is there any way to recover these?

If you took pictures and then set up your phone using a back up from an old phone, you have erased the pictures. If you emailed or texted them to someone, you may be able to get them back that way.
    Best of luck.

  • Is there any way to recover ePrinter account email by using a ePrinter e-mail address?

My problem is as follows, I registered my printer onto ePrintCenter and set custom email address to my printer. But, I logged out from the ePrintCenter and sine that time I couldn't login into the ePrintCenter any more as the system says that the e-mail address I set for ePrinterCenter is not used in the system.
So, I have my ePrinter e-mail, is there any way to recover ePrintCenter email address by using the printer email?
    Thank you, Agrifert.

    Hi Agrifert,
Unfortunately its not possible to retrieve the email address you used to create your ePrintCenter account from the printer's ePrint email address. Are you still unable to log in to your ePrintCenter account? I'll wait to hear back from you before suggesting any further actions.
    Best.

  • All SMS msgs & recent contacts lost after IOS 5 update. Any way to recover please?

All my SMS msgs & recent contacts lost after IOS 5 upgrade, Any way to recover please?

Hello. I have the same problem - I upgraded to iOS 5 and in the process lost my contacts and ALL my SMS. I know that we can use backups to restore the information. But the problem is that my back ups are May 2011 and the day I did the upgrade, so nothing helpful there. I don't think the system did a backup before the upgrade. I did the upgrade on october 22. And for that date i have two back ups. I  restored the phone to the older backup and it restored my contacts but not my SMS. Is there ANY way I can get my SMS back????

  • Lost sys password ...any way to recover

    hi All
I lost the sys password ... is there any way to recover it ....
    Thanks

Pay no attention to the ridiculous piece of advice you've just been given by someone else! Restoring a prior backup would be a monumentally moronic thing to do -apart from anything else, all you'd be doing is restoring the password you say you've forgotten!
You don't say what OS you're on, and that makes a bit of a difference, but ultimately not much so I'll just carry on... but as a tip for the future, always mention your OS because then people replying don't have to guess.
    1. Members of the dba group (or the ORA_DBA group on Windows) are allowed to log on as a SYS without supplying a password at all. Connect / as sysdba means "get me on as sys, but I'm not telling you my password" -at which point Oracle checks who you're logged on to at the OS level, and then checks the group memberships of the dba (Linux/Unix) or ORA_DBA groups (Windows). If you're a member you're in... and then you can issue a command such as 'alter user sys identified by newpwd'.
You can only really do this technique, however, when you're connecting on the box which runs Oracle itself. If you don't have access to the server, it's not going to work. You also need to configure those OS groups with the appropriate tools. If you don't know how to do that, you're in trouble.
    2. If you're using a password file to authenticate as SYS, then you can simply delete the existing password file and replace it with a new one... and you get to specify the new password for SYS at the time you create the new file. The utility provided by Oracle for this purpose is "orapwd" and the command on Windows, for example, would look like:
    orapwd file=c:\oracle\10g\databases\pwdSID.ora password=newpwd entries=20
The file has to live in the ORACLE_HOME\database or ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory; it has to be called whatever is appropriate for your operating system (now you see why it helps to know your OS!) and the figure for "entries" represents how many people you might want to grant the SYSDBA privilege to in the future, so make it higher than you think you need right now.
On Linux, the required name for the password file is of the form orapwSID, where SID is the name of your instance/database. On Windows, it's as I showed you above: pwdSID.ora.
Once you have a new password file in place, you can log in as 'sys\newpword@somedb as sysdba' and again issue an 'alter user sys identified by yetanothernewpword' command: that will update the password file as well as changing things inside the database itself and you'll log on with that password thereafter.

  • HT5824 Any way to recover Chrome bookmarks if I've had iCloud since they were lost? Google dumped my bookmarks.

Any way to recover Chrome bookmarks if I've had iCloud on my PC, iPad and iPhone since before Google dumped them? Just noticed over thelast few days that my bookmarks were gone from iDevices, now I notice they're also gone from my PC.

    Hi Brian
I had the same exact thing happen to me - except it was my wireless keyboard that disabled my ipad.  I also have documents on Pages that I did not want t to lose.  This worked for me!  Found it on another help site....I was able reactivate my ipad - nothing lost - all is good!
    1. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    2. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    3. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    4. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    5. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    6. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    7. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
