HELP! Mac Jag to Visor Deluxe No or Slow Sync

Recently my handspring Visor Deluxe would not sync. It would sync address' no problem then get stuck during Date Book sync mode.  Eventually, "Connection lost" would appear.  I have uninstalled & installed iCal and Hotsync but it did not cure.  Now, I have to remove Visor batteries, clear memory and re-sync (download) iAddress & iCal but takes hours! If you have experienced this and fixed the problem please help.  Palm stores are all gone!

To disable a conduit, open hotsync manager, and from the hotsync menu select 'conduit settings'. Select the datebook conduit in the list that appears and click the 'conduit settings' button at the top of the window. You should be given four options, 'Synchronize the files', Macintosh overwrites handheld', 'handheld overwrites macintosh', and 'do nothing'. When you this window appears, the top option, 'synchronize files' should be selected. Click the button next to the bottom option, 'do nothing' and click ok. Then try a hotsync to see if it was the datebook that was causing issues.
If a hotsync succeeds with the datebook conduit disabled, then try a sync with either 'handheld overwrites macintosh', or 'macintosh overwrites handheld', whichever one has the most up to date information on, as it is a far simpler operation than comparing two databases of dates and updating both of them without duplicates.
When you say you reinstalled iCal, I assume you used software restore and the original installation DVD that came with your computer?

Hello ereader and welcome to the Palm fourms.
Palm Desktop 4.1.4 for Windows or 4.2.1 Rev D should work fine with your Visor.  What other software do you think you need?  What are you trying to do?

  • Visor Deluxe Battery Drain

So after getting software and crashing problems on my Visor Deluxe sorted out so it can be used as a nice ebook reader, it's now draining thru batteries at a fast rate (like 30 minutes...dead.).
I've seen a number of threads from past years about this, mostly they're just asking the same thing, but it's a new year, and maybe there's new info...
Might there be a software issue, or is the hardware just shot?

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!
You can try hard resetting the device just to check if it's software related or not but I think it's hardware. Palm no longer sells these devices nor repairs them. You will have to find a new battery or alternative option to get your device repaired. Check out www.usedpdaparts.com and www.pdaparts.com.

  • MacG4 now fails to sync with Visor deluxe

Same old story I am afraid.
My venerable Visor deluxe has been syncing with my Mac G4 running 10.4.11 using a travel USB cable (the one without a button) and Isync for years.
The Palm desktop system was 4.0 and hotsync worked fine.
A month or two ago this ceased. The Visor said there was no connection and Isync failed to detect the Visor,  counting down and inviting me to push the Hotsync button then went ahead without the Visor.
I figured it was a broken USB cable, especially as it began connecting at one point then stopped after about ten seconds.
So I got a new cable. This one is a Sitecom one, left over from the days of system 9 it appears, and it has a sync button on the side. The manual talks about configuring the modem to a PL20303 but I hope it actually works as normal with modern connections. Yet the visor still will not call up the palm software or be recognised by Isync.  I have reinstalled Palm desktop 4.0 and worryingly it failed to complete its install, jamming at UPD205.prc and later at anotherUPD number.
Any suggestions for working this one out?
    Many thanks

Updating my own post as investigation has advanced.
It seems to be a hardware problem as I managed to borrow another Visor de luxe and successfully hotsynced it using all of my cables.
The faulty Visor works fine in every regard except launch the desktop when the sync button is pressed. Instead it puts up a connecting message and then times out. Putting the applications out on the desktop of the computer does not make any difference.
Soft or hard resets do not make any difference so it looks like hardware - as I said everything else works fine.

  • Handspring Visor Delux Desktop Problem

I have been using a Handspring Visor with Windows XP Home for the last 3 years with out any problem until October of this year.  I tried to open the desktop program which came with the Visor and it failed with a "Invalid adrress file" message and the error message referred me to the Palm Support web site.
I downloaded the 401 update of the original program and installed on the computer and tried HotSync, but it failed sync.  I they tried the following updates: USBREGClean, HS_Updater & DSTUpdater and reinstalled the original program and the updated (401) but still no success in getting the desktop program to open ot a HotSync.
Any suggestions before I throw the Visor in the trash.  I would like to keep using the Visor.....  I have been using the Visor for the last 2 months, but am very concerned because I can't add to the desktop.  I thought one of the Windows update was cuaing the problem and went back to a restore point in September when the last HotSync worked, but again no success.
    Thanks for your help.

Glad to hear it worked for you.
    Just as an FYI, you might want to export your data from palm desktop for disaster recovery. Follow the procedure below;
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.

Hi internet on my Mac(OS10.9.1) suddenly became very slow.  Could somebody help me?  Thanks.

    Try resetting everything:
power down everything: modem, router, and computer
power up each item in turn in the same order: modem, router, and computer. Let each power up completely before moving on to the next.

  • Help Mac Help - "Discovering Your Mac" constantly reloads (flashing...)

    The problem:
constant automatic repeated reload of help page
Navigating the Menu to Help > Help Mac gives the "Mac Help" page as expected.
On this page is a link "Work smart, play hard." headed "Discovering Your Mac".
Clicking this link the "Discovering Your Mac" help page appears but is in a state of constant automatic repeated reload (as if the menu View > Reload were being constantly selected).
This iBook G4 12" (MacOS X 10.4.4) is straight out of the Box purchased this week from Computerwarehouse.com.
    Main Question:
Is this normal out of the box behaviour that just has to be patched or is this a fault that should prompt me to send back the iBook.
    Background:
I bought a Mac for home use because I'm fed up with spending more time configuring Wintel PCs than using them.
Surely a Mac should not do this out of the box - or am I being hopelessly naive.
    Comuterwarehouse’s solution:
Purchased from Computerwarehouse (thank god I didn’t buy from PC World).
Removed the cache folder “com.apple.helpui”. This didn’t work. There next suggestion is to update to 10.4.6. I am waiting to do this (they will post me CD since I’m on dialup at home and strict download restrictions at work). After this the suggestion is a complete reinstall.
    See http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2598465 for original post
Have since updated to 10.4.6 using the combo update and the behaviour remains.
Do I realy need to reinstal - I have a funny feeling this behaviour will remain after a reinstall.
    Any assistance greatly welcomed.
    Thanks in advance.
    Doug.

    Have updated to 10.4.6
Looked at the troubleshooting HelpViewer link.
Been through as many options as seem related.
The iPhotoPhotocast.plugin is installed. Removing this and the cache files then restarting has no effect.
    Have verified the disk.
But the MacHelp page does work when connected to the internet.
MacHelp.help does link to the internet so perhaps updates itself. Do help files update them selves, or is the extra content just held in a cache file somewhere?
What is the latest version of MacHelp.help?
    I have version 3000.8 159.6 MB created 26 Aug 2005 23:47
It looks like this gets modified - last modified today 00:24.
How can i reload just this help file.
What is the current version of HelpViewer?
    I have 3.0.0 (144.1)
Does help viewer get updated when you do an update? e.g. from 10.4.4 to 10.4.6.
Just noticed 10.4.7 now available - another 65MB download on dial up and Apple refuse to send it on a CD to me.
Would be intereseted in any answers on the help file version and how I get it.
    Thanks
    Doug.

  • POP mail with a Visor Deluxe

So far I have configured a Visor Deluxe using Multimail to send out email through an IR link to a mobile phone using a dialup connection.
I use a gmail account to send it but at the moment it will not pick up any mail using pop3 settings.
The dialup mail address mail.free-dialup.net works if you put it on the server line of Multimail's SMTP options.
The Mail server page of Multimail has a Pop3 or Imap4 option. If you put pop.gmail.com in the pop3 line you
would have thought it worked - but it doesn't, returning an authentication problem.
Anyone have any ideas what's going wrong?  I can live with only sending mail but it would be nice to receive too.
As to getting the gprs link to take over instead of dial-up - well that's next but it refuses to do that yet!

Thanks - SSL must be the problem. Now successfully sending and receiving mail using a www.hotpop.com account. For anyone finding this thread through a websearch I have found Hezarts mMail is a good email sender for the Visor Deluxe.
If you are wondering why on earth I bother with an old Visor it's because I have a Stowaway fold-up keyboard and need to send occasional very long emails on the move - trying to write those on a blackberry keyboard is miserable!

I have an ipod Classic 80G. It is a few years old and hasnt been used for  a while. I have just tried to sync it to my new Mac and it says theat thei ipod is synced with another itunes account!!!
It was orriganally managed through my old pc but as far as i am aware the itunes account is the same. If i sync with my mac it will remove all that is in the Classsic and replace it with current itunes!
How can i get round this ?

    Hi Becki ..
You need to "authorize" the Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac then from the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click Store > Authorize This Computer.
Now, using the same Apple ID as you used to purchased iTunes media originally, you should be able to sync all your content.

Your iPad needs access to the internet via Wi Fi or 3G in order to access the App Store.
Tap the App Store icon in your iPad.
In the search field top right in the App Store window type in:
ipad user guide for ios 4.3. Tap Free / Get Book
As for Safari on your Mac crashing, you can start a new topic and post a crash report so we can try and help.
Click New / Discussion. Select Safari.
    Refine This LIst. Select Mac.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash  information.
Now copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply.
If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.
Safari could be crashing due to third party unsupported  add ons. Follow the troubleshooting instructions here.

  • My 13" Mac Pro behaves like everything is in slow motion. Takes forever to do anything, on or offline. Would this be a software conflict or a hardware problem?

My 13" Mac Pro behaves like everything is in slow motion. Takes forever to do anything. Wondering if this is a software issue or a hard drive problem?

    Maybe some maintenance will help:
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation.  TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible;  Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided.  Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.  Other utilities are also available such as Onyx, Leopard Cache Cleaner, CockTail, and Xupport, for example.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Backuplist
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    iBackup
    JaBack
    Silver Keeper
    MimMac
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    SuperDuper!
    Synchronize Pro! X
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
I have been using the Mac App Store from day one and have never seen this area of which you speak. There are a number of apps where the developer has created both a Mac version and an iOS version, but I haven't a clue how you would do a search of the Mac App Store to find them.
