Help MacBook Pro (2011) doesn't recognise internal display but only external display

Screen has been replaced but that didn't solve anything. MacBook connects fine to any of my TVs but doesn't display anything on its own screen. Have seeked professional help to no avail. Someone please help.

Start your mac up by holding the alt key. That is boot from function.
If its empty then you might have a hard drive issue. Due to your hard drive being picked up but not the partition on the drive. This will most probably be a OS X reinstall.
Erase the drive and reinstall the OS X or run a recovery mode.
Good luck

  • FaceTime help MacBook Pro 2011

Hello! I need help with my MacBook Pro 2011. I really would like to FaceTime my friends, but it does not let me. I am running Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8. Do I need to get Lion? When I try to FaceTime someone, it goes through and says connecting, but then it randomly ends. I am so confused!

Check for updates to FaceTime in the Mac App Store.
Also, with FaceTime running, in the menu bar at the top of the screen, go to FaceTime > About FaceTime. What version?

  • Macbook Pro Retina doesn't see internal SSD drive

    Hi Guys,
I have a problem with my Macbook Pro Retina 13(late 2012). Yesterday I've done clean install of Yosemite. Everything worked fine, and I wanted to restore my files using Time Machine. So I restarted it (command +R), plugged in my extertal hard drive, turned on TM restore option and chose my SSD drive as a place to install. Mac asked me to enter password for the SSD (default filevault2 in yosemite), I entered the password, system accepted it and then something went wrong. System told me to restart mac and try again. I restarted it, and did like previous but this time, my mac stopped to see his internal SSD drive. System was asking where to install yosemite form Time Machine and there were no drive to choose. I turned on disc utility, and I see my SSD drive there but I can't erase it, or unlock (picture in appendage). I can only verify disc and it shows that drive is fine. I've tried to install Yosemite on my external drive and boot from there,to unlock SSD in settings(I've chose my Ex. drive as a place to install Yosemite) but it didn't work. I even tried internet recovery (command+option+R) but I didn't help, SSD drive was still useless.
I think my SSD is still locked, but I don't know how to unlock it now. I don't need to use Time Machine anymore(I have my files in other drive too). It can be clean install but please, can somebody tell me what to do? I have exams this week and really need a computer :<

  • MacBook Pro 2011 doesn't charge the battery at all. Only works with the powercord. Reset SMC already. Ideas?

The battery doesn't charge at all anymore.
My Macbook pro suddenly stopped working without the cord plugged in.
And when the laptop is switched off, it switches on by its own as soon as I plug it in.
I reset the SMC, to no avail.
    Any tips?
    Thanks.

If it has a replaceable battery, then consider replacing it.
Open System Profiler in Utilities folder. After it opens click on the Power entry in the sidebar. See what it reports for your battery. If it's no longer usable it will generally say "Service."
If you don't have a user-replaceable battery, then take it to an Apple Store.

  • My used Macbook Pro 2011 doesn't have iLife software

I bought a used Macbook Pro and the iLife software is not on the computer, I was wondering if there is a way to recover it?

Unless you're able to install them from a DVD, click here, contact Apple, and accept the answer you get.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 boots to Recovery disc or bootcamp only after successfully installing bootcamp on Mt Lion 10.8, the 3 harddiscs are there, but selectin Mac HD will boot to recovery disc

On my Macbook Pro 13.3" mid 2011 model, with Lion and bootcamp, upgrading to Mountain lion 10.8 hung for the whole night. It failed to boot up, I was panic, reinstall the OS in the hope it will repair the boot disc, but it locked up the macintosh HD.
I rebuilt OS without bootcamp from backed up image (Lion) then upgraded to Mountain lion, no problem at all. Used it for a couple of days, then installed bootcamp and restored the Windows 7 image from the backup. It's completed without any problem. It can boot up in Windows 7 and I changed startup disc in control panel to Mac HD, it can only boot from the recovery disc. Holding down the option key will show the 3 hard discs: Macintosh HD, Windows and Recovery 10.8, but selecting Mac HD always boots up by recovery disc. I have use disk utility from recovery disc to verify and repair Macintosh HD to no avail.
If I use only mountain lion, it will be OK.
Has anyone experience the same problem? Thank you.

  • Macbook Pro sound doesn't go to Display

When I plug in my Macbook Pro, with Lion (And when SL) my external mac monitor is active. My laptop is on its stand, closed.
The sound stays with the laptop.  I can go into the system prefs and change it to the monitor, but shouldn't it happen automaticly?
    What am I missing?

Downloaded the latest update for audio stuff, but when I attempt to run the file, it says I don't need the update on this computer.  Downloading other display update... see what happens.
Look in Software Update to see if either is correct for your MBP.

  • Recently upgraded my macbook pro 13 late 2009 to an ssd but only getting a quarter of the speed

Hi, i recently upgraded my macbook pro 13 inch to a OCZ VERTEX 3 240gb ssd. The drive is supposed to be able to have write speeds of 500mb/s and read speeds of up to 550 mb/s but when i run a speed test on the disk im only getting a max write speed of around 105 mb/s, and read speed of 137mb/s ish, now the negotiated speed is only 1.5gb/s I have trim enabled, and i have tried changing the link speed but with no luck. The drive is rated for 6gb/s also. The drive is not in the hard drive bay because my hard drive cable is broken, i have it in the optical bay right now, could someone please help me or tell me how to make the drive at least go up to sata 3 speeds,

The 2009 MBPs were built with a very cheaply made HDD to LB cable. So I bet if you change that cable you will see more speed from that SSD.

  • How do I reboot my Macbook pro 2011 to a new internal hard drive?

I had to get a new internal hard drive and I can't afford to pay some one to do it for me. So I was wondering how do I install the operating system on to the hard drive?
    Thanks

Since we don't know which MBP you have or what OS was initially installed on it, try this. Start up the Mac and hold down the Command and "R" keys. If you have an internet connection and if the MBP came with Lion installed, you should be able to boot into Internet Recovery. From there, you can download Lion from Apple's servers and install it. That's assuming the new HD has already been installed and formatted (you can format it yourself using the Disk Utility that's available in Internet Recovery).

  • 2011 MacBook Pro 13" Keyboard and trackpad completely unresponsive. Only external devices work. Restarting does nothing.

Was in the middle of a game and the keyboard and track board became completely unresponsive. Was using an external mouse so I was able to restart the computer but it has done nothing to help. Also closed the screen for a while to no effect.

  • Macbook pro acting as if it was on but only grey screen appears.

    Hi All,
I am having some rather strange issue with my MBP which is driving me mad.
A couple of days ago I was watching a video and all the sudden the screen started sort of vibrating and then the whole system just froze, had to shut it down by holding the power button.
I then switched it back on, it started booting up but it got stuck at the grey screen with the apple logo and that little wheel spinning, which then stopped spinning and it just stayed like that. Initially I thought it was just the grey screen issue people sometimes get, but I actually noticed that the system is on, or at least is behaving as if it was on (I can change the volume, the buttons are also active, but screen is still the same grey with the logo and wheel).
What I have tried so far:
    Safe mode- did not help
Verbose mode with command fsck -fy - found no issue
Booting up from installation disc - it asks me to shut down the computer
Resetting the NVRAM - did not help
Single user mode - did not help
Has anyone got any idea what the problem might be?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi there,
    Thanks for your reply.
It says "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off..."
Below this is the same message in other languages such as French, German etc...a black box in the middle of the screen with I/O sign in the background.
    Thanks,

  • Is there a compatibility issue with the Current USB 3 external Hard drives and MacBook Pro 2011 (USB 2)?

I am currently having bad hangs with my 13" MacBook Pro (2011) which I book 2012 ad a New external Harddrive (WD My Passport Edge) which was given to me as a gift.
Friends of mine told me there is a compatibility issue between the USB 3 cord and the USB outlet of my MacBook Pro.
Although this shouldnt be the case as the box of the Hard drive I got said it was compatible.
I even downloaded the WD Drive Utilities and sometimes whenthe Harddrive is plugged in the Utilities doean't Open but just bleeps in the Applications Dock.
Before I used the Harddrive I read a lot from the WD Manual and went to their site and downloaded a firmware update so I really don't know what the problem is.
What I am afraid of is that I may lose some files if I place them in the external Harddrive.
Can anyone help me with this or should I be asking for a replacement harddrive?
This is my first experience with an external hard drive as I never used one before.
    Thank you very much.

To be honest, I've had back luck with Western Digital drives and I avoid them at all costs. If I were you, I would return the WD drive and look at externals from OWC or MacMall (LaCie, even G-Tech).
That's just my personal opinion, mind you...

  • Display issue - My macbook pro 2011 detects my display but does not display an image

Hi, I am having a problem connecting my MacBook Pro (2011) to my HP 2511x display.  I used the display all morning with my mbp connected and closed.  When I came back, after the computer went to sleep, I cannot get any image on the display.  The computer detects the display but no image appears.
    I have tried-
Installing the latest firmware and software updates
restarting both the computer and monitor
trying all of the possible display arrangements and settings for resolution and refresh rates
Also I am connected using a minidisplay to DVI adaptor in the thunderbolt port.
    Any and all suggestions appreciated.
    thanks.

    Hello Aminetti,
It sounds like your computer goes to sleep, and will not wake up, so you must manually restart your computer. I recommend the troubleshooting in the following article:
OS X: When your Mac doesn't sleep or wake
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5357
    Reset SMC
    Reset NVRAM/PRAM
    Test with external devices disconnected
    Try Safe Mode
    Try another user account
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling
