Help! Magic Mouse accidental deleting?

I've only had my new iMac and Magic Mouse for a month. Mostly the latter is fine but one issue is troubling. What am I doing to cause it to suddenly delete/undo what I just typed? is it the "swiping?" all I know is that I'm in the middle of writing an email when suddenly, my text is gone and there is no option for me to "undo" what has been erased. This is also causing me lots of grief while working in Finale....Thanks for any suggestions/help anyone can give me.
Nan

I'm having the same problem!! It's happening when I'm writing descriptions for products that I'm selling online. My hand will be on the mouse but not even moving and suddenly the browser goes back to the previous page and I lose my whole description! I'm not able to undo it or use the forward/back buttons on the browser to find my lost page and text. It happens totally randomly and I can't figure out what's causing it!! Grrrrr....

  • HELP! I Accidentally deleted the iTunes folder in the My Music folder

HELP! I Accidentally deleted the iTunes folder in the My Music folder so I lost the two files
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Music Library.xml
As I understand it, these files contain all the play counts, ratings, etc. and I've spent weeks getting this info the way I want it and don't want to lose it.
I have all my mp3 files on my desktop computer HD under a seperate directories, so I'm not worried about loosig origninal music files. I don't have iTunes copying the files when I add them to the library and I do have "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" checked. I have not relocated any of the original music files.
I have not auto synced my iPod, and I can open the iPod in iTunes and all my songs, with play counts, ratings, etc. are there. I just want to get the playlists, play counts. ratings, catagories, etc. back to my PC.
Is there any way to get the playlists, play counts. ratings, catagories, etc. from the data on the iPod and recreate the .itl & .xml files on my PC? I see there are many files on the iPod two of which look promising "iTunesDB" & "iTunesPlaylists".
Can someone please tell my how to recreate just the .itl & .xml files by using the info on the iPod itself? Again, I have not relocated or lost any of the original music files, I just want to get the playlists, play counts. ratings, catagories, etc. back that are stored in the .itl file.
I really don't want to have a software utility copy the info over as then I will have two copies of my music files and I've spent a lot of time organizing and naming the mp3 files just the way I want (not the way iTunes wants).
I've read many posts and it seems many have screwed up recovery by trying things without clear direction.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Try some of the more robust recovery/trnsfer programs. Several can recover the playlists, and metadata of the songs on the iPod. Do some reading on the respective websites.
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?

Please help I just accidentally deleted a very very important note from my "Notes" on my iPhone 4s.  How can I get it back?
Is there a "Trash" file somewhere for deleted notes?
    Thank you,
    Susan

Had you never backed up the phone before? When you saw the iTunes logo and cable, the device was in recovery mode. The data was already lost. The only way to recover from that is to restore the device, which will delete all of your data. You will only be able to restore to your last backup, whenever that was. Sorry this happened, but this highlights the importance of doing regular backups. The backup is the only protection you have against a problem like this.

Help I have accidentally deleted the var folder on my mac and now it won't start up what should I do?

/var is a hidden folder, so you mustn't remove the folder.
The only solution is to reinstall OS X. If you have OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, use OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Hold Command and R keys while your MacBook is starting and reinstall OS X. You won't lose anything. If you have a backup, you can restore it after starting in OS X Recovery instead of reinstalling Mac OS X, so you will save a lot of time

    Reinstall OS X.
Reinstall Snow Leopard without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Can I set up a gesture on my magic mouse to delete a highlighted email in Mail ?

Can I set up a gesture on my magic mouse to delete a highlighted email in Mail ?

In Safari I use a tap on the apple stem (via Magic Prefs) to close a window.  I really like that functionality.
I was hoping to be able to set up the same gesture specifically for Mail to delete emails.
No big deal.  I was just just wondering how to possibly set up custom gestures like this.
    Thanks.

  • Magic Mouse: Accidental Input

Do you scroll and adjust things by mistake with your Magic Mouse?
Sometimes as I move the Magic Mouse my fingers accidentally touch the surface causing scrolling to occur (unintentional input). During general use (e.g., using the Finder, surfing the web) this isn't a problem but in other environments (such as Photoshop or other apps requiring a degree of precision) it can be extremely annoying as your workspace may suddenly jump to another position or other things may happen inadvertently.
    *My questions are:*
    1. Has anyone else encountered this phenomenon? If so, please respond here to draw attention to this issue.
    2. Will it be possible for Apple to address this through software/firmware updates?
    *Solutions that are not helpful:*
    a) Adjusting the sensitivity (scrolling/tracking speed) of the mouse
    b) Learning to use the mouse differently (in a physical sense)
After using the mouse for several weeks, this remains as the biggest complaint. This was not an issue with the Mighty Mouse.

Hi Severed Head & welcome to discussions
Not sure how you can compare the two at all in that sense.
Magic is essentially a touch-pad with over 100 actual sensors - Mighty was a mouse with buttons...
While many applauded the innovation, not all users became comfortable with a laptop that features a touch-pad. I suspect you may be in this group.
If you are unable to either relate or adopt to the specific interaction that Magic, just like a touch-pad, provides you may be better suited with a conventional mouse...not a problem, it's just a fact of living a digital life that not all gadgets delight all users in all ways.
I believe Apple Stores have a two-week return window.

  • Magic Mouse accidentally clicks on tap since 10.9.4

I have a Magic Mouse connected by Bluetooth to my MacBook Pro. When I tap (not click, just touch the plastic surface) I get a click. I also rest my finger on the mouse (who doesn’t?) so I get a lot of accidental clicks. This is a major issue for me. I think this behavior starten when I upgraded to Mac OS 10.9.4.
I found a terminal command on the web that should turn tapping off, but that did not help. The command was "sudo defaults -currentHost write NSGlobalDomain com.apple.mouse.tapBehavior -int 0“ and I got it from http://osxdaily.com/2014/01/31/turn-on-mac-touch-to-click-command-line/
    Please help!

It seems like this solved the problem:
    disconnecting the Magic Mouse
    taking out the batteries
    putting them in again and
    connecting via bluetooth.

  • Help magic mouse with imac early 2006 (4,1)

Hello i have a problem with my new magic mouse, the mouse lost connection frequently. The old mighty mouse work correctly 100%.
I tried delete the bluetooth preference and start imac with DVD leopard and snow leopard (the mouse don't work in installation gui because lost connection).
This is a known bug? How can i fix it?
    Thanks

If you have read my post, I can only recommend -
    1) shut everything down and disconnect your Mac at the wall socket, wait about a minute, then plug back in and restart; then
    2) remove the batteries and press the silver connector buttons in the battery compartment a few times, replace the batteries, reconnect using the Bluetooth Preferences panel, and
    3) repair 'Permissions' using Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities/DIsk Utility)
I don't know if this works but I did all these and the problem has gone away. It least I haven't had the problem for the last ten or so hours now, so there you go.
I think the answer is in either 1 or 2 above, maybe both.

  • Help!  I accidentally deleted Automator

I accidentally deleted the Automator application. I run a Mac 10.4.11 (just haven't needed to update...everything works fine as it is), and recently found I needed the Automator in order to record macros using the Word program on my Mac. How can I replace the Automator application itself?

  • Help!  I accidentally deleted "music videos" how do I get it back??????

Help!!! I have been having mega difficulty since upgrading to iTunes 7.4.1---big mistake upgrading to that!!! Anyway I've had numerous problems----in my process to make everything work properly---I noticed I had duplicate listings under "music videos"----when I tried to delete the duplicates it deleted the catagory "music videos"-----they are listed under purchased videos, but I can't find "music videos". Now, as a result I can't put my videos on my iPod---it won't recognize and alternate "music videos" file I placed under playlists. So, how do I get the catagory "music videos" back with my purchased videos listed???? I have Windows Vista Home Premium on a Hewlett Packard computer. Thanks for any and all assistance you can give me.

Can I still take into consideration re-installing the entire OS?
You can, but extracting just the QT Player app would be faster.
I tried using Pacifist to extract the QT X Player but I can't find it.
When the Pacifist list of extract items is displayed, check the following path...
    Contents of OSInstall.mkpg
       Contents of EssentialsSystemSoftware
          Contents of EssentialSystemsSoftwareGroup
             Contents of Essentials.pkg
                Applications
                   QuickTime Player.app
I just performed a test extraction from my original Snow Leopard upgrade installer disc and had no problems using this path.

  • Help! I accidentally deleted a whole genre of songs

    Hi there,
I was listined to my Jazz genre in iTunes 11.0.2, and then accidently pressed down some random keys on my keyboard  (upper left corner, so including the delete ket - i'm guessing?) and next thing i know, all my "jazz music is gone!  this is hundred's of albums that were purchase and uploaded by me into my library!  I've searched for the artists names in my library and they are not there - are the missing forever?    I am using iTunes Match. Is there any way to recover them? And is there any way to see what i lost? I have not idea, b/c i was listening to a genre and i don't know what was in that collection.  But even the category "jazz" is missing from the Genre's in Itunes!
I did strop and reload my itunes. And i did check my trash.. but they are not there. Please help!
    <3 Cindy

To anyone who might be reading this thread, after some fiddleing I was able to solve the problem:
    Here's the steps i did:
    1.  I created a new itunes library on my external drive, then the songs sorted by genre, then i knew which songs were missing. I wrote down the names of those albums
    2. I then closed itunes, and disconnected my external drive.
    3. Then, with my external drive disconnected, I reopened itunes, to my old library (the one connected to itunes match, where the song were missing)
    3. Then I reconnected my external drive, and dragged the missing albums into the itunes library that had itunes match.
    Problem fixed,
    Thanks,
    Cindy

  • Help!  I accidentally deleted all of my autofill usernames & passwords!

Ok so I was trying to delete one of my screen names from within the autofill preferences. Unfortunately, I clicked the delete all button, not the delete selected button. This cleared the long list of saved items.
I then went into my keychain to see if I had permanently deleted them but luckily they are still there. The problem is that under access control, Camino (my old browser) is the only application shown to have permission to use it. I know that I can add safari to the list but I would have to do each one individually.
I also tried using Automator (which I've never done before) and its tracing feature but I couldn't quite figure out how to make it do different keychains.
So my question is: is there an easy way to make safari recognize my keychains again?

I wouldn't bother trying to figure out what files need to be restored; I'd just restore your whole system from the most recent backup made before you deleted the stuff you didn't want to delete. This is done by running Time Machine while booted from the Leopard install DVD.
I suppose you could hunt around, Google, ask for help, etc., to find out exactly what files need to be restored and just restoring those. But I bet that will use up more of your time and energy than just reverting everything.
