Help: Making a DVD with Toast, but No Audio

I have searched on here and other places, found some helpful information and hints, but still nothing has worked out completely right.
I have some .avi files I want to put on a DVD and I'm using the burning program Toast 7 in the DVD-Video tab to do it. I have been able to successfully burn video DVDs when the audio is mpga format, but when the audio is in either A52 or AC3 format, the video loses the audio.
I was told I might need to get the A52Codec.comonent and the AC3 Codec.component files for QuickTime. I did that and installed them in the proper folders. I got the audio to work when the video when it is played in QuickTime (it didn't before). That's great and all, but when I burned with Toast 7, there was still no audio, only video came out again.
I don't know what I need to do. Do I need to convert the .avi to an audio Toast 7 can read and burn (like mpga)? Or is there some .component file I can download and drop it in my Components folder, which will allow the audio to burn correctly to the DVD?
Thank you to anyone who can assist me. I have been at this for 2 days now and have throw out a handful of DVDs trying to get this to work.

Casper,
Okay I want to sing the friendly ghost from the show when I see your name.
I burn avi all the time in Toast 7.1.2 Toast and I usually convert them to divx to fit 10-11 hours of video on there, but I've done it with DVD video. A friend lent me a movie once with no sound and here is the problem that will work everytime. You need to download the VLC player to get it to work right. Here is the link: http://www.videolan.org/
Didn't even know they had an intel one as I have the other version on my Powerbook and just transferred it to my intel one. Once it is downloaded you click on the orange striped cone and then you will see a little VLC box come up. The most effective way to view any file is to go to File up top and then scroll to open file (I've down the quick open file too and then you see a open box and a button that says browse next to it. Click the browse and find the movie or divx you want to watch and click open and then okay, then click the play arrow that is on your desktop and viola. You can go up top too and go to video and click full size screen etc.
If this was helpful or solved your problem please click the helpful or solved button up top. If this doesn't work let me know too.

  • Making First DVD with Toast, Any Catches?

Having finished my first short movie in iMovie as best I could, I'm trying to burn it to DVD using Toast. The only way I see to get the whole movie in as a continuous entity is to take the entire Quicktime movie from the Media Browser to the video Content Area. Otherwise it's all broken up into random clips.
Once it's there, are you supposed to just put a DVD in the burner and click record? Is there no way to play it in Toast first and KNOW what you are getting, or do you just trust?
ARE THERE ANY CATCHES? AM I ABOUT TO DO SOMETHING WRONG, OR RIGHT?
Thanks for any help or advice.

When I managed to access the menu, rather than just the virtual remote which first comes up, and clicked on the first window, the entire Disc Image played--PERFECT. Picture is a little pixillated--hopefully will look better on a TV than the computer--but the sound was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT and EVERYTHING was in synch EXACTLY AS MEANT TO BE.
My remaining question is, having selected everything before making the Disc Image, such as form, quality, etc., is all I do just burn the Disc Image in Toast to DVD? Or is there some hidden step such as other forms to select? Thanks!

I really appreciate the fast sent solution about my failure to burn DVDs with Lion, but I am 89 years old and think I know something about computers, but don't have a clue about ZAPPing PRAM nor RESET SMC.  I also can't find any evidence of a preserved earlier OS (Snow Leopard).  I also don't know how to partition further my drive after all this time…(I used to have Parallels partitioned) but as I said I cannot find any where on the HD SN.  Is it possible that it doesn't exist anymore?  Not too technical, please, unless that is the only possible answer to this whole delemna..

I'm making a DVD with my iMOVIE and when I tried to burn a DVD I got an error message that said
    "ERRORS IN PROJECT
There were errors during the project validation that have to be fixed before burning the project."
What does this mean and how do I fix it.

  • Making a DVD with 3 iMovie projects

I am fairly new at making a DVD. I have iMovie 9.0.4 and am on a Mac OS X version 10.6.8.
My question is: I would like to make a DVD with 3 chapters.
Chapter #1 would be an iMovie project (13 minutes)
Chapter #2 would be an iMovie project ( 8 minutes)
Chapter #3 would be an iMovie project (14 minutes)
I have all three of the movie projects completed.
At this time they are all seperate projects in iMovie.
They are the only projects that I have in imovie.
I hope to combine all three projects on one DVD and provide the DVD to classmates for a 50 year reunion.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Good or bad info. To be honest - I never use the SlideShow way - but it's well described in this forum and I tested it to be sure that it works. Problem I came up on was
    • Black framing - One must select to not scale photos in SlideShow
    • Bad sound - as I had to high level it resulted in severe distortion - Lowering it helped
So the problems can be handled - but in reality I rather do
    • One movie containing all parts and Chapter Marks set to match. This too has a built in problem as one can not set Chapter Marks in transitions or within 2 sec from them (OR IN VERY BEGINNING OF MOVIE). But there is a way around this too.
    • Export the combined movie as Full Quality QuickTime .mov
    • Import this QT.mov and now You can set the Chapter Marks (except at very beginning = no need to do this - iDVD does this by it self)
And then I add each Chapter as a free movie too
This works greatly - BUT the Con in this case is that it takes x2 space on DVD. For material less than 60 min this is no problem - but for longer movies one has to be even more elaborate to fix it.
    Good Luck !

  • Putting an iPhoto slideshow on DVD with Toast

    Hello
I have a LaCie DVD burner, bought from the Apple shop in London with Toast Titanium 6. I want to save an iPhoto slideshow to DVD. Problem is, every time I try to drag a song from the Finder to Toast, I get the message that I do not have a valid Jam license.
Can anyone please explain this to me? I am wondering if the Apple shop may have sold me the wrong product for my iBook!
    Thanks...

PS. I can now get both slide-show and music on the DVD but can't play them simulteneously.
Thanks to anyone who can advise..

  • Making a DVD with chapters

I'm making a DVD on iDVD with chapters but it won't play all the way through unless it comes back to the menu. I could do it on DVD Pro but it doesn't have the theme I am using on iDVD and it won't let me import it either. iDVD let me make scenes or chapters but not where it supposed to be. How can I change that?
    Thoughts anyone?
    Sheyla

    Hi Sheyla
This can be more than one problem. As I get it You are using FinalCut Pro and iDVD.
    Then
    • How do You go from FCP to iDVD - all steps described ?
    • Are You aware of the iDVD BUG ?
I have a general note on this and more - Please read.
    FCE/P to iDVD
Several things that I keep in mind
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mixdown
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this eg .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screensaving

  • Making a DVD with HD and SD assets

How can I make a SD DVD with HD and SD assets and retain the highest quality on the HD material? I have tried mixing the short vidoes on an SD timeline in Final Cut Pro, then rendering out the HD and export using Best Quality 90 min DVD settings in Compressor. I then import that file into a DVDSP project, and then chapter out that track and make stories to create separate play buttons for each video and a Play All button as well. The quality of the HD material seems worse than that of the SD material. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks. Robin.

Do you know how to best compress HD for optimal play on standard DVD players?
If I am just dealing with HD material, I will send out the timeline as a self-contained .mov in ProRes (I like self-contained, saves some time on re-encoding) then use Compressor to make a SD m2v. You can start with the preset but then go in and change the frame controls to “Better” and also change the encoding rate if there is room to increase the rate.
    Calculating rates [information here|http://dvdstepbystep.com/faqs_7.php]
Can get very good results from HD material delivered as SD format.
When mixing things, it becomes more challenging. Depending on the material (is most of the material HD or SD in original format, can they be edited separately or do they need to go from one to the other to make the movie, etc.) I may try various approaches. If the majority of the footage is HD, I may just go with an HD timeline (though the SD material will not look as good.)
When you say the quality of the HD material is worse, what is worse? Given all things being equal, camera quality (in other words you are not using an extremely high end SD camera and a $300 consumer HD cam, one is really good lighting with little movement, while the other is high speed race cars in streelights at night) the HD footage shouldn't look worse than the SD material...

  • Scan lines appear when making a dvd with idvd

Edited footage in FCE...exported to quick time, everything looks fantastic...made a dvd with idvd, and final product shows scan lines, or jagged lines...does anyone know what caused this?

I'm seeing the same thing in some photos but not all and not in video clips...

  • Making a dvd with menu (without using DVD Studio Pro)

    Hey,
I'd like to make a dvd with menu / titles etc in FCP X, but don't know how (without using DVD Studio Pro - which I no longer have!)
Also, is there a way to burn multiple movies onto one dvd in Compressor?
    Cheers,

  • Can I Make A DVD With Video & 24-Bit Audio?

I want to make a DVD with videos and, as a special feature, 13 24-bit enhanced playable audio tracks.
    Is this possible in iDVD?
    Thanks!

Toast 8 has a 96kHz/24-bit option in making Music DVDs as well as a 48 kHz/24-bit option. (Note: these are NOT DVD-Audio discs which require a special player.)
'Normal' Toast audio is 48 kHz/16-bit.

  • My Droid Razr Max at times when making a call will conect but drops audio both sides?

When making calls it will connect but you can hear the other party and neither can they hear me. I was advised to do a hard reset but this did not solve th eissue. I was issued a new phone and now it is doing the same thing. The only thing that helps is to turn it off and then on again. Any suggestions?

Try another Sim Card handle it by it's Edges as you don't want to Touch the Gold Area of it because of Static Electricity and the Oils in our Fingers can Harm it and cause the Phone to not Operate Correctly) When you install the Card Make sure you Fully seat it in just like a SD card as it Has a Spring Mechanism that pulls the Card in the Phone.. Try those things and make sure the PRL is up to Date) Call customer service 1-800-922-0204 option 3 Tech services and have them check this for you if you need it they will push it to your Maxx the Card does this Automatically no Need for *228.. • [HELP] Originally only edited with 2 channels of audio on files now I need 4?!?

premiere pro cs6, already edited a film and need to add the sound. I have them synced with the 4 channel audio attached but the original edit the files only had 2 channels, how can import the new ones with the 4 channels back into the program and get the 4 channels in the timeline? The problem I'm having is that it was set up with only 2.

maybe this does a better job of explaining:
I edited a film without syncing the sound first, and the video files only had 2 audio channels.  After syncing they have 4, but when I import them back into premiere it only allows me to use to of the audio channels, is there anyway to get them back in to premiere with all 4 channels attached.

  • HT4997 I want to burn a movie to a dvd with iMovie but idvd doesn't show up in the "share" menu--why?  My SuperDrive indicates that my DVD+R can be written to.  Please Help.

I just spent a week creating an iMovie and wanted to burn it to a DVD.  The instruction tutorial said to go to the "Share" menu and select "iDVD", however there is no "iDVD" listed in that memu.  I checked to see that my DVD+R was writeable in my SuperDrive--it is?  Why doesn't "idvd" show in the "share" menu?  Please help, thank you.  Fustrated Mark.

I may have found a way around this issue. I have the old style mouse with a wired usb connection. I've learned from other discussions that by holding down the 'Control' key and pressing the mouse button on an Apple a menu similar to the right-click menu of a PC will appear. When I tried this from the 'Project Library' on iMovie on my iMAC, a menu appears that DOES contain the export to iDVD choice. This choice is still not visible from the 'Share' menu in the menubar. This appears to be some glitch in the Apple software, but my computer is currently formulating the iMovie into the iDVD format. I have my fingers crossed.
