HELP - MB to HDMI TV

So I got rid of cable, and was just looking to use my macbook to play tv shows and movies through my TV.
I bought Mini-DVI -> DVI, and DVI -> HDMI cables, hooked them up, but on my television screen the only thing that shows up is my desktop image, and nothing else. Would I be better off goin the VGA route?
I'm running OSX 10.4.11, on Intel Core 2 Duo.

Sounds like your computer is using "Extended desktop" mode. Check in System Preferences>Displays for the option to change that. You're looking for "Mirrored mode."

How do I view my internet on my MacBookPro on my large screen Panasonic TV. I have done it with Cox in San Diego but have relocated to Iowa and have a non internet TV. I connected my laptop to Direct TV (using a wify tower and cable 100 foot in electrical PVC to Direct TV Box. In SanDiego I just connect HDMI to my Sony Bravia and have both internet and ability to set up Netflix. I am trying to accomlish watch Netflix on my computer by mirroring it to Panasonic screen/ The tv has only one extra HDMI input. That is where I connected my video from my laptop with the miniAdapter.  I thought I should set up mirroring like I did in the old days with my g4 laptop when I connected to TV with an s connector and 20 foot cable. This is connected but error message that Direct TV is not programmed to video 2.  I guess there is no way to choose HDMI. It asks me to program  a vcr, DVD, or other service like Netflix . I would appreciate any help . I have been without internet for three weeks. Uggggh. So now am trying to set up computer with two screens. the second being my big screen tv.  Would like to share emails, photos etc with 90 year old mother who could see print enlarged on bigger screen.

First of all you have to connect both devices (notebook and TV) with an HDMI cable.
Then power on the TV and the notebook.
In the TV settings choose the HDMI input port where the notebook has been connected.
Now you can use the function key F4 (or Fn + F4) in order to switch to the external video output which in your case should be the TV device.

  • Need Help with U330 HDMI to an HDTV with no sound.

anyone please help me with my new u330, when i connect an hdtv picture is fine but i have no sound, i did follow the manual switch to the ati chip then set hdmi as default but still have no sound.

    Hi,
I had this same issue.  I can't say for sure what I did to solve it, but I did eventually get the sound working.  Make sure you change your sound profile to the HDMI output.  I did this originally and wasn't able to get sound out of my TV; sound still came out the onboard speakers.  After several tries and some fiddling it all the sudden started coming out of the TV speakers.
Click on the speaker icon in the taskbar (the Vista icon not the Lenovo icon) and hit mixer.  Hit the Device drop down menu and choose HDMI output (note that this option only appears when the ATI card is enabled).  Also in the sounds menu under Control Panel you can adjust the levels and test the output.  When I first tried this hitting "Test" would make the test sound come out of the TV speakers, but playing a video the sound still came out the PC speakers.  Then suddenly it magically started working.  Perhaps it just needs a bit of time to switch the output device similar to the wait for the graphics to switch between integrated and discreet.  Hope this helps you out.

  • I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.

I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.
To do this I will need a 2x1 HDMI splitter or a 2x1 HDMI auto switch (preferred).
?Is there any Apple TV HDMI port voltage?
When using a HDMI auto switch to connect two devices to a HDMI TV, the
Auto switch cable box only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.
Do you know of any other solutions? Componets? Actual expierances?
    Full text below.
Cable : HDMI switches expand the number of available HDMI ports on a high definition television allowing connection of cable boxes, Blu-ray players, and game consoles. A side benefit is that cable clutter is also eliminated by running a single HDMI cable to your HDTV from a switch and relocating the HDMI ports to a concealed location. The problem with most HDMI switches is that you have to either get up to push a button, or hunt for the remote control, to switch sources. The true mark of any great switching component is an ability to perform its function and remain transparent in its operation. This automatic HDMI switch is a plug-and-play away from offering everything you are looking for in an HDMI switch. Select a single output from up to three devices for signal delivery to your HDTV. Smart operation provides complete control for connect-and-forget operation. Powering on a device gives it output priority over the other devices. By powering down the device in use, output priority is returned to the last powered on device. Note: Auto switch function only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.

    Hi Erico,
I tried what you said again but without success. I even updated the driver so that that audio driver is the same as the graphics driver i.e.. NVIDIA but this has not helped either:

  • Display problem when connecting laptop to TV via HDMI

I have a Satellite L500-19X and when I connect the laptop to my Sony Bravia TV, the display is constantly choppy.
I've tried changing the refresh rate but that hasn't helped. The HDMI cable shouldn't be the problem because it works fine with my Xbox. The problem is there during both duplicate display and extend display options.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem and have found a fix?
    Thanks

    Hello sohagshahin,
It appears that your HDMI port is not working on the notebook. I will try to assist with this.
Have you verified that the port indeed does not work by trying other tv's or monitors? (try one of each if possible).
Have you tried other HDMI cables?

    Hi there @ankur3110
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I gather that you are having trouble with sound using your HDMI connection. It is most likely due to a setting for the default sound output device. You can check out these pages that walk through some of the settings, and see if it helps.

  • HT4241 Hdmi flickering issues.

My HDMI adaptor is constantly flickering! Please help! My hdmi adaptor used to work fine, I have tried different adaptors, different displays different hdmi cables with no luck, my brothers macbook still works fine! please help thanks. I have searched for a firmware update but Im not good at navigating around this site. dont seem to be having any luck!

    Welcome to the forum.
I've got one question, regarding this statement,
But when the edited file is exported and viewd on TV screen, I notice flickering issues when we have fast movement camera or people.
How are you displaying the AV on the TV? Are you going to a DVD/BD, or is the TV hooked up to the computer?
There might be some Interlacing issues, and some improvement might be possible, but like John T. states, MPEG is not an ideal source to begin with, due to the heavy compression. If you then go to DVD, you are compressing yet again, and what you see is an artifact of the multiple compression used.
Good luck, and let us know more details about your display/delivery.

  • No audio from hdmi output from graphics card

hello, i have a ms-7191 motherboard that has on board graphics, i installed a visiontec ATI 4350 card so i can output the a/v to my vizio 46" TV using one of the hdmi ports. , the video works but no audio. tried to update the drivers from msi-no help, tried to update the graphics card drivers from visiontec (added the hd audio driver)-no help. tried updating the realtek driver-no help. tried swapping hdmi ports on the TV-no help. i know that i'm  not the first to not be able to do this and i have searched for the answer, but i out of ideas, is it possible the problem is that it has a onboard graphics on the board? what should i do now?
    Joel

This board came with a spidif bracket-installed into the pci e connector, maybe i am missing something here, is it that is there is no audio connector to the graphics card, so there will be no sound from the hdmi connector? if so how does one get a card to work with the hdmi for both A/V? i thought this card will be able to access the needed info, maybe not then, and if that is the case, then, i don't understand why we have graphics cards with the hdmi interface if it is not useable. i should be able to get by just fine with a dvi out to the tv and add a audio out ( but this tv doesn't have a dvi port ,just the vga-crap. well i do have the s video port-it ani't all that either,,please shed more guys...

  • No HDMI Audio Output for DV6-6100

My HDMI sound output worked fine until a few weeks ago when it stopped working. The picture will show up on my TV but the sound will play through the laptop speakers. After looking through forums, I checked both my device manager and the sound page under the control panel and tried to make sure it was not something simple. My computer is the HP DV6-6100 which is the quad edition. I run Windows 7 Home Premium. Thanks!

  • HDMI  Out @ Optical Out at the same time?

I need to install an ATV 2 in my old home theater system.  The reciver does not accept HDMI inputs but does accept optical inputs.  Can I run HDMI to the TV and use the optical out port on the ATV 2 to direct the audio to the receiver for decoding and presentation?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes indeed that's how many of us do it. It also helps eliminate potential HDMI issues by connecting the Apple TV and TV by HDMI directly.

  • Yoga 2 Pro don't work with external monitor (picture attached)

I'm trying to connect my Y2P to my Dell 2407wfpp, 24" 1920x1200, (http://www.dell.com/downloads/emea/products/snp/2407wfp_monitor.pdf) and everything turns to a green-blue colour..
I'm connecting using a Mini HDMI to HDMI cable + a HDMI to DVI adapter.
In terms of troubleshooting I've done the following:
I've tried connecting the laptop using just the Mini HDMI to HDMI cable to two other screens (Samsung TV's and they both worked) So it seems that the cable works fine, and the laptop is capable of connecting and displaying on a second screen.
I've also tried connecting a different laptop (Dell Vostro 3500) vith a normal HDMI cable + the same HDMI to DVI adapter and this to works fine, so it seems that the HDMI to DVI adapter works fine (and so does the Dell screen)
What could be causing this? coud it just be the combination of the mini HDMI to HDMI cable and the HDMI to DVI adapter that's causing the issue? Or coudl this be a driver issue that causes this particular Dell screen not to work?
Really appreciate some help with this!
    (see below for image)

Your photos show the issue very well - They clearly "forgot" to leave a cutout in the left edge rubber bumper to allow the MicroHDMI to be inserted fully.
I guess one solution is to start cutting into the left edge side and make a cut out.  Not sure that would do our warranties any good!
Lenovo this is an easy fix for you to do !!
Until then, I have these two cable that seem to work well enough -- not perfect but usable.  There's the Cable Matters micro-HDMI to VGA adapter, I cited before.  Using it now.  Zero stability / disconnection problems.

The good thing about these is that they are CHEAP - $4-5 each.  So buy two and take a craft knife to one and "carve" away at the Micro-HDMI plug's rubber surround until it fits really snugly into the Yoga's recessed socket
This Monoprice adapter works for me and seems pretty stable without any "carving".  Lots of happy reviews on Amazon and Monoprice from Surface and tablet and phone owners using this successfully.  Nice to be able to use standard size HDMI cables with this.
The product description says "Very snug fit which will help to prevent HDMI connection problems of having cables come loose" -- which suggests to me they put some thought into this little guy and maybe why it works better than some of the others.
My guess is that other similar Monoprice cables would be a good brand to try (and cheap)

  • How to connect a MacBook to external monitor

I have a MacBook that I am trying to hook up a external monitor to.  I have a HDMI cable that goes from the monitor to a adaptor that goes to the mini display port and the USB port.  I have tried with and without the USB cord.  I have tried messing with the display preferences and nothing works.  I have hooked my MacBook up to my HD TV before using the same adaptor and it woks just fine.  Can someone please help me?

HDMI is kind of a flakey technology as there are several different standards. Thats why Applle never adapted it. I'd look at using a mini display to DVI adapter instead.
