Help, MBP 2,2 won't turn into Standby after upgrade to 10.7.2

Recently I've upgraded from 10.7.1 to 10.7.2 via the Software-update utility, however now my MBP model 2,2 won't turn into standby mode when it is connected to the power adapter. Not when I close the lid, or when I select Standby via Apple -> Standby.
On the other hand, when my MBP is running on battery there is no problem with going into Standby mode, so I thing it has something to do with the settings that are suddenly changed...
Does anyone now if the settings have changed somehow? Or where I can change the settings?
Thanks in advance!

Hello Bastiaan,
The first two days after installation of 10.7.2 and the Aperture update my laptop also refused to go to sleep, but that behaviour stopped recently all by its own. When I looked at the Activity monitor I saw the mac was indexing spotlight and rebuilding libraries, so probably it did not want to go to sleep while there still was critical work to be done to migrate properly to iCloud.
I do not know of any other preference settings that might prevent sleep.
So perhaps you should look at the Activity Monitor, if some high priority process is running, that might prevent sleep.
If closing the lid does not work, that might be a hardware problem, but it seems to be unlikely, since it works when on battery power. Does your computer go to sleep when on power adapter, if you set the computer sleep interval to a very short time?

Léonie

My iPhone4 won't turn on even after being charged for 1 hour and when I plug it into my computer nothing happens. PLEASE HELP

I have a similar (if not the exact same) problem! Here are some more details if they are helpful.
My iPhone 4 died earlier today and will not turn back on. It seemed that the battery died while it was not in use. I attempted to charge it on one charging cord in multiple wall outlets and none worked. Assuming it was a malfunction in the cord, I took my phone home to try charging it there.
Again, I attempted charging it in multiple outlets with a different cord than previously used. None of these seemed to work, though they would flash the Connect to Power screen for a brief moment before returning to a black screen. I assumed that my phone was simply so depleted of battery that it needed a long charge.
I charged it for 30+ minutes without any success, then attempted to charge it through my MacBook instead of through a wall outlet. iTunes did not even recognize that my phone plugged in (and still hasn't). I've attempted charging it for an extended period of time (1+ hour) with no luck. Sometimes when I press the Power button it will flash the Connect to Power screen once more before returning to black.
The Apple logo never appears, nor does any apparent progress on charging. I have attempted holding down the Power and Home buttons simultaneously for 10 - 30 second increments. Still no luck. There is no reason anything should be happening with this phone that I can identify.
I have no warranty and just recently replaced my previous phone which had had similar problems before completely crashing. This is a phone new to me that was previously used but in almost new conditions and factory reset by Apple prior to my purchase.
Does this mean that my phone battery is dead?
Is there anything else I can do??

  • IPOD WON'T TURN ON EVEN AFTER TRYING TO RESET IT

PLS. HELP! MY IPOD WITH VIDEO WON'T TURN ON EVEN AFTER TRYING TO RESET IT. THE BATTERY IS FULL. IT WILL JUST TURN ON AFTER 24HRS. WHEN THE BATTERY IS DRAINED EVEN WITHOUT USING IT BECAUSE IT IS IN FROZEN STATE. FOR INSTANCE AFTER DISCONNECTING FROM THE COMPUTER SAFELY AFTER CHARGING IT I KEPT IT OPEN BUT WHEN IT TURNED OFF AUTOMATICALLY IT WILL NOT TURN ON.

Ok well, if you do not have the Ipod starter disk, you can’t do very much to save it anymore. It is completely gone.
At this point I would recommend you calling Apple and setting up a repair. I would suggest you buy their warrantee plan, ($50 and good from 2 years) and it starts as soon as you buy the plan, NOT when you got your Ipod. The reason I would suggest that is, because if they deny your problem (like they did to me 5 time before finally replacing mine) it will save you a LOT of money. There may also be further issues as well with your Ipod.
    Apples SoS number is:
    1-800-767-2775
    Open 6am-6pm EST.
They might even have a few ideas on how to fix it as well!
As for “Viruses” I would highly doubt it. Viruses are programs designed to destroy certain parts of computer. Such as, a virus that destroys windows computer, does not do anything to Mac computer. It does not have the same components. The same thing goes for Ipod, PSP, etc. Files my contain viruses in them, but it would not effect the product in most cases. Only if you transfer the file on it to another computer, could it do anything.
Your problem is, most likely your ipod just broke. Or should I say, just stopped working. Ipod’s are notorious at doing such things. Apple will take care of it. BUT GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY! That is the only way to make sure they fix it. It is cheaper than buying a $350-$400 new 60 gig Video.
Good luck my friend, God Life

  • Satellite 1800-314: When I close the lid it won't go into standby

    Hope someone can help.
I recently had my Satellite 1800-314 (Windows XP)re-formatted, and now when I close the lid it won't go into standby.... the power light flashes amber, when I open the lid again, Windows shuts down and then restarts. I have tried installing Toshiba power settings, setting "when I close the lid, standby", to no avail.
Have then uninstalled Toshiba power settings and set ordinary power settings in Control Panel to "standby", etc, but it STILL won't go back to standby.
    I'm frazzled now.
Is there a simple solution that I'm missing?
Grateful in advance for any help!

    Hi
You should know that it is very important to install the drivers in the right order.
The installation of common modules at the beginning is important because some Tosh drivers need this application for properly working.
If the power saver was installed on the OS the windows power settings will not work.
The Toshiba settings overwrite the Microsoft settings.
Furthermore please check your preinstalled BIOS. Compare the version with the BIOS on the page. If your unit uses the older version so try to upgrade it.
But be careful. You have to use the right BIOS and the right upgrades procedure.

  • Satellite P10 automatically goes into Standby after 15 minutes

My Satellite P10 automatically goes into Standby after 15 minutes. This is a setting that is controlled by the Toshiba Power Management settings, or the Toshiba Console.
When I change the settings there the system still goes into Standby after 15 minutes. When I go to Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/Power Options, it tells me to go to the Toshiba Power Management to change the settings, but I can still see the settings in grey stating 15 minutes standby time.
But in the Toshiba Power Management I can't seem to be able to ajust Standby settings so that they actually work. There must be a trick to it..
Can anyone help me figure it out?
    Thanks a lot,
    Lerak

Thank you for your replies. As I now understand it there are 3 power management utilities fighting for control of the power management settings:
    1) The windows OS power options("Power Option Properties, from the control panel/performance and maintenance/power options);
    this utility is overridden by:
    2) Toshiba Power management;
    and
    3) the "power save modes", activated by pressing the Function key and the F2 key, which in turn can override the Toshiba Power management.
If this last Function/F2 combination is used to change the power save modes, the windows OS power settings (which are shown in grey and cannot be changed because this is overridden by the Toshiba Power management) DO actually change.
Hold down the Function key (Fn) and press F2, holding down the Fn key. Each time you then press the F2 key again you scroll down the different "Power Schemes". The last mode is called: Toshiba Power Management. One would think that by choosing this setting the Toshiba Power management utility would effectively take over control of the power settings. Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case..
At least using this last option provides a workaround. Some of the "Power Schemes" disable the standby options.

  • HELP!!  IPOD WON'T TURN OFF

No matter what I do. It's stuck! It won't turn off. Right now it's unplugged from the computer & won't turn off. The battery will run down completely now.
I also had trouble with my computer recognizing the iPod after I installed the iTunes & software & imported a CD into iTunes library.
    HELP!!

you might try putting it to sleep. go to the main menu and choose settings, and then look around there for "sleep" it doesn't shou up on the main menu by default. select sleep and turn it from "off" to "on" then go back to the main menu and select sleep (press center button) and it should turn off.

  • [Help]iPhone 5s screen won't turn on / won't play sounds

    Hello, my name is Bryan.
I've got a problem with my iPhone 5s. I opened my iPhone to fix an issue with the home button (Watched a guide on youtube on how to achieve this), and I connected everything as it is supposed to go, my home button is working but now my screen won't turn on or the phone won't play any sounds. I know the phone it's on because I can connect it to the computer and the computer recognizes it. Also, I tried calling it, and it rings on the phone I am calling from, but my iPhone simply won't play any sounds...
I am also sure the phone is not in DFU mode.
    Any help?
    Thanks in advance,
    - Bryan

It won't even vibrate or do anything, but it's on.

  • Help! iPhone 4 won't turn on!

My iPhone 4 won't turn on, all I did was hold down the home and sleep/wake button and let go of sleep/wake button but still hold home button and then tried turning it back on and it wouldn't turn on! Help! Need my phone back!

You need to hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release them both.

  • HT1349 i pad won't turn on even after plugging into computer?

I pad will not turn on even after plugging into computer and into wall. Any suggestions?

Have you tried a soft-reset to see if that gets it to boot up ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo will hopefully appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Help! Ipod nano won't turn on after disconnecting!

Okay I've had my Ipod nano for like 3 weeks. I've used it once. It worked fine when I first got it and after my battery ran out I haven't used it for about a week. When I got it back I hooked it up to my computer and updated the stuff on it as well as let it charge. After is says to safely disconnect, I disconnect it but it automatically turns off and won't turn back on. I've tried resetting it and nothing works. I thought the battery was dead but I've left it plugged in (not only USB on my computer but also tried an outlet) and it never completely charged. I've even left it plugged in overnight (well over the 4 hours it's supposed to charge). I have no idea what to do (It also took like at least a full day to completely charge the first time I've had it)

Okay my iPod wouldn't turn on . (Guess I will be throwing out the box to ship my ipod for warranty replacement)
at like 11pm dec 1 2008, the ipod was dead, pressing the power button did nothing.
I thought it was a goner... I even ordered a warranty replacement..
ipod wouldnt turn on . left it for 24 hours. when I got home from school the next day
it tried to sync but my playlist did not exist..it even showed the folder in windows
After trying various USB ports and seeing an Apple Icon, and "connect to power low battery"
I even requested a warranty replacement... and apparently you throw out the box they send to cancel. I wish I could be courteous and let them know
    So in short
    PROBLEM;
==IPOD Won't Power on when you press the power button==
(FIRST OF ALL , I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO NOT TRY TO OPEN THE IPOD UP,
you will probably scratch or damage the beautiful iPod .. when it will be perfectly fine 24 hours later...)
    Try:
RESET, and plug in to itunes and restore..
    SOLUTION:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/consumerelectronics/ipodfaq/ipod-troubleshooting-wont-turn-on-appear-hung-sad.html
    Official Apple Documentation:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1383?viewlocale=en_US
I guess my actual story will make you believe that THIS SOLUTION actually works.
    "Let the iPod battery drain
In rare cases, iPod might get into a state in which it needs to be drained completely before it can be reset. If iPod didn't turn on after you reset it, follow these steps:
    1. Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.
    2. Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or computer and reset it.
I even tried the iPod on 2 computers and it was sort of detecting the serial # in Windows
    but mostly freezing up windows.
    4. " Let iPod's battery drain"
Was the solution for my iPod 3rd generation.
So now that the problem was fixed, I guess iPod is so terrible after all
Just don't drop your iPod get it a nice case
it took from 9pm December 2,2008 to about Dcember 2,2008 6:45pm
roughly 20 hours.. so this morning when I left I pressed the button and it wouldn't turn on
I thought maybe the battery was knocked loose but the battery was just so low or something
To prevent this problem I guess whenever you ipod is low battery, charge it before it gets dangerously low
As sad as it is to wait like 24 hours without your iPod just to pray that the problem is the battery or something and then it will power on..
When it actually does power on you would see the apple Icon
== When it was all said and done==
I didn't really need to use "restore" option, i think itunes resynced what it needed.
And thanks to this I upgraded to Itunes 8 .. which I was too lazy to do before
    ==STILL DOESNT WORK?==
If you bought it less than a year ago... Warranty..
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
Enter your Serial# and country and it will be located at the back of your iPod under where it says 8GB or whatever (at least for iPod Nano 3rd generation)
I always like posting solutions, so that someone like me can benefit from it.
It is my understanding that if you do send in your iPod they don't care about the USB cord or headphones that came with it, so you just ship the iPod itself

  • Macbook Pro suddenly shuts off. screen goes black and won't turn off till after a few hours.

    Hi everyone!
So I've had this problem from my macbook since months ago. It sometimes just shuts off by itself, the screen turning black and won't turn on until like after a few hours (sometimes a day, but sometimes you could also immediately open it just like that.)
When it shuts off and you plug the adapter it is still charging, the lights on the side of the macbook book still lights up just fine if you press the button on the side. the only problem is that it wont open until after a few minutes, hours or days (very unpredictable) (also tapping the macbook helps, I dont know if it "really" helps or not, but it works sometimes.) But when it open it will be working fine until another couple of weeks or 3 or a month (again unpredictable)
I dont know what's wrong with my laptop, please help me. It would be greatly appreciated! thank you so much in advance!

Hold the power button down for 10+ seconds.  Then bring the MBP to an Apple store for an evaluation.
    Ciao.

  • IPad Air won't turn on even after fully charging overnight and won't reset using the power and home button.

I have tried charging the ipad over night and no matter what I do it won't turn on. I did try plugging it into my computer and itunes recognized it once, but I wasn't able to restore it. Please help. It's only 3 months past warranty.

If you have owned the device, as in purchased from Apple, less than a year then there will be no charge to repair, or most likely, replace the device. If you have had the device more than a year you will be charged an out of warranty cost for replacement ($219 I think) and that is much cheaper than a new device. If you have Applecare+ then you have an additional year of coverage and the replacement will be $49 or $79 depending on when you got the Applecare.

  • All programs turned into itunes after download

I recently downloaded Itunes 10.5 onto my HP laptop running windows 7. After the download was complete, all of my icons turned into itunes. Example: when I clicked on skype, Itunes opened. I uninstalled Itunes and restarted my laptop and everything was back to normal. How can I download Itunes without it messing up my laptop again?

    Fingers crossed.
If possible, set up a system restore point first. Then try applying the .lnk registry patch from the following document:
File Association Fixes for Windows 7
Does that get your icons back to normal?

  • IPod Touch won't turn on even after home + sleep button fixes

My six-month-old ipod touch (2nd gen, 8G, not jailbroke, not water-damaged) won't turn on. No response at all, just black screen. The computer doesn't notice it's been plugged in. I've tried the following recommended fixes:
*plugging it in for several hours in case it's just a dead battery.
*holding down the home button (for at least 60 seconds), with and without it being plugged in to the computer
*holding down the home button and the sleep button (for at least 60 seconds) with and without it being plugged in
*holding down home (or home + sleep) and then connecting it to the computer while holding the button(s) down
Is there anything else I can try before I brave the rush of post-holiday shoppers and head out for the Mac store?

    Try the remaining mitems here.
