Help me before I turn to Adobe Premiere Pro and PC!

I am desperately trying to import HVD footage from a Sony HVR-A1 in OfflineRT mode. I have a pretty slow Mac which does not allow me to work with native HDV or Apple intermediate codec and I WILL HAVE TO turn to PC if I do not find a quick solution… Argh…
I have tried the following :
1. OfflineRT HD esay setup specifying HDV as Capture setup and Sony HDV 1081i50 Firewire.
- It has worked once and not more after that
- The sequence is in JPG compressed mode but clips are all captured in full HDV, which makes it impossible to edit in RT… I have no idea of what is going on…
2. Offline RT (DV)
- Using i-link downconvert mode to capture in OfflineRT mode
- Everything seems OK until I finally try to batch capture in HDV. I then systematically get error messages and only a small part of the clips are captured.
3. HDV capture and transfer to OfflineRT HD via Media Manager (recompress)
- Everything works fine (capture, recompress and batch capture).
- BUT: it seems that recompress with OfflineRT HD suppose that the original is letterbox so that when the original (as mine) is 16:9, the compressed output is strongly distorted.
- I tried to use custom recompress procedures but they all seem to produce outputs which cannot be edited in RT…
It has been two weeks now and I did not start editing yet… What should I do? Turn to PC and Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0?

Welcome to the forum Jean-Claude.
If you will provide your system specs, I'll bet that
someone here will get you running smoothly and
happily.
Sorry for that...
My spec are:
FCP5
Mac OSX
2 HD (one external via firewire)
G4 on PowerBook with 512M RAM
I am capturing directly via Firewire from a Sony HVR-A1 PAL
My main concern however is that my problem does not seem to come from hardware spec since I have no real problem in capturing in native HDV (although my computer is too slow to edit in native HDV or in Apple intermediate Codec). It seemed to me that OfflineRT HD was just the way it should work for me (I can find a proper computer to fine-tune the final work) but I have found nowhere successful reports of using this option...
EDIT, just came across your other post... "Offline
editing with FCP5 OfflineRT HD"...should try to keep
only one thread active... keeps everyone from getting
confused...
Sorry for that too... I am going to close the other one right now...

  • Help with Adobe Premiere Pro and AME CS6

    Hi all,
First off, i would like to state that i'm pretty inexperienced in video editing, so please keep that in mind when answering or questioning something.I will try to explain my question to the best of my abilities, but please answer in a 'simple' manner, and don't shoot me when i miss something obvious.
I came across a 'performance?'-issue (slow exporting) for which i don't really know how to find the solution. I've been struggling with it for a while.
Your (any) help or insight is greatly appreciated!
    My system:
    Windows 7 Professional - 64 bit (Service Pack 1)
    RAM 20 GB
Intel Core I73770 (dual quad core)
    Direct x 11.0
    Nvidia NVS 310
Adobe premiere pro CS6 (upgrading to adobe CC is unfortunately not an option)
    Adobe media encoder CS6
They asked me to edit some video's on a regular basis, nothing complicated, just a 'training'-video. Length of video is about 2 hours edited.
    File info:
    Source file is 1920x1080 (1,0), 25fps, Upper, 2:11:10:24, 48000Hz, Stereo
There is one audio channel (left is standard mic, right is a shotgun mic) which is split to two audio channels, edited in aodbe audition (basic noise reduction)
I've been running into export times of over 12 hours (exported to mp4), which i'm guessing is a bit much.. . The slowness is also occuring with other export settings.
I came across a possible solution (in short: changing the Video Rendering and Playback in the project settings of APP) but that field is inactive for me...? what's up?
"Use Preview Files" works in CS5.5 but is "Useless" in CS6
I don't really know what to do from here, to figure out the solution. Any suggestions on fixing or troubleshooting the extremely long export times??
    Thx in advance.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects CS5.5 Lagging Horribly with Dynamic Link

I just bought a brand new computer. It is a beast
    Windows 7 64-bit
Intel i7-980 6 cores with HT = 12 CPU cores
    Nvidia GTX 570HD 1280mb 328 bit
    120gb SSD sata 3
    600 gb Velociraptor drive 10000rpm
    8gb DDR3 1866MHZ ram
So you would think I would get no lag. But for some reason, when I edit in premier pro or after effects, especially when I use dynamic link with premiere and after effects. It lags realllllly badly. I am talking about 5fps and I have to pause and wait like 20 secs then hit play again to get 5 secs of smoothness and then the laggyness returns. I am not even using heavy footage. It is footage off of a Canon 5D Mark II h.264. I tried messing around with all the settings but I cannot get anywhere. Anyone know what the problem might be? I don't have any other programs running since I just installed these. This lag is really holding me back and I cannot edit properly because of it.

Your memory is ill configured, since you are using it in dual channel mode instead of triple channel mode and 8 MB is about bare minimum. You would be better off if you were to increase memory to 24 GB. Secondly, your disk configuration is the absolute minimum requirement, so adding a couple of disks will help performance as well.
I am not even using heavy footage. It is footage off of a Canon 5D Mark II h.264
Mistake. It is one of the most demanding codecs on the market. Look here: Adobe Forums: System requirements for CS5
You could try the PPBM5 Benchmark to see how well your setup performs.

  • Still jpg photos are blurry in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4

    Hi everyone,
Please help!  I am somewhat new to Adobe Premiere Pro and have been pretty much self-taught.  I recently put together a wedding video for a friend and added in some still images.  For the life of me, I cannot figure out why when I export the video, the images come up blurry.  I've tried everything--deinterlace, do a frame hold on each of the pictures (on the in point), etc.  I would really appreciate any advice about this--maybe I'm missing something obvious?  I've attached a screen shot of what a typical image looks like once I've exported the video.  Thanks in advance!
    -E

    Hi -E,
From your last post, it sounds like you have a solution with the different output selection, but if you are still curious, I'm confused by your quoted settings.
<<Export Settings: Video Codec is set to Animation, 29.97 fps, NO optimize stills, 720 x 477 (same as video input size)
Video Footage: Sony Camera, MiniDV tapes, Widescreen SD>>
MiniDV tapes implies that your video is in SD format, 720x480 (which is sort of implied in your Export settings).
Widescreen SD implies that you are aiming to get the output to SD in a 16:9 format, 854x480
Your posted photos look stretched and if you are happy with the video, then I suggest that CS4 is converting the video to Widescreen without distortion and stretching your photos to Widescreen without converting them (i.e. keeping the same number of pixels and just stretching them to the new size).  If you want to try another experiment, either crop or convert your photos before importing them to CS4 so that they are  854x480 and then just produce your video the way that you were doing when your troubles started.
I had HDV video, which comes in at 1440x1080.  To add photos, I cropped my hi res photos to 3840x2160 ( i.e. 2 times 1920x1080), resized the result 50% to 1920x1080 and then imported them.  In Encore I requested SD output (720x480) and the result was undistorted.  So CS4 was happy to rescale the video differently to the stills.  This experience is why I suggest using Widescreen aspect ratio for the photos.   Like you I am self taught and for myself, not good at absorbing the info in the manuals.  Another video software suite I used to use would also exibit Pixel Aspect Ratio problems.  If you took a frame of video and exported it as a still, then reimported it, the result would be blurry.  It turned out that sure enough, it would export the picture as a crisp 720x480 image, and because of the pixel aspect ratio of standard DV being 0.9091, it needed 720x534 for stills being imported. If I took the ouput stretched it to 534 and re-inserted it, you could not distinguish the video from the still.  A royal pain at the time.
Anyway enough rambling.  Worth a try if your new found si=olution gets you  out of a jam but you aren't yet trully happy.
    Cheers, Ian

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Cs6 Will Not Open

    I have an issue.
Essentially I began installing Adobe Premiere Pro, and it installed halfway before concluding it had allegedly finished installing all the updates.
This is not true as I cannot click the application in Creative Cloud, and my arrow remains as the standard cursor.
This is the second time this has happened, as I was forced to reinstall Creative Cloud and all of my Applications.
I thought a clean install would have helped the situation but it seems to have made no difference, there is no way to open this application, it merely says that it has been installed though is completely unusable.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Automatically Crops Source Video Upon Import

This is really confusing me and I've never had this kind of trouble before.  I have source videos that are 720x480, but as soon as I import them into Premiere, they are cropped to 540x480.  It's not a problem with sequence settings or anything, because the imported source file is cropped before it's even in a sequence.  I tried looking on-line for a solution, but couldn't find any.  Does anyone know how this can be fixed...maybe some import settings that I don't know about?
Here are some screenshots to visually represent what I was saying:
This is properties of the video
This is what Premiere automatically does right after the video is imported as a source
This is a screenshot when played with VLC:
This is a screenshot when played from the source in Premiere:
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.  This video is due Saturday and all my footage is cropped, please help me.  Thank you!

    11.  Re: Adobe Premiere Pro AND Adobe Premiere Elements 13 Automatically Crops Source Video Upon Import
My AP Elements (version 13) has exactly the same bug. I have a DVD where 25% of every VOB file's images' right border has been cut away during the inserting phase into Elements. No adjusting of frame and pixel aspect ratios, black borders narrow or wide, project settings automatic or manual do not help. Gone is gone. But the same VOB files play normally (100% image) in many other players/editors. I have experimented with VLC and Wondershare Video Converter.
On the other hand Elements is able to read correctly other DVD's VOB files. See discussion about this very same bug in Elements thread.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 Trial Version  - Error when importing mts and mp4 video files

First time using Adobe Premiere Pro (and I'm using the trial version).  When I try to import an mts video file (and tried to import an mp4 file as well), I get the error: Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 has stopped working.  And then the program crashes. Please help.
    My computer specs: Windows 7 with Service Pack 1,Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570 CPU @ 3.2GHz, RAM: 4.00 GB, System type: 64-bit

    Hi Catherine,
    Welcome to the Adobe forums.
Please try the steps mentioned below and check if it works for you.
    1. Launch Premiere Pro and create a Project, go to File menu>Project Settings>Renderer and change the Renderer to Software only mode, delete previews if you get a prompt and then try to import the clip.
    2. If step 1 fails or the Renderer is already on Software only mode, go to Start Menu and search for Device Manager, go into Display Adapters and Right click on the Graphics card to select Update driver software option, on the next screen choose "Browse my computer for driver software", then choose "Let me Pick from a list..." option and from the list select "Standard VGA Graphics adapters. You might need to change the screen resolution of your screen and once done restart the machine again.
Launch Premiere Pro and import the clip to check.

    Vinay

  • I Cannot Figure this out!  How Do I Lock a Track In Adobe Premiere Pro?

    Hi everyone!
I'm from the Final Cut Pro world, getting acclimated to Adobe Premiere Pro and am wondering how do I lock a track on the timeline?  The audio and video are synced which is what I want, it's just one thing I want to change within the audio.  However, when I select and delete this one portion of the audio, it deletes the video as well.  This seems over complicated to perform.  Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks!

  • 'This project was saved in a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro' but the project came from the exact same version??

    Hey there,
I have two computers running the exact same version of Premiere (CC 2014) and both are currently updated.
I saved the project onto the server using one computer, then when I try to open it on the other comp I get this message:
'This project was saved in a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro and cannot be opened in this version.'
Both comps are logged into the same creative cloud account and both work fine individually...
Does anyone out there have a fix for this??
    Help would be much appreciated!!
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Premiere Pro System Requirements

    Good morning,
For the online Adobe Premiere Pro System Requirements:
The Windows "Adobe Premiere Pro CC (2014) system requirements" are listed as "Microsoft Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (64 bit) or Windows 8 (64 bit)" and the Windows "Adobe Premiere Pro CC system requirements" are listed as "Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1". (Bolded emphasis added.) (Reviewed at System requirements | Adobe Premiere Pro on 12/28/2014.)
Assuming that all Windows requirements are to be "(64 bit)" for both Adobe Premiere Pro CC and CC (2014), then why is "Windows 8.1", that is a requirement for Adobe Premiere Pro CC, excluded from the requirements for Adobe Premiere Pro CC (2014), which is the latest version of Premiere Pro?
My point is:  in a RAID'ed solid-state disk (SSD) structure, some of the workflow for maintaining a work station is different between Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Unless this omission is an editorial inconsistency, not having Windows 8.1 as a system requirement for Adobe Premiere Pro CC (2014) implies that Windows 7 is the better option for supporting Adobe Premiere Pro and for helping to maintain the hardware implementing it.
For the supporting the best SSD RAID workflow for Adobe Premiere Pro, please let me know if, indeed, that not including Windows 8.1 in the system requirements for Adobe Premiere Pro CC (2014) is an oversight.
    Thank you.

    An oversight? Yes probably.
Adobe's "System Requirements" page for Adobe Premiere Pro has been a joke for a long time so far as helping the user is concerned. Check out www.ppbm7.com if you really want to learn the true system requirements to use Adobe's software.
The current Premiere Pro CC (2014) system requirements list includes:
    - Intel Core2 Duo... - wow, really, this is the requirement for 2014! Seems to me this would not support present day media and workflows very well at all.
    - "... or faster hard drive" (no mention whatsoever about SSDs). I have a system with SSDs (no hard drives) and it runs Premiere Pro just fine with no hard drives at all.
    - Internet connection and registration... Yes, it does seem that Adobe keeps the legal and other "fine print" portions of the system requirements page up to date.
Regarding Win 8.1, I've had some issues with installing some legacy software that I've used for years (and which run using Win 7 64-bit), however all the Adobe CC (2014) applications that I've tried seem to work just fine on my system (with Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit).
    Regards,
    Jim

  • GUI Slow in 8.0.1 and 8.1 because of orphaned Adobe Premiere Pro Processes

Has anyone seen the GUI in 8.0.1 or 8.1 get very slow and noticed that they had orphaned PR processes?
We've never had performance issues on our Windows 7 Pro, latest SP and updates, i7 920, 48 GB, Nvidia GTX 480 and LSI 9286cv-8e. I have the latest Pluraleyes and Neat Video plugin's. The sequence contains DV, Canon MXF and 5d Mark III files and we've been working on it for months. We added new MXF and mov clips last week and have been copying them into the sequence from a Pluraleyes synced one. The sequence is DV NTSC, 29.97. I've worked with Adobe support, Case: 186016889, for 7 hours over the last few days after we first experienced the slowdown and I had upgraded to 8.1 thinking it would fix the problem ( I didn't check the forum first -(   ). Adobe support had us clean the cache and rename %appdata%\Adobe\Premiere Pro and Libraries\Documents\Adobe directories to _old versions. No luck. I then removed and reinstalled 8.1 and finally today reinstalled 8.0.1, same problem.
The problem was intermittent and we finally realized there were 1+ orphaned processes when we looked in the Task Manager. No slowdown after killing the orphaned processes. I'm going to do more testing to see what sequence of events causes an orphaned process. I suspected and have read in other posts where this is happening when you work on another application, go back and close/reopen PR.
Hope someone has an answer. I've spent a good part of the day reviewing all the current posts and will attempt to get a repeatable case where the problem occurs and then deconstruct the sequence until it goes away.
    Thanks...
