HELP ME!!! Blueberry ibook

Hey guys! I am a complete newbie to apple. I just inherited an ibook Blueberry from my mother's boss. It is running OS 8.6. I have no clue where to find its specifications. I want to know how i would go about upgrading to 9.x or OS X. Also I just bought an ethernet cord and cant figure out how to connect through my modem at home. And as if that wasnt enough, I have to keep it plugged into the wall b/c the battery shows a red X over it and wont charge. Can someone please help me and keep the Techie talk to a min b/c I am super confused. IF possible anyone, Thankyou.

I have no clue where to find its specifications.
Choose Apple System Profiler from the Apple menu.
I want to know how i would go about upgrading to 9.x or OS X.
Purchase and use a retail Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X package after reading the system requirements and getting the computer's specifications.
Also I just bought an ethernet cord and cant figure out how to connect through my modem at home.
It needs to be a cable modem to use Ethernet. If it is a dialup modem, you need a phone cord.
I have to keep it plugged into the wall b/c the battery shows a red X over it and wont charge.
Try the instructions in this article.

  • Restoring original Blueberry iBook G3 with Mac OS 8.6

I recently got a Blueberry iBook G3 and need help restoring it. It has all original documentation and CDs. It has 160 MB of RAM and a 3 GB hard drive. It doesn't have an AirPort card. When I try to restore it it boots and loads to a preloaded desktop (on CD) and then shuts down without giving me any messages or options. I want to install the original software and then upgrade to Mac OS X.

I don't have another battery or a charger (only one). Anyway, it works with Mac OS X (i installed it and it worked), but I want the original software on it. Also, the logicboard is working correctly

  • Blueberry ibook RAM & Apple docs

I also have an original blueberry ibook and would like to upgrade the RAM. However, there seems to be two conflicting pieces of information on Apple's web site:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14870
The first listing for an ibook (about half way down the page) says PC66 up to 288MB.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302333
The listing for the original ibook (at the bottom of the page says this model can also use PC100 memory, such as M9089G/A - 512MB
I have read some of the other postings which suggest the first doc is incorrect and that it will take 512MB. Please help and confirm.
Having upgraded the RAM I intend to also upgrade from Mac OS 9.2.2 to 10.3.9. Does anyone know if the 366MHz processor will handle this?
    Thank you

You can find the firmware version by running Apple System Profiler and looking in the ROM field (I believe that is the name I haven't used OS 9 in a long time).
PC100 will operate at 66 MHz which is the clock speed of the iBook. Therefore you can use PC100.
A lot of PC133 will also operate at 66 MHz. Therefore you can use PC133. But some PC133 devices will not operate at 66 MHz. That is why you need to buy the RAM from someone who offers a lifetime warranty.

  • Blueberry iBook and Epson projector..

I know this is similar to another post but my iBook is older and the projector is different. The only cord I can find (my brother donated this computer to my classroom) is a short 6" clear cord with what looks like a yellow A/V type end (female) and a round (male) pronged (sorry-can't think of what its called) end. Each ends says "out". Is there another cord??

Sorry but the Blueberry iBook does not have any type of video output. Therefore there is no way to connect it to a projector.

  • Updating original Blueberry iBook to OS X?

I'd like to update my Blueberry iBook from OS 9 to OS X. Which version can I update to (10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4)? The later versions of the OS only come in disc DVD, which this iBook can't play, only CD-drive. Any ideas? What about any other things I need to update my Mac to OS X?

    Hello Juan
I've taken a stock, original Tangerine iBook up to OS X (10.3.9). Here is my advice, based on that experience:
    1. Check to see that you have the latest firmware. Here is a link for that info:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
The latest version of firmware for the original iBooks is 4.1.7
    2. Add some RAM. I have a 256MB module in mine, and it works fine. If you have 160MB, you may be able to install OS X, but it will be dirt-slow. (I've had OS X load in as little as 64MB, but it was so slow it was unusable.) 256MB is fine for daily use (e-mail, web surfing, etc).
    3. Depending on what you will do with your OS X powered iBook, a hard drive upgrade is highly recommended. I have run OS X (10.3.9) on the original hard drive, but I had to install nothing but the bare system (no foreign languages, no printers, no extra software). That kind of install is basically limited to checking e-mail and some web browsing. I later swapped out the original 3GB drive for a 20GB unit. Beware: swapping out the hard drive in one of these iBooks is a fairly lengthy process. There are about a zillion little screws and things to keep track of. If you are comfortable with a screwdriver and being around electronics, go for it - if not, a shop would be happy to do it for you. For a look at the tear-down instructions follow this link:
    http://www.pbfixit.com/Guide/49.0.0.html
And decide for yourself if you want to tackle the job.
    4. You need OS X install CDs. The latest version of OS X that will run on your iBook (once you get the hardware up to spec) is Panther (10.3). I would not suggest any version earlier than Jaguar (10.2), which will also run quite well on your machine. You can get the CDs on eBay (as has been suggested) or from online retailers such as
    http://www.hardcoremac.com/
Note: make sure you get retail CDs - NOT CDs that cam with a particular computer - retail CDs can be installed on any machine, while others are machine-specific
That's about all I can think of for now. Good luck!
    Richard

  • Will OS X work with blueberry ibook ?

    ibook blueberry   Mac OS 9.2.x

    Piet-
I just did a clean install on a blue clamshell ibook-I installed OS 10.3.7 and it used all the HD space. I dumped garage band and some other apps and now freed up 3 g of space, but how can I do a custom install and get the OS down to 1.4g like you mentioned? Or...can I go back now and dump other things to clear space? (I will run delocalizer).
    This is a 466mhz with 128 ram.

  • Please Help My Daughter - iBook G4 Needs Software Upgrade ??

I have recently inherited an iBook G4 1.2 GHZ 256 RAM I think 30 or 50 GB.  I cannot tell now because of what I did.  The iBook was not working and I found it had a bad solder on one of the chips (a common issue on this model).  Once repaired, it needed a new battery, and then it sprang right to life.  The iBook worked great - I could use Safari, Garage Band, etc, but due to it's age, Itunes did not work and so I thought if I reinstalled the original operating system (Panther 10.3.5 circa 2004) from the original discs, then I could upgrade from there until I found an iTunes version I could use with a newly reset iPod I had and use it basically just for music.  BIG MISTAKE. After I cleanly installed it all, I now cannot use Safari, profiler won't open and neither will most other applications - I double click them, they flash once and then go away on the sidebar.  So, I need to find a way to upgrade this machine past 10.3.5 so I can get it to work.  Right now, I can only get to the internet using ie for Mac 5.2 - UGH !!! Now I know why Apple stopped using that software.  Anyway, I was doing all of this to get a clean version of iTunes on it so as a surprise, my daughter could sell it and the iPod to raise money for a class trip she is taking to New York in the Spring of 2015.  Please please help me.  Is it as simple as getting updated OS software? I have tried a Tiger disc, but it stopped before it really even got started and said it could not be loaded.    I can see the previous user still has files under user and I can see the folder for the previous system, but they are not accessible. I do have a 27" Mac desktop if that will help me to upgrade the iBook in any way.  Thank you for reading all of this.  Please let me know what options I might have to get this running so it can be sold off. Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
        * A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
        * Built-in FireWire
        * At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)
        * DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
        * At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools  (I recommend 20GB minimum)

  • Please help me! iBooks delete all pdfs then uploads all at every sync.

Hi everyone, I need some help, much appreciated if anyone can give me a hand. I have hundreds of heavy PDF files I use in a daily basis for Uni, about 10GB in my iPad 3 (the one pre-air) is of PDFs. I ran into an issue today for the first time ever, I uploaded a new file to iBooks via ibook in the iMac (with Maverick) + iTunes as usual and the author had lots of unusual characters something like "%674f88uh7(*&" ok...after that file was upoloaded, all other pdfs started to freeze and not loading anymore. So I delete that file and after that nothing worked since. all files showing that loading icon but nothing..so I deleted my entire library (Noooooo) and uplaoded everything again. Now everytime I add a new pdf, the entire library (10GB) of books go grey, then disappear and start loading 1 by 1 all over again, no more incremental uploads like I used to have before/ I tried all settings possible, but again, if I hit sync on iTunes, the iPad library empties out, and starts loading all books, this takes a long hour to complete...I need help please, what am i doing wrong?
    Thanks!

Ok, this has happened to me twice now. I've been using weave since pre-1.0.
The first time I needed to wipe a cluttered firefox profile, then re-merged my sync and while it restored all of my bookmarks, it only caught half my passwords.
The second time, today, I needed to reinstall windows. I connected to firefox sync and selected merge, but the only bookmarks merged in were those I added recently, likely since the 1.4 update.
This is very troubling to me as there was never any warning that all of my data would not be secure. It was my fault for depending on it but now several years worth of bookmarks are just gone.
Am I using it wrong? When a new version comes out do I need to somehow re-sync everything? One would think that is taken care of automatically.
Please let us know if there is a way to recover our lost data.
And for the sake of other users please track this down and consider warning people they could lose their data.
    Thank you.

You can use the AirPort card from the iMac G3 but not the RAM.
The latest OS you can use is OS 10.3.9.

  • HT204365 Help with Syncing iBooks please!

    Hi,
I recently lost much of my data during an iOS7 update on my iPad.  I have found that the PDF's that I had created and stored in iBooks are on my iPhone, but I cannot get them to sync onto my iPad.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I had this problem too.
I had to email the PDF to myself and then on my other device, open them into iBooks.
    Hope that helps!

  • I need help networking a ibook color series blue se with a mac mini please

Ok i need some help let me explain:
I just purchased a blue clamshell g3 366mhz here are my specs:
    powerpc g3 clamshell 366mhz
    apple airport card
    40 gig hard drive
    512 megs of ram
running mac os x tiger 10.4.10 (by the way no issues running mac os x tiger if you upgrade ram and hard drive)
I also own a intel mac mini here are it's system specs
    intel mac mini 1.6 ghz
    1.5 gig's ram
    250 gig hard drive
running mac os x tiger 10.4.10
So here is what i would like to do
    I own apple's ilife 08 and 06 and i purchased a 05 installation disk from amazon.
I use the ibook as photograghy storage while i am out shooting nature shoots and wedding's
I have installed in this order.
    adobe photoshop cs
    adobe illustrator cs
    adobe indesign cs
iphoto 06 (yes it does work on g3 computers
i movie 05 (yes it works as well)
but i really need to be able to network the two machines to each other so i can transfer photo's from one machine to another. How do i do this????
Is there a way to do this with the airport cards????
Do i need to purchase software from apple???
    If so what???

You can use Ethernet or AirPort or even Firewire.
The fastest way to transfer photos is to boot the iBook into Firewire Target Disk mode. The iBook will then act as an external FireWire drive. You can then drag files from the iBook to the Mac mini.
For other options, you can find details on making a network for file sharing in KB 106461, Mac OS X: About File Sharing.

  • Help! My iBook G4 only gets to the blue background when I reboot!

I have a 14" iBook G4, which I purchased several months ago, and twice since my purchase I have had an issue with starting up my computer. This time, however, it unexpectedly shut down and will not turn back on past the turquoise screen. So all I get is a start up apple logo with the spinny thing at the bottom and then nothing further except my cursor and the backdrop.
Last time I had to do something with my apple key and some commands, does anyone know the exact process? If you do, can you please explain the step by step guide to fixing this. The service man on my campus thought it was a software problem. I have a paper that is only saved on my computer that is due next tuesday so I would love to get this resolved as soon as possible.
    Thank you very much.
    Go blue.
    ibook

    Hi,
You can try this as yesterday my friend faced a similar problem and we did this to get his machine back to life:
    1. Do you have a cd in the drive?
Then while starting the computer press the trackpad, so that the cd ejects.
    2. Insert the system check cd, press c while you start, and run a system test, make sure everything is ok.
    3. Then you can insert the original panther cds, press c and the installation will start, you dont have to run it, just choose the disk utility, and verify the hard drive, hopefully by repairing the disk things will become alright.
    4. You can eject the cd and then try to reboot again.
This is what helped us and we could get it to wokr again,
    Hope it helps,
    cheers

  • Upgrading blueberry iBook to 10.3?

This is my wife's computer (128 mg ram, 366 mhz, 10 gig HD) that I upgraded to 10.23 some time back after I got a new iBook and had no other computer running the older version of OSX. That was fine for her but now she is running into websites that won't deal with her ancient version of Explorer.
So what I am wondering is whether I would be able to use the installation CDs that came with my iBook G4 (since I've upgraded to Tiger) and get 10.3 on her machine that way. She has only used about 5 gigs of her hard drive so she has a fair amount of unused space there that I could probably clean out to make more space.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Doug

    Hi Doug -
Ethically speaking I would have no problems installing Panther from your ibook G4 onto the clamshell - if the discs actually do work.
I fail to see the beneifts of a licensed system on an obsolete and unsupported machine.
On a different matter and assuming you haven't upgraded yet - I think you may have the 'Indigo' clamshell (366, 10 gig, 64 MB onboard Ram + an additional 64 MB to get 128 MB total) ...and if this is the case you can start up from your Panther discs on your G4 and then install the system onto the clamshell via 'Target Disc Mode' thru your firewire connection.
