Help Me Choose a Netbook

I am trying to decide between a Dell Inspiron Mini Netbook with 8GB SSD or an Acer Aspire One Netbook with 160G HD.  Both have 1G DDR2 memory.  The OS and related programs take up 7.5G of 8G SSD on Dell.  Rest of the specs are pretty much the same and price is the same.  Feedback please.

I really would spend the extra money and get one with a 120gb or 160gb Hard Drive.
The SSD drives are too small for the average user and are for people who want the absolute bare minimum requirements for just browsing the internet. I dont think they are suitable for photo work or emails unless you have other storage arrangements. Honestly, I dont know why they have SSD models of computers to begin with.

  • Please help me choose a netbook for running arch

I'm looking for a 10-12" netbook with a long battery life. Currently I'm considering Samsung N140, N150, N210 and NC10. I like the look of N150 but I don't know how well will it run Arch. I'm also considering MSI Wind u160, but the awful gloss of the body scares me off.
At first I was very sure I'll pick Benq u121, but the I found out that Intel GMA 500 has very poor support.
Could anyone share his experience with Arch on netbooks with nice battery life? I'm talking about battery life of 6+ hours.

  • Help me choose a Macbook Pro

Hey everyone, I need some help in choosing which Macbook Pro is right for me.
Basically I'm wondering which of these 2 would be a better choice.

    http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB471LL/A?mco=MTEzMjIzODU
    What are the main differences?
4gb of ram should be sufficient and I doubt I would ever upgrade to 8gb.
as for graphics, I would mostly only need a mac that would allow me to play the latest Sims games. the first has a graphics memory of 512 and the second has 256.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Help me choose a 865PE board

    Hi,
I need some help in choosing the best(most feature packed, fast etc.) MSI 865PE motherboard.
There are two boards that are pretty identical and trying to find the difference between them has been difficult. They are the Neo2-FIS2R and Neo2-PFISR.
Which one of these two should I buy? They cost about the same. What are the major differences between them?
    Please help me in choosing.
    Thanks!

The faster Prescott's are no longer shown, so maybe they are being re-spec'd again.
Great, I did see this link earlier but I'm confused by several things and please excuse my ignorance but I have been out of the Hardware scene for 4-5 months which is a long time in hight tech.
First thing on this table that I see on the P version is "P4EE Support" what is this? and why does the first table not support it?
On the first table it had a column "PCB Ver." what is this and where can it be found on my computer or Mobo?
So from looking at this link then I can safely say that I can buy a prescott CPU and it will run fine on my neo2 FIS2R?
faster Prescott's, so are there variations in the CPU and will my board be able to handle the faster ones?
Sorry about all the questions but if I can get answers to these then it would be extremely helpful.

    UPDATED:
I do find these two tables very confusing and there is little explanation, To me the first table is saying that all the boards only support P4's and not prescott? the second table is saying that only the Extreme Edition supports prescott?
but the second table also lists the FIS2R etc so its all very confusing????

  • Help With Choosing The Technology

    Hello,
I need help in choosing the appropriate technology for the application that I'm going to be creating.
The characteristics of the system that have been decided until now:
Standalone app built on either Flex/Flash/AIR
Restricted to using the system on a single computer, hence can be a tightly coupled system
The server component of the system needs to be closed source and robust, for which im thinking something like a Java backend, etc, etc.
In a completely new environment, all that i need to be able to do is install just the AIR application and not worry about installing extra stuff for the server support.
Thanks In Advance for anyone who can help me out with this.

If you are saying you want the server component to be on the same machine as the Flex app, then your choices are severely limited due to the sandbox, unless of course you are using AIR, then you can just use the SQLite database.
But if there will be a sevrer component on another machine on the web, you could use BlazeDS, and like I said, its free and very robust.

  • Help me choose a monetization model

I am creating a Windows Phone application(category - tools and productivity). I now choose monetization model:
    1. I will show ads in the application. The user can buy off advertising. It will be the same application package. Check payment will occur within the application.  Some applications use buying the new version without  advertising. What
    it gives advantages?
    2. I will show ads in the application and limit the functionality of the application to the first purchase. The user can simply turn off the Internet and use the program without advertising. For this case, use a limited functionality
    application.
Which of these options is better?

Actually I have been doing further research and I personally would either go with the 2.6GHz NON RETINA MBP or cough up the cash and go all out on a 2.6GHz RETINA MBP and upgrade the RAM to 16GB  and upgrade to 768GB Flash storage, I am a student as well so will get a discount which will help.
My fears are that if I get the Retina model I will not be able to upgrade it even further, I want to keep the computer for at least a good 5 years, during those 5 to 8 years will the current upgrades be enough to keep up with the top games and programs etc? Also I have read that repairing the Retina display model is very diffcult  and it can malfunction commonly, so I am guessing I should get apple care on top of it just to be sure with this particular model?
I am assuming that they they will bring out the new models out next year and all the chinks and bugs of the current Retina model will be fixed so to speak, of which I have read there is a few... Would it be worth buying the NON RETINA MBP and then selling and upgrading to an improved RETINA MBP model next year?
Finally if i back up my files on a hardrive would I have to use the USP SUPER DRIVE to install files onto the RETINA MBP or can i directly do this without the USP SUPERDRIVE?
    Thanks

  • Help with choosing the right specifications for a Macbook Pro Retina?

    Opinions needed....
So I'm new to Macs, but I know what I want to achieve and I feel this is the right route to choose. I'm looking at delving into the world of music production, using Logic pro 9 and garageband, but I also enjoy watching High definition Movies and televison so I know that the Retina display is definatley the right choice for me. However, I'm unsure on the amount of RAM & Which processer I should choose. I have read a fair bit on forums and online about the new retina macbooks being 'locked' from upgrading, so the 16GB of RAM is an immediate choice for logetivity.
The choice of processor is when I start to become clouded in my choice. As forementioned, I'm looking at running logic pro, as well as high def movies. There is also a possibilty at looking into photo and video editing, Whether that be in final cut pro or photoshop... But I want to leave my options open.
I think the choice of 16GB of RAM, 2.6Ghz processor, with a 256GB hard drive ( as i have 1.5TB external space) would be a good choice. Once I've added on applecare that comes out at around £2350, Which is a significant investment, but one that I think will help me immensely for the future. I am interested in other peoples opinions on my possible choice because, as I said before, I'm new to the world of Macs and making the right choice is essential. As a side note, the choice of upgrades also ensures a reasonable resale value, which is a bonus.
    Regards

Both power adapter I have are different (at the magnet end) from the one in link.
Earlier adapters have T shaped connectors, which Apple later changed to the L shape, presumably to make them more abuse-proof. Either one is fine and the one you are using will not damage your Mac.
Retina MBPs and new MBAs use a completely different MagSafe 2 connector which will not fit (without an adapter).

  • Hard Drive Crash - need help with choosing new drive and installation

My hard drive seems to have crashed. My computer froze, and when I tried to reboot, it got stuck at the startup screen. I started from the system CD, ran the disk repair utility, and it said it could not repair the disk. I ran Tech Tool Pro and it could not repair the disk. I tried to start up in Target disk mode while connected to my older G4 iMac (that I'm using now as my backup), and the disk would not mount. So I need some expert advice - I am assuming the hard drive is toast. I wish I could at least mount it in target disk mode to transfer files, but I haven't been able to do that. I was going to take it in for repair (or possibly buy a new computer), but after reading some of the posts here, I am thinking I could just replace the internal hard drive with a 3.5" SATA drive.
What I need to know is am I correct about this? And is this the right kind of drive for my iMac? Are there any specifications I need to be aware of when ordering a new drive? I downloaded the manual explaining how to replace the drive and it looks doable. I would appreciate any guidance as to choosing the new drive (specific brand names/models would be great), installing the drive, and tips for formatting, etc. Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to Discussions - any 3 1/2" SATA drive will be fine, go to [macsales.com] or [smalldog.com] or [newegg.com] and choose whichever drive fits your wallet. Most of them are reliable, I have heard of problems with Seagate and Hitachi, but there are always some failures with any brand. Make sure to get a good warranty.Instructions will come with the drive, but you can download them from [Apple|http://www.apple.com/support/manuals/imac> as well.

  • Help me choose between a G4 867 DP or 1.33 G4 Mac mini

What would be better to use for me? I do simple desktop publishing with Indesign and Photoshop CS, I need to choose between a MDD Dual 867 with 2 gig of ram, ATI 8500 video card, airport card and two SATA hard drives with a total of 360 GB of storage or a Mac mini 1.33 GHz G4 with 1 gig of ram, bluetooth & airport extreme with a external 160 GB mini stack. I like the MDD because its upgradeable but is it worth putting more money in it? The mac mini I am stuck with the 1 gig of ram & 32 mb video card. I need help with this decision so your input would be very appreciated.

No NO!!! Go with the Mini! The mini is much better as its so small and cute and doesn't take up all that room compared to that mighty MDD machine!
    JUST KIDDING!!!!
No, seriously go with the MDD. Its more stable, rock solid, and would show the mini a thing or two. My dual 1.25 simply rocks!
The DP 1.6 and 1.8 LACK L3 CACHE!!! remember, L3 CACHE is the backbone as to why the G4s are still fighting to hang on!! No, I would rather keep my dual 1.25 with 2MB L3 then go with a sonnet upgrade which doesn't have L3. Unless, someone can honestly tell me if its really worth my money(of which I have, and can get things at wholesale price) to pop in the 1.8DP or 1.6dp and see DRAMATIC speed performance and speed bumps.

I have written an article on IT toolbox which gives folks new to SAP an idea of what a typical career path looks like. It can be found at http://it.toolbox.com/wiki/index.php/Advice_for_Recent_College_Graduates_(aka_%22Freshers%22).
    Here's the short version
college > entry level non-SAP job (3-5 years) > entry level job as SAP end user (3 to 5 years)  > SAP training and/or SAP certification (on the job or nights & weekends)  > entry level SAP configuration job (1 to 3 years) > at this point you can branch to either entry level SAP consulting or to mid level SAP configuration with a company.
You seem to be at step two of the process. It's time for you to look for a job and an end user with a company that is either already running SAP or is in the process of implementing SAP. If you are extremely lucky and land a job with a company in the process of implementing and they're willing to include you on the implementation team as someone who knows the business processes in general but not SAP, then you can shortcut a bit, but that involves a bit of luck.
Please don't choose your future career based on what random folks tell you the future is in a forum. Regardless of anyone's predictions, the correct choice is the area about which you feel most passionate.  Neither HR nor FI are going away any time soon, so your passion for one topic or the other will drive you to learn more and become a vital part of any company you join. Passion is the key.
    I hope this helps!
    Best regards,
      -Tom

  • Help needed choosing a new router

    Hi there,
Our company is in need of a new router for internet traffic. Because I'm having trouble selecting a model, I would like to ask for your help on this one. Our situation is as follows:
     - Primary internet connection is a 60/10 Mbps cable connection.
     - Backup internet connection is an ADSL connection (not normally in use)
     - Currently our old DrayTek Vigor 2910 is incapable of processing more than 25 Mbps.
     - We have approximately 35 users working in our office.
     - Traffic primarily consists of web browsing, e-mail and VOIP phone calls.
When the need arises, we would like to have the option of adding an additional cable connections for more bandwidth.
Additionally, we would like to replace our OpenVPN server with Cisco VPN on this new router, which should handle about 5 users during daytime and 10 outside of office hours.
I have narrowed it down to a 2900-series router because of the flexibility provided by the EHWIC slots. I have found the following models:
    Model
    WAN performance
    Realistic performance
    Cisco 2901
    25 Mbps
    167 Mbps
    Cisco 2911
    35 Mbps
    181 Mbps
    Cisco 2921
    50 Mbps
    246 Mbps
    Cisco 2951
    75 Mbps
    297 Mbps
These performance numbers confuse me as to which model to choose.

  • Can anyone help me choose files to upload?

Ever since my last Apple update I haven't been able to upload files to any website.  When I click the upload file button the files come up, I highlight them but that's all I can do.  Right click doesn't work, left click doesn't work and there is no choose button like I used to have.  The updates are supposed to fix things not make it a hundred times worse to use.  Can anyone help me?  I'm trying to create a website for a business that we're building and I need help asap, please!  Thanks very much in advance!

Thanks BD, your answer helped me to find things that I didn't know existed in the Utilities folder.  The actual answer for my problem though was not in there, but it got me to thinking a little stronger.  When all of the repair disk and repair permissions stuff didn't help, I tried another option, I eliminated one of my toolbars at the top and then the actual choose/cancel buttons appeared!  They were still there at the bottom but inaccessible till I deleted that toolbar which moved the whole page up an inch!  I am so happy now, I thank you for your help, Lee Tracey
