Help me choose the best MP3 from Creative!

Hi all
My beloved ancient Creative Zen is giving up the ghost after 4 years' loving service and I'd like another one. I just want a music player - no need for photos or movies, and I would like 20gb memory. I'm finding the array of products by Creative bewildering and would appreciate some recommendations as i would really like to stick with Creative.
Thanks!

Thanks for your detailed reply! My old player (the very basic Zen) is starting to wear its battery down very quickly and freezes a lot, particularly if I try to change songs soon after I have turned it on. I can reboot it, but it takes a while and I know there isn?t much life left in it. Plus I can't upgrade it to work alongside Vista! I don?t know if I could update the firmware, sounds a bit out of my league! That ebay seller has a good feedback record but alas only sells to USA. I can't find a Creative VM on Amazon at all so I suppose they are too old to be listed? If I have to have one with video capability then I suppose I can just ignore that bit! But I was hoping to get a sole music player for a little less money. I suppose the Creative Xtra from Amazon, while secondhand, might still be worth investing in in the short term as it'ss not expensi've and the seller of the product has good feedback. How difficult is it to update firmware, please?
Is this what your player looks like? http://cgi.ebay.com/Creative-Nomad-Jukebox-Zen-with-20GB-hard-dri've_W0QQitemZ2003434505QQcmdZViewItemQQptZOther _MP3_Players?hash=item2ea565e90b&_trksid=p3286.c0. m4&_trkparms=66%3A4|65%3A0|39%3A|240%3A38|30%3A0|2 93%3A|294%3A200? If so the battery & the hardri've can be changed for alot less than a new player. It can be used with Vista just can't sync with WMP (drag & drop thru Nomad Explorer) As for the Xtra you must have XP/SP2 WMP0 installed to upgrade firmware. Lots of people have problems doing it.& brick their players. You may still want to contact the Ebay seller & ask if he is willing to ship to you. The worst he could tell you is no.Where are you located? You can probably find one just may take a little more digging

  • Need help in choosing the best design approch

    Dear helper,
I have assigned enhancement project for old system.
the old system divided into three pakages:
    1. listener : listen to a data feed from a gateway using socket
    2. analyser: connects to the listner and analyse the feed using some basic string processing like substring() method.
3.datamanger: connect to the analyser and write the analysed feed to a database server.
as you notice this design depends on client- server Architecture, each package composed of two components : client and server( reader and writer)
the proplem is the feed come from the gateway is two fast than the reading and writing process of the system. who can i make compremised solution so that i can balance the process of reading and writing with the feed speed
    thanks

    Use queues buddy.
Put data that you read into a queue....
let another process process it and write it into another queue
and yet another process to write the processed data into its destination.
ie a process that does reading only
and a process that does writing only.
this will help you solve the speed problems.

If your computer is on one minute before it freezes, than you have one minute to secure your serial number.
click the apple----->click about this Mac ------> click on version----> until you see the serial number.  You may have to do this a couple of times if it freezes before you have all the numbers.  A camera might help.

Hey rbrylawski, just wanted to let you know that my ipad email problems have been solved. Called Apple Sup in OZ, I'm in NZ. Daniel Barber was the support tech from heaven!! I was about to return the ipad but solving this issue reset my faith in phone support.....perhaps until I call a differnet companys phone support eh? Anyhow, for reference the fix is below.  My accounts are all POP not IMAP, and the primary smtp server setting had defaulted to have SSL switched on and the port was set to 5XX (something, cant remember). Anyhow, SSL was switched off and the port was swithced to 25. VOILÀ!!  Settings/Mail, contacts, calendars/My POP mail account/smtp/primary server/ >>> server on, no username and password,  use SSL off,  no authentication,  Server Port 25  Thanks for having a crack at it. This might help when assisting another user. Cheers Tonino

  • What's one of the best mp3 playe

I was wondering, in other peoples opinions what the best or their favorite mp3 player out is regardless of price. I had the 8 gig ipod nano, not the one with video the one before it, and the sound quality?was lacking. Sound quality is an importrant factor?for me, i know my headphones werent the problem i own a pair of ultimate ears superfi 5 studio earbud headphones that ran me $250.

Well, the "best" mp3 player I have is my PC with a high-end sound card and matching speakers. Okay, since you asked in this forum, I suppose you were talking about the portable mp3 players (lugging my PC around ain't an option). I have the Zen V Plus and am very happy with it. I generally play the music through my car stereo ... and it sounds great on my Bose speakers!?No matter which mp3 player you buy, you probably don't want to stay with the default headphones they put in the package. I also bought a speaker system for my bedroom?that I use to listen to music while "hiding out" from the rest of the family. Although it was made to dock an iPod, it also has a USB and headphone jack that I plug into my Zen. The speakers on this unit aren't the best of quality, but they're adequate for what I use them for.

  • Choosing the best query

    Hi there,
Can some one help me on selecting the best query from the following two queries:
    QUERY 1:
    select p.name, d.descr
    from table1 p, table2 d
    where p.cod_table1 = d.cod_table2(+) and d.dom(+) ='T';
    ID Query Plan
    0 SELECT STATEMENT Cost = 5
    1 HASH JOIN OUTER
    2 TABLE ACCESS FULL table1
3 TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID table2
    4 INDEX RANGE SCAN DDOM_DOM_FK
    QUERY 2:
    select p.name, (select d.descr from table2 d where p.cod_table1 = d.cod_table2 and d.dom='T') as descr
    from table1 p;
    ID Query Plan
    0 SELECT STATEMENT Cost = 2
    1 TABLE ACCESS FULL table1
I'm a bit surprise about the explain result of the second query, because there is no reference to table2 access. What's happening ?
Tks in advance for any tip,
    Helena.

I've noticed that issue with the query plan for those types of querys (in 8.1.7. It may be better in a lter database).
I think the queries will take the same time.
However if you are basing a view on the query, the second would be better as the lookup table will only be accessed if the descr is selected from the view, and performance will therefore be better for queries not accessing the descr column.
[I asked pretty much the same question on asktom.oracle.com]

  • I Need Help to Access The Source Code From A Form to Know the Calculation Formula

    Hi,
I Need Help to Access The Source Code From A Form to Know the Calculation Formula. The application is a windows form application that is linked to SQL Server 2008. In one of the application forms it generates an invoice and does some calculations. I just
need to know where behind that form is the code that's doing the calculations to generate the invoice, I just need to get into the formula that's doing these calculations.
    Thank you so much.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. This is a view and [AmountDue] is supposed to be [CurrentDueAmount] + [PastDueAmount] - [PaidAmount]. The view is not calculating [PaidAmount] right . Below is the complete code of the view. Do you see anything wrong in the code ?

  • Help With Choosing The Technology

    Hello,
I need help in choosing the appropriate technology for the application that I'm going to be creating.
The characteristics of the system that have been decided until now:
Standalone app built on either Flex/Flash/AIR
Restricted to using the system on a single computer, hence can be a tightly coupled system
The server component of the system needs to be closed source and robust, for which im thinking something like a Java backend, etc, etc.
In a completely new environment, all that i need to be able to do is install just the AIR application and not worry about installing extra stuff for the server support.
Thanks In Advance for anyone who can help me out with this.

If you are saying you want the server component to be on the same machine as the Flex app, then your choices are severely limited due to the sandbox, unless of course you are using AIR, then you can just use the SQLite database.
But if there will be a sevrer component on another machine on the web, you could use BlazeDS, and like I said, its free and very robust.

  • If zen Micro had more space it would b the best mp3 player ev

if the Zen Micro had more space... it would THE best mp3 player EVER... HANDS DOWN!... hint hint
I want the Zen Touch...(my bday is tomorrow)...and I am getting the FM remote thingy too. I would have bought the Zen Micro but I have 20.4 gigs of music which I am compressing right now....5 gigs is too limiting. I would LOVE it if the Zen Micro had more space! Only then would I get rid of my Touch.....

The Zen Micro uses a different type of storage to the Zen Touch, unfortunately at the moment the sizes of the storage media don't allow for something as small as the Micro to store 20GB. The Zen Touch uses a hard-dri've.
Thanks for the comments though, I'll be sure to pass them on.

  • Please Help me to Choose the best config to run forms on web

    Hi,
I have started upgrading my application from Dev2000 1.3 to Dev2000 6i in order to deploy on web. I have few questions to ask
    1. I need to know which config is the best & fast to run my applications out of
         1. Applet
         2. IE50Native
         3. JInitiator
    2. For testing I have configured forms server in socket mode. When I am using JInitiator even after exiting the application from test terminal, "ifweb60.exe" process initiated due to this session remains running. It takes long time when I try to initiate the same application for second time. This problem is not frequent, but this has happened 4 times while testing. Could this be due to Pentium4.
    Thanks in advance

I'm quite new to j2EE developement.
Currently im working on a web based user management application ( a small scale one ).
For that im hoping to use JSP s for presentaion tier and EJBs for business logic. This business logic seems to be having more on database accessing. Im not using Entity Beans for data access , but hope to use Session Beans. Why EJBs? POJOs will work just fine.
    >
Is it ok if i develop according to this model , or is it better to use Entity Beans for data acccess ?Neither. Use POJOs. What are EJBs buying you?
Is it a bad design to use Session Beans for data accessing ?Why?
Or else , what if i avoid EJB s completely and database access is done via JSP itself ?Ouch, no. JSPs are for presentation only.
Or i have another option , that is , using JSP for the presentation layer and Servlets for database accessing.Wrong again.
what is the preferred way ? How i can decide a better way ?Learn how to layer an app properly. Learn Spring. http://www.springframework.org

  • Help me on choosing the best sound quality for my music on my itunes!!!

I heard that AIFF Encoder is the best sound quality you can import your music into Itunes. On the settings for AIFF Encoder do you know what Sample Rate, Sample Size, and what Channel I should set it to? Should I just leave them on Auto? How about if I have a HDCD? What are your suggestions?

I agree use Apple Lossless. Bizarrely it is also easier to share Apple Lossless with Windows Media Player than AIFF.
I have my entire iTunes library in Apple Lossless and shared with WMP and also Media Center 2005. I can also use it in full lossless quality with Roku SoundBridge, Apple TV, iPhone, iPod, etc. etc. etc.

    price doesnt matter
    so please guide me
what is best for portray shooting
what all accessories that essential and must have
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The body needs to be good enough to be up to the task at hand.  Example:
Suppose I want to take an image of a flowers in a vase in excellent lighting.  The camera is on a tripod.  The subject is not moving (no "action" to capture.)
In a situation like that, you basically have all the time in the world to frame up and capture that shot.  This shot isn't going to test the limits of what a camera can do -- any camera body would be fine.
If, on the other hand, you're shooting in very poor lighting, then a body that can handle high ISO senstivity levels while keeping the image "noise" levels low would definitely have an advantage.  If you're shooting "action" photography then a camera with a great focus system and a fast frame rate would be definitely have an advantage.
Since portraits tend to be posed and aren't "action" photography, the focus system and frame rate isn't usually critical.  You also usually get to control the lighting in portraiture rather than having to make-do with whatever lighting happens to be available -- so even the ability to shoot at very high ISO settings isn't actually very important (again... for portraiture.  For some other type of photography that might be really important.)
The new 70D will certainly be a more capable camera than the 650D.
The 650D is part of Canon's "Rebel" series.  These are all entry-level bodies... the T3 being the low-end of the range and the T5i being the high-end of the "Rebel" range.
The 70D is part of Canon's mid-range bodies... these are bodies that start to have the benefits of the pro bodies (e.g. the control layout on the camera is much closer to the pro bodies.)
The big new feature on the 70D is Canon's new hybrid AF mode which is especially nice for shooting video.  The 70D also has basically the same focus system as is found on the Canon 7D (the 7D has a lot of optimizations which make it ideal for action photography).  It has a 19 point auto-focus system (vs. the 9 point system found on the Rebel bodies.)
Again... if you're subjects aren't moving then having a more advanced focus system isn't a big deal.
What would be a big deal for portraiture... is lighting gear.

  • How can i get the best sound from my electric guitar?

    Hello,
I'm new to the Apple forums. I have come seeking some knowledge about how I can make my guitar sound really good like a metal/rock sound while at the same time not sounding unnaturally distorted but clean.
I have a Macbook Air with a Griffin iMic. I have tried some of built in presets for metal/rock but they are either too noisy (background hiss) or they arn't rock like enough. I like the metal ones but they have too much hiss and it ruins my recordings (sounds like a jumbled mess in the end...)
I'm not only new to the forums, but i'm also new to electric guitar and peddles. I'm certainly not new to guitar itself though, been playing for 7 years. What I really seek is what kind of settings I can have like a combination of the best amp model + pedals along with settings or effects to apply to it.
Thanks in advance, I hope i provided enough info.

You can by pass the iMic by using the same adaptor and plugging straight into the Line in on your mac. Try it and see if there is a difference in your sound.
Regarding settings, I was able to develop one which has minimal noise levels but also some distortion. I will defiantly experiment more...
Yeah, the key is to start with as clean a sound as possible and then add in little bits. Start adding with a Chorus effect first, then maybe a slight delay. Try all of your setting with both strumming and picking, both fast and slow, as you often have to match your playing technique with how the effects are set up. Then add Fuzz/Distortion etc. Once you have done that then reverse the set up sequence by starting with the major signal modifiers like Distortion etc and add the chorus, flanger, phasers after. These sorts of strategies can change the way things sound. Don't forget a bit of reverb.
The key is to start simple with mild alterations. Also, find a few guitar sounds you like from your favorite songs where you can hear good clear guitar sounds. Maybe create a playlist in iTunes and use these as a reference to compare between what you like and what you are creating. This A-B'ing will go along way to helping you develop your 'taste'. Its great to hear things side by side.
Goggle each of the guitar effects and learn what they do, make a few simple notes as a reference. Basically educate yourself.
and invest in a M-Audio Fast track 2 as i suspect the griffin is causing the noise.
Personally I would recommend something a bit better than the M-Audio Fast Track USB. The quality of your recorded sound is dependent on the sound converters in your external devices. I am not sure there is any advantage over your built in sound card verses the Fast Track. There are other things to consider with sound cards so it pays to do some planning and research.

  • PLease help me with the best product to buy, Logic Express, which one?

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro snow leopard 10.6.4 with garageband 09. I need a very simple to use editing and mastering program and wondered if the logic express would be best suited to my needs. If so, Then WHICH logic express is the easiest to learn that is compatible with my computer an with garageband 09?
I am not an engineer, so I need something user friendly, and self help along the way. Any suggestions on what to purchase would be great, and money IS a factor. If the logic express program would be best, does it have to be an '09 program?
So, What would be the best program for a beginner who needs good results? It seems with some of what i have read that some of these programs replace the garageband? I like garageband.
    Help?!

I upgraded from GB to LE8 a few months ago and whilst there is a steeper learning curve it is much better, you won't regret it. If you're wanting to just do simple editing then LE 8 & 9 are pretty similar (i picked up LE8 very cheaply on ebay then decided to upgrade to 9 once I'd got my head around it to take advantage of flextime editing & the drum replacer). You'll find all the things you do in GB much easier, quicker, & more effective in Logic once you've learned how to use it. Both 8 or 9 are great for the relative lack of outlay, just depends how much money you want to spend is my advice.
