Help me decide on what apple laptop i want to get. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

hi, as you can see, i am new to the discussions. i grew up on a mac and have had a mac for a family computer all of my life.
well i started really getting into video games, (especcially computer games). and went to buy my first computer that i didnt have to share. of course it was a pc (acer aspire 3500 laptop). i was into games.
so i got used to windows, and its ok. but not vary fun. and after a while i started to get jealous of my best friend and his ibook G4 and all of its capabilities. i was really into blizzard games. and i now reallise they are mac compatible Doh! of course i also liked CS. as anyone with a pc does. anyways im getting old of games but still like to play the accasional. and i went to apples website and was amazed with tiger. and found out about bootcamp and all that stuff. i wanted a laptop, since i do alot of travelling. and i was intruiged by the macbook. i would go for the higher end one. with some upgraded ram.(white) but then there is the macbook pro with some great graphics capabilities. but comparing the two i found that macbook performs just as well, sometimes better than the IMO overpriced macbook pro. i am not really willing to spend 3000 dollars on a laptop or any computer really. i just want a good reliable Apple lappy that will last me a while. now i AM willing to spend 2000 dollars on a macbook pro or an upgraded macbook. but what one is the better deal? i think it is pretty obvious that its the macbook. BUT- i have heard many many a bad things about some of these macbooks. such as battery problems, overheating issues. and random shut downs. i dont want those hassles! is a macbook pro less prone to theese sort of things and is it worth getting over a macbook? Or are all of these problems with the macbook just early production problems and i should wait a while for them to be resolved? please help me make this decision. this is the only place i could find to post this so i hope its ok to have this topic here. and sorry about the life-story. i just need to get some honest opinions, because i need a new laptop soon (mine is on the way out) and this is a big chunk of change here. thanks in advance.
acer aspire 3500 laptop with a 30 minute lasting battery and has fallen apart. Windows XP i need a mac....

I think that you should go with the MacBook also and get it maxed out.
I know you have heard this now from everyone that has posted on this topic but it is true that a maxed out MacBook is better then a MacBook Pro.
The games work perfectly on my MacBook and the games that I have played have been, The Sims, Orgeon Trail, Halo, Tiger Woods, Madden 07.
No problems and graphics are stunning.
I also like the size in the Macbook since I also travel a lot and I my brother has the MacBook Pro and he hates lugging it around on airplanes and stuff since it is a lot bigger.
So...
Final Answer: MacBook with 2gb of RAM and a 120gb hardrive since you are willing to spend 2000 dollars.
Good Luck and Have Fun!

I have an Apple ID and want to get free ringtones on my iPhone 4.. What more is needed to do this?  I have worked on this all day and I am very frustrated.

You could have multiple libraries on one computer and then hold the Shift key down when startng iTunes to choose which library to use.
Or you can have everything in one Library with organized media and apps using multiple Apple IDs.
    Which would you choose?

If you used the Apple ID to buy content, you will need to maintain the ID to update or redownload the content. Apple does not transfer content from one ID to another, nor does Apple merge Apple IDs.

  • Sick of XP! what apple laptop to buy

    hello apple users
well i have joined the iphone 3G revolution and im so impressed im now really keen in buying a apple laptop !
I currently have a Dell Laptop with 2GB RAM running XP. All I do is surf the web, do some Excel & Word docs (home finances, letters etc) and i have thousands of photos and a growing list of HD video from my Panasonic HD SD9 camcorder
I'd be really gratefull for some recommendations on what laptop model I should buy and what extra software i may need too?
are the macs as memory sucking as XP ?
    Thansk for your time

Your usage description points towards a MacBook so you're in the correct forum. iPhoto (included) does a wonderful job of organizing and working with your photo collection. I'm a little inexperienced with video so perhaps another poster can bring you up to speed for that. The Mac version of ms office can be purchased and used on your MacBook although I use Mac's iWork '08 for my office suite needs because it's much cheaper and works very well.
If you have 2GB of RAM in a MacBook, it will run very well but you have the ability to increase your MacBook to 4GB and it should scream with that amount. This is not to say that you would be locked in to purchasing RAM from Apple so with that in mind, the initial purchase can be user upgraded much cheaper than customizing your order. The same holds true for your hard drive (user upgradable and cheaper). -GDF

  • How do i change what apple id i want to use when updating apps?

When updating apps, it shows my boyfriends apple id (we share a plan and both just got 4S). Every thing else shows my apple id. I want to use my own accont to update apps. How do I get rid of his apple id on my phone?

    You cannot.
Apps will always be tied to the account from which they were purchased.  You will always have to update them using the same account.

  • Help determining which Apple laptop to buy...

    Hello:
I will apologize as I previously posted this topic in the wrong forum. However, I think this area might be better. Anyway...
I am going to be buying an Apple laptop and want some opinions and assistance selecting the model.
The last Apple I had was an Apple //e. Yes, I would like to return to the fold...
I would like to produce audio for podcasts and make DVDs from video of my family/children.
I program (not for a living) and mainly would use the laptop for writing, web/blog updates, and audio (iTunes and other).
    Comments are appreciated.

In reference to the above...Mr. Jobs should make a new commercial for those of us who are returning to Apple. Picture this…Mr. Jobs walking around a campus. The song, Welcome back Kotter, starts playing as Steve sees an Apple Powerbook being used by a professor. Steve looks down and smiles. Gabriel Kaplan (Mr. Gabe Kotter) looks up and smiles. The words of the song begin to play as Mr. Jobs and Mr. Kaplan smile at each other. Mr. Jobs nods, Mr. Kaplan nods, and Mr. Jobs walks away as the theme song trails off. The commercial ends with the following two lines of text on the screen, “Welcome back…to that same old place that you laughed about.” Followed by “Apple.com” on the screen.

    Hello Counsel,
And a hearty pre-Welcome Back. (however, I suspect your not going to see an Apple commercial with that tag-line).
I agree with ytesjammer on everything he said and that a PowerBook is the way to go. The only other consideration is how much you really will be hauling the laptop around. If your still on campus backpacking books and a laptop, size & weight would be a consideration. If you’re in a biz setting, and occasionally making biz trips with a laptop in the case, then it's not such a big deal for an occasional presentation or travel. The reason for "bigger screen is better", is that if your programming, looking long & hard at the LCD screen, the more space you have for display the better. This is also very true for timeline's on a video.
FWIW, it is that most people like the idea of portability but don't really end up carrying around a laptop all that much.
    So, PowerBook, Yes.
Size determined by how much you really will be porting the computer.
    Respectfully,

  • I want a apple laptop but not sure what to get, any ideas?

I want a apple laptop but not sure what to get, it has to be under £1100 and I only want it to surf the internet quick run minecraft and be able to store films and school work.

Visit an Apple Store and talk to one of the salespeople there. They can help you decide what will best suit your needs.
    Regards.

  • I have GarageBand for iPad 2 and noticed that there are far fewer loops for iPad than for apple laptops. Is there a library available of apple loops? I haven't been able to find any if there are. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update: An Apple rep called me today to update the status of my return. I was told that the replacements for the BLACK iPad 2's was still another 3 weeks out (at least) so they offered me a brand new WHITE 16GB iPad 2. I could have that or continue waiting. I opted to go ahead and accept the offer of a new white one. Worst case scenario if I don't like the white one I have buddy that just bought a 16GB black one that he would be willing to swap it.

my ipod touch crashed and stays stuck on apple icon..I've held both buttons together to shut it down so many times, but soon as screen goes black, and its off it turns it on again by its self and won't stay off.I can't restore ipod beause itunes on my apple laptop won't sync or reconize ipod.I have the latest version of itunes, what else can I do?My itunes on my other  windows laptop won't either because that says there is no internet connection to itunes, all thought that computer is and works online in everything but itunes.Any ideas anyone would be greatly appreciated!

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall for the network problem.
Also for the original problem try the following if Ana's suggestions does not work
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I have a feeling my personal Apple Laptop computer activities may be  being monitored.  I feel my Apple Laptop may have been hacked into.  I noticed suspicious item in my wastebasket that I did not remove or know what it means ("roaming password..")

I replaced my and my family's electronic phones and computers with Apple products due to their superior security capabilities, and the intgrity of their workforce.  Thus I come to you for help with a serious concern in hopes that you can help me.
Possible Hack into my personal Apple Laptop
I have a feeling my Apple Laptop has been hacked into and is being monitored.  Today I noticed that an old HP printer that we removed from our wireless setup was still connected. In my attempt to remove the old one I noticed that as I was trying to do so it seemed my actions were being shadowed and both of my printer icons (old and new printer) dissapeared. Anyway I looked in the wastebasket and noticed the following item which I had never noticed before: "roaming_password_for_1475_txt_webarchive" in the trash. As it looked suspicious I restored it onto my desktop to open it and research it and it had information on it saying, To remove the DOCOMO interTouch Cable turn on the wireless network conection on your computer....."  It had text giving my username and password for roaming - I could not copy or pirnt the information from my desktop, so I took a copy and video of it via my Apple cell phone.
Possible Hack into my personal Apple Cell Phone:
I have noticed that when I am on phone calls with certain people, my phone will emit a loud long beep.  I am involved with protecting jobs through a union, and am concerned that the county I work for may have had one of their IT people hack into my phone, etc...
Can you please help me with this? PLEASE.

    Cloud accounts are multi-platform.
You have a maximum of two activations but can use them on Win/Win or Mac/Mac or Win/Mac. The choice is yours.

Wow... you seriously over paid for an iPhone.
That probably explains why you have/had no clue you were purchasing a locked device and think it's an Apple problem to get it unlocked.

  • What is the recommended virus software for my apple laptop?

What is the recomended virus protection software for my apple laptop?

OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it updated with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email.  If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgement, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.
