Help me ditch Outlook! Apple Mail doesn't display messages for all accounts. Thoughts?

I have two IMAP accounts, both GMail. One account always shows messages (Gmail in the screenshot below) but the other usually does not. I've deleted the account, rebuilt it etc and nothing works. When I do get messages to display, as soon as I change folders then go back the messages have disappeared again.
Both accounts are set up the same way. One the account that is not working (Ruddell Consulting in the screen shot), I see the total unread message count under the Mailboxes window but the sort column and preview windows are blank. When viewing the common inbox I only see mail from one account.
I'm trying to get rid of Outlook 2011 but with the same account settings in Outlook 2011 both accounts work as expected so I'm stuck with it until I can get this resolved.
Any thoughts?Thanks!
Jim

I found the problem. Or at least a workaround. I use Google Mail and some folders in my Gmail account were causing problems for Apple Mail. I removed the folders and Mail works as it should.

    I have installed OS X Mavericks on macbook pro, macbook air & iMac but I am having terrible trouble with apple Mail. I need to take all accounts online frequently OR worse I have to quit mail and restart computer. Is anyone else having problems?

    I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
    My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Here's what I know:
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
    The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
    I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???

  • Apple Mail won't display messages in HTML

    I'm using Apple Mail on my laptop to check email from an account other than iCloud and Gmail.  I also use my iPhone and iPad to check mail from this same account.  Sometimes, newsletters are appearing in Apple Mail in plain text format, and not in HTML format.  What's unusual is that these same messages appear in HTML format on both my iPhone and iPad, so I'm guessing it's not a problem with my mail server, but with the Apple Mail application.  Are there any settings in Apple Mail to ensure I view all messages in HTML format?
    Thanks!

    Emily -
    My wife is having the same problem with her new MacBook Air. She never saw the problem on the old first-gen Air running Snow Leopard.
    Here's what's going on:
    The messages that are having the problem are encoded as multipart/alternative. That is, they contain this in the received message:
    MIME-Version: 1.0
    Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
              boundary="----=_Part_2836956_1545934347.1333570398993"
    Downstream, you'll find that boundary string whenever a new "part" begins:
    ------=_Part_2836956_1545934347.1333570398993
    Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
    This begins the first part...the plain text part. On down the stream, you'll find the part header again:
    ------=_Part_2836956_1545934347.1333570398993
    Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.=
    w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html>
    That final <html> tag begins the bulk of the HTML code to render the graphical page. The block must end with a </html> tag to indicate the end of the block...but in this message the last line is:
    <td style=3D"color: #000000; text-decoration: none; font-size: 10px; font-f=
    amily: Arial,Helve
    ...and that's it. Obviously, the last word should have been "Helvetica" but ***the message was cut off***. I know this because if I open the message source window for the the same message in the gmail section (not the inbox section) the end of the message looks like this:
    </body>
    </html>
    ------=_Part_2836956_1545934347.1333570398993--
    ...which is what I'd expect in a multipart MIME encoded message.
    The amount of data that's missing from the end appears to be about one network packet's worth. I suspect what's going on is that mail is erroneously discarding the final packet of some mail messages.
    BTW, I've taken the computer to the Genius bar, and we took the time to create a new user account and a clean mailbox and duplicated the problem there in the store. The genius was unable to recommend a solution to the problem, and suggested that I perform a reinstall-in-place of the OS. Haven't done that yet, as I consider that pretty thin gruel from the perspective of fixing the problem.
    In the meantime, I'm trying Sparrow mail as an alternative mail client. So far, I haven't seen the problem using Sparrow (nor, for that matter, on OSX Snow Leopard.)
    Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'll post back in this forum if I come up with a solution. I'll follow the thread...if anybody has any ideas what might be going on please post.

  • Scorecard doesn't display data for some selections

    Hi,
    I have configured a scorecard to display detail data (product quantities for 4 quarters) based on different parameter (product code) selection in other master scorecard. The detail dashboard doesn't display data for all the product codes. It's weird even data is there for the same product code where the scorecard is mapped in the excel however doesn't display. Appreciate if any of you can help me to overcome the issue.

    Thanks,

    Hi Anurag
    Have you taken an excel snapshot and checked if the master scorecard has the rows you expect to see in the detail sorecard?

  • Apple Mail doesn't support IMAP IDLE

    I had started using Entourage for a while just for testing since I had reacently started using a new IMAP server and I wanted to see how all the different email software behaves differently so that I can know what everyone will expect to see. Probably my favorite feature of the IMAP4rev1 protocol is IDLE. This feature gives the client the ability to stay connected to server so that the second an email comes in, it is "pushed" to the client.
    This is very different from the way that with POP3 and HTTPmail that you need to poll the server. Here's the real bummer for me though, my absolute favorite email client, Apple Mail, DOESN'T SUPPORT 'IMAP IDLE'!!!!!!!
    I beg you Apple to please realease a new version of Apple Mail that supports IDLE properly so that the client can stay connected to the IMAP server.
    Other not as important feature requests/bugs that I have:
    * CRAM-MD5 authentication on SMTP doesn't work for me in Apple Mail even though my server supports it and it works fine in other email clients
    * A three pane vertical view similar to Entourage/Outlook... It would just be a nice option
    * Ability to hide individual IMAP folders aka Unsubscribe
    * AND ONCE AGAIN PLEASE SUPPORT IDLE!!!
    Now if I have this all wrong and there is some way to turn IDLE on that is a hidden setting, someone please tell me. I'd be interested in hearing what someone from Apple has to say about this missing feature. Thank you!
    1.5GHz 15" PowerBook Aluminum   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   2GB RAM, 60GB 7200 RPM HD, SuperDrive, iSight

    No, all this does is download all of my emails and cache all of them locally (regardless of what folder they are in). I wouldn't want this to happen because I definitely have over 100MB stored on my email server.
    IDLE is something entirely different... I'm still hoping to get a reply from Apple.
    If anybody else is annoyed with this please file a feature/bug request/submit form at www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/ so that we can try to get this resolved soon via some sort of update. OS X 10.5 is still a ways away so I'd definitely like to see an update to 2.05 before we get to 3.0.

  • My Apple Mail doesn't work properly on a specific wifi network.

    When I'm on a friend's wifi network with my Macbook, Apple Mail doesn't refresh and get new mail. However, all the other internet functionality works just fine on the laptop.
    This is specifically the only wifi network that doesn't let my Apple Mail connect to Gmail. Apple mail works properly on any other wifi network.
    Are there specific network settings I need to check on the wireless router?

    Hello hi_team,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
    It's possible that your friends ISP (or perhaps even his router) is blocking the port that your email account is using to receive mail on. This port number depends on what type of account it is, whether that be IMAP, POP3, SMTP, SecurePOP3, etc. See this article for a list of common port numbers used with these different email account types.

    Other than that I don't have too many other suggestions, but I'm sure somebody else will.

  • Help: Trying to get Apple Mail to be my client program with GMail

    I've used Apple Mail (OS 10.4.10) as my email program for Comcast Mail. I am dropping our Comcast service soon and picking up GMail as my primary email program. I want to use the Apple Mail program to pick up my mail from the GMail server. According to GMail I can do this. I followed all of the directions on the GMail site but still can't get test emails to show up in my Apple Mail inbox. I've sent test emails several times with no luck. All they do is show up in my GMail inbox and not in the Apple Mail inbox.

    Assuming you’ve configured the account correctly both in Mail and on the web, from which account have you sent the test messages that Mail doesn’t download?
    Gmail POP access doesn’t work like a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies (#6 could be what you’re observing):
    1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
    2. To make already downloaded messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which causes everything (and I mean everything) still on the server to be downloaded again.
    3. The Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP > When messages are accessed with POP setting alone. In the case of Gmail (and only in that case), I recommend turning OFF Remove copy from server in Mail, so that Mail doesn’t even try to remove any messages from the server, regardless of whether you do actually want already downloaded messages to be removed from the server after some time or not.
    4. Messages sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were received messages. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent — as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want.
    5. Messages sent using a POP/SMTP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in #4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. Since they’re on the server nonetheless, already sent messages would be downloaded together with all the other messages on the server if proceeding as described in #2.
    6. A particular case of #5 are messages sent to yourself. Instead of putting a copy of the sent message in the server’s Inbox and making it available for download, both the sent and the “received” message on the server are actually one and the same, and hence, cannot be downloaded via POP for the reason explained in #5.
    7. Gmail allows POP accounts to be set up in a special way that avoids some of these issues while introducing others. If you only need POP access to the last 30 days of mail, you can configure Mail in “recent mode”, as described in How should I use POP on mobile or multiple devices?, i.e. by typing “recent:” (including the colon but not the quotes) at the beginning of the User Name field (not in the Email Address field) in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information. Configuring the account this way would allow Mail to download messages marked by Gmail as already downloaded (and download messages sent to yourself in particular), but it would also cause all sent messages (not just messages sent to yourself or through webmail) to be downloaded as if they were received messages.

  • Apple Mail 4.4 Automatically Deleting from ALL Mailboxes! Help?

    All of a sudden I noticed my Apple mail is deleting any messages older than roughly sixty days -- not just in my INBOX, SENT box either, this is in ALL my email boxes, including the folders I've made that live under the "On The Mac" section of my mail.
    This is VERY strange. Anyone else having this trouble? I can't have this happening as I really need that history! Help! Thanks!!
    Monica Ricci

    Welcome to the discussions, Lesterj2.
    A smart mailbox is like having a filter or a view of your messages - the messages remain with all the others (typically in your inbox) but the conditions on your smart box restict you to seeing the subset of messages that match the condition. There is never actually anything in the smart box - delete something that you see there and you are deleting the original.
    Where is you inbox? If you are downloading messages to an inbox on your Mac then they should remain there until you remove them. If your inbox is on AOL, I don't know, not being an AOL user.

  • Transferred mail doesn't display "most recent" messages in iOS3

    I just setup a brand new Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server and began transferring mail from offline mailboxes to the IMAP structure on the server. This works fine in Apple Mail, as it displays the entire message list and keeps a local cache. However, this does not work properly on my iPad, iPhone or those same iDevices belonging to my colleagues.
    Instead, it displays a seemingly "random" list of 200 messages rather than the "most recent" messages.
    An extensive search of Apple Discussions yielded three very similar cases, all seeming to involve the transfer of mail from one server to another with similar results (errors).

    What do you mean by that exactly? Only the plain text version is displayed?

    Awesome.  Rebooting the phone worked.  I had never turned the phone off before (for the next guy - you hold down the "sleep" button for longer than you'd think and that'll do a full shutdown).  thank you for your help.

    Hi,
    I've come across this problem in which Lion mail doesn't allow shortcuts for bold and italics. I try pressing the short cut for Command + B or Command + I
    but it does not affect the text at all. I have to move my cursor to the Bold or Italic icon to change a particular word's form.
    Of note, Command + U allows me to underline a word just fine. I also write my mail in the default Helvetica, and in size 12.
    Anyone know of a solution? I'm pretty sure it's just a glitch, but it's become a great annoyance for me.

  • Apple Mail is cc'ing me on all new sent messages

    A couple of days ago, my wife's Apple Mail started cc'ing her on all new messages she sent. When looking at a copy of one of the cc'd messages, it looks like she actually forwarded it to herself, which she did not. We have checked her rules and she doesn't have any, save for the Apple RSS feed rules that were originally set up with Mail.
    We would be most grateful for any assistance that anyone could provide with this enquiry.

    Have you checked Mail Preferences > Composing > "Automatically cc myself"?

    Any clue, how i can add a mail account to apple mail app, but with separate password / pin to open it.
    Years ago there was a program called mail switcher which added this functionality, but thats gone.
    cheers
    Tom

    They would have to be logged in as separate users in order not to see your account in Mail. Whatever accounts put in Mail under your account will show up. All mail accounts usually have there own user and password. The only thing you can do is to remove the password from Keychain and take the account offline so you don't keep getting prompts for passwords each time it checks for mail.
    Not a great solution.
    Best way is to give the other user their own user account with their own mail and enable fast user swithcing to log between the different users if all access the computer frequently.

  • Outlook 2007 .ost file corrupt / scanpst.exe 3-4x daily & 3 to 4 runs before "clean", long term issue - need help on how to repair my .OST FILE once and for all, please...

    I've had many issues with my .ost data file (couple years) with:  very slow going into outlook 2007, scanpst.exe 3-4x before its "clean", and have to run it few times daily.
    No major issues i can pinpoint, but just SLOW, hangs at times, file less than 1GB, IT people just mess it up more, etc.
    NEED some PROFESSIONAL minds to help me get this data file cleaned up once and for all... forever hopefully.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Why the need to repair it?
    You could:
    1. Create a new Outook profile a different name and a new ost will be created ( leaving the old one there)
    2. Close up Outlook completely, delete the existing.ost and re-open Outlook to create a new one.
    3. Close Outlook completely and rename the existing .ost and re-open Outlook to create a new one.

  • Apple Mail 7.3 - Always re-synchronizes all IMAP folders

    I've been going back and forth with Apple Mail, changing clients every so often (Postbox, AirMail, whichever) when I get frustrated with Apple Mail (post-Mavericks update).
    Anyways, with the Version 7.3 (1878.2) build, I figured I would give it another try to see if they've finally squashed enough bugs to make it useable.
    Why (why why why why) is the software consistently trying to synchronize every single IMAP folder I have in my gmail account?  Every time I open Mail and then check out the activity window, you see it consistently entereing and exiting IDLE states, trying to synchronize my many folders (I like to store and keep many parent/child folders).
    Because it is consistently doing this over and over, when I go to file a message and it dissapears from my inbox, I can click away from the inbox and click right back to it, and my message comes right back (because it hasn't been processed yet due to the other activities going on with sync'ing).
    I consider myself fairly proficient with self-servicing my mac woes, but this one has me stumped.  Is Mail being extremely inefficient, or is this user-er
    TIA
    Mark

    Apple Mail has always done this for IMAP accounts and not just for GMail either. I have one particular user - the boss (of course), who has a huge email account with many folders on the server, this user (of course) is also prone to clicking on many messages and folders and doing in rapid succession many moves, deletes and replies, this along with the massive resyncing of folders brings Mail to its knees. The boss will then unfairly blame the server, the Internet connection, the computer, etc. when it is the awful design of Mail at fault.
