Help me-Export HDV to WHATEVER looks like utter garbage!

Hi,
I'm currently on FCP Studio 2, latest software updates, Tiger, PowerMac Dual Core G5.
I'm editing HDV 1080/50i material. Like all HDV, there's a few spots where you can see chroma noise but overall the footage looks quite good.
Now, what I used to do (in FCP 4.5 and 5) is export to Uncompressed HD 25p 1920X1080 and use that as my master for whatever later compression/tape dubs I would need to do. That workflow was excellent and my Uncompressed HD master was 100% to my HDV footage in my FCP timeline.
Now, first of all, I don't seem to have Uncompressed HD anymore in FCP, only Uncompressed PAL/NTSC which defaults to SD resolution. Second, no matter WHAT I use, the video that comes out look like garbage. The whole frame is littered with gigantic squares and colors look lie, a bad gif. I did exports to targa image sequences and they are the same.
What the ****, is this normal with FCP 6?! Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks

Paul Riggott does not visit here these day and his site was hacked his new site is http://www.ps-bridge-scripts.talktalk.net/
He has many fine scripts there some for saving layer to files.  One ot them may do what you want. It also may depend on how adjustment layers would be saved to a file for they don't contain pixels all the is in and adjustment is data I believe what type of adjustment should be made and the setting are recorded in the layer.

  • HDV - H.264 looks like poo.  Help!

I've been fighting with this for days now.
I have 1080i HDV (1440x1080i30) and have an excellent finished demo which I layed back to tape and played out to a big LCD. Looks awesomme. Now I want it on my web site.
So I took the finished file and tried exporting H.264 with QuickTime player at 720x480 16:9. The motion clearly has ragged edges from the interlacing that I want to get rid of. So I go in and make a few manual tweaks, including clicking the obvious "deinterlace" button. But now, the image has a "ghost" on all motion. It didn't get rid of one of the fields, it averaged both fields so now the entire video looks blurry when there's motion. Ugh.
So I went into Compressor and fought with that for a couple days. The deinterlace in compressor is perfect. Absolutely beautiful. But the overall video quality is poo. Absolutely dreadful. I get a sparkly, edge around, well, anything, that has lots of random noise- as if I used some sort of special Photoshop filter to achieve this, but, no matter what I change, interlace, frame size, data rate... it's always there to some extent. So Compressor is useless.
Today, I'm back working with QuickTime player and again achieve the same exact results. the De-interlace button does do something, but it doesn't de-interlace. I get okay results at around 2000 kbps. They all get a bit blurry at 1200. 800 is unusable. 3000 is real nice, but I think may be too much for some viewers of my site.
Can anyone explain how to get QT Player to do de-interlacing correctly... or how to get Compressor to not look like poo at the same data rates that QT Player looks fine.

HI IEBA1, Try this.. it worked for me when I had my HVR-Z1P.
    1) INGEST the clips into FCP as APPLE PRORES 422 else take the clips from your imported bin and batch convert them to APPLE PRORES 422.
    2) work your sequences in APR422.
    3) in FCP export as a quicktime reference movie
    4) COMPRESSOR:
    • add a batch +n
    • add your reference movie (in APR422)
    • add a custom setting .. call it H264720x48029fps or something you like
    5) in the compressor/ inspector, do the following:
    • ENCODER: select FORMAT = QUICKTIME
    • VIDEO settings select h.264 as the codec, a retsurcted bit rate.. suggest 500-800Kbs (+vary to taste+) and MULTIPASS
    • GEOMETRY: select FRAME SIZE 720x480 or what ever you need.
    • optionally FRAME CONTROLS - click ON in little wheel gear and select *OUTPUT FIELD* as PROGRESSIVE
    Save this custom template.
Apply this to you new batch
USe PREVIEW (+2) and scrib through the PREVIEW using the ORGINAL vs the ENCODE quality divider to examine your encode BEFORE you submit it.
TWeak the above to visual taste including the DATA RATE (bit rate)
    when OK submit to COMPRESSOR.
REpeat until you like what you see.

  • Help regarding designing a plotter which looks like a graph sheet

    Hi all,
I have to design a plotter which could open encapsulated post script (eps) files and adobe illustrator(ai) files. For a while, lets ignore eps and ai files. The plotter should look like a graph sheet where i can modify the files, enlarge them or modify their size.
I have gone through a few models that I found in google but didn't found any of them much useful.
Expecting to get some kind of help here. Can anybody please give some clues and hints to design the plotter? I'ld be very much thankful.
I'll provide any kind of details regarding it if you feel are necessary.

    Hi
Crystal Reports selcetion of two database fields in On change of.
    But there is a workaround:
    Try the below:
    - Create a formula field and put
    class room database field &" " & wing database field;
-Use this formula field and Bulding database field in On change of records.
You would get all three together.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Exported jpg doesn't look like what I see in LR

I am stuck on this one problem and am hoping you folks can help out.
I have an image I've beenworking on in LR and PSE.  It looks good in LR, but when I export it to a jpg, my last round of changes aren't saved.  The image that's exported is grainier and has less contrast, both of which were things I changed in LR.
I'm careful to save the changes to the metadata before doing the export.  I'm not running into this problem with any other images.  Can anyone help?

If this is reproducible, you should report it as a bug at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family#problem
Exporting at 100% is a workaround to a problem that shouldn't exist.

I am getting ads provided by http://help.kijiji.net/ca/knowledgebase.php?article=40 that appear as highlighted links in text on various websites. This is very annoying. How do I block these?
Currently, these ads appear to be solely for usinsuranceonline.com, but they appear multiple times per page- I mean, 20 or 30 times!
Is there an adblocker for this?

This is not a virus or a problem with my computer, it is a paid-for advertisement inserted into the text of the website, provided by kijiji.net.

You can see the list of your previously installed extension in the System Details List attached to your first post.
Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs each time you start Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

  • Help!! Brand new Samsung looks like i'm watching in infrared

i'm only plugged in using a coaxial cable right now and i have tried plugging the cable, DVD player and WII and get the same color results.  the audio is fine.  anyone know if it's me or if i have to take this tv all the way back and wait on line for 2 hours to exchange it.  THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

Hard to say without actually seeing the tv. Strange that it would do that out of the box though. Maybe get a hold of samsung and ask them what it could it be. Or maybe try re setting the tv and see if that works.
I don't think speakers would matter, I don't think plasma is susceptable to magnetic fields and I know lcd isn't. I think that is a problem with crt tv's because of how the cathode ray tube works.
Before exchanging the tv try re setting it to the defualt values and see what happens.
What model number tv did you get? Maybe someone can research the problem for you.

  • Help with exporting. Video looks horrible after export, but great when in premiere pro

Hey guys, looking for some advice on exporting.
When I finish a video, the color and everything looks great while in premiere pro, but after exporting it, the color ends up looking dull and the whole video looks blurry.  I'm filming with a canon vixia hf200 at 60i. It imports as a AVCHD file, I deinterlace it, and then export at the Vimeo HD settings. What can be causing the video to look horrible after exporting? What settings should I be exporting under? Any help would be appreciated!

It looks like you're coming up against some of the colorspace handling issues that the Premiere pipeline has.
Since your source is 60i AVCHD it's HD and thus rec709 colorspace. If it gets encoded with the standard rec601 colorspace (SD sizes are this) then all the colors get crushed. Look for a "709" and "601" radio button in your export settings. If it's not there you're out of luck.
The "blurry" is probably a poor quality de-interlacer. If Vimeo permits interlaced vs progressive do that instead. it's always cleaner to stay in the same video format all the way through.
    TECHNICAL ASIDE:
rec709 is a triangle of possible colors that can be expressed by mixing of ratios of 3 emitters (the R G B corners of the triangle). (they are the RGB phosphors of a CRT and now LCD pixel elements)
rec709 is a bigger triangle than rec601 so it's capable of more colors. but if you accidently map that triangle's corners to the coordinates of rec601 it gets crushed.
In photography the "sRGB" uses the rec709 triangle. A bigger triangle that that is "Adobe RGB". So if you work in Adobe RGB and export to sRGB without conversion the colors get crushed because sRGB in inside the triangle of "Adobe RGB".

  • Please help: render doesn't look like preview

    Hello everybody,
maybe this is a stupid question, but I'm a new user and I'm really confused.
To cut it short, I'm editing a video in Premiere CS5 and everything looks nice when I'm working: preview window shows everything just the way I want it to look like.
But when I render (I tried different export types, from avi to mp4 to mov, always the same result) transparency is messed up: I can't even explain it, so I will post two images.
This is how my psd logo with transparency looks like in preview window:
    The outer glow is perfect.
But when I export the timeline it looks like this:
I have the same problem with imported movs with transparency.
Does anybody know what is the problem and how I can fix it?
    Many thanks in anticipation.

Thanks you too, Colin, you gave me a useful hint even tho it worked inversely.
I had to disable Maximum Render Quality to make it render correctly!
Thanks to the both of you, anyway, problem solved!

  • All I get on web pages is the letter "A" it looks like a keyboard button.

Not all the type but most on some pages is just a keyboard button looking letter "A".
    I'm assuming it's a font issue but I don't know for sure.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Michael

    Hi Michael --
Does it look like capital A's in boxes?
Here's great help, According to our font expert here, Kurt Lang --
+A’s with boxes around them is always a sign of trouble with the main system+
    +font, Lucida Grande.+
+Quick possible fix is to remove ALL font cache files from the system to see+
+if it's just bad cache data. For that, you need to use OnyX or other utility+
+which will remove both system and user cache files. A Safe Mode boot won't+
+work since it only removes cache data from the user account you do a safe+
    +boot to.+
+If after that the problem returns, then Lucida Grande itself is damaged and+
    +needs to be replaced.+

  • Need help exporting HDV 1080i60 - please help!

OK, I'm a video editor, and I've been cutting standard-def stuff for years now. I've literally just started editing HDV material. Here's my problem:
-Imported HDV 1080i60 footage from a Sony V1U camera, via firewire.
-Edited the project natively, in HDV 1080i60 sequences, everything went smoothly. Playback looks great, everything is swell.
-Exported MPEg2 for DVD delivery, and again, everything looks great.
-When I export the sequence using either Compressor or Export to Quicktime, using the HDV 1080i60 settings, the resulting Quicktime clip cannot playback without stuttering. It's a 20 minute clip - the resulting Quicktime file is about 5GB. The video quality is fine - but I can't get it to play back without the stutter. It basically looks like I'm trying to play a video file without sufficient RAM. But I doubt that's the case. I've got 4GB of RAM, and like I said, the video plays fine in Final Cut Pro.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to deliver the final Quicktime file to my client on a hard drive, so they can playback the HD material on their own computer. Thanks in advance!

I think what is going on is that your machine doesn't have the horsepower to play the QT file back without dropping frames. Your client's machine will probably have the same problem. FCP degrades its display without dropping frames to maintain speed, QT always attempts full resolution, and drops frames to compensate.
Check the playback frame rate in the Quicktime viewer. If it is anything less than 30FPS, QT is dropping frames to maintain real time audio playback. The solution is to create a more forgiving movie.
Try 720p24, for the most benign files. These will even play on a Mac Mini without stuttering.

I have an ipad 2 and I noticed I have over 3000 emails in All Mail. I want to know how can I delete these emails. It looks like you can only do it one at a time. It will take me forever. Please help me.

You can only delete them one at a time on the iPad. If you have an IMAP email account, go to your email in on the server using a web browser and select as many as you can at a time and delete them that way. That action will be reflected on the iPad. In IMAP - whatever you do on one device syncs across all devices. If you have POP email - start deleting one at a time.

  • Export from AVCHD looks like THIS: (image embedded) I've tried EVERYTHING

I'm using a Sony HDR-XR500V and importing using Apple Inter. Codec 1920x1080i60 in log and transfer and in "Canvas" in FCE, it looks GREAT, the motion is perfect.
However, no matter how I export (this was Export with Quicktime, uncompressed, size 1920x1080, but I've tried EVERYTHING) it looks like this. In Quicktime, I can hit "de-interlace" but it ghosts instead. I've tried de-interlace in exporting too.
In the original AVCHD files, and in Canvas on FCE, I can read the writing on everything, and I have not yet been able to export in any format where I can read the writing on the stones.
The exported files look like this on my PC as well... HELP!
PS... this was an image export from QT.

Well, as I said, it's not like that in the original AVCHD files, nor is it like that in the Canvas on FCE, so what do you mean when you say "That's the way the material is shot."?
I'm exporting my edited project to a file so I can stream it to my Sony Bravia TV in 1080.
