Help Me Find My Missing Songs!!

Hi,
My iTunes library is stored on an external hard drive... once I used my usb data stick (for work) My PC automatically re-named my hard drive from a G to H and now my iTunes cannot find any of my songs without me browsing for them!
This is a real problem!
I managed to tell my PC to search for songs in the new location (ie the H drive) but still, loads of songs and albums cannot be found!
Can anyone help me ?!?! with over 13,000 songs I can't go and re-import them one by one! It'll take years!
Thanks
Chris

Chris,
Don't quote me on this but here is a possible solution to your problem.
First get all your music files from your usb data stick or external hard drive and copy/cut (your choice) and paste the songs into your itunes music folder.
Once thier in your itunes music folder drag and drop them into your itunes library.
If that doesn't work
Take all your songs off of your usb data or your external hard drive stick and place them on your desktop.
Once the songs are on your desktop, drag and drop them into iTunes.
Once the songs are in iTunes go to Advanced> Consolidate Libary
(this takes all of your music files and places them into the iTunes music folder.)
Then you can take all of your music files and place them in a folder in your my music folder.
Again I cant guarantee this will work if it doesn't you will just have to import your songs the long way.
Also when all your music works you should make a back-up disc in iTunes that way if your computer crashes you can just insert the backup disc and it will restore all of your iTunes music, podcasts, games for your iPod, and movies.

  • When trying to locate songs in my iTunes library, often when I find the song it asks me if I would like it to find other missing files. Sometimes it can't find other missing songs. How do I make sure that it is looking at all of my hard dirves?

  • How to get iTunes to find all missing songs which are in the library

iTunes keeps telling me it can't find around 150 songs and I have to manually point it to each folder - it offers to use location to find other missing tracks but that only works for songs in the same album folder, not other artists/albums. Is there something I can do to find all songs at once?

    Hi,
Try Doug's Applescripts for iTunes, he has one for finding missing songs.

You can browse his site to find where to put the downloaded script.
    Good luck.

  • How to find more missing songs

I recently upgraded from G5 to Macbook, and transfered my music to the Macbook iTunes 9.2.1 and also transfered over my playlists.
I just went to play a playlist and some tracks were missing and had an exclamation point beside them.
I checked in the iTunes music folder on the Macbook, and there were indeed gone.
    I've re-copied them over from the G5
    but now I'm wondering
    1) How can I find out which other songs are missing? The exclamation point only appeared why I tried to play the songs, it didn't tell me they were missing till I tried to play them.
    2) Why would the songs be missing??
    Thanks for your help

    you could try this script:
_*Music Folder Files Not Added v2.0*_
This application will list the file paths of the files in your designated "iTunes Media" folder which are not in iTunes' library. Additionally, you can select a different parent folder and its contents will be compared to the iTunes library. Options to Add a selection of found files to iTunes or move them to the Trash.
    another option is this one:
    _*iTunes Track CPR v1.3*_
This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx)."

  • Can you help me find my missing albums?

I am an artist on iTunes. I have contacted iTunes support but have heard nothing back. Two of my albums, Peaceful Solo Piano from the Heart and Solo Piano for Love, Peace & Mermaids have disappeared from my catalogue both online and in iTunes. Here is the online link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/louis-landon/id5162009. If I search for each of the two missing albums, they are still available, but they are no longer connected with my name as an artist. They used to be there. Does anyone know who to contact or what can be done?
    Thanks!

The iPod must be turned on and connected to the internet to show up in iCloud, so if the battery is dead there is nothing anyone can do to help find it.

  • Please help me find my missing loop!

I have a song I made a while ago that wants to load a loop named "*WM Latin Shaker.aif*", but I can't find it anywhere. It's driving me nuts, I really want to work with that piece.
Since I made the song with GB I've installed Logic Express then Logic Pro, so I would think I should have everything, but this puppy is nowhere to be found. Couple of other loops have gone missing on me, too. Yarg.
Can anyone tell me where this might have come from originally? I fear it may have been in one of the now-unavailable Jam Pack samplers that used to be up on .Mac, which I have not kept. Or maybe it's on an earlier version of GB, the disk of which I can still dig up. So it may be somewhere on my drive or in my apartment and I would dearly love to track it down!
    TIA...
    Mark

Yeah, I figured the "WM" prefix was from its name in a sampler pack (all of which I definitely did download once) but there's nothing called "Latin Shaker" in the full World Music pack (or what came with Logic Pro 8, which I assume is the same collection). The loop may be in there somewhere, under another name, but even if it is, I can only hear what I'm seeking in a bounced-down stereo recording and it's difficult to perceptually isolate that one loop out in a fairly heavily layered piece. Which would make it hard for me to recognize even if I found it! I'm kicking myself right now for making a point of purging my loop collection of the sampler stuff once I got the whole shebang with Logic.
Do you (or anyone else) know if the same loops have worn different names in different versions of the jam packs? If so, any chance there's a reference doc somewhere that gives the translations?
Oh, and do you know if by any chance those free sampler packs are still available somewhere? I'm a MobileMe member and they're not on the iDisk where they used to be.
    Thanks for the response, Christoph.

  • Can someone help me find some missing features?

There are quite a few features that I am unable to find in Leopard. Can someone please help figure out where they went or how to work around the following:
In iCal you can no longer open the Info Drawer to allow you to see the details of your events as you click through them.
Previously it only required one click to view Event info and 2 clicks to make an edit.
Now it takes 2 clicks to see info which pops up a window with the details in it.
Furthermore it takes 4 clicks to make an edit. 2 clicks (double click) to open the popup window, one click on the Edit button then a click on the item you want to edit. Plus one more to get rid of the info window. It only took 2 clicks in the Tiger version.
Or you can press the Escape key after you make an edit which commits the edit. Doesn't the Escape key usually mean Cancel? It does everywhere else I've ever used it.
    Also:

Gone. Mac OS 9 has been dead for quite some time; Apple just got around to burying the corpse. If you need Mac OS 9, use SheepShaver.
    Dock - position top
    Still a hack.
Dock - hierarchical menus for folders
Gone, sadly. Hopefully they'll bring this back in a later update.
    Finder - draggable window edges
The top and bottom bars are still draggable. Left-side and right-side window borders have been removed throughout Mac OS X.
    Finder - collapsible sidebar
You can click on the little pill in the top-right corner.
Finder - change permissions of your own files without admin privileges
Finder - set the current folder as the default search location
Finder - use "Spacebar" to select the first alphabetical item in any window
I didn't even know that existed. Regardless, space bar is now bound to Quick Look, so unless you can change it in System Preferences's keyboard section, you might be out of luck.
Finder - set the current folder as the default search location
It's in the Search bar, when you start a search. It's displayed in quotes. (This should really be the default, IMO.)
General - choice of colour for Apple menu icon (useful for flagging "root")
This has never existed in Mac OS X.
General - Ctrl-Eject Restart/Sleep/Shutdown dialogue (now only "Sleep" and "Cancel")
I got all four options when I tried it just now.
General - default high contrast menubar suitable for visually challenged
    Not sure about this one.
    rc.shutdown - though there's probably an equivalent I haven't figured out yet
Netinfo Manager - There is no equivalent GUI App to perform the tasks that Netinfo Manger used to
NetInfo has been removed from 10.5 (probably to achieve the UNIX 03 certification; good riddance, I say). A few features have GUI replacements in Directory Utility, but the rest have been delegated to Directory Services. You'll have to use the Terminal to access most of DS.

  • HELP me find my purchased songs off the iTunes app.

I bought them off the iTunes app.. had to restore the iPod and now its no where to be found. Is there any way I can get the songs back without purchasing them again?

You may want to ask iTunes support if they would allow you to download them again, It is worth a try. Explain your situation.

  • Can't find most iTunes songs?

I am running iTunes 10.1.2 on a Mac, and most of my files are invalid.
When I click on a song, a window pops up that says "the song X could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" This happens for songs I have downloaded from the iTunes store as well as albums I have downloaded off CD. I looked in Finder- Music - iTunes - iTunes Music and there are about 8 albums in there that are remaining, most of them recent downloads, one CD recently imported.
I don't have Time Machine working on this computer. My 4 year old son likes to play in iTunes and my wife decided that we have too many downloads, so she emptied the download folder in the Finder and then emptied the trash.
Please help, I don;t know where to go from here, the Apple support only got me as far as finding the iTunes Music folder.
    Thanks!

    Hmmm,
    I'd get EasyFind...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11076
Use it to search your whole drive for case insensitive & show invisibles for something like...
    .mp3
(dot em pee three) or whatever type they were.
Does that find any missing songs?
Any chance the missing ones were in the Downloads folder?

  • Missing song projects

I have started using Logic X but I want to find and old song project in Garageband 11 and transfer it to Logic.
I have searched all areas I can think of but can't find this missing song project. It shows up as an exported mp3 in Itunes but thats the best I can get. I am sure I have not deleted the original song project.?????
    Any ideas please.

Then try the ultimate search tool "Find Any File".
    You can download it here.
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.htmlhttp://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
It is "Donation Ware".The Trial is free. If you like it, pay what you think is adequate.
Find Any File will search areas of your Mac, that Spotlight and Finder search will exclude.
Search for any part of the filename or the extension ".band". You may have misspelled the filename, so that searching for a part of the name will help.

  • Find multiple missing files

I've spent the last few days trying to clean up my music collection (get rid of duplicates, consolidate everything, etc) and I now have a lot of missing files in my iTunes library. I was able to retrieve my complete library from my iPhone via PhoneTrans, but reading them into the library only gives me new duplicates (most of which lack any information, since PhoneTrans doesn't seem to grab any of the data other than the title). A little bit of Googling tells me that previous versions of iTunes had an option to find other missing songs based on the location of another one, but that doesn't seem to be in existence anymore.  Any advice?

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
Consolidating and deduplicating by hand are also likely to have caused problems. If you still have duplicates in the library along with matching tracks that can be located then see Re: How to delete multiple duplicates of multiple songs?
If you have to resort to trying to pull back the library from your device see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
Note that files in .wav form don't carry a tag. Most recovery processes will only get a track name derived from the filename if .wav files are reimported to the library.

  • Upgraded to 3.1.3, now I am missing songs?

I recently upgraded to the 3.1.3 version of the software. It worked okay for a few days (after I figured out how to get the wifi working again) but then I downloaded a podcast directly onto the iTouch and when it was done I got a message saying the Library was being updated. Took a few minutes and when it was done, any song that I had ripped from a CD (about 800 songs), not bought directly from the Apple Store, was not showing up. However the amount of memory used hasn't gone down so I believe they must be there somewhere?
I'm traveling so I won't have a chance to re-sync with the iTunes on my laptop for a couple of weeks (and even when I can, I'm afraid I won't be able to as I will not have enough memory). Anything I can do in the meantime to get my songs back? If not, how can I resync if it is still using up all that memory?

Well, if you're on the road and away from your home computer, it probably wasn't a good idea to do an OS update. But that's behind you now, so to recover you'll have to try a few things.
1- Find a computer with iTunes (preferably the same version you normally use) and connect your Touch, but if you have your Touch set to start syncing automatically you'll need to stop the auto-sync before it starts, otherwise you'll have a lot more problems. I find the easiest way to prevent an auto-sync is to hole the Ctrl and Shift keys as you connect the Touch, and keep holding those keys until the Touch shows up in the iTunes Source column.
2- Once you get the Touch in view, select the "Manually manage music and video" option and then click the "Apply" button (lower-right corner).
3- Click on the small triangle to the left of your Touch to expand its contents. Select the Music category and see if you can find the missing songs (you probably can't, but might as well check).
4- Assuming you can't find the missing songs, look for a 3rd party software application that let's you extract your Touch's contents to the host computer. With any luck you'll be able to pull the missing songs off, but you may not be able to tell which songs are from CDs and which are not, so you may have to pull everything off. Ultimately the songs you extract from your Touch will have to be added to the host computer's iTunes library, then transferred back to your Touch (manually, not auto-sync).
    Good luck!

  • IOS 7 problems finding songs, playlist missing songs

I had a playlist that included several songs from a particular artist but since upgrading from iOS 6.1.3 I can only see one of the tracks remaining. The other songs appear to be removed and searching for missing songs/parent album/artist does not produce any results at all.
The songs are still on the iPhone and I can navigate to them, but only as follows:
Play the one surviving track from this artist/album still in my playlist.
Switch to 'now playing' to select other tracks on the album, including the missing playlist items that Music Search can't find.
It seems like an indexing problem. I'll try removing all the music and resyncing from iTunes and reply with the results. Maybe this will help someone else...
Running iOS 7.0.2 on iPhone 5 64GB. Problem has been present since iOS 7.0.0
    Music ~= 20-30GB on iPhone.

Third update (sync takes hours so I can only do this once a day...)
    iTunes 11.1.1 did not help.
I deleted all music on the device from Settings > Usage > Music > Edit > Delete (which, incidentally, took two attempts before it actually deleted it).
Then I performed a clean sync of my selected playlists again (about 5800 songs)
The sync completed but the iphone was still missing over 1500 songs.
I tried another sync immediately. The process stayed on 'waiting to apply changes' for about 15 minutes, then completed. A few more songs were sync'd but it was still missing 1400+ songs.
The playlist with missing songs was still missing some tracks, but different ones this time. To test if the playlist was the problem I deleted all music from the iPhone again and sync'd just two playlists, including the problematic one. It sync'd all tracks on both playlists, so it doens't appear to be the playlist that is breaking the sync.
I will try one last attempt by restoring the phone as a new device then syncing all my playlists before reapplying the backup data. If that still doesn't work then there is clearly a problem with the sync process that previously worked fine on earlier versions of iOS / iTunes.
