    Hi,
I have download all three filez and gunzip and cpio all the filez and put them under my /home/daniel/Disk(1,2,3) And afterwards, I go into the /Disk1/install/linux and run the runInstaller.sh script....or runInstaller. nothing happen. Could anyone give me a hint on how to install Oracle?? thanx....

Try running setup from a cmd prompt after you've temporarily cleared out any path or Java related environment settings (e.g. set Path = ""). This sometimes helps.

  • HELP! Can not install Oracle 8.1.5 w/ RedHat 6.1!

I can not get Oracle 8.1.5 to install onto Linux RedHat 6.1. The
Oracle installation script generates several errors. I have
tried several attempts, using different options, but they all
    generate errors.
Please help. The Oracle Installation scripts appear to be very
buggy... or perhaps they are incompatible with the standard
RedHat 6.1 release. Either way, it is very frustrating.
I have documented one of my (failed) installation attempts below.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
I am installing Oracle onto a Dell Latitude CPi PC w/ 128MB RAM,
a 366MHz Pentium II, and RedHat 6.1 (using the standard Linux
2.2.12-2 kernel). RedHat was installed using the standard "Gnome
    Workstation" configuration.
    The Oralce CD is labeled:
    "Oralce 8i Enterprise Edition
    Release 8.1.5
    for Linux
    (c) Oracle Corporation 1999"
I got this CD about one week ago at Oracle OpenWorld '99 in Los
Angeles... it should be their "latest & greatest" version so far.
    1. Pre-Installation and ./runInstall
I created an "oracle" Unix account w/ groups "oinstall" (the
primary group) and "dba" (a secondary group).
I created directories /u01 through /u04, belonging to oracle.
I setup .cshrc and sourced it, containing:
    umask 022
    setenv DISPLAY `hostname`:0
    xhost +
    setenv ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle
    setenv ORACLE_HOME ${ORACLE_BASE}/product/8.1.5
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest
    setenv PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:${PATH}
    setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib
    setenv NLS_LANG US7ASCII
    I downloaded jre116_v5 and installed to /usr/local/jre.
Finally, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /mnt/cdrom
    ./runInstall
Problem: I got the error (from ./runInstall):
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.
    Please wait...
    Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
    : Bad address
Workaround: Executed the following commands instead:
    cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
    ./runIns.sh
    3. runIns.sh and root.sh
I selected the following options (from ./runIns.sh):
    Source: /mnt/cdrom/stage/products.jar
    Destination: /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.5.0.0
    Typical (585MB)
Installable Components: Oralce Intelligent Agent 8.1.5.0.0
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
    Directory for Database Files: /u02
Then (when instructed by ./runIns.sh), I attempted to execute
    (from the
    "root" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    ./root.sh
    Problem: I got the error:
    "bash: ./root.sh: Permission denied"
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x root.sh
    ./root.sh
    5. Configuration Tools
The Oracle Installer (./runIns.sh) attempted to execute:
    A. Net8 Configuration Agent
    B. Oracle Database Configuration Agent
Problem: The "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" failed with
    the following error message:
"One or more tools have failed. It is recommended but not
required that these tools succeed for this installation.
You can now select these tools, read its details to examine
why they have failed, fix those problems, and retry them.
Or, you can click "Next" to continue."
When I selected the "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" for
more info, I got the following additional details (as the cause
    of the error):
"A required command line argument is missing."
    The log file
    "/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log" recorded:
"Command which is being spawned is /usr/local/jre/bin/jre
    -Duser.dir=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/assistants/dbca/jlib

    failed"
Workaround: There is obviously nothing I can do to fix this
problem. It appears to be an internal bug in ./runIns.sh.
Therefore, I selected "Next" and executed "dbassist" directly.
    6. dbassist
    I executed:
    dbassist
Problem: I got the following error:
    "JNLS Execution:oracle.ntpg.jnls.JNLSException
Unable to find any National Character Sets. Please
    check your Oracle installation."
Workaround: Press "OK" and ignore the error.
    7. dbassist (cont.)
    I selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
Copy existing database files from the CD
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
Problem: I got the following error:
"CD-ROM drive not detected on this system.
    Database not created."
(Note: I've been running the installation scripts from the
CDROM drive this entire time. "df" shows the CDROM drive
mounted on /mnt/cdrom. "ls /mnt/cdrom" works too.)
Workaround: Abort (which generated the additional error: "Unable
to create database. DBCA-00003: No CD-ROM drive detected.") and
run dbassist again, this time using different parameters.
    8. dbassist, again
I executed "dbassist" again and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and iM demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest2.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest2
    Create database now
Problem: I got the following error:
    "ORA-01012: not logged on"
    Workaround: Try, try again.
    9. dbassist, one last time
Executed "dbassist" once more and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and interMedia
    demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest3.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest3
    Output creation script
Then, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/install
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest3
    ./sqlcprtest3.sh
Problem: I got the following output:
"Oracle Server Manager Release 3.1.5.0.0 - Production
    (c) Copyright 1997, Oracle Corporation. All Rights Reserved.

    SVRMGR> Disconnected."
    Workaround: Beats me.
    10. sqlplus
I attempted to execute sqlplus, but got the following error
    message:
    "/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/bin/sqlplus: Permission denied."
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/bin/sqlplus
    sqlplus
I gave up for now... there were just too many things wrong with
this installation, starting with the very first command I was
    supposed to execute (./runInstaller).
I can't fathom why Oracle's installation script has so many bugs.
Am I just doing something terribly wrong?
    Please help.

I'm using enlightenment version 0.15.5-41, which is more recent
than the 0.15.5-37 version (containing the Oracle installer
patch) that you recommended. Unfortunately, it fails when using
    this version.
I also tried installing Oracle using twm, with enlightenment
    disabled. This didn't help either.
Furthermore, the errors that I'm encountering in the OUI are
not just toward the end of the installation. They happen from
the very beginning, right after I enter "./runInstall", and
continue every step of the way.

  • Certificates in lieu of Oracle connection Manager for our Applets -- Help!!

I support an application named IDEA out of New York. The IDEA application is an INTRANET application for use within our company Firewall.
Currently, the IDEA application's front end resides on a Windows 2000 Server running IIS 5 and JRun 3.0. The back-end runs on Oracle 8.1.7 database on a UNIX Database Hosting Utility (DHU). Our applets communicate with the back-end database using Oracle Connection Manager that is installed on the Web Host.
We are trying to migrate to the DWeb environment (Linux cluster). The linux cluster is running Apache Tomcat. We have been told that installing Oracle connection manager is not a viable solution (our company does not support it). Because of this our applets cannot communicate with our database. Below is a brief description of this limitation and also the work-around.
    ====================================================================================================================================================
Connecting to the Database through the Applet
The most common task of an applet using the JDBC driver is to connect to and query a database. Because of applet security restrictions, unless particular steps are taken an applet can open TCP/IP sockets only to the host from which it was downloaded (this is the host on which the Web server is running). This means that without these steps, your applet can connect only to a database that is running on the same host as the Web server.
If your database and Web server are running on the same host, then there is no issue and no special steps are required. You can connect to the database as you would from an application.
As with connecting from an application, there are two ways in which you can specify the connection information to the driver. You can provide it in the form of host:port:sid or in the form of a TNS keyword-value syntax.
For example, if the database to which you want to connect resides on host prodHost, at port 1521, and SID ORCL, and you want to connect with user name scott with password tiger, then use either of the two following connect strings:
    using host:port:sid syntax:
    String connString="jdbc:oracle:thin:@prodHost:1521:ORCL";
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection(connString, "scott", "tiger");
    using TNS keyword-value syntax:
    String connString = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@(description=(address_list=
    (address=(protocol=tcp)(port=1521)(host=prodHost)))
    (connect_data=(sid=ORCL)))";
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection(connString, "scott", "tiger");
If you use the TNS keyword-value pair to specify the connection information to the JDBC Thin driver, then you must declare the protocol as TCP.
However, a Web server and an Oracle database server both require many resources; you seldom find both servers running on the same machine. Usually, your applet connects to a database on a host other than the one on which the Web server runs. There are two possible ways in which you can work around the security restriction:
You can connect to the database by using the Oracle8 Connection Manager.
    or:
You can use a signed applet to connect to the database directly.
These options are discussed in the next section, "Connecting to a Database on a Different Host Than the Web Server".
Connecting to a Database on a Different Host Than the Web Server
If you are connecting to a database on a host other than the one on which the Web server is running, then you must overcome applet security restrictions. You can do this by using either the Oracle8 Connection Manager or signed applets. ====================================================================================================================================================
It was suggested that we implement signed applets (it is our only alternative at this time). This is where, hopefully, you can help me. We are unfamiliar with using certificates and signing applets. We need to obtain certificates that will allow our applets to connect to our oracle database on the DHU. What kind of certificates do we use? Are their coding examples of how to use these certificates? We have a CA within our company but they cannot tell us what kind of certificates we need. How many certificates do we need? Do we install any certificates on the backend database server? Any information would be greatly appreciated. We are basically trying to get our applet to work outside the sandbox by establishing a connection to the database server. Thanks in advance for your time.

    or:
You can use a signed applet to connect to the database directly.
These options are discussed in the next section, "Connecting to a Database on a Different Host Than the Web Server".
If you want to connect to the database from the applet there is a third option.
Since this is an intranet application you have control over the desktops using this
application. In our company the jre ignores signed applets (as it should) because
it gives control to the user to run potentially harmfull applets from the Internet.
The way to dish out special privileges to applets is the policy, put a policy file on
you intranet and have the jre use it by specifying its URL in the java.security.
Here is some more info about security configuration of the jre:

  • Can latest Essbase version connect to Oracle data sources  directly?

    Hi
As you know in Essbase 9.3.1, you only can connect to any relational database via an ODBC data source and Essabse cannot talk to relational databases directly. Can Essbase 11.1.1 can talk to Oracle database directly or via OCI?
    Chandra

Essbase Studio in 11X add jdbc connections, but there is still no "direct" connection. I'm not sure if I would want one. It would imply that Essbase is now tied directly to Oracle databases and we could lose the flexability to connect to other sources.

We use the computer for various instructors but only one uses Oracle. With oracle in auto it takes for ever to log in (2 mins or more), when it is in manual it takes 10 secs for log in.

  • Help!! can't get my airport express to connect to my network

I have set up my airport express to connect to my network so I can play itunes with it but it says that the Airport has been set up but cannot connect To my network. I've tried it on both my computer and my wife's computer and we have the same problem. I have been able to connect in the past with my Airport express that I had for this one but for some reason I can't seem to connect it using this airport express. Any help would be much appreciated.

When joining a non-Apple WEP encrypted wireless network with an AirPort, you must use one of two different styles for password entry depending on whether the network is protected with an ASCII or HEX key.
    ASCII password
If using a password that is plain ASCII text, use the double quotation mark (") before and after the password. These are case-sensitive, and they are at least five characters long for 40-bit encrypted networks or at least 13 characters long for 128-bit encrypted networks.
    Hexadecimal password
If using a password that uses only the hexadecimal range of characters, add a dollar sign ($) before the password. These passwords are at least 10 characters long for 40-bit encrypted networks or at least 26 characters long for 128-bit encrypted networks.

  • Can't Create TNS-connections for different Oracle Homes

I've installed Oracle 9.2 client and also the Oracle XE 10g Database on my computer. So there are two files "tnsnames.ora"
(C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN, C:\Programme\ORA92\network\ADMIN). By creating a new connection with
"TNS" option there is only the content of the XE-tnsnames.ora file. How can I choose the tnsnames.ora in Oracle 9.2 Home?
    Edited by: @chris on 15.05.2009 15:54
Is there a preference for SQL-Developer to choose any installed Oracle Client?
Is there a file where I can configure a different Oracle Client for SQL Developer?
Remark: My "Windows XP - Path" settings are: C:\Programme\ORA92\BIN;C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\bin;...
    Edited by: @chris on 03.06.2009 19:12
No comments since 2 weeks :-(
So I think there is no possibility to select an installed Oracle client when creating "connections" in SQL Developer.
Would anybody else like to have this feature in future releases of SQL Developer?
PS: In "SQL Navigator" (by Quest Software) you can select your Oracle Client when creating a connection.

I had this same issue only with SSMS 2005 x86.
I unchecked the "Allow inprocess" and I was able to connect.
You will need the security "Be made using this security context" with the U/P that you mention
"+same userid and pwd which I use in SQL* Plus to connect to same oracle database+"
Hopefully you will get pass that issue. The issue I have now is that I can't do a select on
    one of the linked tables.

  • Please help, urgent! How to hold the connection to oracle database

I used java to connect Oracle database using thin driver. But I found out the connection will be closed very soon if I did not make any request of query. I query the database like after 1 mins without doing anything, my application will dead for about 2 mins, then everything become normal again.
How can I hold the connection or is there any other solution? thank you!

Duffy is, as usual, correct. If you have a single-user environment, then holding onto a connection is probably okay (not desirable but also not pernicious). However, once you have more than one user, you will want to use a connection pool. Jakarta Commons (jakarta.apache.org) has an open source pool that is reliable.
But the fact that you are having additional problems makes me believe you are missing a few fundamental concepts, such as transactions. Even if the connection dropped, you should be able to reconnect without issue (granted, with some additional latency). The only time it would pose an issue (above and beyond the ones mentioned above and in previous replies) is if you are not managing your transactions properly.
In short, take some tutorials on JDBC, DataSource, connection pools and transaction management.

  • Hi, can someone help me how can i connected my multimeter to my pc with rs232, because my computer can´t recognize the device, i mean the multimeter, is a multimeter keithley serie 2400, and i already downloaded all the drivers for labview even the VISA

hi, can someone help me how can i connected my multimeter to my pc with rs232, because my computer can´t recognize the device, i mean the multimeter, is a multimeter keithley serie 2400, and i already downloaded all the drivers for labview even the VISA

    Marco,
    Here are some suggestions:
    1) Check the manual the Keithley manual to see how to configure the RS-232.
On some models you need set Factory defaults to USER and turn on the RS-232.
Also there may be a setting for SCPI which you want on (probably on by default).
    2) On your PC - open Device Manager. See if a COM port exists and is functional.
You must get this working before continuing.
You can set the COM port parameters by right clicking and selecting Properties.
(On some PCs the onboard ports can be disabled in the BIOS)
    3) If step two was OK, open MAX (Measurement and Automation eXplorer).
On the left side, click on Devices and Hardware.
        Click on Serial and Parallel.
Go to the COM port you found in Device Manager.
        Open a VISA Test Panel.
Now I don't have one I can look at right now, so this is general idea:
Configure the COM port to match the Keithley settings (should be OK if step 2 worked)
Go to the (I think) Input Output tab (you want to send a command)
The command string input should already have a *IDN? entered, if not, type it in.
Click on the Query button to send the command and check the response.
If you get an ID string back (Company name, Model, FW Version ...) then it works.
(Disregard an error saying it did not get enough charcters back.)
    I hope this helps,
    steve
