The purpose of table maintainence generator is to enable the table maintenance through SM30, and to implement and validation etc on table field inputs.
SE11->Utillities->table maintainence generator
You need to enter the values of following fields:
1. Table name
2. Authorization group , and authorization object (select the suitable one )
3. Function group and package
4. Maintainence type : single or double screen maintainence view depending on the option selected.
5. Maintain screen number : you may specify a value or let the system generate one for you.
The validation code for the table entry is written in the flow logic of this screen. Even some of the fields may be made display only , by adding suitable code in the logic or directly disabling the input in table control in the layout.
Table maintanance is for creating,adding datas to an existing table.
it is for adding muiltiple records at a time in the table
A table can be manipulated by a program or manually.
When creating table, you will find a check box 'Table maintenance allowed'. If we
check that option, we can manually enter entries using SE16 or table
maintenance generator screen.
SE16 is for data browser.
Go to SE11, give the table name and click on change. Then Go to utilities--> Table
maintenance generator.
In the table maintenance generator screen, we should give Authorization Group,
Function Group name (Function Group name can be same as table name),
Maintenance type can be one step or two step, usually we will create with one
step. we should give maintenance screen number. After clicking on create button,
a table maintenance generator will be created.
To check it go to SM30 . In SM30, we find display, Maintain options.
We can view the table contents by choosing Display and we can create table
entries by choosing Maintain.
In the production system, end-users will not be having access to transaction
codes like SE11 and SE16. Developers will not be having access to many
transaction codes including the above two.
To view the contents of the database table, we will use SE16n in Production
system. Please find out the difference between SE16 and SE16n.
All these authorizations will be maintained by BASIS team, by creating access
profiles.
So in order to edit or create the contents of a database table, we should go for
table maintenance generator. In real time, authorizations will be maintained in
production system. (even in development and Test systems to some extent).
There is an audit like Sarbanes-Oxley Act for American clients, where every thing
will be audited by government agency. To know more about SOX, use the links on
the right hand side of this page.
The second reason is, we can edit or create multiple entries at a time, using table
maintenance generator.
Apart from that we have options like 'Enter conditions' in table maintenance
screen SM30. Please try to find out the use of those, by creating an example.
Table Maintenance generator: Difference between one step and two steps.
While creating table maintenance generator, we find below options:
When we choose one step, we have to give the screen number in Overview Screen field.
When we choose two step, we have to give both overview screen number and single screen number.
You can give any number for screen. Dont give 1000 screen number. As this
number is reserved for selection screen.
When we choose two step, two screens will be created for table maintenance. For
single step only one screen will be created.
When we choose two step, table maintenance will work as follows
Go to SM30, give the table name for which you have created table maintenance-
Overview screen will be displayed. To create entries, when you click on new
entries. Another screen will be displayed, where you give input and save. You can
enter one record at a time.
Go to SM30; give table name for which you have created table maintenance-
Overview screen will be displayed; To create entries click on new entries, you can
enter the records on the same screen. You can enter multiple records at a time.
We use single step generally, as it is user friendly.
To completely understand the difference and above points please do exercise by
creating table maintenance generator in both ways (using single step and two
step).

    I am having a table in which I have implemented the table maintenence generator.The requirement is as follows:
Field A:User enters value 'aaa' using F4 help
Field B:Automatically gets populated with the short description corresponding to 'aaa'.
Here the short description depends on the selected value for field A.

No need to do your coding in events in your case. first of all you understand the internal table used in table Maintainace, The internal tables used are TOTAL and EXTRACT. These table are of string type so you will have to catch your value using offset. To write the logic to popualte the value is very simple in your case. You add one Module in PAI logic of screen of Table maintainance generator in that Module you poupalte the field. for example say for the F4 value of field MATNR you want to populate field MAKTX. then in the one custom PAI moudule you write like this.
SELECT SINGLE FROM MAKT
              INTO LF_MAKTX
              WHERE MATNR = EXTARCT+3(18)(If Material is the 2nd field after MANDT).
In PAI LOOP is done on EXTARCT internal Table which holds Records in run time.
This will solve your requirment If you are not having F4 help then you can create it by adding one event PROCESS ON VALUE-REQUEST writeen in Flow logic of screen.
We use event where we want to do some validation based on some reasons like Before saving the data in database or before displaying to do the validation of records from table TOTAL. there are diffrent events in Table maintaince but in your case it's not required..

Upload to Excel option in Table maintenence View

Hello Gurus,
I have a Z table, for which we have created a table maintenence view generated and then we've attached a Z taransaction code to the same.
So if the user want, he can go to this transaction and add/edit/delete table entries right then and there.
But now the user wants a upload from excel utility/option from the same screen.
I have read somewhere on SDN that we can create custom routines and attach it to table maintenence generator, but i donno how to do it.
Can anyone please guide me or point me to some links...it would be very helpful.

Recently I faced the same issue, I had to upload 1300 records into the table using table maintenance, First I thought of wiritng a Z program, but realised that it is not acceptable to client, because if the table is uploaded in testing servor or production servor, we have to trasport the program,and this this will only increase no of programs in the produiction servor and this many of these one are required for one time only, because we may require to create table miantenace for many z tables has a whole for the complete project.
My suggestion is to upload the data from excel by pasting (if possible) or manually.

Table Maintainace genarator for Modified fields.

I have a requirement where I am updating around 40 fields in my Z-table. Again if some one is modifying these value I need those fields only unless the entire 40 fields.
For that I am trying to write a event under table maintainace genarator. But I am not getting the exact Idea.

Please I need some help with a table

I need some help with a table.
My table needs to hold prices that the user can update.
Also has a total of the column.
my question is if the user adds in a new price how can i pick up the value they have just entered and then add it to the total which will be the last row in the table?
I have a loop that gets all the values of the column, so I can get the total but it is when the user adds in a new value that I need some help with.
I have tried using but as I need to set the toal with something like total
    totalTable.setValueAt(total, totalTable.getRowCount()-1,1); I end up with an infinite loop.
Can any one please advise on some way I can get this to work ?

These are the steps you have to take first:
1. Please elaborate, your question does not all too clear.
2. Search on SCN.
3. Search on help.sap.com (for creating F4 search help).
I guess you get the picture. Creating an F4 help is quite easy (you can find that on SCN for sure), but what do you mean by
for a table
1.Do you want to create a field which has an F4 help for searching tables or
2. is this field part of a table and you need to have a search help for that field of that table in order to select some sort of value
3. Is this a custom table.
4. Is this a custom field for which F4 help should be added.
5. Won't a domain value do.
6. etc.

F4 help for ALV table field

Hi Experts,
I need to implement F4 help for ALV table field.
I my scenario, I am using two views. If we click on any record in fist view then it displays the popup window (second view) with relevant record details.
Here one of the columns having fieldnames corresponding values (old values), for correcting old values I have created new value editable column, we can enter new value for old value then we can save it. Till this functionality is ok.
Then I have included OVS help for new value field. Here I need to get f4 help for newvalue field relevant to fieldname.
For example: user clicks on f4 in cell (new value) then if corresponding fieldname is u2018WERKSu2019 then it shows the plant values
Here I can get fieldname, domain name and value table using method set_attribute ().
Same concept I have implemented in ALV using F4IF_FIELD_VALUE_REQUEST. It is working fine
Here I have little bit confusion. Please advise me how to implement in OVS.

Need help in quering table in loop

I have following scenario and need some help:
I have Table A from there I need to select NAME in LOOP and query Table B with each name.
Table B can give me more than one record per call and then I have to select the best record and update the Table A with Table B values (best row).
I have created a global temp table and insert the table B results in that table and then loop through Temp table to decide which record is best. Then update the Table A.
This solution is working but is very slow. I have created indexes on all the tables but still very slow. Is there any solution to make it fast?

ThanksDon't use PL/SQL loops, don't use GTT's, do it in plain sql. If you post the table descriptions and some sample data (preferrably in the form of cretate table and insert statement) and explain how you determine "the best record" in table B I'm sure that someone here could help you with the requirements.

First in the MARA table the Search Help(MAT1) for matnr is selected and viewed.
In the included search helps tab of MAT1 there is another search help MAT1_A.
For that search help in the included u201Csearch helpu201D tab view is selected .
Inside that there is a search help called MAT1_A_APPEND.
Then in the included search help tab of MAT1_A_APPEND, the customized search helps can be attached.

ADDING A NEW FIELD IN TABLE MAINTENENCE GENERATOR

I HAVE A REQUIREMENT OF ADDING A FIELD TO DATA BASE TABLE .
THAT ADDED FIELD SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN IN TABLE MAINTANENCE GENERATOR WHICH IS ALREADY THERE.
CAN YOU GUYS TELL ME HOW TO ADD NEW FIELD IN TABLE MAINTENENCE GENERATOR.
