Help Me! iTunes Screwed Up 1500 songs on my iPod When I Updated

Hope someone out there can help me. My son updated the iTunes software on our PC (Windows XP Media) as recommended, and now whenever you click on a song imprted from a CD, you get a message that iTunes cannot locate the file. We're talking more than 1,500 songs and a great deal of work.
Any miracle workers out there who can tell me if I can do anything to make the 1,500 songs work again? All of the information is still in the listings. It's just that iTunes can't locate the files now.
Help me, and I'll be forever grateful.
Is it just me, or is the iPod the biggest piece of trash ever foisted on the buying public?

O dear, I was hoping to have that question answered for me, as I have had a similar problem with I Tunes. I down loaded an iTunes update so I could take the pod cast from our local radio station, ABC radio, Melbourne Australia, which is up and running and working fine.
When trying to play the music I have in iTunes a pop up menu tells me the original file could not be found, do I want to locate it, pressing the yes button takes me back to the iTunes listing which still does not change anything.
I have been to the iTunes task bar, I have a choice of New folder, or add to the library. Could you please walk me through the instructions clearly, I have limited knowledge of computers.

Help, I lost all the songs on my iPod when I deleted a few songs from my iTunes Library, checked the box titled "Replace all items when Autofilling" in my Autofill Settings window, and then tried to Autofill. Note that I do not purchase songs from iTunes, but rather I rip songs off my own cd's and then transfer the mp3 files to iTunes. And after I transfer mp3 files from my pc to iTunes and then Autofill, I generally delete those files from my pc.
I can still see the songs in my iTunes Library, but not on my iPod. Is there a way that I can salvage them and get them back on my iPod?

Well you will have to wait to connect you ipod to the orignal computer and it will put all your songs back on to it.

Or, when you are synching choose the songs you want on the IPod by checking them in the library, then tell it to only synch checked items.
To be honest, the 'smart playlist' is probably a simpler way though. Go to playlists, click 'create new smart playlist' and choose your parameters from there. As you add new music to the library the playlist will update itself.

To see the exact size of your library, simply look at the status bar at the bottom. If you don't have a status bar, enable by going to View > Show Status Bar.
If you want to fit more on the iPod, use the capability to "Convert higher bit rate songs..." as shown below. If you set this to 128, you can fit around 500 4-minute songs in 2GB.

Try my script FindTracks. Select a few of the missing files to start with then run the script. Choose No at the first prompt so that you can check how it works track by track, then confirm or edit the location of the media folder where your files are. Once you are happy with how it behaves let it process larger numbers of tracks automatically.

This problem does seem pretty random, affecting just a small number of tracks. Apparently it is due to some file corruption or something... Anyway, this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2654317?start=15&tstart=0 has a couple of solutions spelled out. Basically the same thing that a-monk-at-large suggested above. (Delete and redownload the offending tracks.)

HELP! After installing iTunes 7, all the songs on my iPod disappeared!

I dont know if othe people are having this problem too but it really *****!
I downloaded iTunes 7 a while back because i had no choice, i wouldnt be able to buy songs/music videos from it if i didnt.
It installed a new iTunes
then a new iPod upgrade.
A day later, i pluged in the iPod.
It asked me if i wanted to upgrade it with gapless playback because i thought it would save space or something.
so i put yes, and let it do it over night since it took so long..
then the next thing i knew when i woke up, is that all the songs on my iPod were GONE!
I even plugged it back into the computer and iTunes said there were no songs on my iPod! or videos or anything!
I rechecked everything and it said the iPod was still 98% full (because i had like 4,300 songs on it) and only 2mb of free space...
I checked iTunes and it said that the things were taking up space were 10% "pics" and 89% "other files".... so i know itunes can see the files there..
I KNOW THEY'RE STILL THERE!
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME GET THEM BACK?!?!
I know it was the gapless playback thing... is there any way to undo it??
Please... someone help me... i cant just back up all my songs... because i reformatted my computer a while ago too.. so i have no backed up songs... and a lot are from other friends too!

Just restore the ipod
If Not on the PC
You will have to TRY and rep[air the ipods database with yamipod. This way is not full proof, but its the only option you have since you have not backed up http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/docs/help/corruptedipod.php

Help! iTunes imports every other song?!

Ok, I got a newer ipod for my husband and i've installed all of the software and the iTunes is importing the songs, but when I check them in the library they are 758:57. They do not play, it skips over them. I didn't have this problem with my mini when I got it. I've tried 4 different cds from different labels and they're all doing that. I've also reset the ipod, and uninstalled and reinstalled the software. What should I do next?

I am having a similar problem. If I use the automatic import function or the manual import function, only the odd tracks will record. Is this your same problem?

Itunes has all the songs... ipod a few! what??

Ipod seems to have lost many songs. I had them in the beginning... but now all the songs by certain artists are missing! They all exist on itunes but when Ipod updates it wont download them.... Is there something I can do? help!

it seems to me it happened after downloading itunes 5 ; the problem remains with itunes 6, even though i've restaured the ipod !!!

ITUNES WILL NOT LOAD SONGS ON TO IPOD....

I got a new laptop a few days ago and have just got round to reloading my itunes software on to it. I have transfered all my songs from my ipod by showing the hidden files on ipods hard drive and dragging them onto my computer. I then wanted to put a few more cds on to my ipod so i copied them on to my itunes as normal, then plugged the ipod in expecting itunes to auctomatically update and it didnt. I have tried eveything i can think of.

okay so you show plug it into itunes if you dont have it on your computer you can download it here http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
when it is pluged in on the left side there will be a device sign and under it will be the ipod drag the song from itunes to the ipod.
if that does not work there will be a tab called store and under it should be 3 sub tabs called itunes store, itunes match, and purchased
click purchased and all the song that you have ever bought show be there and just drag the songs you want over.
