Help me make a boot disk

hi, i have tried all sorts of ways to make a boot disk with a working Disk warrior, i have tried bootcd( but doesnot work on 10.4) i have tried CLoneX, but it wont load Disk warrior, i have even created a disk image of my mac os X up grade disk and then put diskm warrior on it, (just drag and drop form the orginal disk image) , but itg wont load, at the moment, i am tring to use my mac os X install disk.....any tips would be great
i am trying to repair my catalog file , whihc apparently has an illegal name..... alos ii need to fix my 250gb hard drive that crashed, and now my computer wont even reconize,,,,,,,now, i have at my disposale aa 10gb hard drive and a 20 gib drive, i have installeed mac os x on the 10 gb, but it wont boot form it ( it is in a fire wire enclousre)...... my other 20 gb is crashed, and i cant mount it, in order to format it....... HElp plz

I am trying to install from the download I received. My CD will arrive in the mail at some point
I can only get so far. As it is installing to the emergency disk it stops with an error message:
An error occurred while trying to complete the installation. Installation was canceled, leaving your dis untouched.
Any idea what am I doing wrong?????

How I make a boot disk

Hello.
I'm an absolut Linux beginner and I tried to install archlinux on an external HDD, because my internal windows drives are dynamic logical Volumes and this doesn't work with Linux.
After the installation from the CD I noticed that I cannopt boot from USB HDD because of the BIOS.
How I make a boot disk (floppy) now ? The wiki guide doesn't help because if I boot from the installation CD I don't have the command fdformat and the command pacman - S grub works neither.
Can you help?

I found a grub boot disk on the net, it was a super grub boot disk. I deleted nearly all files and just copied my files from /boot/grub in the grub directory of the floppy disk. I used the windows tool "explore2fs" to get acces to my boot partition with the grub directory.
Her is my menu.lst:

It doesn't work, because the hd 2,0 is not found from grub. (Selected disk does not exist)
It seams that grub is not recognizing my usb hdd at start up ?!?! but this cannot be, because during the installation process it is.

PS The possibility to boot Arch with the Windows Bootmanager is interesting. Maybe we can discuss this later.....

How do I make a boot disk in OSX 10.4 something and have some tools like Disk Warrior on it? I found one program at versiontracker that does this but it doesn't work in .4, oh well ...... or I can just wait for several days til my DiskWarrior CD comes in the mail ....... but who can be without their computer that long in today's day and age? yup, you guessed it, my powerbook won't start up and I've tried lots so far ...... hoping dw will do the trick.

Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
   2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this entire command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
     sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume
     /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again. Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

I just purchased a new iMac equipped with a bare bones 1TB SATA hard drive. I want to replace that disk with a 1TB SSD from Crucial (less than 1/2 of the cost of purchasing the iMac with the SSD). I have a Time machine backup of the iMac on a Time Machine/Airport device; how do I make a boot disk that can get the OS up and running, and able to restore the backup from the Time Machine?

You can take it an AASP to have the install done however you probably would be better off returning the machine (assuming it was bought directly from Apple and is less than 14 days old) and buy the configuration you want. Even if an AASP does install the SSD there is no guarantee Apple will honor the warranty, it's 100% at their discretion.

Well guys I am getting really conflicting information about possibility to use USB thumb drive for boot up drive for OSX! Some people say yes, some say no, some - not sure.
Here is the question formulated as straight as possible:
A Mac user wants to create OSX 10.6 boot-up disk on a USB thumb drive, so it can be used to start the Mac instead of using manufacturer’s CD. Also, (thumb drive’s size permitting) the Mac user must be able to install software on it, as it is done on the internal HD.
The computer is MacBookPro , Intel based , OSX 10.6
The USB thumb drive is 16 Gb brand new .
So,
what the EXACT steps will be, to properly Mac format the thumb drive with OSX disk utility and then install on it the OSX 10.6 from the manufacturer's grey CD that comes with the Mac?
Could someone, who has practical experience and is absolutely sure about the exact steps provide the final answer, please?

I have made a bootable USB following the above instruction and also had enough space to install a few utilities. It works fine for me.
I usually like to check disk health of my MBpro intel via disk utilities off the USB after booting from it. Not that this is a recommended way or anything, just that I like to do it that way.

Macs with pre-installed OS X Lion don't come with physical media. You have a recovery partition on your internal hard disk on your mac. If you want to reinstall OS X, hold down CMD + R when you hear the startup sound.

How can I get a boot-disk for a Compaq P2500 laptop Windows XP Home Edition?

I'm already in another forum with a eerily similar question, but that's for the HP Media Center Pavilion m8000e desktop system (Windows Vista Home Premium) I was just given; I've ordered a new hard drive for that. I assume the directions to create a boot disk with the *.iso file (using Imgburn) is going to work; I have the 25-digit code for that.
This question here now is for my wife's older Compaq P2500 2596US laptop running Windows XP Home Edition. This too needs a new hard drive, but I also am missing the boot disc for this; I do have the 25-digit product code.
How can I get a boot disk for this laptop? I tried the Ubuntu method outlined in a few posts; geez, what a headache ... never could get it managed. Does HP not make any boot disks available? Microsoft told me to check with HP.
I can furnish the product code; model #; serial# ... gee, maybe the oroginal receipt is even laying around somewhere ...
I need a boot disk to get the new hard drive up on board (if I end up ordering that).

How Do I Make a Boot/Startup on CD not Floppy?

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad R61li 15.4" screen laptop. It's important that I keep this computer in service with the Win XP Pro Sp 3 because I have two vital programs which will not install on Win 8.
This computer has never had a "A: Floppy dirve" and only a CD drive but the installation options for making a Boot Disk/ Start-up Disk only consider a Floppy drive and not a CD drive. I need to make a Boot/Start-up disk on a CD so that if I get locked out of my computer AGAIN, I can boot back into Windows and then either fix the problems or restore from my current backups.
I have two new sets of Rescue Disks but they don't boot into the current OS so that I can access my backups. And if I can't access Safe Mode or do a repair, I'm stuck with the problem of having to reinstall an old version of XP, which is then not compatible with my backups because the backups have new Windows files from all the upgrades.
How can I make a Boot Disk/Start-up Disk like we used to use in the "old days" to start the initial system files and boot into Windows so that I can either make repairs to restore from my backups using current Winows files?

Where can I get the Boot Disk for my macbook pro? Downloading OSX Lion is taking too long

I got a macbook pro that was owned by someone for a few days before. I tried to restore to factory setting but now downloading OSX Lion is taking forever with my internet connection. Can anyone help me find a boot Disk to speed up the process?

Apple no longer sells a Lion installation USB flash drive (they did at one time). SO you'll just have to wait for the download to complete. It's best to 'hard-wire' the download - not over wifi but with an Ethernet cable connected directly to your router. That will gain you some speed.
You could also try taking your MBP to a friend's home where they may have a faster Internet service. My download speed is 22+Mbps with my cable company - you may have a friend or neighbor who has something similar? Of course, you are always at the mercy of Apple's servers - sometimes they're just overloaded and a download that should take 20 minutes can take up to an hour and one-half.

If you decide you want to make a boot disk, download the installer from the App Store and use one of there methods. Lion Diskmaker will do the work for you.

If you have a Mac OS X install DVD or install thumbdrive, use that. If not, use a program such as the Disk Utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper to clone the system to an external drive.

To convert your PC into a LabVIEW Real-Time Target, you must purchase the LVRT Deployment License for Standard PCs (ETS RTOS). This gives you a license to install the RTOS on the PC. While you *can* make a boot disk in MAX, this may or may not work with your PC, and you would be violating the license agreement. The purchase of the LVRT module for ETS does not include any RTOS runtime licenses.

Changing partition size of boot disk

Hi, i have an imac 5.1, i use an external drive to boot from which has 2 partitions, the one i boot from and the other part has files and stuff. i want to make the boot disk space bigger and the other smaller, how would i do this? thanks.

The idea of seperating the data from the system is a poor reason to partition the system drive.
Backup the data.
Reformat to a single partition and restore the data.
This will allow OS X to handle disk space for you instead of you having to do it.

Unable to Log and Capture AND make FCP a boot disk

I am unable to go into Log and Capture mode in FCP 4. I can capture from firewire using I movie just fine so I know the sytem works. The minute I open Log and Capture from within FCP (with the JVC Mini-DV camera hooked up thru Firewire), it crashes. Help. I upgraded from FCP 3 to FCP 4 a couple years ago and it hasn't worked right since. Would re-installing the FCP 4 upgrade work? Also, my system works very sluggish. Please explain to me how I would make the veersion of FCP 4 my boot disk. I realize that I can't have the FCP 4 application and the media on the same drive but is there a way to partition one of my drives and make FCP one of the startup disks? Hope this isn't too confusing. Thanks.

First off, FCP 4 was darn unstable. FCP 4.5 is a free upgrade and is STILL the most stable version out there. FCP 5 is getting there.
Secondly, try:
Shane's Stock Tip Mantra: If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the appropriate version of FCP Rescue at http://fcprescue.andersholck.com/ and run it.
2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
As for partitioning the hard drive, that isn't necessary. Hasn't been since FCP 3.
