Help me!!!!!!My iBook 800mhz sometimes can't wake up after  sleep mode...!!

Hi everybody. I'm a happy mac user sinc 2001, and i have since 2004 an ibook G4 800mhz. Ok, everything good, the problem is that from today if i leave the ibook in stop mode for half an hour for exemple it can't wake up, everything seems dead and i have to push the power button for 4 second and then turn the computer on again. If the sleep mode duration is about 5 minutes ok, otherwise it can't wake up. whyy???? what is the problem? i reset pram, nvram and pmu, but nothing. everything else works perfectly, but this is a very important problem for me because i risk to lose my work because i have always to reboot the system.
Pleas help me!!!
Ps i'm sorry for english, but i'm italian...
thanks a lot

annihilator,
Quoting from my own post:
""It could be a PMU problem. The PMU is actually a tiny computer within the computer. It's official designation is PMU99.
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/DeveloperNotes/Macintosh_CPUs-G4/12inchPowerBookG4/2_Architecture/chapter_3_section4.html
"Power Control IC
The power manager IC in the 12-inch PowerBook G4 is a Mitsubishi M16C/62F microprocessor, also called the PMU99. It operates with its own RAM and ROM. The functions of the PMU99 include:
*controlling the sleep and power on and off sequences<</div>
*real time clock
*controlling power to the other ICs
*monitoring the battery charge level
*controlling battery charging
*supporting the interface to the built-in keyboard (AND TRACK PAD)
The PMU99 also provides the hardware interface to the keyboard. Software in the PMU99 IC scans the keyboard, then sends the data to the system in packets like those from the ADB. To the system, the keyboard behaves as if they were ADB devices""
Try resetting it:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
If that doesn't work try what I call a deep PMU reset.
Pull all power including the battery, push the power button to remove residual charge in soft start capacitors.
Then walk away from it for at least 10 hours.
This has worked for Macs with the PMU99 since the G3 Desktops and especially the G4 Towers (Sawtooth, GI, MD, etc)
Also:
i had a problem with trackpad that became crazy, but i unmount it from the case i clean it and now it works better than perfecty.
Could you explain this more clearly? You opened up the iBook, then
i unmount it from the case
so you removed the trackpad part itself from the upper case? the trackpad part and associated circuitry? Was it glued to the upper case? in that kind of little well it sits in? But you didn't break the plastic welds that hold the "clicker" part to the upper case?
i clean it and now it works better than perfecty.
Which part was dirty?

  • Can't wake up after sleep mode

Mac owner for 2 months now and have had no problems till today...had to reboot to wake up from sleep mode...one time occurrence or start of an issue?

That's an important one.  Let it finish normally until you are fully rebooted and things are stable.
Whenever I get a firmware update like that one, I follow nine steps to ensure my computer is in top shape. Basically, they represent checking the disk for errors, fixing the errors, fixing the permissions, and setting the default memory values to whatever was in the firmware.
    1) shutdown the computer
    2) push the power buttom and as soon as you hear the chime, hold the option key and don't let go
    3) when you see your boot options, let go of the key and select recovery partition (Lion only)
    4) select disk utility from the options, then highlight Macintosh HD, do a repair the disk and repair permissions
    5) now click the apple icon in the upper corner and shutdown
    6) pull the power cord and hold the on button for 15 seconds
    7) plug it back in, and find the option, P, command, & R keys
    8) hit the power button and as soon as you hear the chime, hold all four keys (it takes two hands)
    9) wait until you hear the startup chime twice and let go, allow the computer to finish booting
I'm not recommending you do it, it is just what I do.  Good luck.

  • NEW iBook and doesn´t wake up after sleep mode!

    Hi,
I´ve just started to use my new iBook G4 3 days ago, added my user information, and for a little while the wireless internet connection. Then, I closed the display to put it on sleep mode.....and.............it DOESN´T WAKE UP!!!
The hard disk seems to start up correctly (the fan is on and the disk noise is ok), the Caps Lock on the keyboard is on too, but as soon as I reboot the computer, a strange beep (like a phone tone!) starts up, then the sleep light signal flashes but the screen stays black.
I think that by now I´ve tried the most solutions (as far as I can having the black screen) I´ve read on the troubleshooting page and the recommendations posted in this Discussion chat... The iBook remains partially dead.
    Help!!!

ummm, even when its not plugged in to the power adapter? i find that when my ibook annoyingly doesnt wake from sleep, its usually because i connected/disconnected something while it was sleeping. even plugging in the power adapter seems to affect it. the way i fix it is to put it to sleep again, and then open the lid. its worked every time so far.
oh, and apprantly 'manually' putting the ibook to sleep does the trick (ie from the apple menu)

  • My MacBook Pro sometimes doesn't wake up from sleep mode

Dear users, my MacBook Pro (model 5,1 - 15" Late 2008) is behaving oddly since I upgraded to OSX Lion. Sometimes, after going into sleep mode, it doesn't wake up. When I hit a key (space or enter), I see the login screen, but it's not possible to type my keyword. The only thing active is "the spinning beach ball of death", so I have to manually shut down my Mac and start over. This problem (and also other problems) did not happen in Snow Leopard. The only thing that changed in my Mac is the OS; other programs remain the same. I already tried reseting PRAM and SMC, and fixing disk errors. Thanks for your attention.

try running a hardware test and see if you get an error code: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh35727.html

  • Can't wake up after sleep

I bought a Macbook (15-inch, Late 2011) at Amazon on April 26, 2012, and I made it to be my primary laptop.
The Laptop is wonderful but sometimes I got a problem. After finishing the work I will turn my Macbook into sleep by pressing the sleep button under the top-left apple menu. However, the next day I found I have no way to wake it up, neither the keyboard nor the mouse would work. Even the power button fails to wake up my Macbook. Unless I force the Macbook shut down by long pressing the power button, and restart it again.
Such situation happened to my Macbook many times when it was fully charged. The problem is quite annoying and discouraging. Is it the common problem of Macbooks? And how can I deal with the problem?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Fan

  • OSX.4.9-Sometimes can't wake-up, other times freezes on log-in window

I have an iMac G5 1.8 ghz with 768GB ram. This problem has been going on for a few weeks. The last update installed was SecUpd2007-005Ti.pkg on 5-26-07.
When you try to wake the computer, sometimes all you get is the notorious beach ball and a gray screen. When that happens, you can press the power button on back and it will cut off then you can cut it back on and get the login window. Sometimes you can then login okay but sometimes, as twice last night and once this a.m., it will gray out and freeze after typing in the proper password. This morning, I typed in password on login from sleep window, it grayed out and stayed that way with the beach ball. Then the screen went black and the CPU fan took off, really loud. I had to unplug the computer and reboot (pressing rear power button didn't do anything). After reboot, I was able to login fine. A crash window for report to Apple appeared and I sent report. I have disabled sleep mode for CPU and checked only display in System preferences until I can get this bug worked out. I also have reset nvram but that didn't help. I'm pretty adept at solving my own problems but this one has me stumped. It acts as if it's a system problem. Any ideas on what it is?

    Update:
Ran Hardware test. All components passed. I disabled all password required options except, of course, on restart. I have set the display to sleep after 1 hr., the screensaver after 15 min. When I wiggle mouse or touch any key, I now get desktop. Okay, that said, when you login from sleep, the OS is very unstable, applications are slow, sometimes even the dock isn't accessable and eventually, the OS crashes. When I restart, the logging in from the restart users login window, no problems! Everything is fine. So, what's causing the computer to not wake from sleep and on the rare occasion when it does wake, the OS and applications are unstable? Is this a 'firmware' problem or is there any corrupt start-up files I can trash and replace? I can copy over files from my other computer with same OS and replace, if need be.

  • Help! Stuck on white screen after sleep mode and won't start again!

Bought the iMac last week, updated to 10.5.1. Worked well until this morning after I did a security update. Then put it in sleep mode - and basta! After I wanted to work on it again - it didn't restart. So, I had to switch off using power button, but it never started again and always got stuck on the white screen with the Apple logo and the rotating loop. Tried to repair permissions - cannot do it, as it says there is an error. Tried to re-install from DVD the Leopard while archiving the previous information - can't do either - says error. Now trying to re-install it again with an erase option. But this is not a good option, people! This is pretty very much disappointing, Apple!
    Can anyone help, please!

Boy that is way too bad.
Could you tell us what the error message was?
While sometimes the error messages are not very informative, other times they are. That might be a clue as to what is going on.
When you restart from the DVD you have the option to access Apple's Disk Utility and repair the disk.
You might want to try that, skip repairing permissions at this point.
You can also reset the computer by unplugging all cables including the power cable for at least 15 seconds and then plug in the power cable and keyboard and restart.
You can reset the PRAM by holding down the command-option - p - r keys simultaneously during restart and waiting for the startup chime then releasing those keys after the second chime to allow the start to continue.

  • Strange problem.  My program sometimes doesn't wake up from sleep.

I have no idea why this is happening. I know the general area is where I am testing for socket connectivity. There is an actual sleep(1) in that loop I test 3 times one second apart).
Sometimes after someone goes into sleep mode (closing the lid), when they open the lid and resume, my program is locked up. It is not red in the activity viewer, but it just doesn't do anything.
To make things even more confusing, if you sleep a little while, like close the lid and walk to another building on campus, and then open the lid, my program runs just fine. However, if you close the lid, like at night, and open the lid the next morning, it always locked up.
Again, I think the area it is on, is the actual Sleep(1) when the computer goes to sleep. Are there two stages to sleep on Macs? Like you close the lid and if you open it in less then an hour its a light sleep, but if it is more then an hour, its a deep sleep.
    Any ideas would be helpful.

No one can help me with this? I have figured out that if I am in a Sleep() and the computer goes to sleep, when it wakes up my program isn't running anymore. I see scores of complaints when googling about all sorts of apps that 'die' when the Mac wakes up. Is there a safer way to Sleep() then that API call?

  • Can't connect to Internet after sleep mode

    Hi,
Most times after put my iBook in sleep mode and reopen it, I can't connect to Internet. I use a normal cable connection by ethernet, but at these times, when I check the network status, it says I don't have any cable connected. The modem apears to be OK, with the computer's light on. I plug off and plug in the cable and it doesn't change and it happens the same when I click in DHCP renew - it just doesn't give any IP adreess. I need to restart the computer to get the connection again.
    Ibook G3 700   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I am trying other solutions today.
It can not change to another wifi network without switch off the wifi.
That's mean I have switch off and re-open the wifi signal every time when it show like this capture.
I waiting for more than 5 mins and it will search another wifi network automatically but it still "No internet connect".
My MacBook Pro is no any WiFi issues.

  • Why does my MAC sometimes crash when coming out of sleep mode?

My mac freezea sometimes when coming out of sleep mode, and occasionally the screen will go black. At other times I will be using the MAC and it will just freeze. The only way to get out of it is to kill power and reboot. It seems to be happening more frequently.
It was suggested that I fix permissions and start in sleep mode. This has helped in the past, and I am going to do it again now. I also recently upgraded to 10.6.8, and after that the crashes were fewer, but now they are increasing again.
I am including a log of the recent crash a few minutes ago.

Okay thanks, but I am a newbie who is not a very tech kind of a person. The only periphals I have are a kodak camera dock, a Canon 310 copier/fax/scanner and a pair of altec speakers. How do I determine  if they all have drivers for my MAC? They all seem to work okay, if that is a sign, though the Kodak camera Dock is a bit slow. How also do I determine if they are Apple energy compatible? With each of these peripherals, do I simply disconnect them from my MAC one at a time to see if there improvement?

  • Can't fetch mail after sleep

I have a really annoying problem with an iMac and can't just figure out what's wrong:
Since mid December this iMac (model 11,1: 2.66Ghz core i5/OS 10.6.5) has been dropping the network connections when it's waken up from sleep mode.
If you try to hit the "Get mail" button after that, Mail tells +"the connection to the server 'nnn' on port 995 timed out."+
It doesn't matter if youre using port 995 or 110, they both are allowed on the server we're using and there's no problems with the rest of the Macs in our office with similar Mail and Network configurations.
And the computer drops the connection to our file server at the same time as well. The OS is up-to-date.

I have exactly the same problem on Snow Leopard with Mail 4.5 except re-booting doesn't work. even re-installing Mail has made no difference.
