Help me, oh great Toonz! (Slow import issue - # bazillion!)
Toonz you seem to be the most knowledgeable about this slow import issue.
I am trying to import from music CDs to a brand new, out-of-the-box, Maxtor External Hard Drive (usb 2.0). Currently I have a Dell Dimension XPS T500 Pentium3 w 512MB Ram and also a newly installed Sony 52x optical drive. Yet I still suffer from import rates of 3.0 or less.

Sudden ultra-slow importing issue in LR5.2 - possibly smart collection related?
I've been using LR for almost two years now, and have never seen this before:
This evening I wanted to import a series of images from my card reader using LR (just updated to 5.2 from the 5.2RC); I have ~240 images to import. I always have LR set to convert to DNG on import, and also to save a backup of the original raw file (NEF) onto a separate HDD at the same time. LR has always been pretty fast to carry out this process: normally just a few minutes are required for that amount of images (not including rendering previews once the DNGs are imported). However, today it's suddenly become painfully slow - as I type this, it's so far managed to import a mere 58 images, having so far taken about an hour and twenty minutes! Each image is being added one at a time, with a long pause before the next one clocks up in the 'current import' folder. I've never seen such slow performance with LR before.
I wonder if this is a bug connected to the final release of 5.2? I doubt it, as I would have expected to have heard about this by now, but you never know...
I have recently - in the past few days - set up a number (at least 80) of new smart collections that pick up raw images taken at specific focal lengths, as well as another set picking up specific apertures used for each raw shot in the catalogue (unlike the majority of my pre-existing smart collections, these new collections are purely there for interest really - nice to see which focal lengths are the most used for example - but don't serve as an aid to any specific workflow). In short, I've greatly increased the number of smart collections running in my catalogue. Would having a significant number of smart collections slow down the image ingestion process? For example, is LR updating individual smart collections on the fly as images are imported, and thus having to pick through each collection in order to complete the import (I'd always assumed that this would all be added to a central index in the catalogue that the smart collections feed from, but perhaps there are multiple indexes, one for each smart collection)?
I guess the other possible cause could be a corrupt catalogue, although both the catalogue integrity check and optimisation complete without a hitch and everything else seems to be fine.
I'm on Win7 x64, running the LR catalogue and previews from an SSD (with images stored on a separate HDD), with an i7 3770K CPU, 16GB RAM, and an AMD 5850 Radeon graphics card.
I'd be most grateful to hear the opinions of other LR users.
MThis just started happening to me as well. EVerything was fine and import was what I consider normal until 2 days ago. Had trouble with one camera which kept losing connection. I import from the camera directly...copy as DNG to an internal hard drive. Now all my cameras are importing at a ridiculously slow rate of speed. As far as I know I changed nothing to make this happen. Very odd and cannot find anything about it except for your post. Anyone else out there experiencing this?

HELP!!! - h.264 import issues
I downloaded a clip (.mov with a h264/ACC format, 1920x1080). FCE says it's a file it won't import/work with and when I've tried importing it into iMovie or used MPEG Streamclip and QT to change it to a .dv file, it just comes out "digitized issues" during playback.
HELP!!!
What is going on? What can I do to get a quality movie burnt? The clip is only five minutes but I need it for church tomorrow.Use Streamclip to convert it to QuickTime (not DV, that's standard definition) using the Apple Intermediate Codec at 29.97fps with uncompressed 48k audio. Using a sequence setting in FCE that matches that.
Beaten at the line.

I have a dynamic table that calculates the sum of all rows, no issue. I'm struggling with pulling out a subtotal though. I would like to have a check box in each row that flags those rows and gives the sum of their total. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here's something I threw together rq. The script is in the change event for the checkbox in the table. (Of course, you'll have to modify it to suit the names of your fields.)
var rows = xfa.resolveNodes("tblAmounts.Row1[*]");
var subtotal=0;
for (i=0; i<rows.length; i++) if (rows.item(i).cbAdd.rawValue == 1) subtotal = subtotal + rows.item(i).nfAmount.rawValue;
nfSubtotal.rawVlaue=subtotal; -
Is there a way to change the speed of a keyframe zoom effect on still photos? Clip duration doesn't seem to change the zoom speed at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Open the video animation (Control-v). In transform>All click and drag the X and Y keyframes (which should be together) – left to speed up the scale change and right to slow it down . It may take a little practice to get this to work (I seldom get it right the first try).
You could do this individually for each clip, or you wanted to adjust multiple clips you can copy and paste attributes to your other other clips.

I am experiencing very slow import and backing up issues.
I am experiencing very slow import and backing up catalog on exiting Lightroom. This is a very recent issue. I use RAW files.
The type of files you are importing will have an effect on the speed of the import process. Larger files, like raw sensor files, are normally much larger than JPG files.
But if this is something new, the slowness, and you are using the same camera with the same size files as previously then it's not just the file size.
What type of computer and what operating system are you using. -

New to Premiere, .mov file import issues
I am new to Premiere Elements 10, My mom had it installed on her new computer. I am trying to edit videos but I am running into some problems with .mov files. I have searched the forums and not been able to find an answer that really helps so I am going to put all my info here and hope someone out there can help. I am not the most tech saavy person out there, so it may need to be "dumbed down" a bit for me to understand.
I have a Kodak Easy Share c160, and I am using an HP Envy17 running Win.7 Premium. My mom bought Photoshop Premiere Elements, back when she fist purchased her computer. I try and import my videos into PE10 and I get "generic problem" as a result I have checked out the "suppored file type" in the help section of premier and it says it supports .mov files. I have looked for updates on the adobe website and havent found any. What am I doing wrong?
. Any help would be greatly appreciated.ATR,
I most often encounter such, when a spammer has added a Reply. One "trick," that they use is to find old threads, and then add a Reply with their spam URL to it.
Often, most of us will never see that Reply, as a MOD will have seen it, and Deleted it, or, and more often, an Administrator will have closed a spammer's account, Deleting all of their spam posts - poof! gone before we know it.
Now, when there IS a post (even if it is almost immediately Deleted), the Jive software will show an (Updated) notice to the thread, but there will be nothing new showing.
I have also observed a few of these retain that (Updated) flag, even after I have viewed the thread. It is not until someone has actually posted to it, that the flag is permanently removed.
We do not see much spam in the PrE Forum, but in forums, such as The Lounge, it is very common for them to be hit by spammers. Also, long weekends (in the US) are prime spam times, as most Administrators are not in their office, other traffic is slower, and even MOD's might have taken the days off. The spammers assume that their endeavors will be up for at least three days, before being removed. However, John C., Adobe-Admin, usually works from home in Seattle, and zaps the spam very, very quickly.
Now, this is just speculation, since the post is gone, but as it is a common occurance, I think that I will be correct here.

IMPORT issues: Works with iMovie 3 but not iMovie 6 ???
Okay, still trying to get my import issue resolved.
I have a SONY HDR-HC3 DVmini.
No problems with iMovie 3 on my Powerbook.
iMovie 6 on my MDD will let me control the camera, but the screen stays BLUE with no IMPORT.
My buddy thinks it might be a Quicktime issue.
He said to download Quicktime Pro, that might resolve this issue.
I can copy the iMovie 3 file to my machine with iMovie 6 and do the editing, just not the importing...
THANXHi
Can be so much.
Often Camera has to be connected to Charger/mains during Capture.
An majority is a faulthy - badly connected FW-Cable (USB don't work at all)
My list on this
*NO CAMERA or A/D-box*
Cable
• Sure that You use the FireWire - USB will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
• Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
Camera
• Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
• Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
• Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
• Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
Connections
• Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
Mac
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
(Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
SoftWare
• Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
• Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
• FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
Using WHAT versions ? .
• Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
• QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
• iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
• iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
*Other ways to import Your miniDV tape*
• Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
• If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)
from LKN 1935.
Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935
from Karsten.
in addition to Bengt's excellent '9 yards of advice' ..
camera set to 'Play' , not rec/computer/etc.?
camera not on battery, but power-line?
did your Mac 'recognize' this camera before...?
a technical check.
connect camera, on, playback, fw-connected...
click on the Blue Apple, upper left of your screen ..
choose 'About../More..
under Firewire.. what do you read..?
More
• FileVault - Secure that it’s turned off
• Network storage - DOESN’T WORK
• Where did You store/capture/import Your project ?
External USB hard disk = Bad Choise / FireWire = Good
If so it has to be Mac OS Extended formatted
----> UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange is NOT Working for VIDEO !

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.
*No Camera or bad import*
• USB hard disk
• Network storage
• File Vault is on

if you have adobe cs3 or 4 and have the adobe bridge on close that

see if that halps

The problem was the external backup hard drive that is connected, you need to disconect the external drive before the mac can see the video camera.

Slow reloading issue with Safari 5.1.2/Mac OS X 10.6.8
Hello,
I am using Safari 5.1.2 on Mac OS X 10.6.8. I encountered 2 serious problems:
1. some web pages load real slow as slow as taking more than 2 minutes. This behavor seems related to Javascript enabling. If I go to preference/security to uncheck the "enable Javascript", then all page loaded instantly, but any page using Javascript to rander something will miss those things on the page.
2. with the mentioned Safari/Mac OS, if I have multiple windows already openned, open or close one broswer window, all other window will reload or refresh, due to the slowness mentioned above, all window become white with reloading searchball rolling. I also followed other suggestion to set debug menu to uncheck the "use multi-process widnows", that causes frozen system issue. Only when I start a new window from the debug menu item "use single-process Window",everything seems working fine but that is not desired. I followed some internet suggestion to downgrade the Safari to 5.0.5, I also got the more serious system frozen issue after open some website like cnn.com.
Please let me knwo what is the best approach to resolve the 2 issue above. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
XipingGo to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Move the Cache.db from the com.apple.Safari folder file to the Trash, restart your Mac, try Safari.
If that doesn't help, try Safari in another user account. Same problems there, log back into your admin account, launch Disk Utility.
That's located in /Applications/Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the disk needs repairing follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks -
Hi All,
We are facing a problem to migrate USER Metadata xml object from Dev to Test environment. A new custom UDF was created in Dev environment to fix some issues and it is working fine in Dev but when we have migrated/imported this new UDF in test environment the same is not getting reflected in UI pages (like in user attributes, auth policies etc.) though it is available in database.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
AmiteshHi,
This is a bug in 11.1.1.3.
I faced the same issue.
1)I was using base product release 11.1.1.3.0
2)User metadata from DEV in file User-DEV.xml. User metadata from PROD in file User-PROD.xml
3)Error message in ‘oim_server1-diagnostic.log’ displayed when attempting to import User-DEV.xml into clean PROD environment for the first time
4)Output of ‘desc USR’ on the USR table on PROD after import failed present in desc_usr.sql. Shows that fields were created in DB.
5)When we tried re-import, DM complained that UDF columns were already present. So, I altered the USR table manually (dropped the UDF columns – yes, I know it is a bad idea, I don’t usually do this…) and tried re-import. Different error this time around, present in error_after_field_deletion.log
So i would say create the UDF manually into the Test Environment.
I am not sure if it is resolved in any of the BP released as of now.

Hi all!
Recently I have noticed that my iPhoto 4 software is getting VERY slow when I import pictures. I have an iMac G4 with 512 mb of Ram and all of my photos on an external La Cie HD. It used to run quite well and then it started hanging up and taking a very long time to import. It no longer brings up the thumbnails when importing and can take 10 minutes to start the process. I have used a different memory card and different cameras all with the same results. I can't think of anything that changed, as in new hardware or software that could affect it. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is almost unusable as it is!
Thanks!
EricHi, Eric, and welcome to Apple Discussions. What is the total capacity of your iMac's hard drive, and how much space is available on it? (Click once on the drive's icon on the desktop and choose Get Info from the File menu.)
If you have less than 3-5GB of available hard drive space and/or if it's been a long time since you performed any routine maintenance on your Mac, it's due for a tuneup and perhaps a cleanup. Post back with the figures requested above and we'll take it from there. -
Premiere Pro CS3 Importing Issues
Hi all,
I'm new to Premiere, and I've been having issues with a project that I am trying to start. I am running Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 on Windows Vista. I want to import a file that was originally a .mkv file. Because Premiere does not use .mkv files, I simply changed the file extension to .avi. The file is about 1.42 GB. But whenever I try to import the file as a .avi, my program freezes and I get a (Not Responding) error on the dialog box at the top of the program. When this happens I am always forced to close the program. Am I experiencing this simply because the files I am attempting to import are too big? Or is it something else?
Also, if it is indeed because the files are too big, how can I get around this problem? I have tried using software such as VirtualDub and SolveigMM Video Splitter to cut the AVI files into smaller parts, but they do not seem to be working. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!
(By the way, I attached a JPEG file of a snapshot of what happens when I try to import into Premiere.)This is because you cannot simply rename a file's extension to "look like" a different format. An .mkv is as similar to an .avi as a goat is to an iguana. First, you may want to try something like this.
You can also try opening your MKV in VirtualDub (without renaming it ".avi"), which may work. I have read that recent releases of VirtualDub can handle (more or less) MKV files, but I have no experience with this myself. If this works, you can save it as an AVI from VirtualDub.
As for the AVI format, it is really just a "container." What matters more is the codec with which the AVI is compressed. A good choice is often DV (and here is a good free DV codec if you need one). However, DV only works with videos of certain resolution and framerate, so you may want to convert to an uncompressed AVI or use a codec like Lagarith.
Assuming you are able to find a decent MKV -> AVI converter, could you please post more details on your video, such as its resolution. It would also be helpful to know what format you plan to output your edited video as. -
CS5 and 6 slow down issue - was working fine
Hi Everyone
Hoping you can help as i've tried pretty much everything I can think of to resolve this. I've been running CS5.5 production premium for a while now, powerful PC, everything was running fast and working great.
Now, all of a sudden Photoshop keeps slowing down to a crawl - im talking massive slow down, the mouse cursor doesnt even move properly. No hardware has changed, and no major software changes, all CS5 is up to date. All my other CS programs (after effects, illustrator etc) are working fine. Tried re-installing CS5, I also installed the PS CS6 trial to see if that works, but it also suffers from the same slow down issue.
So if anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate them! Before I have to do a complete clean install of the whole system.
Thanks
JackMore details on your set-up might be helpful.
Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)? -
Slow flash issue STILL OCCURRING. Can I please get a response?
If you guys don't mind, can you please vote for the following issue below, so it can get more attention for the support team?
https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3155813
I've been experiencing this issue for almost 2 years now and so far, I've tried the latest Flash 11.3 beta build, but that did not solve the problem.
Ever since I've upgraded to the latest flash player(11.2), for some reason, when I view certain flash videos online, the video moves really slow. The audio is fine, but the video frames doesn't seem to move normal and not sync correctly with the audio. This happens on both Fire Fox and Chrome while using
Windows XP SP 3 Home Edition
Steps I've tried:
1. Reinstalling Fire Fox/Chrome
2. Reinstalling Adobe Flash Player(Yes, I even followed the tutorials from this site)
3. Reinstalling Shockwave Player
4. Enabling/Disabling Hardware Acceleration on both Fire Fox/Chrome and the video settings.
5. Increasing the webstorage for certain websites.
6. Obtaining the latest drivers from my manufacture.
None of those steps helped. This is most likely an issue on the new Flash Player version
When I've ran a previous version, I never had this problem.
The best thing I can do right now is wait for some more info from the bug report I submitted a long time ago.
So I ask, how or when this can be fixed? I don't wish to downgrade to older flash versions, as it's too risky and there are some flash content I can't use. Both HTML and non HTML videos are playing slow for me. If a video is at 360p or above it will play slow unless it's at 240p. But I never came across this issue when I went back to an older version and used it for awhile. Any site that has a JWPlayer or Divx player are other examples.
