Help me overclock cpu on p4m900m2-l

MSI P4M900M2-L
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 (2.2ghz)
2 x 1 GB A-Data (PC2-5300) 667mhz ( timing 5-5-5-15)
MSI N220GT-MD1GB
Western Dgital 80GB
BIOS Version 5.6
When i increase FSB (200 Normal) if i go any higher then 205 FSB, im geting BLUE SCREAN or pc dont wat to start. if anyone know whats the problem please tell me. btw i see on forums that E4500 its good processor to overclock, i will be happy if i can hit 2.6ghz

Sounds like a memory issue if your trying to get a faster cpu speed then try leaving FSB to 200 and stepping the cpu multiplier up. it could be that increasing fsb freq. is causing to much stress on your ram and causing the BSD. Resreach your ram and make sure they can handle this increase you could be at their max range. Just a thought.
Hope this helps

ps. It has been my experience that on a intel set up you gain more overclocking the CPU vs FSB.
however on a AMD set up you gain more of a gain in power increasing the FSB vs the CPU lol go figure

  • Need help finding overclocking settings in BIOS on my Z97 Gaming 7

    Hello Folks!
As the title states I need some help finding some settings in the BIOS to help in overclocking on my awesome new MSI Z97 Gaming 7 mobo! For instance I can't find anything related to Load Line Calibration, LLC. I am unable to find additional settings for PLL and what the settings that are there do, for instance CPU PLL, the options are something like LL and SB? There is no explanation for what either of these are. These may be pretty basic things in overclocking Intel. I should also mention that I am new to Intel processors and their mobo's. I have always used AMD cpu's and overclocking seemed a bit more straight forward. This is also the first MSI motherboard I have owned so I am also new to these. I have been a great fan of MSI GPU's for years and finally had the chance to buy a motherboard and while it has been a great experience thus far I seem to be slighty behind the learning curve here. I do appreciate all the help I am able to get. I have read the guides that I have seen others pointed towards and have not really found the information I am looking for there.

Nichrome, thank you for the heads up concerning placing my rig info into my signature, I will do that immediately. Thanks for trying to help. I really do appreciate it. I am very familiar with overclocking on the AMD platform. I have previously owned and abused the PhenomII 965BE, 1055T FX-8320 and FX-8350. I guess switching from AMD to Intel and being confronted by so many new terms and settings in the BIOS I was kind of lost. I wasn't really too concerned with the PLL per say other than just desiring to know as much about my new system and motherboard as possible. I have always been a firm believer that to get the most out of your equipment you need to know it intimately, I guess I will get there with a bit of time and perseverance! I was really mainly trying to figure out where the LLC settings would be hidden or what they would be known as with an Intel based system, this setting is usually quite important when trying to stabilize higher overclocks. I am currently running and tinkering with an OC speed of 4.7-4.8GHz @ 1.275v with temps staying ~55C. I was hoping to push a little further and was trying to give myself the best possible advantage in doing so. Again, thanks for the help and information!!!

    FIRST overclock my GPU;
My GPU is R9100 core default at 250Mhz(MEM At 250Mhz DDR 4ns)
    now I overclock my GPU core to 299Mhz(MEM at 276.25Mhz);& running at 3DMark2001SE and through it successful; But when the core rate over 300Mhz and run again in 3DMark2001SE ; I find every time will shutdown at the same place(Drogan fourth sence);and the ATI VPU will work;
Now I use 3DMark2003 Pro TO test my oc card ! I set my GPU core rate to 311Mhz(default at 250MHZ); but this time through it perfectly!!!(run many times!)The picture is very beautiful!!!
    OC=(313-250)/250=25.2%(Good)
I don't know it may some bugs in 3DMark2001SE??

  • Help me overclock my CPU

I got a 1.8 Northwood and a 865G or PE board or somethin like that and I was wondering what would be the best settings for overclockin this sob?

Sorry guys, didn't check forum over the weekend
    utk,
I can get 296 FSB from my processor, but I have to relax all my memory timings (2.5-4-4-8 + 8 burst) and set memory frequency to 333 MHz to achieve this. This still gives me the best Sandra Memory Bandwidth and benchmarking I can currently achieve, but this is mainly due to not being able to force the mobo to CAS Lantecy of 3 so cannot run memory @ rated speed.
    (See my seperate thread)
I WOULD NOT EXPECT THIS FROM ALL P4 2.4c, MOST TOP OUT @ BETWEEN 250 AND 275 FSB - I WAS JUST LUCKY TO STUMBLE ACROSS THIS PEACH (3RD TRY)
    Eric + utk,
My methodology is always the same and fairly simple:-
As per previous message lock down AGP / PCI, set everything to the slowest possible (memory timings as wide as possible, DOT off, MAT slow) and slowly (dependant on processor, but as a guide steps of 5 MHz from standard FSB upwards) increase the FSB.
At Windows start up, verify settings (I use CPU-Z), benchmark memory (I use Sandra Memory Bandwidth Test), and stress test (Initially, I use Toast, then when I get close to FSB limit for more thorough testing Real Storm - this website advocates prime95 and has loads of info as to where to get it and how to use it properly).
When you get an error or a lock up, go back to your previous known good and increase 1 MHz at a time. When you think you've got a stable system, really stress test it (RealStorm or prime95 on looped repeat overnight or more and Memtest for same.) If it fails, back it off some more and repeat.
Finally, try different combinations of narrower memory timings to see just how much extra bandwidth you can squeeze out of it.
When your confident you have a stable system, perform your chosen benchmarks (my P4 machine is a pure games machine, so for me it's [H]ard OCP UT2K3, Serious Sam, and TRAOD, but its entirely your choice).
Now you have all your data for a slow memory frequency, repeat the procedure for your higher memory frequencies to find which FSB / Memory Frequency / Memory Timings setting give you the best results.
OMG! you've just realised that this is likely to take weeks
errrrrrr - yes, OCing is a slow, tedius, boring, methodical process. Once you start to gain some experience and read what sort of overclocks other people are getting on a particular processor, then it's possible to cut a few corners and have a reduced risk of blowing your CPU, but you can almost guarentee that sooner or later you will blow 1
SO IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE IT - DON'T DO IT!!!
Finally, I would advocate the best HSF you can buy (I consider Swiftech, Thermalright, and Zalman to be the best - in that order), a seperate temperature monitor (I have the Akasa fan control pro) and as much cooling as your ears can stand. (Next time you have some cash burning a hole, think about a new case with plenty of airflow and BIG fans - Antec Sonata and Super LANBOY both now come with 120 mm fans!!! slow, quiet, and more efficient than Thermaltakes 7 80mm screamers!!!)
Heat is the enemy, I try to keep my CPU below 65oC. You're in the BIOS to modify your settings, so check the temperatures while you're there!
Hope this helps a little and good luck. Man this turned into a novel!!!

  • Can no longer overclock CPU after installing 4890 Cyclone OC

I recently purchased a MSI 4890 Cyclone OC to replace my XFX 8800 GT.  With the 8800 GT, I was able to overclock my E8400 to 3.6 GHz from 3 GHz stock.  After I installed the 4890, my PC will no longer accept any CPU overclock.  When I power on my system with any OC, the PC will start to come up, power cycle itself before POST and reset the BIOS back to default clock speeds, and finish booting into Windows XP Home.  Even with no OC, the PC seems to take longer to POST than with the 8800 GT.
I uninstalled the Nvidia driver before installing the 4890 and installed the latest ATI driver v. 9.8.  I flashed my motherboard's BIOS to the latest version, set it to the defaults, and then put my OC settings back in.  However, that didn't help.
I read in the NCIX forum that someone else had this exact same problem with his 4890 Cyclone, and he had a different model Gigabyte board.  I'm wondering if there is some sort of incompatibility.  Thanks for any help.

    Quote
I put my 8800 GT back into my PC and I can overclock my CPU just fine again.
Yes, I understood you the first time.
    Quote
I have not talked to Gigabyte yet since my problems only occur with the 4890 installed.
That it precisely why I suggested to contact Gigabyte.  Maybe they can reproduce it and come up with a BIOS Fix or something.  I had a 4890 Cyclone here for testing last week which I used to build a system for a friend.  I had no such issues when I tested the card in my P45 Platinum (E6600 overclocked to 400 x 9) and he also has no problems on his P45 Asus Board (OCed Q9650).

  • Help me overclock plz

    sup guys...
can u guys gimme some tips to overclock my cpu...i have an amd 2100+...i wanna get the best out of my computer...can u plz help

Just a little confused, you say you have 2100+ but you equipment list shows a 3000+ cpu.  The are several programs you can use to help set up you BIOS to oc the cpu and fsb. You can do it manually with the mobo you have and you can start by setting the fsb to 175 and multiplier to 10.  These are low numbers but they are good starts.  Then if you want to go higher on the fsb, increase it by 5 but watch your temps on the cpu in PC Health of Bios.  At some point the unit will not boot up if you go to far.  Then you will have to reset your CMOS.
The easiest thing to due is download FuzzyLogic 4 or Core Center and let them get you into a starting range.

  • Need help guide overclocking newbie msi p43 neo

Hello i just wanted to ask for guide help tutorial ( no OC experience)  on how to do a mild overclock my cpu e7400 + (msi p43 neo) my main goal is 3.0 Ghz with a 1333 fsb. Im still researching guides but its still a bit complicated. My concerns are on the bios  high incriments on the cpu voltage adjuster i can only adjust with increments of 1.141 next is 1.441 then 1.641 is it too high? i am using the default bios. Im not planning on adjusting my memory its at 800 Mhz
ATM at the bios i can see my default fsb is at 266 x 10.5 = 2.8 Ghz my plan is adjusting it to 286 x 10.5 = 3.03 Ghz.
My question is how will i raise the fsb to 1333? by adjusting the fsb on the bios am i only adjusting the cpu clock? and is the cpu voltage same as the vcore( the thing they adjust when OCing ) which i cant locate on the bios only cpu voltage..
And as a backup plan if all fails when trying to OC flashing bios is the right thinkg to do?
really srry if this is the wrong place to post. If theres any links(guides) with pics same bios you can give would be a tremendous help. thx

    Hi,
just a few first comments, so that you don't get onto the wrong track:
    Quote
by adjusting the fsb on the bios am i only adjusting the cpu clock?
The FSB Frequency is the base frequency for both the CPU Frequency and the memory frequency.  The CPU Frequency is always calculated like this:
(real) FSB Clock Speed x CPU Ratio/Mutiplier = CPU Frequency
The Memory Frequency is adjusted via the FSB/DRAM Ratio Option.  If the FSB Frequency is set to 266 MHz the memory will run @DDR2-800 if the FSB/DRAM Ratio is set to 1:1l5...:
    266 MHz FSB x 1.5 = 400 MHz (= DDR2-800 effectively)
When you raise the FSB Frequency you have to make sure that the FSB/DRAM Ratio you have set in BIOS will not overclock your memory beyond its specifications.  It is not a good idea to leave the FSB/DRAM Ratio set to "AUTO" when you are overclocking.

Have you browsed through all the values the BIOS allows you to set in order to check if there are other values available?  Setting the CPU Voltage to 1.441 or 1.641 is not really something you should do.  1.441V is already quite high but 1.641V is definately too much.  Leave the CPU Voltage on AUTO for now and see how far you can get without adjusting the CPU Voltage (check the actual Voltage with CPU-Z).
    Quote
and is the cpu voltage same as the vcore
    Yes.

You probably won't need to increase any critical voltage levels for that.  This is a really, really moderate overclock.  Just see what happens if you adjust the FSB Clock Speed to 286 MHz without changing anything else in BIOS (well, keep Spread Spectrum and DOT disabled at all times when you overclock),
    Quote
And as a backup plan if all fails when trying to OC flashing bios is the right thinkg to do?
No, that is definately the wrong thing to do.  If the system refuses to start after you changed certain BIOS Options, clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from your PSU.  This will erase all settings and make the BIOS prompt you to reset everything.

Alright, now you see what I have. That is just about everything excluding things like my wireless mouse and keyboard.
So, I have been perfecting this build for awhile now, but I'm not the most experienced at overclocking. I've used about 5-6 motherboards during about a year trying to get my 3770k to overclock. Yes, I wasted quite a bit of money. I recently RMA'd my CPU because I thought it was defective since I failed to overclock. Now, I have a brand new one. Then, I switched my 2133 G.Skill Sniper memory for more basic Corsair  memory. I thought possibly it could have been my memory that was causing issues since it was about the only non-new part left up until now. Now, this build is has all completely new parts. I don't think anything is defective.  Lastly, my OS has recently been installed. About 2 days ago. All drivers /windows updates are up to date.
Alright, I gave my opinion on my hardware / OS and explained that. So, now I will try to explain my overclocking attempts. I first tried to overclock using the basic OC Genie II settings untouched. However, that didn't work out for me. I did get BSODs eventually or programs that crashed. Sometimes, games have crashed. I'm not doing anything overly important on this computer. I have a lot of other non-overclocked computers for various things like work ect. So, I am free to be able to play with this computer and try to get it OC'd properly. So, don't worry about that. I've read about 10-20 guides on overclocking and such, and for some reason I can't get things to be stable to the point that programs don't crash or fail. It seems with the Z77A-G65, there's no offset voltage tweaking option. If there is, I can't find it. I've read a lot that if you disable all power saving and use a fixed voltage that it can be more stable than using an offset voltage. Higher temps and more power usage I know.
So far, I've tried both, and neither have really worked for me. If I put vdroop offset control to 100% my temperatures increase but it can handle it. So, I tried setting the CPU to be fixed at 1.3 while at 4.5ghz. That was still not stable. Prime was ok, but some games and programs crashed. So, it wasn't stable for real world usage. Most of the time actually prime will be ok unless I try to put it at 4.8ghz with mostly default settings. So, after I tried 4.5ghz and 1.3 fixed voltage with no power saving options on, I tried bringing the voltage up to 1.350 which increased the temperature under load to about 85C. This wasn't stable either, so I went up a bit higher, well alot in overclocking standards. I went up to 1.4 just to see the temperatures and it got up to about 85C a occasionally higher. This was not stable either. So I tried turning off all C states and other power saving options and setting the vdroop offset control to 100% while also setting the voltage to auto. This wasn't stable. Usually when I set the voltage to auto , it will crash at anything above 4.7ghz and not boot. Anything below that it will boot, and even be capable of running prime or intel burn test, but it won't remain completely stable with all applications. Even basic programs like Firefox crashes sometimes. I do have one program that is pretty nice for benchmarking in the real world, and that's Amazon's cloud drive uploader. I ran it for a bit and it will eventually crash if I'm overclocking. I have tried some games like Diablo 3, Borderlands 2, ect and they have crashed as well on a clean windows 8 install.
I've also tried some of the turbo templates that only OC during turbo boost but idle at normal speeds/ 1.6ghz. This wasn't stable either. So, I'm at a loss, I've tried Turbo overclocking, Fixed voltage overclocking, offset voltage overclocking, power saving options on , and power saving options off. No luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

First off, Ivy CPU's under conventional cooling solutions are terrible OC'ers. 85C is too hot for everyday use under stress. Mid 70C's or better still, less is recommended. All significant power saving features are lost once the CPU V. is taken out of Auto. VDroop at 100% supplies the most voltage and decreases it as the percentage is lowered. Turbo OC is often the best over a CPU Ratio OC. From what I can read, the CPU you have is average and should run stable at 44X or maybe 45X on Auto CPU V., all power saving features intact.
32GB of RAM is great for rendering, graphics and audio/video creation, but if the goal is a gaming machine, 8GB to 16GB is more than enough.
    Added: Recommended settings; SA 0.965-0.970v's, PLL 1.82-1.84v's, I/O 1.07v's.

  • Help with Overclocking my i7 920 on X58 Pro-E

Can someone please give me some step by step instructions on how to overclock my i7 920 on my X58 Pro-e board? I have the following specs- X58 Pro-E, i7 920 co stepping, H50 hydro cooler, 6 gigs Corsair 9-9-9-24 1600, GTX460-SE 1Gig, OCZ Stealthxstream 600 watt, 1 tb Western Digital, running Vista home Premium 64 bit.
I have been able to get it to 3.6 but after that I have problems with the memory I think. But I think it should be able to do much better if the voltage and or timings were set correctly.
So if you guys can walk me through it that would be great. Thanks  John

    Dear John,
Your initial posting did not contain any information as to what you had tried to achieve in terms of Overclocking your system, neither does it indicate that you had made any attempts at trying to gather information in terms of general OC'ing for the i7/X58 platform. These are normal processes one would go through before having an expectation of someone dishing out a "magic formula" that will give you what you want in terms of an OC. OC'ing a system must start with a reason for wanting to do so. i.e. faster gaming, higher theoretical benchmarks, improved video rendering times, increased folding performance, experimentation or just plain an ego trip and being able to post a nice number somewhere.
Your reasons of wanting to do a higher OC are unknown and quite frankly have got nothing to do with us. You decided on a Sunday to do some OC'ing and it seems after some frustrating time, gave up and came to the forum. Now being a weekend, and this forum being monitored by users just like you, most forum users were probably having their Sunday BBQ and relaxing, oblivious to the fact you were out there crying for help. Some people actually do have other things to do than just sit in front of the PC to wait for someone like you.
Anyhow, come Monday, people are off to work and will probably have some spare time during or after work to see if they can be of assistance with users posing specific questions regarding their rig combinations and the exact detail of what has been done to get around the problems.
Your patience was obviously tested by that time and you start your next post with a "not so nice"  set of assumptions and statements.Quote
Well it looks like no one wants to help or can't!
       Quote
I think I will just sell my MSI board and buy a Gigabyte or Asus as they seem to have a much better forum with people that have the seem boards and are willing to Help!
        Quote
Last MSI product that I will buy.
This put some questions in my mind regarding your homework in terms of your decision to acquire the combo you did. Was it a spur of the moment decision or was some research conducted in terms of the hardware selection based on comparing reviews and visiting the forums beforehand to establish if the intended hardware does actually satisfy the targeted/expected outcome.
The first thing you do is to threaten other users of MSI products that you will sell your board to buy something else.
A bit of searching on the net regarding general OC'ing would have given you enough information to establish the basics. Once those don't work out for you, then the time comes to state those and request assistance.
If you search this forum you will find hundreds of threads where the best advice in the world has been provided because the person wanting assistance has provided a bit more detail than you have, with a clear indication that they actually did do some effort in terms of research.
In order to assist you, perhaps you could start anew by providing your current BIOS settings and posting screenshots of your CPU-Z memory and SPD tabs. That's always a good place to start.   You may be surprised at the amount of advice forthcoming when people can see the whole picture...

Anyone tried over clocking cpu ?
Is it safe to do with nokia booklet 3g processor (z530)  please advice!!

Jesus !! why on earth do you people want to overclock that little atom thing? it is designed to run at lower clock speeds to improve cooling and power consumption.do you know that it voids ur warranty? and when it (processor) is damaged and you take it for service, they can make out it's overclocked and will offer no free replacement, even though the OS might not be there to show a proof that u've overlocked - yes, it's ur own risk.
It's not always about KUDOS, but to make people happy with their Nokia. get the most of your Nokia. And be happy with what u get ......yet, please dont forget to press KUDOS if my post helped to solve your problem kudos=Rep++

    anyway
ive tried sevrel times to overclock my cpu through the bios and reached 215MHz only... after that the system gets stuck even though the cpu temp isnt really high...
after a while i discoverd the overclocking option in CORE CENTER and tried to over clock through there and everything went fine but when i reached like 230MHz the system got REALLY slow
and i noticed that i dont know  about the voltages that need to b changed and everything
if any1 can help plz help

I have looked at the example they have here on the site and it shows the corecenter with a red circle with OC in it for overclocked.  No where can I see where this is on my core center.
I ended up in the bios and selected "Private" and "Ultra Turbo" and some other settings can't remember what but it got the chip up to 3500mhz.  How do I take this further or what's the purpose of the "General" setting as opposed to the "private" setting?
How do I boost the FSB speed?
    What does PSB stand for?
Just open up those stupid side wings and you can adjust your speeds there.  Like Nykon said, it's better to go in the bios and do it.  Corecenter is good for checking CPU temps and fan speeds.
The Private setting falls under Dynamic Overclocking or D.O.T. for short.  It's a process that's controlled through the Corecell chip that detects when the CPU is under load and adjusts your FSB accordingly.  I'm not sure if it controls voltages, but I don't think that it does.  The deferent settings in D.O.T. just means you are allowing for more overclocking with D.O.T.  So Private would be the slowest (5% performance boost) and general would be the fastest (maybe 20-30% boost).  However, when OC'ing manualy it's best to disable this function.
Performance mode just tightens up your ram timings for better performance, which you can manually do under Advanced Chipset Features.
FSB can be adjusted in your Freguency/Voltage window in bios, it is the "Adjust CPU Clock Speed" heading.
PSB stands for Pet Shop Boys, but FSB stands for Front Side Bus.
