Help me restore my iMac please.

Okay there is something seriously wrong with my iMac and I don't have any type of support left from Apple. My iMac has been running really slow lately and even freezing when just having Firefox and iTunes open it's ridiculous. I'm trying to just restore and start out fresh, but my iMac won't restore! I have put in both my original Leopard disc that came with my iMac and my Snow Leopard disc and my computer just won't boot them. My optical drive reads and writes discs just fine normally.
Here is a video of what goes on when I try to restore.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7_cmUrm9kA
I'm also trying to reformat my hard drive to one partition and not that 5 that it some how has become. http://imgur.com/IpqVx.png

I did create a new user and password for the fresh install. It prompted me to do that. And there was a Home icon with my username next to it. The user name is different to the user name on the back up volume.
It still didn't work. All the applications were copied but the desktop wasn't.
It said at the end of the procedure that it had been successful and would I like to quit. So I quit.
I don't know why it won't migrate. I didn't upgrade any software this time.
When I was installing the OSX disc (after erasing the hard drive), it said toward the end of the process, would I like to put files on it. And it gave me choices, Time machine, another mac etc. I said "Yes" but I only have one USB port on my computer and the install disc was attached to it through the USB port. So I disconnected the install disc and attached the external hard drive, because the message was "You can connect the other drive" or something like that. But it didn't recognize it so I just gave up and reattached the drive with the OSX install disc and went back to the installation stage that I was at and chose "Do not do it now, do it later" or something like that. Then it took me through the last few steps of installation. And after it finished, I used Migration Assistant and it still didn't work. I still have an empty Desktop though Applications successfully migrated. I don't know why I can't get the same desktop as my backup volume.

  • HELP RESTORE MY iMAC PLEASE!!!!!

Sorry but very frustrated here. My hard drive on my 320gb original drive is full so I had a 2TB put in. I have a wireless back up on Time Machine, the old hard drive in an external inclosure and an external hard drive back up that I used Carbon Copy Clone. When I follow instructions for restoring with CCC, I never seem to be able to select the right files when I click on the back up drive. When I try using my Time Capsule, I insert the Snow Leopard install disk, reboot to the Utilities area and it never shows me any of my back ups, it just says something to the effect of search for Time Machine back ups and never finds anything. If you can help, please respond with idiot proof step by step instructions. I really appreciate the input!!!

You want to start up from the clone, then clone back to the new HD.
First, make sure the new drive is formatted properly. See #1 in [Formatting, Partitioning, Verifying, and Repairing Disks|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/DU.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Using Snow Leopard+ forum). Start from your Install disc, per the yellow box there.
Then quit Disk Utility, select +Startup Disk+ from the Utilities menu, and start up from the clone.
Then start CCC and follow it's instructions to copy the clone to the new HD.
That will be much faster than trying to restore from your Time Capsule, even via Ethernet, much less WIFI.

  • I just bought my MacBook Pro 13" and I tried to install an anti virus but then it went into a grey folder with a question mark I need help with restoring the iOS please

I need help taking out the grey folder with the question mark and I've try everything except the CD thing because my MacBook didn't come with one so I really need help please

What anti-virus software did you install? Although there's a lot of bad anti-virus software out there, no anti-virus software should cause such a problem. A gray screen with a flashing question mark on a folder means that no bootable system could be found, which means that the system was badly damaged or corrupt. Even installing bad software would not normally cause that, so either there was something badly wrong with the system already or the anti-virus software you tried to install was really, really bad!
As mende1 says, you need to reinstall the system at this point. After your system is back up and running, read my Mac Malware Guide. If, after reading that, you want anti-virus software, use one of the programms recommended in that guide.

  • I tried restoring my iMac 27" slim. I followed the steps erased my data then to reinstall osx mavericks. Now that I'm trying to reinstall osx mavericks for whatever reason it doesn't completes. Can you help me out?

That's not quite the proper way as far as I can tell. Usually, one boots directly into the Recovery HD using COMMAND and R keys at startup. If you cannot do that then most likely there is a problem with the hard drive. Since this is a new computer i would make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • My all contacts are available after switching to iCloud from Mobileme.  Please help to restore all my contacts.

I switched from Mobileme to iCloud last night.
My iphone show all contacts properly.
But, I can't see any of contacts from my Mac and pc.
    My all contacts are gone.
Please helpe to restore all my contacts.
I sync my ipone and mac.
    Thanks,
    dolphin

Your signature says you have 10.6.2: is this correct? Lion 10.7.2 is required for syncing with iCloud - you cannot sync your contacts on 10.6.2. All you can do is go to http://icloud.com , select Contacts, click the top contact and then the bottom one while holding the shift key to select them all; click on the cogwheel at bottom left and choose 'Exort vCard'.
Then go to Address Book on your Mac, from the File menu choose 'Import' and select your vCard. This will restore the contacts to your Mac but they will not sync with iCloud.

Trying to reset/restore my daughters ipod, but no matter what advice I get, nothing works.  There is no summary tab on itunes to restore/reset.  PLEASE HELP!

Without knowing current status of the iPod:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Dear Apple – Please help me restoring my purched iTunes tracks on my ned laptop

Dear Apple – Please help me restoring my purched iTunes tracks on my ned laptop.
I've bougt some new songs and they just disappeared from my computer and my iphone. How do I get them back? Please help! I'm from Denmark - I don't know if that make any difference!?

You are not addressing anyone working for Apple here. We are all just users such as yourself.
Regretably, the iTunes in the Cloud service is not available for music in Denmark:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085. You will not be able to re-download any music purchases. You'll need to restore from your local backup.

The cellular data services have disappeared from my settings. Can anyone help me restore it please?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
