Help me save my Windows Bootcamp partition before restore

I have tried all the suggestions and recommendations out there. MBP only hangs on Boot, grey screen w/spinning wheel. If I hold option, I see both my mac drive and Windows XP bootcamp drive partition. I can boot into Windows perfectly.So my question is how do I clone/copy my windows partition before residing to a complete Mac software restore. I have days of configuration set up on the windows partitioin and really don't want to lose it. Thank

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with ONE computer at a time. If you attempt to sync such content with a second computer, ALL itunes content will first be erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature & cannot be overridden. Because you formatted your computer, the iphone will see your computer as a "new" computer.
1.First, disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected, in preferences, in itunes, which in windows is in the edit menu.
2. Put one contact & one event in whatever programs you use for that purpose on your computer, they can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is to have one entry in each.
3. Connect your phone, itunes running, DO NOT SYNC.
4. Go up to Store>Authorize this Computer.
5. Go up to File>Transfer Purchases. All of the purchased itunes content on your phone will be transferred, music you ripped on your own will not be transferred. You will have to use third party software to first extract that music from your phone BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. Same for photos not in your camera roll, the photo sync is one way...computer to phone. 6. Right click the phone in the device pane & select Reset Warnings.
7. Right click the phone, again, & select Backup.
8. Right click the phone, again, & select Restore from Backup. Select the backup you just made.
9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select as before from the various tabs.
You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.

Do I need to remove Bootcamp Partition before restoring with Time Machine

Hello - anyone familiar with this scenario.
I have used TIME MACHINE from the very first day I had my iMac. So it was started almost immediately after the initial boot of a brand new iMac case I ever needed to restore my Mac to that initial Day 1 state.
That day has come, but it's now two years, and in that time I have installed BOOTCAMP, Parallels and Windows 7. That process created another partition, and created the required 'links' between my OSX and Windows via Parallels etc.
So my question is this - can I do a 'Restore from Time Machine' over the top of the new partioned set up of my iMac OR or will it be now totally confused because of the changes I have made to my system in that time, and do I firstly need to remove Windows, Bootcamp, and erase the partitions I created back to one.
So in summary - will Time Machine do this when it restores, or do I need to do it before I restore?
I also have a CARBON COPY CLONE from Day 1 too. Am I better using that instead - and if so, same question - will i need to remove Windows, and my Bootcamped partion first?
(My system is iMac late 2012 still running OSX Mountain Lion if that makes any difference)

You are using the BC Windows and running it as VM. There is no separate VM with virtual disk.

So my question is, will the TIME MACHINE restore get rid of WINDOWS and the BOOTCAMP partition for me as part of its restore - or do i have to that, and then restore using Time Machine
It is much simpler to run BC Assistant and use the last option - "Remove Windows". It is a bit cleaner.

As above, I am not bothered about keeping Windows or the BOOTCAMP partition, I want to resore my iMac to the DAY 1 status - when I did my first full Time Machine backup - which was before I created a Bootcamp partition or installed Windows.
I suggest removing Windows via BCA and backing up to Time Machine. You will keep you OS X intact and keep all your files on the OS X side.

Yeah, just open Boot Camp Assistant, restore the hard drive to a single partition and then redo the partitions again. You should have a bare minimum of about 50GB as @The hatter said. You might want to just divide equally, that's usually the easiest thing to do.

Factory reset of a Windows (Bootcamp) partition

I just recently did a system recovery of my Mac OS X partition and imported only the User files because the system files had somehow become corrupted. I would like to do the same thing for my Bootcamp partition, but I am not sure of what program to use to erase the Bootcamp partition that would also allow me to access the Windows 7 recovery file. Do I use disk utility via the Mac partition or do I use the system configuration via the Windows 7 partition? I don't want to do a full backup and restore, but I want to do a partial one where I can get only the files that I really need back on.

If you erased and installed the MacintoshHD partition and restored that new and just your files, then you should be able to option/alt key boot into the Windows BootCamp partition like before which then you can backup files out of that to a external drive, then boot back into OS X and use the BootCamp Utiliy to remove the BootCamp Partition and start all over again with a fresh Windows install.
There is System Restore in Windows, type System Restore in the Windows Start Menu to go to it, it allows you to restore your Windows and installed Apps back to a earlier state, but keeps your files intact.
Then you Windows Update and check all your third party software and browser plugins for updates.
Then you update your anti-virus definitions and run a scan on the drive to detect malware on your users files and delete, restore those from backup.
There is the rare malware that really hoses a Windows machine so even System Restore doesn't work, but your supposed to use WinClone 3 in OS x to backup the BootCamp partition so it can be restored from OS X.
So that's your options.

The header is all I want to know guys, im reinstalling OS X due to some probs with CrossOver and I just wanted to know what will happen to my windows bootcamp partition.

When you go to reinstall OS X, it will pull up the HD and ask you where to install it and you get to choose the partition. It will leave the Windows partition alone.
Now, if you choose to do a complete erase and install and instruct Disk Utility to erase the hard drive and remove all partitions - it will do just that.

Help! Win 8.1 Bootcamp partition vanished

Hi all
My Windows 8.1 Bootcamp partition has vanished.
Last night I was playing a Windows game, all was well and I shutdown the machine at the end of the night. This morning I got up, powered up the Mac Pro and noticed it was stuck in an OSX reboot cycle. I held the alt key down and the 3 boot partitions popped up OSX, Recovery, Windows 8. I selected Recovery and ran the Disk Utility, "Check" disk tool. It reported that the EFI was bad so I clicked on Repair. It then said it couldn't repair it. I rebooted again and this time there are now only two options, OSX and Recovery. I clicked OSX which loaded fine. I have no idea how this happened when the machine was off over night and fine the night before in both Windows and OSX.
So now I have no way to boot into Windows on my new Mac Pro 2014 machine.
Bootcamp is on the internal SSD along with OSX
I have never resized the partitions
I have not installed anything new in the last few weeks
I do not visit dodgy websites and run Malware bytes anti malware regularly (never found an issue to date)
Last night I added a secondary HDMI monitor
The day before yesterday I unplugged everything and rearranged my office
I uninstalled Parallels Desktop Trial (expired) 1 week ago from both Windows and OSX
I have backed up the Bootcamp partition to an external drive using Disk Utility
I CAN browse the bootcamp partition using finder and the folders and files are all visible.
New Mac Pro. 512GB SSD, OSX 10.9.3, 16GB Ram, Thunderbolt Display, HDMI Dell Display
Any help would be much appreciated as some of my key work software is on the BOOTCAMP windows install.

There is overcharging protection in the battery and the adapter, both. This can also be seen on OS X side under System Report -> Power. If you adapter is plugged in and the battery is charged, it will say 'Not charging' despite the fact that the power adapter is connected.

I am currently running OSX Snow Leopard, and i want to upgrade to OSX Yosemite, but i'm scared that upgrading to Yosemite will erase my Bootcamp partition.
so, Will upgrading to Yosemite kill the partition? or will it save it, so that after Yosemite is installed, i can still dual boot into Windows 7?

Also backup your OS X volume.
Windows has built-in backup software. You could also try WinClone X.

"System Progressive" virus on Windows/Bootcamp partition

Hi. I got the System Progressive virus (or a similarly named virus) on the Windows/Bootcamp side of my iMac. Can I use my time machine to restore the windows partition to a previous date? If I can, how do I do that safely without screwing up my system? Thank you in advance to anyone who can help answer my questions. These forums are great and I really appreciate all of the smart people who help us dummies out. You guys/gals are the best!

TM doesn't back up Windows, did you not use a Windows backup program at all?
Good luck with removing the virus but I would suggest removing and reinstalling Windows

Can you copy the Windows Bootcamp partition over to a new hard drive?

I'm out of space on my hard drive so I'm adding a larger one. I originally just wanted to use my time capsule for a backup, but then I remembered about my Windows partition.
What would be the most efficient way to copy both partitions from my original drive to the new drive for install?
I have a Macbook Pro 13in Late 2011 model and running OSX 10.9.5. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Backup your Windows software using Windows backup software to a Windows formatted disk. Create a new Boot Camp partition on the new drive. Install Windows on it, then restore your backup. You can also buy disk cloning software that can clone the system to another drive and restore the entire clone. I believe Acronis has such software.

PSCS 6 help with save as window

I am using Photoshop CS6. My "save as" window is fullscreen and I would like it back to the smaller window like it was. Can you help me to reduce that window size please?

Removing a Bootcamp Partition and restoring drive fully to OS X

Hi all
I currently have a small partition on my 27' imac allocated to Bootcamp which I now no longer require. I would like to remove this partition and restore the complete drive back to OSX without losing any vital info.
Yes, I have done research on this however I remain a little confused. I would be grateful if someone would take the trouble to confirm that this is possible and, if they have the time, write a simple step by step procedure for me.

As you may of read into my initial question I am not that confident in making changes to my system, in my profession as a photographer I have a lot of critical images that I cannot afford to lose.
I see within the Bootcamp Assistant I can remove the option to remove the Windows partition but I am not sure of the steps I further need to complete to restore the drive completely to the OS X system. Currently I have 100GB partitioned to Windows and I would like this space be available for my work.
Any step-by-step guide you can provide me would be very much appreciated.

Help needed with delete of bootcamp partition, error message 'Couldn't unmount disk'

Sorry if this issue has been repeated elsewhere, I did search but there wasn't a discussion relating to my specific issue.
When we bought the iMac a couple of years ago, my husband partitioned the hard drive to run Windows via Bootcamp. Having got used to the Mac and experiencing the frustration between having to reboot to access each partition I have decided to restore the Mac to factory settings and install Parallels 8 so I can continue to use Office and Coreldraw).
So having backed up all of my files, I started the Mac up holding the 'Alt' key and then loaded the Recovery HD mode followed by Disk Utility. I then selected Bootcamp and erased all data from the partition. [Note: there are 2 files left which it won't allow me to erase through this method]
I then selected the main drive and the tab 'Partition', from the layout I then selected Bootcamp and clicked the minus button. I get the message confirming which partition I am about to delete and hit remove. I then get the error message 'Partition failed: couldn't unmount disk'.
I would be very grateful for some help please? I am not the best techy person but happy to give anything a go.
Just to mention there is nothing left on the Mac that I want to keep, therefore if there is an easier way than having to delete the partition then happy to hear it.

Increase Mac partition after shrink Windows bootcamp partition

I have a Mid 2010 Macbook Pro running Mac OS X 10.9.4 with a 500GB HD.
The HD is partitioned with 370 GB to Mac and 128 GB to Windows and I decided to shrink the Windows partition to 65 GB because I needed more space on Mac, and I barely use Windows.
I resized the Windows Partition using Mini Tool Partition Wizard and moved it to the end of the disk, leaving the empty right after Mac partition.
I'm able to boot Windows partition and use it normally. The Windows C: disk now has 65 GB.
When I boot on Mac OS X and try to use disk utility to increase the Mac partition, it says that the Windows partition still has 128 GB.
It is possible to use the empty space I created?

Power off your computer. Power up your computer while pressing and holding pressed the option/alt key. When the boot manager appears, select OSX to boot.

Backing up my Windows BootCamp Partition

I know that OSX has Time Machine, but as far as I can tell, Time Machine doesn't back up your Boot Camp partition as well. Is there a program out there that will create an ENTIRE system image that I can save to an external drive? By ENTIRE system image, I mean all of my settings, program files, user information, drivers, EVERYTHING, not just the my documents folder.

Each operating system needs unique backup usually unless you have a server.
WinClone is popular for Windows, or DataBackupPC - there is an excellent thread here somewhere on backup software for Windows. Full image.
If you have a FAT partition, you can backup using Disk Utility to create a disk image and backup to that. Separately. Can't be used to restore though the way WinClone will.
