  • Sorting photos on iPhoto by device

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help with sorting photos on iPhoto on a MacBook Air. I have synced photos from two separate iPhone 5 devices that were under the same iCloud account and I would like to sort them by the devices. I cannot exactly remember which photos are from which device and I cannot used the Smart Album method as they are both iPhone 5 cameras
I do not mind how tedious it is as long as it gets the job done! Thank you very much

No - you can not do that in iPhoto (or probably in any software) - in iPhoto smart albums can collect photos by camera type but not by specific device - on by camera type

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
Additionally I have no idea what you are saying here
I have found the color palettes but can't seem to incorporate them into my backgrounds palette.
And it always helps for you to dientify the version of iPhoto that you are using

There is no convenient way to save the comments. You can copy the comments one by one and collect them in a document by pasting them there - a mail, a Pages document, or similar. Add the photo to the document and you have a record of the comments.  It will be a lot of tedious work, however.

  • Sorting images in iPhoto?

What is this issue with sorting photos in IPhoto? My process so far: I import photos from my iPhone. They appear in the 'Last Import" folder. (Or Last 12 Months - this happens from both folders.)
After the import from the phone is complete, I open the "Last Import" folder, select individual photos and drag them to the correct named albums that I've created under "Albums". Once the pics are moved to the albums, (and I check by opening, closing, and reopening those folders to be sure they're there) I then delete them from the Last Import" or "Last 12 Months" folder, to keep track of what's been filed and what hasn't.
This process seems to works fine. When I check the created albums, all images are filed correctly. And then, at some point, I go back and check - and all of the moved images from the entire work session are gone from their named albums. ?!  These files HAD been in those albums! now are gone. ?
I check the Trash file in iPhoto, and all photos seem to be there - I think. But now - the new **** is that I cannot sort the images directly from the Trash file back into the correct named albums, or any folder in iPhoto. All photos have to be dragged out from the Trash and into a file on my desktop. Then laboriously re-imported BACK into iPhoto, to start the whole lengthy, stupid, opaque process over again.
Obviously I'm missing a step, or something - but what?? I thought I was being very methodical. I have to say this is really annoying and counterintuitive for Apple. But please let me know what the correct process is. My greatest concern is that I have actually lost some images - but can't tell that without going through a much longer search of every album and folder…is it possible that some images have been permanently deleted?
Thanks in advance. Please excuse my frustration and exasperation.

    You're confusing a list with a place.
The only place in iPhoto that contains your actual photos is the Library. The Library has several ways of viewing:
Events: broken into chunks based on date and time
Photos: The whole thing as a single entity
Faces: Those photos you've categorised by people you've identified
Places: As above  but by locations on the planet.
Every Photo is in the Library. This is like iTunes, every song is in the Library. Playlists reference songs in the Library. So it's an user selected list of songs "that I would like played together".
An Album is a list of photos I would like to view together. Albums reference the Photos in the Library to make the list. They're not duplicated, just referenced. So it's the same photo in the Library as in the Album.
Because it's the same photo when you delete from the Library you also delete from the Albums.
Last Import, Last 12 Months, Flagged etc are all Lists not places. But they are a little different in that they reference the Library directly. When you delete from them you're deleting from the Library.  So the photos are deleted from all the Albums as well.
Last Import, Flagged etc are also Smart Albums. A Smart Album is - basically - a Saved Search. Think of it this way: Last Import is the answer to a Question: 'What are the last Photos I imported?' Flagged: 'What are the Photos I have Flagged' etc.
The only way to get photos out of the 'Last Import' is to have a different answer to the question: Import more photos.
So there is redundancy - several ways of doing things - in iPhoto, but no duplication.
So, import your Photos. Find them in the Library (Events or Photos View, doesn't matter) and drag from there to the Album of your choice.
And remember there are several ways to achieve the same thing.
You can restore photos from the iPhoto trash by right clicking on them and selecting 'Restore to Library'
To actually lose photos from iPhoto via the trash you would need to empty the iPhoto trash and thereafter empty the System Trash. Each time you will get a warning. At each step they are recoverable.

    The User Manual has this:
    Formatting Table Cell Borders
You can change the line thickness and color of table cell borders. Or you can hide the border of any cell.
    To format table cell borders:
1 Select the cell border segments you want to format.
2 Use the controls in the format bar or in the Table inspector.
Click to choose a stroke color.
Click to choose a stroke style.
Click to choose a line thickness.
Stroke pop-up menu:  Lets you choose a stroke style. Choose None to hide borders.
Line thickness:  Controls the thickness of the stroke.
Color well:  Lets you choose a stroke color.
When you click the color well in the format bar, a color matrix appears. Select a color by clicking it in the matrix, or click Show Colors to open the Colors window for additional color options.
When you click the color well in the Table inspector, the Colors window opens.

  • Corrupted iPod- Please help me sort it out!

    Hey everybody,
First of all thanks alot for trying to help me sort out my iPod; it's truly appreciated.
Basically i have had a 30GB 5th Gen iPod Video for about 18 months. It seemed alright but recently it has become corrupted. The iPod seems to work, but when i plug it into iTunes i get this message:
"Itunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted".
I have restored the iPod to factory settings as suggested, and retried connecting it to my computer but i cannot get the iPod to sync with iTunes.
Does anyone know what i can do to fix it? I don't think i dropped it very hard but i may have dropped my iPod after a night out recently...
    THANKS LOADS!!

    Hi oli_t,
If a second/third attempt at restoring your iPod does not work to fix that "corrupted" message you are getting in iTunes, then you may want to try running disk error checking (sometimes just called "chkdsk") on your iPod.
For instructions and info about that, see this MS document:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

  • IPhoto - Please Help Problem Sorting Photos

    Hi everyone,
I imported pictures into iphoto that had been taken with 2 different cameras, but all have similar dates within a certain time span. I imported my own pictures on the 6. October and the other ones on the 8th October. Although the pictures have both been taken in September, iPhoto puts my photos in the October section and uses this as "date taken" and the other photos are sorted correctly.
The Background is that I would like to do a slide show and it is very complicated to switch between the pictures and they are around 1000 in number.
By the way, does anyone know an easy way to adopt the Ken Burns effect of iphoto and then edit text and a audio track in imovie? I was used to Magix Video, which is really simple in handling and now on the mac I think imovie takes such a long time for rendering.
    Thank you for your answers.
    Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Macbook 2 Ghz 1,25 GB Ram 60 GB HD   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Yes, you can take advantage of the Ken Burns effect for a slideshow in iMovie. Just export the slideshow you made in iPhoto, and then it will be a Quicktime movie that you can import into iMovie to add audio and text to it.
If I understand correctly, your photos show a date in October instead of September. If you select all of the photos whose date you want to change, you can apply the date change to all of them at once. You can do this in the "information" window that toggles in the lower left corner of iPhoto.
Please let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

  • Sorting out multiple iPhoto libraries

    Hello
This is my first time posting on apple support....
I've looked through many discussions and can't find the full answer to my questions so am posting a new question (apologies, if I am duplicating something I missed).
Ok, so we (Husband and I) are new Mac users so not very familiar with Macs in general, but so far liking the transition away from PC etc
We both set up iPhoto libraries under our own user accounts, naively thinking we could share each other libraries and be able to edit each other's photos.  We were hoping to be able to have access to all our photos, edit etc and thus avoid duplicates and generally be much more efficient in organizing our photos.
I have subsequently discovered this is not possible as we had hoped, and from my research I believe the best approach is to have one library on a shared folder that we both can access and edit.  And we are aware that we can only have this one library open under one user at a time, i.e. one user needs to quit iPhoto before the other user logs in and opens iPhoto.
So based on what I have read, my plan was to:
    1) Set up a sparse disk image on the shared folder that we can both access with read/write permissions
    2) Back-up existing libraries via time machine
    3) Rename my iphoto library (let's call it W library)
    4) Back up via time machine
    5) Move W library to disk image
    6) Move husband's iphoto library to disk image
    7) Back up again
    8) Use iPhoto library manager to merge both libraries into one "master" library
    9) Back up
    10) Use single master library from either account
However, this hasn't quite gone to plan and I would like to ask for some help. BTW, we have Mac OS x version 10.6.7 and iPhoto version 9.1.3.
Is this a sensible plan to achieve a shared iPhoto library that we can both edit (given that we have already set up libraries under each account that have different photos in)
If so, what is the advantage of setting up a disk image over just using the shared folder as is?
I got in a bit of a muddle with setting up the disk image in the first place, and by accident, didn't make it big enough for both libraries, so  I deleted it (I think) and set another one up.  I gave everyone read & write access via  "get info" in the finder.  Trouble is I didn't use very good names and now I'm not sure if a) I did actually delete the first one, and b) if I didn't actually delete it, I am using the correct disk image for the next steps.    Is there a way to verify which disk image is which, and delete the smaller one?
Regardless of this problem,  I ploughed ahead with steps 2, 3, 4, and 5.  I dragged my renamed library to the disk image icon I could see on the desktop.
I then used the option key to choose the W library on disk image when I opened iPhoto in the dock and all I get is this message:  Caution The iPhoto library is on a locked volume. Reopen iPhoto when you have read/write access, or reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library.
So, if you've managed to read this far,  please can anyone tell me where I've gone wrong, and how to sort this out?  Bear in mind I'm a new Mac user (although that's probably pretty obvious by now!)
Thanks in advance for any help

You don't need the Disk Image. Assuming you have copies of the Libraries you can delete them all.
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • How to manually sort albums in iPhoto 11

Dear list members, I always sorted my albums manually in iPhoto 11. However, since the last updates, I can't do that anymore. The only possibility when I drag an album is to nest it within another album, and not to place it between two other albums, for instance. Could you please help me?

it just takes a bit of finesse to get the album in the right postition before releasing. Are you able to get this line from the album that you're dragging?
When it shows up as you see and you release the album it will drop in between the two.  Of course I'm using a Magic Mouse on an iMac.  The track pad preferences may have to be tweaked so it's easier to find that spot and release.

  • Applescript for sorting faces in iphoto

    Hi,
I would really like for the Faces pane in iPhoto to sort the faces based on how many photos there are of that person, i.e., the person with the most photos would be first in the list, the person with the second most photos would be second, and so on. I feel sure that it is possible to write an applescript that would do this, but I have almost no experience with applescript. I have 688 faces, so sorting alphabetically mixes my loved ones in with people that have very few photos, while sorting manually is tedious and needs constant updating.
So my questions are: 1. Is it possible to do make iPhoto sort in the way I want, either with an applescript or by some other method? and 2. if it is possible, how do I find someone who can write the script for me?
    Thanks so much!
    Jennifer

A script won't help because you cannot arbitrarily set how the faces are displayed, you only get what the menus allow. You need to ask Apple to add this function:
