  • In OSX now won't boot back to OS9 Help!

Hi Folks! I've done this before but it's been a while and I've forgotten how to resolve the problem. I usually use OS9 on this computer but i booted into X and then used classic and now it won't boot back to OS9. You can select the OS9 drive in the startup panel but it just boots back to X. Using an option boot the OS9 drive doesn't show up. The only thing I did was startup classic using the system folder on that separate OS9 drive. Why would starting up classic render a perfectly good boot drive inoperable. I ran Diskwarrior on it to make sure the directory was in good shape. The OSX is one one drive and the OS9 is on another. Tom

    Hi Tom-
Do you need to rebless the system folder?

  • Can someone help me install Boot Camp drivers to Windows 8?

Hey guys, I just installed windows 8 32 bit developer preview on my mac via boot camp. im not very familiar with exactly how boot camp drivers work, so i need a little help. First i will tell you what i have done.
    1. installed win 8.
    2. tried to run the boot camp 3.3.exe in windows 8. I used the troubleshoot compatibility option but an error camp up saying boot camp was already installed.
    3. then i rebooted holding the option key so to boot up in osx. i then extracted the bootcamp 3.3 files to a flash drive.
    4. after booting back to windows, i tried doing the compatitbility settings again with each individual file within the bootcamp 3.3 files. an error popped up saying something like "check to see if your hardware needs 32 bit or 64 bit version of this software." (i dont remember the exact wording)
i did some googling but i figured that i could get professional help from you guys.
I am going to classes all day so please be patient, because i wont be able to check this until later this afternoon.
help is very much appreciated. thanks in advance.
    kpasa.

    you need boot camp 3.0.x first before later versions can be installed;
    Or,
I don't know what currently Boot Camp Assistant in 10.6.8 will also do a download of drivers.
But other than change Properites and try setting "use Windows 7 mode" and such, I think you are left high and dry with whatever is in 8.
And I use 8 on two of three systems. I left my Mac Pro @ Windows 7 for now but I much prefer Windows 8, yes.
I would not have chosen or gone with any 32-bit version. As long as you have 3GB RAM or more, forget it. Use 64-bit.
I have not seen or rather read any "success" stories with 8 and Apple drivers though.

  • I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview and after that I cannot run OS Lion. How can I recover options to boot back in OS Lion?

I tried to reboot from CD or USB and the Mac Mini simply bypasses it to Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
How can I avoid to Windows 8 boot and have the options to select OS Lion?
I used Boot Camp as shown in many videos. I did not select any additional OSX drivers for install.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to boot back to os x after installing windows7

I'm using iMAC with all the softwares updated.
As the title stated, I'm unable to boot back to my mac os x after i successfully installed windows 7.
I hold on to the Option key / Alt key but to no avail.
I'm able to see my Mac HD via My Computer from windows 7.
I even manage to install drivers from the os x cd itself to windows 7.
Just thinking is it something wrong with the MBR of mac os x or windows that caused this issue to arise.
Any help or guide will be helpful!
    Regards,
    xiang

X on startup should take you into OS X
For now, go to Windows control panels : Boot Camp and change the default OS there.
Whether it is keyboard, bluetooth, or karma, some people's systems do seem to have trouble on the timing or getting Option/Alt to bring up the EFI Boot menu/manager.

  • Booting back to OS X from 8.6

    Hi
One of my friend gave me a (B & W) PowerMac G3,350 Mhz. 512 MB RAM. 20GB HDD.
It was running OS X 10.3. Everything seemed to be working fine on it. But then I happen to go to Start-up Disk in System Preferences & found OS 8.6 along with 10.3. Out of Curiosity I selected it to start the G3 in 8.6. The system
rebooted & a flashing folder having "?" sign appeared. Tried rebooting multiple times but same problem. Looks like the system folder having the OS 8.6 is missing.
So. I tried booting back to OS X 8.3 by:
    1) Pressing option key at start up but nothing happened
2 pressed"Command +X" keys to boot directly in OSX. nothing happened
l was happy with the OS X & I want to boot back to it.
1)Any ideas how can do that?
    2) Can PRAM battery be the issue because every time I would boot, it would give a message to set the system clock- date & time. otherwise it would be like 1 Jan 2001.
    3) Say it doesn't boot back to X. can I still somehow take my data from the X by taking out the hard disk.
    4) I read that my system would support up to OS X10.4.11. Any comments on this? Also in the present situation how i am supposed to go about it.
5 What do you suggest- having 10.3.9 on it or 10.4.11?
    Thanks

I am having is because the system is trying to boot to OS 8.6, have its system folder missing or is it because the HDD has gone bad & its trying to boot to OS X 10.3. Can these icons tell which OS it is trying to boot in to?
If holding the Option/alt key down at bootup doesnt show the boot options you expect, then something is messed up, tough to tell what from here.
Some discussions tell to use Command + s to boot in to single user mode. Will that help me.
    Possibly...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Tough without the Tiger Disk problems, but try fsck...
To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
    1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
    2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
(SPACE between fsck AND -fy important)
    3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:

The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***

Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
    4. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.

Also if I am not able to find PRAM battery, can I connect some other 3.6 volt battery soldering it to the point on the Board.
    In theory it would.

  • Black Screen following install, can't boot back into Lion

    Hi all,
I just tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 via Bootcamp on my Late 2010 iMac (21").
Following installation (it completed installation fine) right before the part where the dialogue says 'Setting up your computer for the first time', the screen goes black and nothing appears to be happening.
I cannot boot back into Lion by holding Alt- it does nothing.
Holding C to boot from disk keeps brigning me to the same Windows Error Recovery screen where I am prompted to 'Start Windows Normally' or in the various Safe Modes.
Trying to start it normally results in this hanging black screen, trying to start it in safe mode results in a dialogue saying 'Setup cannot be completed in Safe Mode' and restarts the computer.
Obviously this is quite a tricky situation, I'd appreciate any help to make some part of my Mac usable again,
Thanks in advance for any input.
    tl;dr:
    Can't boot into Lion
Any action available to me in Windows results in the same loop of black screen hanging.
I'm not even sure where I can go to try and change any settings...

Reboot, hold the option key down when you hear the chime, release it when the boot manager appears. Select OSX as the startup. Once started go to Apple>System Preferences>Startup Disk and make OSX the permanent choice until you get the Winjunk running, even better, remove the Winjunk partition and stay in the light.

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Can't boot back into OSX after installing windows 8.1

I have a late 2013 MacBook pro 15 inch with retina display.
After I got windows 8.1 up and running  with a disk copy I tried to go back to the mac os side, but after I held down option/alt after restarting and clicked on the osx partition but all that happened was a white "no sign" showed on the screen and my computer began to boot back into windows.
I don't know if all my mac stuff is gone, so should I try and use osx recovery?

Try this first. Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then re-install the OS.

I have updated my ipad4 to ios7 and then I couldn't find my personal hotspot option.... Please please please help me to get back .... I really need help

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
Personal Hotspot should be at Settings > Cellular Data > Personal Hotspot

  • HT5538 i can't find the facetime on my iphone i was using it before 1 month after that it's just disappear i need your help to get it back . thank you

hello everyone i need your help please
i can't find the facetime on my iphone i was using it before 1 month after that it's just disappear i need your help to get it back .
    thank you

    FACETIME MISSING
The governments in some middle eastern countries have banned Facetime and it is disabled on iphones purchased in those countries.  The countries include KAS, UAE and others.  There is no way to get Facetime on such phones (for example it cannot be downloaded and installed) and taking the phone to another country does not cause Facetime to reappear on such phones. In  support.apple.com/kb/ts3367  it says “Note: FaceTime may not be available, or may become unavailable, on devices purchased or used in certain countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Check your device's region of purchase for more information.”

  • All my photos in the iphoto have disappeared, not sure if this related to any iphoto upgrade or other issue, tried to find the photos through the finder (JPG or photo) but failed, can you help me to get back my photos please?

All my photos in the iphoto have disappeared, not sure if this related to any iphoto upgrade or other issue, tried to find the photos through the finder (JPG or photo) but failed, can you help me to get back my photos please?

Help us to help you: There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance. (And no, more exclamation marks do not get help faster or make your issue seem urgent. They just make it seem like you have a stuck key )
