Help me transfer my mybook to my new imac

I just bought a new imac and I bought the mybook external hard drive. I do not know how to transfer my information the mybook to my mac. Pleases Help!

Your "My Book" external disk should appear as an icon on the iMac desktop, and you can drag your files from there to a folder or folders on the iMac.

I have had Aperture since version 1.0 and bought every upgrade.  Now I want to transfer the software to my new iMac but I have to enter the original Serial number that I cannot locate.  Any ideas what I can do, please?

The original serial number should be in the box with the installer disk.
If you cannot locate the serial number, contact Apple for a replacement serial number. You will need to provide a proof of purchase.

P.S. The menu command "Aperture > About Aperture" will show you your Aperture 3 serial number on your old mac, but not the previous serial numbers.

Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. It's a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC to help identify the more obvious culprits.

  • How to transfer my pictures to my new iMac (and keep edits)?...

I just got a new iMac, and want to transfer all the photos from my old iMac. (I do not want to use Migration Assistant).
I have Aperture 2 (not the most recent version). Of course, I could export all of my photos and copy them over like any other files. But that wouldn't keep all of the edits I've made to many of the photos in Aperture.
What is the proper way to transfer everything over so that I have all of it, along with the current edits I see when I look at the photos in Aperture on my old iMac? If you can help, please be very specific as I'm no expert when it comes to Aperture.
    Thanks!

If you have a Managed Library:
Copy the Aperture Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Mac to the same location on the New Mac. Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch Aperture. Select your Library as the one to open. Done.
Somewhat more complicated if you have a Referenced Library, do you?

  • How do I transfer my data to my new IMAC from my old mac's hard drive?

When switching to my new IMac, I transferred my data, but the data that it transfered from was my old Mac's original hard drive. How do I transfer the data from my 2nd hard drive which has all my up-to-date info?

I believe that you are running into the Master/Slave issue when there are two or more HDs on the same channel.
As per the Knowledge Base article on How to use FireWire target disk mode
Tip: FireWire Target Disk Mode works on internal ATA drives only. Target Disk Mode only connects to the master ATA drive on the Ultra ATA bus. It will not connect to Slave ATA, ATAPI or SCSI drives.
When you disconnected the original drive, which was the Master, and changed the new drive's position on the cable, which had been the Slave, you made it the Master, which then gave you access to it.
You may be more successful if you use Migration Assistant if you erase and reinstall OS X. It is located on your Intel in Apps/Utilities. Be sure to use Kappy's post linked above for an intelligent move of the things that are safe to move from PPC to Intel Macs.

  • Transfer from old eMac to new iMac

I just got a new iMac and want to transfer lots of stuff from my old eMac. I have a firewire but find that while it can be plugged into the eMac it is too large to plug into the iMac. Is there some kind of an adapter I can purchase to remedy this? Thanks.

To connect the eMac's FW 400 port to the Imac's FW 800 port, you will need a FW 6-pin to 9-pin cable.
Aside from that, you need to be very careful about transferring things from a PowerPC Mac to an Intel Mac. I suggest Kappy's Guide; A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs

  • Can I transfer my iWeb files to new iMac running Yosemite

I have recently purchased a new iMac running Yosemite 10.10.2. I have a set of iWeb files that I was working on but had not yet published as a website on my old iMac which is running OS X 10.5.8. Is it possible to transfer these files to the new mac? I can't find any iWork or iLife files in the Applications folder on my new mac.

Yes, you can transfer the files, but you will be unable to open them, because as you have found, new Macs have not shipped with iWeb installed on them for a long time now - iWeb as you may or may not know is very old software now that has not been sold or supported by Apple for at least 3 years.
The only other way that you will be able to get iWeb onto your new Mac is buy a copy of iLife 11 or iLife 09, both of which contained the final version of iWeb - which is iWeb 09.  You would need to purchase this from Amazon.  You could try an old installation CD that came with your other Mac if you still have it and you could try installing iWeb onto your new iMac from that, but if it does not work, then you'll have to buy a copy of iLife 11 or 09 from Amazon.
Your other alternatives of course are to find some new web creation software that is supported or you continue to use iWeb on your old Mac and just update and publish your sites from that machine.
In the end though, it might just be easier to bite the bullet and move onto some new software and re-build you site with that.
Software that is worth taking a look at is RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, WebAcappella 4, Flux V and EverWeb.  Then don't forget all the online website builders that you have, that are slightly different, such as WordPress.com, Wix.com and others.
Other alternatives are then the Content Management Systems such as Drupal, Joomla and WordPress.org.
I would suggest that you take a look at EverWeb first though - it is very much like the iWeb interface and can do a lot more than iWeb could out of the box, such as contact forms included, SEO included, drop down menus, master pages, support for PayPal with widgets and lots more.
Take and look and you can download a trial version before you buy.
There are lots of different options available to you, but ultimately, if you want to continue using iWeb on your new Mac, then you'll have to buy iLife form Amazon.  Time to move on perhaps?!!

  • Transfer purchased itunes items to new iMac without authorizing?

Hello. Hopefully this is in the right place to post this question.
I will hopefully be purchasing a new iMac in september to replace my macbook.
    My question is this:
I have purchased items from the iTunes store, but no longer have access to the account. Is there a way to transfer these files (or the entire library) to the new computer and still access them without having to authorize the new computer through iTunes? What I basically need is a way to be able to use the files on the new computer, and not use them on the old computer, without actually reauthorizing, since I no longer can get access to the account.
I'm not sure how migration assistant works, or if there is even a way I can do this, but I thought I'd ask.
My only other option, I suppose is to burn all 900 or so songs to CD, so that the protections don't transfer over. But thats an immense amount of time, money, and then more time renaming all the tracks (I'm a stickler for that).
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

We don't know the security questions my father put on, and can't access his email either.
I guess since you can de-authorize a computer, and then reauthorize a new one, I wasn't sure if it was possible to somehow transfer authorization, without needing the password, maybe using migration assistant. But, I assume thats just for the actual files.
Anyway, thanks for your prompt reply.

  • How to use Migration Assistant when trying to transfer from MacBook to a new iMac via Ethernet cable

I've been trying to transfer data from my MacBook to my new iMac via Ethernet cable and I get to the point of the transfer starting. Then on my iMac the Migration Assistant shuts down and takes me back to my desktop. Any ideas on why this keeps happening?

Start over, restoring the OS on the new machine, and follow the steps outlined in  Pondini's Setup New Mac guide using the Setup Assistant.

  • How to transfer music from iPhone to new iMac

My wife just got an iMac. She has had an iPhone for about a year or so. She wants to transfer the music from her iPhone to the iMac so she can then do new downloads on the iMac and keep it and the iPhone in sync. Photos transferred without problem. Apple says the music cannot be transferred. Any suggestions?

The iphone syncs one way for music, it is not a storage device.
The itunes purchased music can be transferred by File>Transfer purchases in itunes.
The iphone can sync with one itunes library at a time. You need to transfer you old itunes library - from the old computer, to the new imac, then sync.

  • Need help/advice before I power up my new iMac

Hi friends .... I'm sorry to bother here- but I just purchased a new 21.5" base iMac and need advice before my first start up ..... I'm currently using my 2006 iMac with 10.4.11 .... I'd love to be able to transfer some basic files, Safari bookmarks, etc .... I have most of my photos and important docs backed up on CDs (my external super drive for the new iMac won't arrive for another few days ...)I've read that Migration Assistant isn't supported or recommended from my old 10.4 to the new Mountain Lion on the new iMac .... I'm stressed about turning on my new iMac and confused about how to use the setup assistant in my situation .... Should I just rebuild my desktop and files manually later with my back-up cd's ... or is there a way to connect the two iMacs with an ethernet and just drag files from the old Mac to the new one .... I've only used Macs and I'm embarrassed I don't know these things ... please advise the best way for me to transition from my old Mac to the new one ... hoe should I use the onscreen assistant when I start up,...I certainly don't want to junk up my new iMac and transfer  all my old applications that won't work or be supported (Photoshop CS2, etc) , but I would also love to have my desktop and other stuff I use  there right away to make my new machine familiar from the start .... (please answer as simply as possible ... ) ...thanks so much in advance ....

I just looked at that solution and see that the Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter requires OS X v10.7.4 ... so that lets me out again- I'm using 10.4.11 ...
That will not limit its use with your new iMac.
You will need to boot your Tiger iMac in FireWire Target Disk Mode - hold the T key while starting your older Mac. You can use Setup Assistant (or Migration Assistant). From the new iMac's perspective the old Mac will appear to be an external disk.
When asked "How do you want to transfer your information" select "From a Mac, PC, Time Machine backup or other disk" then click Continue. On the next screen be sure to select "From a Time Machine backup or other disk" and not "From a Mac or PC".
Otherwise, Migration Assistant will look forever for your other Mac.

  • Transfer G4 Address Book to new Imac

Hi! Please tell me where my address book is located on my G4. I will transfer it using firewire to my Imac but not sure where it is. Once found do I just copy it to the new Imac location? Thanks, Mike

If you are seriously on 10.2 on the old machine and 10.4 on the new, I don't think you can do it directly . If you are on 10.4.x, you need to copy ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook from the old to the new Mac. If the old machine is 10.2 open Address Book, select all the contacts and File/Export as a vCard. The exported file can becopied to and imported on the new machine.

  • Transfer music from iPad to new iMac much too slow

I want to transfer my music and videos, but not my apps, from my 128 GB iPad Air to my new iMac/Mavericks.
I tried to do this by
Connecting the iPad to a USB port on the iMac
    Initiating "Transfer Purchases" from iTunes
Unfortunately, this is ridiculously slow, it would take hours I estimate. For one think I have about 40 gig of apps and that takes forever to transfer. I thought that iMac supported USB 3?
Is there some reasonably quick way to do this? I can't sit around for 8 hours with my iPad hooked up to my Mac, I need it.

There are a lot of complaints about this. The bottleneck seems to be the iPad Air.
Syncing is slower on iPad Air
