Help me with MXF files in FCP (using Calibrated MXF import app)

I have 10 cards of footage full of .MXF files that need to be imported into FCP. I downloaded Calibrated MXF import (http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/MXFImport_Mac.asp) but not quite sure how to use it.
After I installed it, I'm able to import the .mxf files into my bin but there is no audio connected to the video files and vice versa. I have no idea what kind of camera the footage was shot on, but everything was imported through Avid and then given to me on a hard drive.
Here is what the file structure looks like in my finder:

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

When the Calibrated plugin is installed, you should be able to treat those MXF files as if they were native quicktimes. Not knowing where these files originated is definitely a problem, and something that you will need to research.
Try opening a clip in Quicktime Player and use the Get Info window to get some details about these files. It should list there if there is audio, and what format it is.

  • Help: Working with .MOV files in FCP and forced to RENDER FOR EVERY EDIT

I'm working with .MOV files from my digital camera in Final Cut Pro and every time I make a new edit, I have to render it in order to see it in the canvas.
How do I make it so that I don't have to render every edit in order to see it?
(I've worked with files straight from a DV camera, and editing went fine. I'm assuming it has to do with the .MOV files)

DV Cameras are not the same thing as a Digital camera. Digital cameras offer video on a limited basis and it's usually highly compressed in a non-editing format such as MPEG-2 or similar. NLEs are made to work with video cameras, not still cameras which is why you're having trouble.
That's not to say you can't edit video captured with a digital camera, but you need to know how to prep it for editing. Some digital cameras shoot at odd frame rates and they all use some form of compression that is not typically used in editing. This means that you'll likely need to convert your clips to an editable format first using Compressor.

    Russ and Luis,
I did uninstall and re-install Canon XF Utility and the Canon FCPX plug in.   Still no luck.  I checked the CanonXF64.RADPlug folder is on my computer in the Rad Plugins folder in application support  This is where it is supposed to be as far as I can figure out.
Another piece of the puzzle is that  footage shot on a Canon C300 in 2013 and  I reimported today and it DOES import into FCP10.1.3.   Footage shot on a different Canon C300 filmed this summer will NOT import into FCPX.  The latter will import into Premiere. But I am trying to work in FCPX, but maybe I shouldn’t be??
    Any ideas?  (screen shots below)
    Thanks.
    Peace, Huey
FYI Here is what Canon says
"There is another trick that works sometimes though.  Try uninstalling the plugin and XF Utility.  Then, install the latest XF Utility, followed by the plugin, in that order."
I did do this but no results.  Otherwise they say I need to wait for a new plugin.
Here's 2014 Canon C300 files does NOT import to FCPX
Here's 2013 Canon C300 files does import into FCPX.  I thought it was Contents folder but another set of footage shot on C300 does import and there is no contents folder for that.

  • P2/MXF files in FCP

    Hi, fellow FCP freaks...
Anyone in here who know when it will be possible to edit directly from P2/MXF files in FCP? I have Raylight, but it is not perfect, it´s okay but not perfect.
I´m getting tired of converting 1440x1080 into Quicktime - complete waste of time

    +You're not wrong David,+
+but i'm in PAL land and was looking to buy in pounds sterling,+
    +i realised this http://www.raylight.co.uk/+
    +was not right+
We sell throughout the world and many customers in the UK so I don't think that's a problem, use your credit card or paypal and the dollars are converted from pounds. The link is http://dvfilm.com/raylight/mac
Also here is something new http://dvfilm.com/MXFX
This was mainly driven by needs from Avid users, who need the moral equivalent of the Panasonic frame rate converter for MXF files. But it may have some applicability to FCP as well, for image rotation of 35mm lens adapters
(so you can see your clips right side up, but without recompression), and
    noise reduction.

  • How to transfer pc file to Samsung using the adobe reader app?

how to transfer pc file to Samsung using the adobe reader app?

I solved the problem.  I manually created my own Adobe PDF folder by connecting the phone via usb to my PC, Windows Autoplay gave me the option to 'Open device to view files'. Explorer then displayed all the folders on the phone.  I created an Adobe PDF folder manually and copied the PDFs I wanted to view into that folder.  Adobe Reader then found the files without a problem.  I clearly was missing something quite simple but something I'm sure a lot of people would miss.  Perhaps if the next version of Adobe Reader for Android created this folder automatically, like Kindle and Kobo and other readers do, it might save a lot of people a bit of a headache.

  • How to ingest Canon MXF files into FCP 7

All afternoon I've been trying to figure out how to get Final Cut Pro 7 to recognize .mxf files generated by a Canon FS-CV hard drive, without much luck. This device has 3 options of format: .m2t, .mxf and Quicktime. I've found that the Quicktime files are not openable by Quicktime Pro 7.7 and gives me the bewildering error
"An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie."
Okay, so that's not working, let's try Plan B. Since I have a P2 camera, .mxf is a familiar sight so I tried that one. L&T doesn't recognize anything about it, so that's a no-go. The only reliable workflow I've found so far is to transcode the .m2t files to ProRes using Mpeg Streamclip. Okay, that works, but is that the only one of these that'll work with FCP? Quicktime format seemed like a no-brainer. Why won't it open and/or play? I've Googled and Googled and have found plenty of people asking this question but no useful answers so far. And why doesn't FCP Log & Transfer recognize these .mxf files? If Canon has a special plugin for this, I haven't been able to find it through the byzantine maze they call a web site.
    Any suggestions are welcomed.

  • Help needed with .asp files

I am not sure what I am asking or what I need to do, so please bear with me, thanks.
I am helping out with a site that has one dynamic page utilizing a database with an .mdb extension.
Previously hosted on a site with ASP (not sure which version).
New host has MySQL with PHP (?)
I would like to be able to rework the one dynamic page in DW, using .php. I am not able to upload the .mdb file to my localhost MySql area.
It all comes down to the database.....
Is there a way to convert the .mdb file to one with an .sql extension?
Or am I taking the wrong approach?
    Thanks,

An mdb file is MS Access. There are conversion utilities that will convert between the two dbms's, but if the schema is not complex you can simply build the new database in MySQL, export the data from access and then import it.

  • Help please with P2 files importation

    Hi -
For the first time ever I am going to be working with P2 files from and Panasonic 200 camera. I have done Google searching but much of the info seems dated - can you please direct me to what I need to what is the most current download to make the importation into FCP 7 possible?
If you can guide me to a current tutorial, that would be much appreciated also.
    Thanks you very much,
    MtD

Shane wrote one for FCP 6:

It shouldn't make a difference with FCP 7.
    Remember:
    1. Don't need a driver for mounting the cam in SL;
    2. Always write protect the p2 cards before mounting if you are using the camera.
    3. If you shot pN format (ask), look at the preferences in the L/T window on removing pulldown upon import.

  • Help Please with moving files from an External HD to a New Hard Drive

OK My Powermac MDD's Hard Drive Needs Replacing, but before I replace it I was told to buy Super Duper software and backup my hard drive and the applications onto an external Hard Drive. I am going to go and buy another external Hard Drive tomorrow and do this, but I have a few questions...
What do I need to do to do this successfully? Please explain in the simplest of terms.
Here's the steps as far as I understand. Please correct where necessary.
    1. Buy an external HD like an LaCie for example.
    2. Attach the LaCie external Hard Drive to my mac. *What Do I need to do to set it up to use with Super Duper? Please explain this in detail if possible as it is really confusing me how to set up my external LaCie Hard Drive so I can move my Files to it using Super Duper and then put the files back onto a new Hard Drive!*
I've read I need to be able to "boot from the External Hard Drive" after I copy my files there using Super Duper. What do they mean by booting from the hard drive?
Do I need to "format" my new LaCie Hard Drive?
What do I use to format the LaCie Hard Drive? I think the last time I didn't have to do anything, when I used my external Hard Drive for storage only, but do I have to do something special now that I want to copy my whole hard Drive from the LaCe external back ont a "New" G4 Hard Drive?
    3. Buy or Download "Super Duper" software to copy all of the contents of my Hard Drive to the LaCie external Hard Drive. Does anyone know if the demo will do this or do I need the advanced features?

Thanks Japamac, Wel this is a very lengthy reply so forgive me but I feel like I am getting close to understanding this so please bear with me. Thanks! Well I see I have 2 options that both sound viable. I ran disc utility and under S.M.A.R.T. it said: Failure. The only application I can't open is Safari and the drive is still turning properly and semi-reliable though, so I may be alright to clone still. There is stil the issue of errors though. If there are errors I agree with you I don't want to copy themm over to a new drive but can I not run disc utility after I copy verything over to the new drive?
My reason for wanting to use Super Duper is that I have about 23 applications that all have different serial no's etc. and to reinstall all of these would take a considerable amount of time, so that's why I was wanting to use SD, but if "Migrate Assistant" will copy over applications like Photoshop, Mail and other applications then I think that might be a lot better because my install would be a lot cleaner and I could only install what I needed. What do you think?
It looks like "Migration Assistant" only comes with Tiger. This throws a wrench into things. What would you do? Would you buy Tiger or just use Super Duper etc. Can I install Tiger onto my external Hard Drive only and then use "Migration Assistant" to transfer files over even if my Hard Drive only uses Panther? Sorry for all the questions but I see there are a few ways to do this and I want to use the method that will work best. : )
So if i use Migrate Assistant do I need to copy over my system preferences too? I think if I copy my applications they will create new preferences when launched won't they. Also would all of my "Mail" information be copied over using "Migrate Assistant"
    Method #1 (Using Super Duper)
    1) Install the external HD and format it using "Disc Utility"
    2) Run "Super Duper" and clone my hard Drive to the external Drive.
    3) Disconnect the external Hard Drive
    4) Disconnect the computer and install the new hard drive
    5) Reconnect the external Hard Drive and Run "Super Duper" and transfer the information back to the new hard drive.
    6) Run Disc Utility and fix any errors.
    7) "Erase" the contents from the external Hard Drive
    8) Done!
    Method #2 (Using Migrate Assistant)
    1) Use the mac G4 discs and select the "External Hard Drive" and Install the OS from the install disc directly to the "External Hard Drive".
    2) Then use my Panther discs and select the "External Hard Drive" and install Panther to the "External Hard Drive".
    3) Go into "Preferences" and select "External Hard Drive" as my "Startup Disc" so it will "boot" to the "External Hard Drive".
    4) Use "Migrate Assistant" to migrate or transfer only software applications (Photoshop. Mail, Address Book etc.) from the "old" hard drive to the "External Hard Drive".
    5) Disconnect the external Hard Drive
    6) Disconnect the computer and install the new hard drive
    7) Reconnect the external Hard Drive and Run "Super Duper" and transfer the information back to the new hard drive.
    8) no need to run Disc utility as it's like a clean install.
    9) "Erase" the contents from the external Hard Drive
    10) Done!
Please tell me if I have missed a step or if a step is incorrect in the above 2 methods.
    Q) I can't find my G4 install discs, can I use my Panther install discs instead?
    Q) Does "Migrate Assistant" come with Panther or does it only come with the mac install discs?
    Q) Will "Migrate Assistant" copy over my "Mail" application and it's setting or do I need to totally reinstall that?
    Q) How long does "Migrate Assistant" take to transfer vs.. Super Duper?

  • Working with WMV files in FCP 5 Timeline

I know Flip4Mac Studio Edition allows for importing and exporting into and out of FCP 5 in WMV format. What I'm not sure of, is can you do intensive editing on the WMV files in FCP 5 without any glitches. Will FCP run smoothly?
I am asking because I work at online company that will be receiving wmv files on its servers. This is a high volume workflow with an intense turnover rate. We are receiving hour long clips and re-editing them down to 2 minutes. There is no time to go through lengthy WMV to MOV conversions. We need to receive, edit, and output all in WMV.
Can FLip4Mac with FCP 5 edit an intense environment like this? Where everything is done in WMV? Or Is Flip4Mac primarily for converting WMV into MOV so that editing in FCP is done with MOV files, and then at the end exporting as WMV again.
Is FLip4Mac the only solution. Are there others? After recommending and praising Macs, I may be on thin ice if FLip4Mac isn't a sufficient workaround!!
    Thanks Curtis

Saving a WMV as MOV in QuicktimePro is simply putting a MOV wrapper on the WMV so FCP will better handle it. It's a Save As not an export so there's no additional compression.
Ultimately you will have to render though, most likely because it's not one of the video formats natively handled by FCP (DV, DVCPro50, etc). It's not just the physical settings, the "video" codec itself must be supported. BTW if you were to edit in HDV you'd have to render too for output (to create new GOP structure in that case though).
    Hi Craig,
Thanks for the advice, a few things though....
"Flip4Mac Player Pro allows you to edit WMV in FCP."
The problem is that I need to render when I import
WMV files into FCP, even though I have matched all of
the parameters in the sequence settings (ie. pixel
aspect ratio, frame rate, frame size, etc.)
I don't know for sure, but my understanding is I have
to render because there is no WM9 option under the
"compressor" parameter in the Sequence Settings.
Because of this it is impossible to import WMV files
without rendering even with FLip4Mac, because I have
it installed and can still export as a WMV file.
Have you discovered a way to import WMV files into
FCP without needing rendering? This is critical for
me because the environment I'm in doesn't allow for
long render times, as it will slow down the workflow
    of the whole newsroom.
"I can also open WMV in QuicktimePro (with Flip4Mac)
and save the file as MOV. I find it works smoother
    that way."
But doesn't it degrade the quality when you convert
to .MOV? And for me, going from WMV to MOV back to
WMV will result in degradations at each step won't
    it?

I need to know how i can write files with an applet to a directory so that i can retrieve the files for later use. I need to know how to do this step by step as i am a beginner. i've tried looking for tutorials and i just can't seem to get it working.
can somebody PLEASE provide me with some valid info here as i'm sure that many others have exactly the same problem and can refer to this topic.
    much appreciated.
    thnx

You will need a certificate to sign the Applet with.
here is a rehash of the script I use to to this...
CERTIFICATE_FILE_NAME is the name of your certificate file.
c:\windows\.keystorefile is the path & name of your keystore
jar cf  tmp.jar *.class *.gif *.jpg *.au
    jarsigner -keystore c:\windows\.keystorefile -signedjar YOUR_DESTJARNAME.jar tmp.jar  CERTIFICATE_FILE_NAME
    del tmp.jar
del *.classThis is excatly what you need to do and your file writes will work.
Now you may need to tweak your getImage to find the files within the
    jar but thats another story.

  • Help with iShowU files in FCP

I'm getting a problem when I try to crop the movie file from iShowU. It won't render. It just says codec error when I try to render the imported file from iShowU. Why is this happening and is there a way around it? I set the recorded file from iShowU to the same settings as the sequence and the settings are:
    H.264
    720x480
    29.97 fps
    NTSC Pixel Aspect
    Lower (Even) Field Dominance
Please, let me know if you need any more info.

Is the version of iShowU you own capable of capturing in either Apple Intermediate Codec or ProRes? I know in my experience I've had much better luck capturing into a intermeidate codec like one of these than trying to use something like h.264. Plus, Final Cut will be much happier editing one of these two codecs than it is h.264.

  • Help with image file names when using Import Word document feature

    Hello,
I am using File >> Import >> Word document into an HTML template.  If the Word document contains images, the images are written to the directory specified in my Site Default Image Folder.  Here is my question: As I was teaching myself the Import function, one time the images were automatically named to match the page name.  So for example, if my page is named Create.html, the images would be named Create_image001.jpg, Create_image002.jpg, etc.  I can't remember how I enabled this feature (or maybe I was dreaming) but if anyone knows how to control the name of the images imported from MS Word, please let me know.  I've searched and Googled for hours and can't find a way to control the image file names.
    Thanks in advance,
    Shellie

I was hoping that this would be fixed in the 10.8.2 upgrade but it has not.  Anyone have any luck?  Earlier today I was trying to write a paper and navigating between 10 pdfs was a nightmare without being able to hover my mouse for the titles like I used to.

  • Transparency Issues with PSD files in FCP 7

I'm having some weird file layer transparency issues with FCP 7. I'm working on a project that's made up entirely of graphics drawn in Photoshop CS5. They Photoshop settings were done to match an HDTV 1080i (16:9) sequence in FCP. In FCP, the pixels were set to square, field dominance to none, frame rate to 29.97 and compressor is Apple ProRes 422.
I exported my PSD files out of Photoshop, with each layer being exported to its own file. In general, things were fine, but there were a few files where you could see the outline of the character against the background, but mind you that this is only visible once the video is rendered out in the FCP timeline. Nothing is visible in Photoshop, nor is it visible while viewing from the Browser in FCP. I told this to the artist and he went back and made corrections, making sure everything was on a transparent background, but the result was still the same - once I rendered the graphics out in FCP, these edge lines were visible.
I then went back into Photoshop, opened all the files that were giving me trouble, clicked on the "foreground color" and changed it to a color other than white, then back to white and hit ok. That seemed to work - even when rendered out, I was getting no artifacts, until I tried enlarging the graphics over 100%.
Also, with some of the same graphics, I was trying to layer them so that a guy was in the foreground with other people and a van behind him in the background. Once again, no problem in Photoshop, but once brought into FCP, the background people were actually being displayed over the main foreground character.
I'm pretty baffled - what to do? I'll attach a photo of the weird lines around the characters. It might be hard to see at this size, but if you download and enlarge it to 300% or so, you'll see what I mean.

Just saw that Adam's original post was an older one.  Will keep this here anyway to maybe help the most recent poster.

Adam, did you try what David said about pointing to the root folder?  Did that work?
When I copy the SD card, I name a new folder on my hard drive something specific, like Smith Wedding.  Then I copy everything inside the SD card to that new folder.  The first level inside my new folder now has folders for
    AVF_INFO
    PRIVATE
and on down from there.  When you open Log and Transfer, point it to the Smith Wedding folder (of course whatever you have named yours).
ClipWrap2 also works great to convert the files beforehand if you want.
What camera are you using?  I have the Sony NX30 and it was giving me fits because the .mts files don't ingest if the clips are longer than 11 min. My problem is that I'm still on FCP 6.0.6.  I think 7.0.3 fixed that.  But I did find enough work-arounds to keep the camera.
