Help me with picture quality for slideshow.

Hi I'm David and I'm new to adobe elements and video editing and am trying the elements 9 trial.
I'm trying to learn the software and thought i'd start witha a slideshow vid with some holiday pics.
My first and biggest issue i've come across is the pictures quality is really lousy when i have added them to the video. even thought they are fairly fine 8 mp jpg pictures from my digital camera and looks nice when wieving them outside of elements. Why and how do i solve this?
Also i wonder if there is a way to preview the pictures in big size before ading them to the timeline?
Can i change the time lenght shown for many pictures at the same time instead of changing them one at a time?
Will really apreciate help on this matter.
Thx!

Okey I thought that cs5 was the big really proffesional program.
I want to do much more than just slideshow but thought that would be an easy start and i had the fotage already.
I want with more features than moviemaker or similar but having to use another program to not get bad quality pics is not what i expected.
I'll check your tutorials out.
Thx

Did you download and install the Windows Support software? If you did, did you use the Boot Camp Control icon to set up the trackpad how you want it?

Compare with on-line stores. The full version is often cheaper than Adobe's upgrade price.

  • Display Quality for slideshows

How do I improve slideshow quality. I am using professional quality settings. I have tried different resolution camera output but it doesn't make any difference. Images are very soft and small. When I create an Iphoto slideshow with the same pics I get a full screen and better resolution. Any ideas?

Yes, large display - I'm outputting to a Panasonic
AE900 projector and putting up a 90 inches diagonal
    picture.
nice setup.. OSX with Front Row is a good platform for HTPC. Unfortunately the picture quality is not as good as what you can obtain with PC's. but it is still plenty good. Then again, if you will watch DVD's only, I would recommend getting an upconverting DVD player (Oppo is a good brand for 200 bucks aprox). Again, check out the avsforums, you'll find plenty of useful info and very helpful people.

  • Pictures quality of slideshow

    Hi all
I have been trying to create a slideshow from my recent shooting using aperture 3, no matter what export format I chose, the quality of all the pictures in the slideshow dramatically decreases when playback from my iMac, even I chose the HD 1080p, the pictures turn out very blur.
I thought this maybe because I used raw format, then I exported the raw to jpg and created a separate project to hold all the jpg, and repeated the whole slideshow thing, I still got the same results. Does anyone have the same problem and know how to solve this?
One more question, I usually put raw and jpg into the same folder and then import into aperture 3, and I set raw as master. So, if i want to create slideshow out of these, which format is aperture gonna use for the slideshow, raw or jpg?
    Thanks
    Tony

    Hi Tony,
Welcome to the user-supported Aperture discussion forum. Have you read Apple's terms for using this handy website? http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa
I have been trying to create a slideshow from my recent shooting using aperture 3, no matter what export format I chose, the quality of all the pictures in the slideshow dramatically decreases when playback from my iMac, even I chose the HD 1080p, the pictures turn out very blur.
How are you exporting your slideshow? I'm not familiar with the functions to export a slideshow.
I thought this maybe because I used raw format, then I exported the raw to jpg and created a separate project to hold all the jpg, and repeated the whole slideshow thing, I still got the same results. Does anyone have the same problem and know how to solve this?
Are you indicating that you have RAW files in your Aperture library, and then you exported them to a temporary place as JPG, and then re-imported them as JPG into Aperture, and then recreated your slideshow using the "new" photos in your Aperture library? Your photos won't be blocky because they were generated from RAW in general. I'm not sure of your workflow here, though.
One more question, I usually put raw and jpg into the same folder and then import into aperture 3, and I set raw as master. So, if i want to create slideshow out of these, which format is aperture gonna use for the slideshow, raw or jpg?
It will use whatever photo you have chosen to be the master. If you are importing RAW and JPG together and they are stored together (based on your import options), you will see a little badge with an "R" or a "J" in the lower right corner of the picture. These badges mean that the RAW or JPG, respectively, of a RAW/JPG pair is being used as the master, and Aperture is storing and ignoring the other one, depending on your specific import option.

  • Amount of pictures allowed for slideshows?

Hello everyone. I was wondering if someone might be able to help me with my question. I'm thinking about buying photoshop elements 8. One of the main reasons is for slide show making. Does anyone know how many pictures can be downloaded per slideshow? Also, how many songs can be downloaded per slideshow. I've been using Photostory, and they only allow 300 pics max. I was just wondering if photoshop elements 8 allowed more?
Also, while I have you here, is this program good for slideshows, or would you reccomend a different program?
Thanks so much in advance for all of your help!
    Rich

I have used Photoshop Elements to make slideshows - but I would not say that it is good for making slide shows and I would not recommend purchasing it specifically for making slide shows.
-- I don't think there is a specific limit on the photos in a PSE slide show : however, many people do encounter effective limits based on the hardware and software configuration of their PC/laptop. There have many posts on these forums where people failed at 200 - 300 photos.
-- You did not say how you will use this slide show. You should be aware that if you wish to create a TV playable video DVD (MPEG2) you most probably will need to also purchase Adobe Premiere Elements.
I suggest that you also post your question on another forum like elementsvillage.com which has photo and slideshow discussions about software other than the Adobe products.  ProShow Gold is a product I have seen recommended and hopefully someone at elementsvillage forums can give you guidance . I suggest that you post in their General Elements Discussion subforum.

  • Image Quality for Slideshows

Hello Everyone. I just purchased Photoshop Elements 9 and I have just joined the Adobe Forum. I am an amateur photographer with a challenge. I am creating slideshows for family, and before I go any further, I need to get some questions answered about quality. I have scanned old photos to my computer. I have scanned old negatives to my computer. I have digital pictures on the computer with varying ranges of size and quality. When these are imported into a slideshow program to be put on DVD, what kind of sizing and pixels per inch do I need to use so that when the DVD is played on a TV, (for instance, my brother has a HDTV that is 46"), the quality of the photos remain good for that size of a screen?  Another example would be a slideshow of my trip to the desert where I shot a couple hundred photos, and when I made the DVD, some of the images appeared pixelated, and/or noisy. The pictures were shot with a Nikon D50 3008x2000 pixels, 300dpi 24 bit depth jpegsRGB. The size of the original file is 2.78MB. I would appreciate any input on this. Thanks so much. Arthur

Is the image quality improved for slideshows using the new Pro Encoding option in iDVD08? For me, the quality was unacceptable in previous versions
iDVD '08s Pro Encoding mode won't improve things if your total DVD size is under 60 minutes (for a single layer disc) and can use Best Performance mode encoding.
Best Performance uses a encoding bit-rate about as high as a DVD player can handle on playback. The Pro mode advantage will 'kick in' when you have content over 60 minutes. Best Quality simply picks a fixed encoding rate necessary to fit 'standard' content into the space available. The Pro mode will look at your content first and can assign a high encoding bit-rates for content with lots of detail or movement and a lower encoding bit-rate for content with less detail or movement. Pro modes highest encoding bit-rate shouldn't exceed the fxed encoding bit-rate used by Best Peformance.
For slideshows, you must keep in mind that the DVDs we can make today are low resolution devices - NTSC discs are less than 640x480 pixels at best (that's less than 0.3 megapixels) - so your great 10 megapixel digital images MUST loose a lot of detail in the encoding process.
FWIW - I recently made several large slideshows using FotoMagico that I felt gave me better quality than iMovie or iDVD directly. Others like Photo to Movie. Both offer free trial versions.

  • Help needed with printer settings for wired ethernet connection

I'm hoping someone can help me with a network printing issue. I have a large format color laser printer (Tektronix Phaser) and since moving to OS 10.6 I can't figure out how to configure the printer so that the system sees it. I have a simple wired ethernet network with a couple of Macs and a couple of printers. All devices are connected via a switch. When using earlier OSs I was able to connect to the Phaser using Ethertalk. Obviously this is no longer supported and I can't figure out how to set the printer so the OS can see it. I have lots of options which can be turned on or off and in some cases set up in other ways: Ethertalk, IPX, Netware, TCP/IP, DNS, LPR, HTTP and remote internet printing, I've tried messing with these but the result is always the same--system doesn't see the printer. Currently Ethertalk is on, IPX and Netware are off, TCP/IP is on, DNS and LPR are on, as are AppSocket, HTTP, FTP and remote internet printing. I can change the IP address but no matter what address I've tried I cannot ping the printer. (I'm using a Gutenprint driver for this printer.)
I don't really know enough about all this to get anywhere and I haven't been able to find help anywhere even from tech friends. Xerox won't help me and neither will Apple. Any help would be appreciated. I can supply more detail on specifics where necessary. Thanks, Bob

Old Phaser models may becoming more and more difficult to use, but you can give this a try.
    1. Configure the printer via front panel to use TCP/IP and enable DHCP if it's supported. If not then you will need to configure an IP address for the printer together with your local network's mask, and gateway IP address. Except for the first the others will be provided by opening Network preferences to see what those settings are. The printer's IP address needs to be set somewhere within the range of IP addresses your router provides locally.
    2. You need the PPD file required for your printer. If you have the Phaser driver installer you can use it to install the PPD or you can extract the specific PPD from the installer package. This part is tricky because I don't know where you may find the driver now if you don't have the installer. The older installers can be accessed through the Finder by selecting the package then CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. You can then rummage through the package to search for the PPD for your printer. Then navigate to the /Library/Printers/PPD/Contents/Resources/ folder and drop the PPD file inside.
    3. Open Print & Fax preferences and click on Add [+] to add a new printer. Click on the IP icon in the toolbar. Select Line Printer Daemon - LPD from the Protocol drop down menu. Input the IP address you assigned the printer in the Address field. You can file in the optional fields that follow. Then from the Print Using drop down menu locate the listing for your printer and select it.

  • Computer vs. TV picture quality for iDVD

I'm making about a 10 min sequence using nothing but still images (jpegs mostly) and edited text using FCX to make a slideshow displaying my artwork. My question(s) are when I burn the dvd how does a computer display the movie? when I display my movie while working on my tv the images are cropped about 10% all the way around while on the computer its being displayed the way I want it to be. Also on the tv the images are good quality but on the computer they are not. When all the data from the movie goes on the dvd will it look good as far as picture quality AND NOT be cropped? the cropping on the tv pretty much ruins most of the images since they are perfect on my computer. Thanks

"I suppose I'm slightly screwed if anyone wants to view it on a tv... "
    More or less.
"If I want people to view it on a computer since thats whats typically going to happen (color is better, etc) is it going to be cut off or will it look like it does in the canvas? and it will be good quality right?... like looking at the photos through photoshop or something but simply fitting the screen at max. ?"
FCE is a video editor designed to output to interlaced TV/Monitors as opposed to non-interlaced computer displays.
There are big differences in how they work and display images.
In short, if a computer has a decent DVD player (hardware and software) you should pretty much see what you had in the Canvas.

  • Help Needed with HTML code for Image Positioning

    Hi All,
Need a little help with some code for positioning images.
    I initially used the following:
This is fine, but the border automatically puts a black border around the photo - how do I change it to white? Is there a way to set margins too, to prevent the text butting up against the photo?
I also used the following code with success:
    <style type="text/css"
    img
    float:right;
    border:2px solid white;
    margin: 0px 0px 15px 20px
    </style>
This code works, however the problem with it is it is not individual to just one photo - it moved all my photos and on that page, I wanted one photo floated to left and another to the right.
If I use this code, how can I make it photo specific, so that it only affects the placement, margins and borders of one photo?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

CSS question, not iWeb question. Regardless, use inline CSS styling for the image. You can also wrap the image in its own tag and declare an id or simply declare an id for the img tag, then set the style for the id_name:
    <style type="text/css"
    img#id_name
    float:right;
    border:2px solid white;
    margin: 0px 0px 15px 20px
    </style>
If you want to control the style of more than one image on a page but not all then use a class instead of an id.
the border automatically puts a black border around the photo - how do I change it to white? Is there a way to set margins too, to prevent the text butting up against the photo?
I believe you have discovered a solution for this according to your CSS code. You have set the border to white by looking at the code and adjusting it appropriately. Your margin is declared in the CSS also, adjust the pixels appropriately.
Read up some more on CSS to educate yourself further. I suggest w3schools.com or a CSS forum instead of the iWeb forum if you have CSS questions. It's kind of like if you drive your auto to the supermarket so you decide to go to the supermarket and ask everyone in the produce section to help when you have car problems. All the supermarket does is provide a place to park your auto. If you have car problems then ask a mechanic. iWeb (and most of its users) doesn't specialize in code, it simply provides an area for you to place it. Granted you might get lucky and find a mechanic in the produce section of the supermarket, but you're more likely to find a specialist at an auto swap meet (or CSS coding forum)!

  • Help required with Access Sequence for output of Delivery

    Hi
I have created new conditon table for shipping point and storage location
Created new access sequence , with this new condition table as the 1st sequence - the others being Sales org/ Customer and then Shipping point.
Applied this Access sequence to Output type
I created condition record against 1st access sequence, Shipping point and storage location
Yet when I created Stock Transport Order and subsequent delivery for this STO.
The first access sequence against Shipping point and Storage location was not found
The fields used against shipping point and storage location in my access sequence are as follows:-
    VSTEL     KOMKBV2    VSTEL
    LGORT    KOMPBV2    LGORT
I also tried with a condition for shipping point and material , but this was not found either
    Any ideas ?
    Please advise
    Many thanks
    Tony

    HI
checked the config and the delivery type is assigned to output determination procedure for shipping output.
we have two outputs for deliveries, one for delivery schedule note and the other for despatch note, once PGI has been done.
Delivery schedule note is first in the determination procedure so delivery type NL replenishment delivery is assigned to the first output in this procedure
    is something amiss here ??
    Thanks

  • DVD Quality for Slideshow presentation

    Morning.
I have created a slideshow in iMovie 09 and followed the standard route to getting this in to iDVD. Once burnt to a DVD the quality is very very poor and unwatchable. The images are high end SLR quality and there is slight quality regression when imported into iMovie 09 which is a shame but manageable. The degregation is when it gets burnt as the slideshow in iDVD09, when viewed pre burn in iDVD its OK. A number of people i have met including a photography is having the same problem. Any help would be appreciated as i am tearing my hair out with this mac when i should get decent results with the out of the box software.
    Thanks all Matt.

The difference being that that would have been a data DVD and not a video DVD.
There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico: http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie 6 as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 8 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1089

  • Please please help trouble with exported quality

please please help me> i have been searching the net for over 3 hrs for a solution and whatever I have found has been a little too technical for me . I am uploading video to i movie from a disk. the file types on the disk are mp4. I am then editing the clips on iMovie '09 when I go to export the movie I am chosing to export movie as a "large" 960x540
.mov file. The quality ***...it is blurry and grainy and unusable. Someone in another forum told me to run the mp4 movie in quicktime and tell them what movie inspector says about the clip. Movie inspector says:
    Formatt: Apple MPEG4 Decompressor, 640 × 480, Millions
    FPS: 29.97
    Playing FPS: 30
    Data size 129 MB
    Data Rate: 1504.39 kbits/s
    Size 640 x 480
I am dying over here any help please? and thank you all so much

once I share to the media browser where does it go? cant find it.
It's "hidden" in your user folder Movies>iMovie Projects. Right-click (Control-click) on the name of your Project and select "Show Package Contents". In the folder named Movies you will see your exported file. It could be either a .m4v or .mov file, or possibly another type, depending on whether standard definition or high definition and the size option chosen when exported. If you are producing a DVD, you drag the file from iDVD's Media-Movies pane onto the Theme background.
Also, when sharing to the media browser I can only save it as "medium" quality...the other choices arent available?
Then AppleMan's earlier advice will be correct (as always) - he recommended using the Medium setting based on your QuickTime details. It appears that your original MP4 video has an aspect ratio of 4:3, unless your Project settings are incorrect. You set the dimensions (standard 4:3, widescreen 16:9 or iPhone 3:2) of the project in File>Project Properties then selecting the General tab.
In iMovie '09, I've mainly worked with AVCHD video which produces .MTS files that are converted to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) on import. This is high definition footage which iMovie can import as 1920 x 1080 or 960 x 540 (both widescreen 16:9). Hence, on export I can share at Large (960 x 540) or HD (1280 x 720). I'm not sure why you are only seeing a Medium option - could be due to the aspect ratio or maybe it's standard definition in MP4 format (just guessing!). If other options are greyed out, have you tried ticking the boxes - that activates each option for me.
