Help menu is blank

All versions, stable, beta, and nightly, when the ? mark is selected, the help menu display is blank. Unable update or turn off add ons.

You can use one of these to start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u>:
*On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
*On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
*Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode

    I have an imac running 10.6.8 os and when trying to use the help menu in itunes 11.2.2 I get a list of topics but upon clicking on a topic the next window comes up blank. Itunes used to be a good program but it seems upon every upgrade something else doesn't work right. Now when adding CDs it seems you have to manually go to All Music .com and copy and paste your artwork in the info window. This used to work  on previous versions without manual intervention.

    Hello there. I've been trying to design a GUI providing the users with help function as well. I create the html file, map file(in .jhm format) and HelpSet (in .hs format) and run the help menu via hsviewer. The first problem is that when the hsviewer runs the application a blank help window appears on the screen. The second one is that when I try to make a link between the help menu and the GUI I have written by using the sample code given in javahelp's pdf file I see a few error messages on NETBEANS' screen. Could anyone help me solve the problems I have faced so far? In addition, aint there any other method, like a template help menu, that I could use to compose my own one?

  • Help menu won't work

    Hi all! I'm runnigOS 10.3.8 on my iBook. I was trying to figure out a better way to burn CDs (it drives me crazy that it won't let me save the project). Anyway, when I go to the Apple help menu, I get the following message: No matching help topics were found. It then goes on to explain how I should use different words to find what I'm looking for... but there's no place to enter the words.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • CS3 Help Menu "Move Items" Dialog Box

    CS 3.0.1, WinXP Pro. When I open the Help menu, I get a dialog box called "Move Items." It lists folders and says, "Select the place where you want to move 'help.html' then click the Move button." I click Cancel, it comes up again, I hit Cancel, and the html Help file opens. I recently hit the Move button, and had to repair the installation to get Help to work again. Must that dialog box come up?

    Thanks Peter. However, the Move button blanks out when I choose that folder (which makes sense). If I move it somewhere else, Dr. Watson Postmortem shuts down and everything locks up or Help no longer works. Guess I'll just live with the infinitesimal inconvenience of the situation as is. I rarely use the Help menu, so it's not a big deal.

  • Problems with the help menu.

    Hi. I'm a new iMac user and have had problems using the help menu on my computer. Every time I click on help and search a topic I get a blank untitled window. Nothing ever opens up in the window and then the spinning beach ball comes up. It is only in the blank window and I am still able to use the computer normally. I am unable to close or force quit the program and have to restart to get rid of it. I have called tech support and spent over an hour on the phone with no help and ended up reinstalling the operating system. Still having the same problem. Anyone have some advice or have had a similar problem?

    Try reindexing the hard drive via Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Spotlight.
    Drag the hard drive into the Privacy section, and the select it in that section, and select the minus sign in the bottom left corner below the field holding the drive.
    Click then on Spotlight every half hour to wait until the Indexing status no longer shows up.
    If Help still doesn't come up entirely, try clicking on the clear jewel in the upper right corner of the Help menu. It may reveal the search field. If it doesn't, quit from the Help Viewer application menu, and then go to com.apple.helpviewer.plist and delete it. Help should then load normally.
    If it still doesn't, try repairing permissions with Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility.
    In the end, if that still doesn't work, let us know, and we might suggest something else.

  • Help Menu Quits when using Internet Connect

    When a new user account (with admin. priveleges) is opened, the help menu functions perfectly. After connecting to the Internet (modem) the help menu will not function. (can't get any response on any underlines or ? window). I've tried the file deletions suggested in theXlab document, checked the internet connection using "ping' report with no luck. No 3rd party add-ons. I can use any program and return to help and it is operable, until I connect to the internet.
    To again get to help, I must create a new user account. This restores the help for tryouts until invoking internet connect. Using OSX 10.4.5. Any suggestions. Apple phone support is referring this to some tech support person.
    Am I alone with this problem???

    I've been using Tiger on this G4 for several months. Today, I clicked on Help menu in the Finder window. The viewer came up, but it was blank.
    At the same time, something happened to my Airport, but I got connected through Diagnostics.
    How can I get my Mac Help working?

  • Help menu disappears

    Hi - None of the things on the board have worked. If I try and access Mac Help from the Finder menu it flashes the Viewer blank and then closes. If I access Mac Help from Spotlight, I can get the actual help content. But why is it opening (&quitting) a blank window when I go Finder>Help>Mac Help

    Hi Allan. I have had on and off for some time problems with my Mac help viewer. I can get the home pane then nothing loads after that.
    I have followed the suggested link to the X lab and deleted the folders they suggest in lib>pref and lib>cache but this does not resolve the problem.
    According to the X lab instructions I should trash from lib>pref the com.apple.helpui.plist folder. I could not find one.
    The help menu for other applications are OK.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Finder help menu

    I find my finder help menu running too slow. This only happens to the help menu found in the desktop/finder. The help menu doesn't act as slow as long as I open it from any application other than the one for finder.
    After a while it "unexpectedly quits".

    Do try sleonard's suggestion to repair permissions, but if that doesn't improve things, there is a small procedure outlined in this Apple document:
    Mac OS X: Can't access Help content, or content is blank or missing links

  • No Help Menu on my Mac

    I often use the help menu in the Finder. However, when I pull down the help menu in the finder, a blank dialog box comes up with no help? Any tips

    If you need more reassurance, I have done something like what Kappy described numerous times with absolutely no untoward consequences. I have had the Help window disappear at least a half dozen times during the past several months. I have a Stickies note with the names of the help.plist files and helpui folder Kappy listed. I then immediately go to my Macintosh HD/Users/myusername/Library/Preferences folder and move the com.apple.help.plist and the com.apple.helpviewer.plist files to the Trash and then in the Macintosh HD/Users/myusername/Caches folder, move the com.apple.helpui folder to the Trash.
    At first I only removed the .plist files, without removing the com.apple.helpui folder which Kappy included, and it worked to let me use Help again immediately, but the problem kept recurring. After also removing the com.apple.helpui folder, it seems the problem is gone.
    Also, at first I moved them to the Desktop, as conelius suggested so I could get them back if it caused problems, but now I just move them directly to the Trash and empty it. A restart is not required as it is when removing some system .plist files, and Help works perfectly again. The system will automatically replace those corrupted files with fresh new files when it does not find them in the Preferences and Caches folders.
    I’m not the OP so I can’t give you a star, Kappy, but with five bars already, you probably wouldn’t notice. I can give you my thanks, though.

  • Online Help in Help Menu not displaying

    When selecting iTunes Help under the Help menu, I am only getting a blank screen, never any content. Other Help menus in other apps are working correctly.

    David - couldn't open your link: but deleting the helpviewer preferences file (com.apple.helpviewer.plist)from preferences folder in your 'username'library should fix the problem (also fixes problem with help menu in other ilife applications e.g. following installation of ilife'11).

    When I click iTunes Help from the Help menu in iTunes, I get a blank window. Same thing happens if I select iPod User Guide. Does anybody have an idea of why help will not launch?

  • Adobe AE CS4 Help Menu nonfunctional

    AE Help, Scripting Help, Expression Reference, Animation Presets, Keyboard Shortcuts are all nonfunctional under the Help menu. Registration, Deactivation etc. are functional. This AE is with CS4 Premium Production on Windows Vista. This has been a problem since initial installation. It remained a problem on reinstallation a year and a half later. Is there a file that did not load from the disk that I should be aware of? I was hoping for updates to correct this but that has not happened.

    I resolved the problem in CS4 by uninstalling and reinstalling AE. Evidently when I installed it from disk it didn't all install. The AE I have is part of a suite (PP) and I probably reinstalled the whole thing. CS5 has the Help pdf popping up when I am searching from the application window. This is a hindrance. See my problem for December 2011.
