Help menu issue

"Help" doesn't work on my Mac. That is, from the finder I click on the Help menu item, the window starts to load, but then it quits without opening.
I have recently upgraded to Leopard from Tiger 10.4.11

Go to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder and delete these files:
com.apple.help.plist
com.apple.helpviewer.plist
If you also see com.apple.helpui.plist delete that too.
Then navigate to /Home/Library/Caches/ folder and look for a folder named com.apple.helpui. If you find it then delete it as well.

URGENT HELP: Menu Issue

Hello,
I am using captivate 2 and will be updating to 3 shrtly. I
have an issue with the menu feature. If i want a menu I can only
get a drop down which appears on top left, center or right. I would
prefer a menu where I can list all the chapters on the left hand
column so users can follow a project and jump fwd or back through
chapters. How can i get this? Is there another adobe flash or menu
skin product which I can import my captivate project into to get
this feature. I notice this is possible for breeze. sample:

To accomplish this you will need to rely on resources
external to Captivate. Possibilities include:
1. If you have multiple Captivate movies to present, you
could use a "Flash Wrapper" to present them. One is provided free
of charge at
this
link.
An update for that also appears at

2. You could design your own menu as part of the slide
design.
3. You could purchase a template from KC Web Plaza that has
navigation like this pre-constructed and save the steps of number 2
above.

Solution to Keynote Double Help Menu Issue

Hello,
I posted on September 24th that Keynote 2.0.2 was freezing when I minimized a slideshow window.
On Sept. 28 Kyn Drake told another writer with the same problem to uninstall the DiVX Codec and the Double Help Menus would go away.
I also found two Help Menus; I hadn't noticed them before.
I searched in Users>Library>Quicktime> and I found a file called "DivX 5.component." Removing that from the folder and restarting Keynote solved the problem.
The double menu went away and the freezing problem vanished.

Issue in customized help menu

Hi,
There is a requirement to customize the help menu in standard SAP menu bar. For that I have created a function code in se41 in MENUSYST and status MEN and taken function code type as 'T'. Also created a Z transaction code with a program to call a intranet URL attached to it.
Now the issue is whenever I click on the option in the help menu from some other screen (se38 or se11) apart from start screen S000. The browser starts and the web page is opened but the screen always resets to SAP intial screen(S000).
Can anyone suggest whether the function code type needs to be changed or is there any other issue.

As explained in the field help, T corresponds to LEAVE TO TRANSACTION, so what happens is normal (note: you can see that menu item System | Utilities | Authorization check behaves as yours).
As I could see in the forum, what you need to do is to choose function type H (help), and modify standard function module HELP_START.

Try moving these files to the Trash one at a time and test (but don't empty yet.)
/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist
/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.LSSharedFileList.pl ist
If doing this doesn't help, then navigate to this location and delete the cache (but not the enclosing folder.)
/Users/yourusername/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpviewer
All are located in your home folder Library.

Technical issues with update function in help menu

This is likely not the correct place, but I was not able to ascertain where I should ask this. I have the full CS6 suite, and am unable to get anything to happen when I attempt to use the update function within the help menu of any of the programs in the suite. I have even tried to use the update program that came with the suite, but still nothing works. When in the programs, I click the link listed as "updates" and nothing happens what so ever. This is a common occurance regardless of the specific program.
My system specs:
Athlon X6 CPU
16Gb ram
Radeon HD 6950 2Gb
ASrock extreme 3 mb
Hard drive is a pair of seagate 500Gb drives in RAID0 array
OS is Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Current version showing in Photoshop and Illustrator is 13.0.1

That's what you want. Want to see it work? "import metadata" for a database table. Open the data service that is created. Execute the function with the same name as the table. Click on the "Edit" button, change some data, click on Submit. You've done it. Re-execute the function with the same name as the table to see the modified data.
And it doesn't stop there - you can build logical data services on top of that physical data services, and when you update data in the logical data service, the changes will be propagated to the underlying physical data services.

Apple kidnapped my Photoshop CS5 Help Menu

Hi,
I've taken a break from using my CS5 Photoshop program and was needing help editing text, so I clicked on "Help" like I did when I was taking a class in Photoshop last year. All the Help Menu brings up now are things related to my Apple computer. I know a call to Apple Care will result in something like, "We don't troubleshoot Adobe products," so I'm wondering if anybody knows where my Photoshop Help Menu topics disappeared to.
Did I only have them for a year? Did the Help Menu expire? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

InDesign CS3 Help Menu opens constantly

The InDesign CS3 Help Menu opens constantly every time I click anywhere in a document to do anything.
Such as draw a box, insert type, anything. It virtually renders the program unuseable. I click to make an addition to a doc, travel up to the help menu to close it, do my thing, then repeat for the next action. Reinstalling has not stopped this. I cannot disable the Help Menu (which would be a fine solution BTW). I cannot afford to upgrade to CS4 right now. I am not sure that would stop it anyway. Photoshop, Illustrator, no other program in the CS3 suite exhibits this behavior. Anybody got any ideas? I recently recreated my whole OS and all programs on a new hard drive out of necessity. InDesign was doing this before that rebuild, and it does it now (after the reinstall). CS3 was reinstalled clean. That did solve a serial # issue with Acrobat where it wouldn't launch. I didn't transfer anything from the old hard drive except e-mail and internet settings.

Are you using the default keyboard shortcut set or a custom one? Also, are you using any special mouse, keyboard or tablet input devices?
Try going to Edit->Keyboard Shortcuts->Help menu Product Area and see what the default Help shortcut is. Perhaps it has been set to something crazy like "mouse click". You may just set the Keyboard Shortcuts back to [Default] set and see if that does the trick too.
Alternatively, something either software or hardware related in your setup is frequently triggering that event, which may be the case if you have a non-apple kbd, mouse etc installed.

Did you use the Migration Assistant to help set up the new iMac using some of the files in the older PC? Some likely won't mean much, unless you have applications that can use or convert them. There's also a way to use the software Time Machine to import data files from an external or another computer, so you may have used that, too.
Hopefully someone with experience in a similar issue will reply...

Window Properties (HTML Help) - Placement Issues

I am compiling my online help in Robohelp 8 and have an issue with the window placement of the Help menu output. I have a dual monitor setup so the Help window appears on the primary monitor. Is there a setting or configuration that instructs the Help menu to open up as a child to the parent application that's calling the Help?

Make sure there are no carriage returns lurking inside the
JavaScript (depending on how the content was wrapped when you
selected it to Copy/Paste). One way to be sure is to copy it to
Notepad and turn off the Wrap feature; any line breaks will be
obvious.

Clicking on help menu causing audio engine to bug out

anyone having issues with logics audio engine bugging out after clicking on the top help menu while logic is playing? not sure how to explain what it sounds like when this happens but i have to reboot my audio engine for it to go away.... i primarily work at 96k and have tried all other sample rates and still get the same thing...

I started having this issue a while back (late December/early January) and have gone through several things but have yet to get a resolution. The latest was a technical support call with Apogee (I'm running a Symphony system). Their assessment was that the problem is not Apogee-related and lives within Logic.
The problem, on my system, can also be triggered by several other actions. For example, if I click the solo button on one track and then slide across the channel strip to solo a group of track I will get distorted audio. The workaround is to either restart Logic or go to preferences and make a change that forces a core audio reset. I have been able to work around the issue but it's still an issue and I'm hoping to find a solution that doesn't involve clean Logic re-install or even fresh OS install.
I looked all over trying to find other people having this issue. So far I've only managed to find a couple folks seeing this problem. Mostly, I just wanted to chime in and add to the list of users experiencing the issue and let you know that I'll gladly post any relevant information that I come across that will enable to us to solve the problem.

Using the Microsoft help icon (?) in a customised tab integrated in the help menu

I am using the Visual Studio and customizing it for my company. I want to use their help icon in a tab in the help menu which is personalized and integrated with the Visual studio build. I am unable to find the image (?) used. Can anyone help me in locating
the image and how to reference it so that I can use it for my integrated menu.

The real issue is that which VS version you were using.
For the VS2010, it has the VS2010ImageLibrary.zip. This file is typically installed in … \Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\VS2010ImageLibrary\1033\.
Please Extract All for this zip file, and then follow the directions to extract the images.
You could get the help image here:
...\VS2010ImageLibrary\_Common Elements\Objects
But like VS2013, as James's suggestion, you would download it by yourself.

Acrobat 8 hangs when selecting "Help" menu...

I'm running the latest (all updates as of today) version of Acrobat Pro and the latest version of OS X 10.5.4 on a Mac Pro. Whenever I move my mouse of the Help menu, Acrobat stall I first get the old wristwatch, then the beachball spins. It takes between at least 1-2 minutes before I can do anything again. If I don't just sit there and wait (ie. if I go to another program), I gotta do the whole thing over again.
Anyone else experience this?
I've tried permission repairs, deleted prefs, etc. etc.
Any help would be appreciated!

Same problem. Acrobat Pro 8.1 was rock solid under Tiger. Performed an Archive and Install upgrade to Leopard two months ago and have had the same performance issues on a dual 2.3 GHz G5 running Acrobat Pro 8.1.2. Click on the Help pull down menu and the OS9 wristwatch appears for 30-45 seconds then transforms into the spinning beachball before the menu displays. When it finally appears the "Activate" option is completely missing. When I select Document/Reduce File Size in a multi-page pdf I get the same OS9 wristwatch and what use to take a few seconds for a 5 or 6 page document can take up to a minute and the processor use in Activity Monitor pegs at +100%. Same result in Safe Boot startup mode or with extensions off or with new user with admin privileges. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and spent 2 entire days trying every combination imaginable and I'm convinced the application itself is hosed. Adobe Tech Support is out of suggestions. Illustrator CS3 works fine except I get the same OS9 wristwatch when it loads. Sad to hear you get the same OS9 wristwatch on a MacPro with no OS9 capability. Call me a fool but I'm upgrading to Acrobat 9 and hope this will resolve these issues.
