HELP!  Missing?? for Mpeg Streamclip

First, forgive me if this question is too simplistic but my knowledge is basic, at best.
I just had a new hard drive installed on my vintage iMac (10.9.2. was installed on it) and am busy trying to replace the apps I knew and used and loved.
I have downloaded mpeg streamclip 1.9.3b8 but am obviously missing something else as it will not work for me (video screen remains white/blank). What else do I need to buy/install/download to get it to work?
Many thanks!
HJ

Did you install The MPEG-2 Component?
See: http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion and Mountain Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion and Mountain Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion or Mountain Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b8 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component M. Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion or Mountain Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion and Mountain Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion and Mountain Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.
Also read the information for Snow Leopard below.
Snow Leopard and MPEG-2 Playback Component
The Snow Leopard upgrade DVD released on August 28, 2009 may wipe the content of the /System/Library/QuickTime folder during the upgrade process, and delete your MPEG-2 Playback Component installed in that folder. To use MPEG-2 files with MPEG Streamclip you have to reinstall the MPEG-2 component or restore it from a backup copy.
If you are going to upgrade to Snow Leopard
Open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder and drag the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file to your desktop to make a copy of it. Then upgrade to Snow Leopard. When the upgrade is complete, open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder again and move the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file from the desktop to the /System/Library/QuickTime folder (enter your administrator password if necessary).
If you already upgraded to Snow Leopard
You have to reinstall or restore your MPEG-2 Playback Component.
If you have a Time Machine backup of your System folder, then open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder, enter Time Machine and go back in time until you see the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file; select that file and then click Restore.
If you purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the Apple Online Store, then you probably still have the DMG file that contains the installer. Use Spotlight to search for "QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg": if you find a file with that name, double-click it and then in the disk image, double-click the installer package for Intel Macs.
If you purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the Apple Online Store but you can't find the QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg file, you can download the file again from the Apple Online Store if you remember the Apple ID used when you originally purchased it (if you forgot your Apple ID then go to Apple iforgot). Visit the Apple Online Store, click on "Account" in the store menu, then click "Downloadable Software Purchases," enter your Apple ID and password, and click the link to the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component to download it again.
If you obtained the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the installation of Final Cut Studio, then you can reinstall it again from the Final Cut Studio DVD. Insert the DVD and use the Finder's Go menu > Go To Folder... command to get to the /Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/ folder inside the DVD. Locate the QuickTimeMPEG2.pkg or the QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg installer: double-click it to reinstall the MPEG-2 component.

  • Best setting for mpeg streamclip conversion of mpeg2 to mov

Through this forum I learned about mpeg streamclip. Thanks so much! Now I am able to convert an mpeg to a mov and keep the audio and quality, etc. Now my problem is that I am building a site, refering to the movies externally so they play in quicktime, which is working but they take too long to load and play. The info is:
    Format: MPEG-4 Video, 320 x 240, Millions AAC, Stereo, 48.000kHz
    FPS: 15
    Data Size: 1.23 MB
    DRate: 340.34 kbits/sec
    Time: 00:00:02.10/15
    Duration: 00:00:30.6/15
    Size: 320 x 240 pixels
That's not a big file but for some reason it's taking long to load. I've seen so many clips online that just play right away and they seam long. What am I doing incorrect when I exported to Quicktime?
Thanks in advance for any help. I've spent way too much time on this part of this project!

Use QuickTime Pro and encode video with H.264. Take a look at this post and look for 'Fast-Start.'

  • Best settings for MPEG Streamclip

    Hi all,
Being forced to work off DVD source due to lack of options and want to ensure that I get the best possible results. Am using MPEG Streamclip and did a trial run to convert it into DV, converted the audio to 48khrz.
Picture was real time but audio needed rendering.
Can anyone advise me on the best possible settings for quality and realtime playback?
I'll be deliving in uncompressed quicktime and DVD.
Also, new to FCE and want to know where the best place to store the files I convert? Is this what the Sctatch disk is for?
Thanks in advance for your help, work on a weekend is never fun but you might just be able to help me get to the pub for a bit at least!

You converted to the wrong format. Do not convert to DV. Convert to QuickTime using DV PAL as the compressor. The frame rate is 25fps. The quality slider makes no difference.
You can only work in DV or Apple Intermediate Codec for HD in FCE. You cannot work in uncompressed formats so you're media has to be converted to DV.
I'm doing the same thing, but I'll be needing NTSC. I see in the Export to Quicktime dialog that there is no simple DV NTSC listed. The most promising-looking compression formats appear to be Apple DVCPRO50 - NTSC, Apple DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, Apple Intermediate Codec, Apple FCP Uncompressed 8(or 10)-bit 4:2:2.
Or is it better to use the Export to Other Formats dialog, and select QuickTime?
This is the first time I've used MPEG Streamclip (and I've only recently started using FCE 4), so I'm a little confused. What are the best settings to use for video that will be imported to FCE for NTSC?
    Thanks.

  • Optimal settings for MPEG Streamclip convering mpgs to quicktime format

    Hello Folks,
a newbie to this video converting world.
I've got loads of mpgs from the past, which I'm trying to convert to Quicktime(mov) format for use on my apple tv and also to publish to DVDs.
    I tried the following:
    - Compression - Apple Intermediate Codec
    - Quality - 100%.
My 1G mpg file was converted to a 10G file!! I dont think I can afford to convert at this rate.
Can someone recommend an optimal setting on MPEG streamclip for this conversion with a balance on file size/quality?
    thanks in advance!
    karthik

No. You would need to upscale to HD and that's never good. Some TVs, expensive ones, can uprez fairly well, most can't. SD just looks very poor on an HD display.
Yes, sorry, the frame size needs to be 720x480, the standard DV format. Funny, I knew as I was typing it that there was something I was forgetting to include.

  • Help missing for PS CS2 on Vista

I installed both Premiere Pro 2.0 and Photoshop CS2 on Vista. The Help files are available for Premiere Pro 2.0 but not available for Photoshop CS2. Tried all steps outlined in Adobe TechNote 319210 for cases when Help Center content is missing. However, none of these steps solved the problem. Help for Photoshop CS2 is still not listed in Help Center.
Thanks for any tips or directions on getting Help to work for Photoshop CS2 running on Vista.

Thanks for the replies. Tried the following, as suggested, but no success.
    1) Looked in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Help\en_US\ but no Photoshop or Premiere folder. There was an Adobe Reader folder with the Help.html however.
    2) Went to FAQs and followed steps provided in post there. Cleared the Help Preferences, then deleted the Cache, Database, Preferences, and Search folders under ...\AdobeHelpData\. Left the Packages folder with the Photoshop_9.0_en-us.zip and PremierePro_2.0_en-us.zip files, then double clicked the ahc.exe file. Help Center appeared but no indication that rebuilding was taking place, and the Help Center content was empty (not even Premiere Pro). I looked at the directory structure under ...\AdobeHelpData\ and Help Center did rebuild the folders previously deleted.
Restored folders under ..\AdobeHelpData\ to original status and executed Help Center again. As expected, Premiere Pro appeared in the content but not Photoshop CS2.
The product version of Help Center I am using on Vista is 2.1.212002.0.
Tried to reinstall Help Center (using download from Adobe), but installation was aborted. The error mesg only said that a problem occurred, but gave no details.
I do not think this is a Vista problem since Help Center works fine with Premiere Pro 2.0. However, not sure.
Is there anything else I can try?

  • Settings for mpeg streamclip?

I'm trying to convert some 8cm dvd's from a sony handycam.
The footage is in widescreen PAL.
    I'm converting to QT.
What are the best settings to use?
Commpression? Apple DV PAL or ?
    Frame size?
    Frame rate?
    Frame blending & better downscale?
    The interlace options?
    Zoom?
    Cropping?
    Scale?
Also the 2-pass option is not highlighted to select!
And what easysetup do i then use in FCP? PAL anamorpic

    ok, thanks guys,
    so i made the frame size 1024 x 576, 25 fps, uncompessed 8bit 4:2:2.
and imported it into an uncomp 8bit sequence but there is alot of interlacing which i'm guessing the deinterlace filter will knock out!
other prob is the files are huge and i don't think i will have enough HD for the all the media files.
should i go back to DV pal compession in Mpeg streamclip

  • Infoset Query- F4 help missing for few selection fields

    Dear Experts,
While creating Infoset/ Quick view queries, I find few fields of the selection screen are not having F4 help.
How this happens and How to correct this?
    Regards
    Jogeswara Rao

    Jogeswara Rao,
In case when the reference table field doesn't contain a match code / Search help,You should be assign Match code object to the selection field while defining the same. When you define the selection criteria in the info sets, use the "Extras" field there to assign a specific match code for the work center object . (In your case MATCHCODE OBJECT CRAM. CRAM is the search help for work center field).

  • MPEG Streamclip compressors???

I dont know which compressor to use and what setting should i adjust to get best quality picture on my TV.
Iam converting .MOD format to quicktime .MOV, from there i import that to iDVD but when i finaly burn that on dvd the picture quality on TV is crap.
It must be the compressor and settings, did anyone have similar problems?HELP
    Thank you

    According to:
    Wikipedia
Many MOD files are actually MPEG-2 files. Straight Quicktime format is uncompressed video. It may be in the process it is attempting to scale up from the compressed to uncompressed. I would say it is best to stick with the same compression format if you can. MPEG-2 playback component which you can buy at the Apple Store can help. This really is a question for MPEG Streamclip's e-mail:

  • Best MPEG Streamclip settings

I've looked at the prior discussions of this subect on these forums and they are several years old, therefor may not be accurate for FCPx, and some refer to screenshots of settings which are no longer available.
I am having to import video from disc sources since the original source material is no longer available. I want to bring the best possible quality into FCP possible so as not to degrade the video/audio quality any further. I have been advised to use an uncompressed intermediate format but some of the previous posts on the subject indictate this is not an option when bringing video into FCP.
So, what are the best settings for MPEG Streamclip for this purpose. Most of the video in question was what would be classified as standard def, some as high def (at least 720p, possibly some 1080p). Output will likely be in various formats and viewed on various devices, up to (and including) 1080p screens. So I'd rather keep the quality at as high a level as possible throughout the process.
    Thank you in advance.

Tom, I had this same question last week. I'd like you to expound, if you could. Two Q's:
1.) What is the difference between "HQ" (obviously "high-quality") and "LT?"
2.) When converting MPEG-2 for edit in FCPPX, I found "Apple FCP Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 worked VERY well. So, is "422LT" better?

  • Error message exporting from mpeg streamclip to quicktime

I have downloaded the mpeg streamclip and the $20.00 mpeg2 component. I can open the files from a DVD but when I try to export it to quicktime in order to import to iMovie I get the following error message:
    "can't create the MOV file"
I have tried creating smaller clips and exporting those but get the same error message.
I am very new to using mpeg streamclip and this is the first time I have used iMovie. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Allison

The VOB files should work in MPEG Streamclip.
Try dragging a single VOB file to mpeg streamclip. See if it will play in the MPEG Streamclip Viewer.
Then try FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME/Apple Intermediate Codec in original dimensions for Video Codec and uncompressed for Audio Codec. Give it a filename. If that works, open iMovie and select FILE/IMPORT/FILMS and select your clip you just created.
You may also want to check the Squared 5 website for MPEG Streamclip to see if they have any advice.

  • Please help with converting mpeg 1 movies..

I have a Hitachi video camera that is not recognised by imovie. It outputs in mpeg1 format. Downloaded MPEG streamclip and tried to convert it, my problem is the video ended up having interlace problems when ther is any movement..
Can someone tell me what format is best for imovie and the setting for mpeg streamclip?
I am about to finally give up, and start using my girlfriend's PC...

I do not know how vital if for you, but if it really is, MPEG2 Works 4 will convert MPEG 1's to MPEG 2's, you could *then transfer the MPEG 2 into iM08* or transcode to something else.
Unfortunately is not free, but you could go to the website, and **_download a trial version_*, and convert that single file or other few if you need to and then trash it. If you do get it, do the following:
1.- Go to the "VCD" Tab
    2.- Click on "MPEG 1 > MPEG 2",
3.- It will ask you for the input file, select your MPEG 1, and then will ask you for the place to save it.
Once you have the MPEG 2, you need to trick iM08 in order to import it. Pay attention to this, since iM08 supposedly ONLY imports MPEG 2 directly from the camcorder. Do not panic, this is not correct, you can trick it doing the following.
With a USB flash memory drive, or an external hard drive, create on it a folder named MP_ROOT, inside it create a folder named 101PNV01, now put your mpg-2 files in this folder. Have iMovie open; after creating these files and putting the mpeg2's on it, disconnect the drive from your computer, now, when you re-connect, is like connecting a camera, and with iMovie open already, it will tell you that you have connected a camera etc, etc, now import into iMovie 08.
I use this to import mpeg 2's.
Remember to create this at the root level, at the very highest level in your external hard drive or USB. I do not use a USB stick because my files are very large, I use a external hard drive, so if one does not work for you, try the other one, if you have both.

Check out this thread, it explains this and other possibilities. I do not take credit for this trick, somebody else described it.

  • Using MPEG Streamclip for Mac. Help me if you can

Hi, I've found out about MPEG Streamclip in Apple Discussions.
I opened Streamclip for the first time and converted an .mpg file to .mov file by clicking File>Export to Quicktime. It successfully converted quickly and I opened it w/ Quicktime and was satisfied to open its properties and see two individual tracks for visual and audio. This should convert to iPod video format w/ sound, correct? What bugs me is the fact that the file size multiplied by 4, or went from 256MB to 1GB.
I would like to know the perfect exporting settings for good iPod quality (sound and visual) and reasonable size. What scares me is that if and when this newly 1GB file is converted to iPod, it'll be even larger, since a previously successfully converted movie went from 3.5MB to 5.1MB.
I'd like to know your experiences of using Streamclip. Should I experiment? What setting did you use to get the mpeg files to .mov files with smallest size and equivalent quality? Any reply is appreciated, and ones that answer my questions shall be favoured.
    thnx for your time

In a nutshell, YES you should experiment. You should also try iSquint incidentally.
However, MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1 has an iPod button if you do File -> Export to MPEG4. Clicking that button sets the parameters to equal what the iPod would need to display without having to convert to a QuickTime movie first. Do one both ways to see if QuickTime and MPEG Streamclip's output looks identical (I've found QuickTime does a better job on animation).

  • Help! FCE won't accept anything I export from MPEG Streamclip 1.9

I've searched the forums, and I've done it before, and this should be the answer:
Exporting from MPEG Streamclip to QT using the DV/DVCPRO-NTSC codec should work to make a movie FCE will import in the DV-NTSC Easy Setup without the need to render!
It doesn't work anymore. I swear. I've tried every Easy Setup, tons of combinations of MPEG Streamclip exports (all QT) and Easy Setup for the past 2 hours. No matter what export I try, FCE won't accept it without the need to render.
