Help , missing guided edit

Hello!  I moved Elements 10 to my new Windows 8 computer and now cannot access the Guided Edit function which I use for composite group photos.  I tried to reset preferences as suggested by previous postings, this did not help   Please advise.  Thanks,

Uninstall and reinstall it.

  • Missing guided & quick edit palettes in PSE10

Help! In PSE10 the palettes in guided & quick edit are missing also photo collage, photo book, etc. are missing from the orgainizer.  When I go the the guided edit the palette on the right hand side is a black blank space.  In the organizer if I click on the photo book tab or some of the other tabs it takes me to PSE full edit?

    Hi Ken,
Thanks for your response. Yes I did install 3rd party actions. After trying to reset my paletts and preferences which didn't work, I found a similar problem on the discussion page which said the solution was to uninstall and reinstall, that's what I've done. Everything is working again.

  • Photoshop Elements 10: Guided Edit options missing.

My Full Edit is working just fine...however, when I click on Quick or Guided Edit, the options for editing are all missing.
(These are the edits that come up on the right hand side.) I don't know if I clicked on something to make them go away...but
I have tried clicking on, "Reset Panel" a few times thinking that might work...but nothing has changed. Any idea on how to get
the editing options back on the screen? Thanks!

PSE 11 works differently. To delete the prefs there, go to the Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Editor>Preferences and click this button, then restart the program. No keystrokes needed:

  • Guided edit features missing

    I have a Mac running OS 10.7. I have Photoshop Elements 10.
When I select the Guided Edit tab, there are no options available. The only tools are zoom, hand, and set foreground color. Everything else is gone. The open file is centered in the blank page, and most of the menu items are unavailable, with the exception of filters.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the program and rebooted. I have also deleted the two database files, as suggested in another post, and they were rebuilt.
I do not have a lot of experience with this program, but I have read enough of the help file to know that there are supposed to be guided edit options available, such as actions, enhance colors, etc. The menu bar has very few options available from the guided edit window. In fact, the only way to get back to the full edit window is to shut down and restart the program.
Please tell me what is wrong. Thank you!

Glad you got it working. Just for future reference, to repair permissions go to applications>utilities>disk utility, click your hard drive in the list on the left side of the window, then click Repair Permissions. This can take a while, so don't fret, and don't freak over all the messages you may see scrolling by in the window. All's well unless you see a red warning at the end of the whole process that says that the repair failed. This is good to do after installing applications that use installers (as opposed to drag and drop into applications), and also after system updates.

  • Elements 10 trial doesn't show guided edit and other menus

I've just downloaded and installed the Photoshop Elements 10 trial for the second time.
I shut down my firewall and internet security while installing.
The program loads fine but when I click on Guided edit, the panel on the right is blank.
This is the same for Quick edit.
The help files also won't load.
    I'm running a Windows 7 on a 64 bit machine.
    Please help!

Try clicking the re-set panels button on the top menu bar and see if that makes any difference. Have you tried with an image open. Certainly the Quick edit module remains grayed out usually until you have a photo in the main window.
If that does not fix it you may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts.
Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it.
You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
    Click on Yes
Close down Elements and re-open it in the normal way - then wait whilst it rebuilds the preferences.

  • PSE9 Quick edit and guided edit have disappeared

Hi everyone, hope you can help me.
I downloaded an action, followed the installation advice and installed the action BUT then when I clicked the guided and quick edit tabs (which were kind of ghost letters), there's just blank panels.
The process for downlaoding the action I followed is here:
If you don’t see your action, click on the Filters button, which is the first button on the left under the word Effects. Then, click again on the Photo Effects Button. It really should be there now. If it is, stop now. You’re finished!
If you still don’t see your action, navigate to the 9.0 folder in the path above. Rename the ThumbDatabase.DB3 to anything you choose. You could add today’s date or “version 1″.
Open the Locale folder that is in the same9.0 folder. Open the en_US folder and rename the MediaDatabase.db3 file following the same method used in step 6. (Rather than renaming ThumbDatabase and MediaDatabase, you can actually delete them if you are comfortable with that, or cut them and paste somewhere safe until you know that PSE is working fine.)
Open PSE 9. The opening process will be quite slow as the two databases are being rebuilt. Open an image.
Click on the Photo Effects button (3rd from the left under the word Effects). In the drop-down list to the right of this button, select Show All.
You should be able to find your new action now. If you can’t, see Gotchas section below.
I think point 4 is the problem.
I emailed the place I got the action from:
    http://www.texaschicksblogsandpics.c...shop-elements/
but so far have had no response.
can anyone tell me how to restore quick and guided edit?
    Thanks very much!!

    Thanks Ken,
    I tried that without success,
I also heard back from where I got the download and they said downloading the action will not have caused the problem.
I will uninstall and reinstall from the disc.

  • PSE 11 Guided Edit will not initialize

I've installed PSE 11 on my iMac running OS 10.7.5. Guided edit hangs after initializing about 75% when I try to run it from my main user (administrator) account. It works fine from a second user account. Does anyone have any ideas about getting it to run from my main account? That's where all my photos and other data is. I tried a re-install, and that didn't help.

Well, it took me two days to find where you put this.   So far the adobe system just seems to be delighting in setting up mazes and hoops for its users when they have questions.  I'm just looking for some help with my problem.

  • Elements 11 for Mac: "Guided Edits" stuck on "Initializing"

I purchased and downloaded Elements 11 for Mac. I opened the Photoshop Elements Editor, opened a photo and clicked on the "Guided" Tab. It then said "Initializing" and has been stuck there. I deleted and re-download and installed the program - but the same problem occurs. Also - the welcome screen is non-existant...Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

The welcome screen is a separate program, and unless you deliberately launch it, either from the button in the last screen of the installer or from here:
you won't ever see it. If you want to always start from the welcome screen for some reason (can't think of a good one), launch it from applications and then before you click anything in it, choose Keep in Dock from the dock icon's contextual menu. But it's simpler just to make a dock shortcut for both editor and organizer if you need both and forget about the welcome screen entirely.
For your problem with guided edit, do you have any kind of antivirus or anything from Symantec on your mac? If so, disable it and try uninstalling/reinstalling with it off.

  • Photoshop 10 crashes when I select quick edit and get no response when guided edit selected

PS Elements 10 crashes when I select quick edit and I get no response when guided edit is selected.  Auto edit is working.  Help???

It would help to have more information, but try this: Quit the editor, then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift on a mac). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • Quick and guided edit options menus are gone

quick and guided edit option menus have disappeared.  How do I get them back?

It's probably easiest to uninstall PSE10 and re-install it to undo any changes made by adding those actions.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall PSE, then check to see if any of these folders remain (change the "9.0" to "10.0").  Delete them if they're still there.  (You'll have to temporarily allow viewing hidden files and folders by using Start...Control Panel...Folder Options...View tab.)

  • Guided edit tools?

I have elements 8 & windows 7 and I do not see tools, layers, or panels under the guided edit section of elements.  How do I access these?
I have recently purchased actions which have been loaded as directed, but I cannot manipulate these in any way as shown through tutorials.

    Glad to help.
You might or might not need to do that after adding more actions.  The Texas Chicks explain it very well:

  • Help! While editing a photo in CS3 the program shut down and will not reopen my psd file.

Help! While editing a photo in CS3 the program shut down and will not reopen my psd file. The error message reads "cannot complete your request because of a program error" -- it is a very large file (I have been saving it all along) and I had just "flattened layers" and went to open up a new, blank photo file when it shut down. Is there anyway to get this file to open? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! (p.s. after reading a couple of similar threads, I have a feeling it's hopeless. But I'd also like to know WHY this might have happened!) Thanks in advance!

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to respond and for sharing the article--I did panic. Here are the details of my system:
    Model: HP p7-1247c
Processor: AMD A8-3820 APU with Radeon HD Graphics
Installed Memory: 8 GB (7.48 usable)
    System Type: 64-bit
    Windows 7 Home Premium
I am using Photoshop CS3. It seems that I can work on photos and save them. But I am unable to open them back up. I have tried saving the files as psd and tiff with the same result. The error message is:  "cannot complete your request because of a program error"
The interesting thing is that I can open up InDesign and "place" the psd file within InDesign (then export and save as a jpeg). So I don't think the files are necessarily corrupted. I uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled it last night, but there's no change.
If you have any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Or, should I repost my question with this more complete info? Thank you!
