HELP: moved library to external HD and now I want it back on original drive

So here is what I did: All my music is on an external drive. Got a new bigger external drive because the other one is now full. Followed the instructions on apple's website for moving music libraries from one drive to another, consolidated and everything. I decided I do not like new drive so I wanted everything the way it was on the old drive. The music is there, but now all I get are those terrible exclamation points. When I try to play a song, iTunes can't find the song. under prefs, I have the music folder location pointed in the right direction. I am sure there is an easy fix, but for the life of me, I can not figure it out. I know somebody out there has the answer. Thanks.

my understanding of consolidate is that it COPIES the files to the new, or pointed, location. The files already exist there, and if it does copy the files there again, there will not be enough space. Maybe I don't understand the consolidate function well.

Go into iTunes, select the name of your iphone on the list on the left hand side of iTunes, looks right above the picture of your iphone and you'll see summary info apps etc. go all the way to the right and you'll see photos, check mark the box to sync photos and chose the folder where you imported the photos to your computer from.

You cannot delte youtube from the iphone.
It is either on anohter page, in a folder, or you have restrictions set.

Help! Just copied iTunes media to second external drive and now have broken links in the original drive??

Hi everyone
I wonder if anyone can offer me some advice to rectify the problems I'm experiencing in my itunes?
I have been saving my media to an external hard drive since rebuilding my itunes collection, while keeping the library on the hard drive of my MBP. This was working well with no problems but as my media reached 300GB on my external I thought I would copy it to another external hard drive as back up, and after that I decided to also make a copy of my library data to the same second external drive so I would have a full back up of itunes in case of failure of my main hard drive...
So after copying my media from my first external drive to the second, and then copying the library data from my MBP hard drive it seems the copy of my media and the copied library are working fine on my second external hard drive, but now when I open the first external drive where I originally was saving my media files I am suffering quite a lot of broken links???...I followed the copy process as I have done in the past although I did not tick the check box for renaming and moving my media as it was about to be copied,and I thought that was correct as I used the consolidate function to copy it..
Been trying to figure out how to rectify the problem tonight and am getting nowhere fast. Can anyone offer suggestions as to how I can sort the issue on my original external hard drive as it's the one I prefer to store my media on and it was functioning perfectly before?? from having a tidy and clearly functioning itunes I now have a mass of problems....
I hope this is clear to someone.....as I was hoping to have it fixed in readiness for a new MBP...am I missing something obvious?

OK, this should sort you out...
Move the following files and folders from /Volumes/Backup/iTunes up to /Volumes/Backup/
Album Artwork (folder)
iTunes Library.itl
iTunes Library Extras.itdb
iTunes Library Genius.itdb
iTunes Library.xml
sentinel (hidden)
Launch iTunes. It should warn that the library is missing. Browse to the file /Volumes/Backup/iTunes Library.itl and open it.
Go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced and change the media folder location to /Volumes/Backup/Music. Let iTunes consolidate files if it asks, if not use File > Library > Organize Library... Tick Consolidate files and click OK.
Close iTunes. Rename /Volumes/Backup/Music as /Volumes/Backup/iTunes Media. Start iTunes.
Go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced, check that the media folder location now reads /Volumes/Backup/iTunes Media. If necessary, change and then close and reopen iTunes.
Go to File > Library Organize Library... and, if not greyed out, tick Rearrange files in the folder iTunes Media, then click OK.
Delete /Volumes/Backup/iTunes/iTunes Media which now contains redundant copies.
Move the following files and folders from /Volumes/Backup/ into /Volumes/Backup/iTunes
Album Artwork (folder)
iTunes Media (folder)
iTunes Library.itl
iTunes Library Extras.itdb
iTunes Library Genius.itdb
iTunes Library.xml

Each time you change something and start iTunes just check that a track will play. If not, close iTunes and undo your last action.
That should be it. You can clone this iTunes folder to any other drive and the clone is a functioning copy of your library.

Saved my Library to an external HD and now iTunes wants to erase my iPod Touch to sync with this library

I saved my iTunes Media Library to an external HD prior to reformatting my laptop. I have since reinstalled everything including iTunes. I pointed iTunes to the new Library location, signed into my account on iTunes and everything looks fine. All of my apps, podcasts, music, etc., all show up in iTunes and it even recognizes my iPod. Yay! HOWEVER, when I attempt to sync the iPod iTunes informs my that I can't have it synced to two Libraries and it wants to erase my iPod and sync it with the Library in the new location. I do not relish the thought of having to rearrange my entire 32gb iPod to my liking after erasing and syncing it. Is there anyone with knowledge in this area that can suggest something? Am I missing a setting somewhere or perhaps a work-around for this?

Reboot your Mac and check the available size afterward. If that doesn't help try reindexing the drive: Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes - Apple

Moved Library between PC's and now Itunes is causing the Pc to shut down.

Hi Guys,
sorry this is going to be such a long post but I typed all this out for an apple tech e.mail and they have referred me here. I don't want to type it all again so I've cut it from my original message. In addition to the info below to be clear, I have un-installed and re-installed a couple of times to try and resolve the issue but it's not worked. The machine seems rock solid playingDVD's and the same media files in windows media player.
I can only think it has something to do with the way in which I have transferred my library (Unless it is a hardware fault but It seems stable doing everything else!) I've also deleted all the previous iTunes librarys that came when I ported my files across to the new machine. I'm lost, hope you can help. I think the key is in the event log error messages but I'm not tech enough to understand what I'm being told. Sorry.

I have just transferred my iTunes library from one pc to a new one which will be used as our house media PC. I did this via a network switch.
After downloading iTunes and insytalling i have added my library by "File/Add folder to library" and selected iTunes music folder.
iTunes store works ok but if I try and browse my music collection after 3 or 4 mouse clicks in iTunes library mode the software switches my PC off. The machine is stable under all other applications, it is only in the library that this problem occurs. The shutdown has no warning, it's much like the plug has been pulled.
i have checked the event log and the following messages are present after every crash. Oddly, windows does not detect the crash and the PC re-starts without any blue screens, warnings or prompting for safe mode.

Following the link takes me to the Microsoft Knowledge base but it yields nothing.
iTunes and this library is still functioning on the original PC without a hitch. The library does include 5 albums I bought and downloaded from iTunes, I tried authorising the PC incase it was related but it still crashes.
I assume it must be something to do with the library transfer or the way i have done it. i have not yet mated my ipod with the new machine, is this relevant?
Two other errors relating to iTunes show up in the event log which I will paste below however, iTunes has cause the PC to crash bothe before, and after these events.

Honestly, all the people in all the world that look at this forum, no-one can tell me why my itunes is causing my machine to fall over?
I wiped the machine and started again. Fresh XP install, fresh iTune download, fired it up imported one album and bang. Over it went. I've PC Checked the hard ware, mad onioned the system to see if it's a resource thing but it's rock solid until i open iTunes. Then after every re-boot, the message is back in the event log.

That depends on how you bought it. Did it come preinstalled on your Mac and are you using Lion or Mt. Lion? Then you can probably download iPhoto again from the AppStore:
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.
If iPhoto came on the install disks that came with your Mac, reinstall them from the disk with the added content.
If you bought iPhoto on an iLife CD, install from that.

I've destroyed Quicktime X, and now I want it back.

Hi there.
After having my MacBook stolen a few weeks ago I've recently just purchased a new one and am slowly becoming accustomed to the differences in OSX Lion.
One of which is Quicktime X which apparently is specific to the new operating system, though before about 15 minutes ago this was something I was unaware of.
Understand my frustration that there have been a number of occassions in the last week - one being trying to access movie trailers on the Apple website and it tells me to install a new Quicktime. I try that by following the links, but can't install Quicktime 7, because X is installed and cannot be removed.
This frustration hightened this afternoon when I changed the persmissions of the application allowing me to place it in the trash, though whilst it removed most of the app, there is still some remnants of it there. I have also since tried to install 7 again and it still won't work. I've tried to get an earlier version of Quicktime 10 from my iMac and that won't open either. I've tried to restore X, though its only 346kbs big.. so its safe to say I've screwed the pooch with this one.
Any chance you can point me in the right direction of how I can fix my mistake? It would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue for the most part. I deleted X. I installed QT 7 Pro.
I then ran across some file that needed X but you can't download anywhere since its pre installed in the OS.

Replaced Hard Drive in MacBook Pro - now TC wants to back up whole drive

I replaced the 120 Gig hard drive in my MacBook Pro with a 320 Gig drive and cloned the old drive back to the new one. Time Machine now wants to treat this as a different drive from the one I have backed up on my Time Capsule. How do I convince TM to backup the new drive incrementally to the old image on the TC rather than creating a whole new back up?

The cloning software you used probably does not copy the journaling entries. Since TM relies on the event-driven journaling entries, it has no choice but to start a new full backup all over again.

There isn't a Late 2007 21-inch iMac. I think you are referring to a Mid 2007 20-inch iMac, right?
In that case, you can't give him your iMac with OS X Lion. OS X Lion is registered to your Apple ID, and he won't be able to reinstall Lion unless you give him your Apple ID.
The best you can do is to give him the Mac with Snow Leopard installed, if you have the DVD. Follow these steps:
1. Insert the DVD and hold the C key while your computer is starting.
2. Choose your language, and go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Disk Utility.
3. Choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
4. Close Disk Utility and reinstall Mac OS X. When the installation finishes, hold the mouse or trackpad to eject the disc and turn off the computer.
This is the most recommended way to do it and avoid problems. Anyway, if you insist on giving him the iMac with Lion, you just have to start in OS X Recovery (holding Comman and R keys while your computer is starting), use Disk Utility to erase Macintosh HD as described above, and finally, reinstall Lion with your Apple ID

Instead of removing the music from the cloud or the iTunes library why not shuffle your music using a Smart Playlist which excludes the holiday music, or tracks that are not checked. For example, use this very simple Smart Playlist:
