Help moving all songs. playlists, and apps to a new computer ?

so i've finally gotten a new laptop to replace my old dell one and now i am faced with the problem of moving my library to my new computer. my old computer is still in use, however, and so is my old external harddrive. i have bought a new external harddrive to go with my new laptop.
is there a way that i could copy all my songs into my new harddrive, keep the playlists, playcounts etc. but organise the songs differently on the new harddrive ? because i want to reorganise all my music before putting it into itunes, however i still want the playlists and playcounts to be there. so i guess what i'm trying so ask is if theres a way to completely reorganize my music on the new harddrive, then import that into the itunes on my new computer, complete with playcounts and playlists ?
also, i own an ipod touch 3G, so how would i move all my apps to the new computer as well ?

Click here and follow the instructions.

  • TA47831 Playlists and apps missing on new computer?

I bought a new laptop and restored my songs, movies, etc. in iTunes via external drive.  It looks like everything is back in my iTunes library.  However, I am missing ALL of my playlists and apps.   I'm afraid when I go to sync the iPhone and iPad that everything will be a huge mess and lots of things will be lost on the device.    What should I do?  Any input would be greatly appreciated!

  • I had my laptop that my iphone was backed up onto repossesed so now i have a new computer but i dont know how to put my music photos and video and apps on my new computer can somebody help??

I had my laptop repossesed and it had all my bak up from my iphone 4 on it i have a new computer but i cant put all my pics vids apps and songs on my itunes i really need help with this because alot of the photos and stuff i have on my iphone are sentimental as are the songs which all havnt been purchased through itunes please tell me there is a way to do this??//

Set the iTunes to prevent automatic syncing before you plug it in the first time. You should be able to extract any photos in the camera roll as you would from any other camera. You can transfer purchases to get anything you actually purchased from the iTunes store off the phone and into iTunes. Made sure you have at least 1 contact in whatever application you intend to sync contacts to. This will give you the option to merge them. If you don't, the phone will be overwritten with the blank address book from the computer.
As for extracting anything else, media sync is meant to be 1 way only. Computer>iPhone.
As for media that wasn't purchased on the phone, you can try a 3rd party program that 'may' be able to extract it, but this isn't sanctioned or supported by Apple in any way.  Technically, you're out of luck if you don't have a backup from the computer that was repossesed.

  • Playlists and apps for newly reformatted computer

I recently reformatted my Macbook Pro and did a clean install of Leopard 10.5.6. I backed up the machine using Time Machine. iTunes is working and I reimported all of my music and copied the apps folder for my iPhone. I just need to know where the file for my playlists is?
Also, when I resync my iPhone am I going to lose all of the saved data for my games and everything? I obviously don't want this to happen.
My contacts, calendar, and email are in sync via mobile me.
    Thanks!

*I just need to know where the file for my playlists is?*
Playlists are part of the data set contain in your iTunes Library database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?

  • Moving all music in my itunes to a new computer

I am a windows user and I recently got a new laptop. I was wondering the easiest way to move all my music, purchased and imported for cd's to my new laptop. When I downloaded itunes on the new computer and hooked up my ipod, it told me it was already syncd to another computer and can only be..
Any ideas and help would be appreciated...

You should always have a backup, as computers rarely announce their pending failure.

  • HT201272 If I go into purchases on iTunes and re-download all of my old films, music and apps onto my new computer will it cost anything?

There's a few thousand purchases on there so I want to be 100% sure otherwise it will cost me a fortune!
I'm using the latest version of iTunes & the computer I'm on is authorised on my Apple ID.

If they're available through the process described in the article from which you came here, no, there will be no additional charge. Note, however, that not all content has been licensed for re-downloading in all countries at this time. You can see what content you can download here:

  • How do I preserve my iPads and iPhones settings and apps on a new computer?

I want to wipe my computer and install a fresh version of the lion operating system. The only thing I want preserved are my iTunes library and preferences, and my iPhoto library and preferences. Basically, I want my iPhone and iPad to be able to sync on this new operating system and still have the exact same home screen layouts, app preferences, and music files. I have my iPhone and iPad backing up on iCloud now but I don't know if that backs up app documents too.
If somebody could enlighten me on this subject, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :-)

Download the trial version from the Adobe website.
Install then enter your serial number to license it on your computer.

  • HT4759 Why when I got my new computer now using windows 8. I lost all my playlists and my purchased song list. Im missing so much music....I downloaded Itunes onto the new computer, I logged into my account w/ my apple ID expecting all my stuff to be as i

My issue is just with itunes....not my ipod... Ive been afraid to plug my ipod in to charge it incase it automatically sincs with the Itunes I have now on my new computer since this itunes is empty of my purchased songs and self made playlists. I dont want my ipod erased! I just dont understand why I cant get someone on the phone with their support service with out a serial number?! Itunes does not have a serial number that I can find. I just want my account to be as it was on my old computer. I very much dont want to lose all my music

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

  • Will all my playlists and songs be ok after I organized and consolidated library that was already on external hard drive

I am organizing and consolidating my library in the hopes of keeping all my playlists and libraries intact on myWestern Digital external hard drive.  My current computer, an HP Dv6 Pavillion running Windows 7 is going in for repair for the 2nd time.  When it came back to me to the first time, ITunes was still there unscathed.   I just don't want to take a chance.  If anyone has any ideas to help.
    Thanks
    Heather

When this happens (used to happen to me a LOT), iTunes will have a backup .itl file in the iTunes folder.  Delete the newly created .itl file, rename the backup to iTunes Library.it, and point iTunes to this existing library.  Everything should be back.
I'd guess you have a large library.  Mine started doing this when I got over 50k or so songs, and would happen as I was doing massive updates to the library.

You may need to prepare yourself for a "World of Hurt" from your wife...
Since the average 0.9 megapixel JPEG photo file of normal graphic complexity stored at a high quality compression setting is 125-135 KBs in size, I would have to assume any QT video files you created of more than a fraction of a second in duration were most likely saved as "reference" files to only be 50-150 KBs. Basically, a reference file is q QT (MOV) file that tells a video player how to play data that is still stored in its original source file container(s). For instance, you could trim and merge a number of files together and save the result as a "reference" file that takes up very little room on your hard drive. Or, you could post fles to a server and create a "reference" file that is small enough to be sent as an email attachment that plays the uploaded data on someone else's computer as long as they are connected to the Internet. Unfortunately, for these reference files to work, all of the resources referenced within the file must continue to exist in their proper locations in order to be found and played by the reference. Since you did not indicate what "but they won't play" really means here or how you actually "moved" your iPhoto library files to the external drive, I can only make some "educated guesses" at this point. (BTW: for future reference, iPhoto has a built-in function that allows you to copy your library to one or more back-up locations and then connect to them by default when iPhoto opens or switch source libraries at will within the opened application.)
If you created reference files and saved them to an external drive, you should be getting an error message telling you the app needs to know where the source files are located so the reference file can re-connect to the resource data. If the original files were also saved, then simple navigate to the source files in oder to tell the app where they are now located. If the source files were deleted as part of the reformatting process, then you are up the proverbial creek whithout a paddle with little or no hope of doing anything about this issue. (I.e., reformatting and then re-installing a system drive usually means you would have little hope of recovering the specific "lost" data you want as there is always a good chance that some of the data segments were overwritten during the process.)
