Help-moving pics into various rolls????

Hello there, first post in this forum so be gentle as I try to be as descritive as possible. I am in the process of cleaning my iPhoto 06 library and it was suggested not to do this within Finder but in the App itself. I guess I am wanting to set up rolls for easy keywording after the shots have already been imported. The 'rolls' I speak of are created by my wifes Ixus Canon camera prior to download and not entering anything will just enter them according to dates within iPhoto originals. Say she took X number of pics of two different events that deserve their own 'rolls' or 'titles'. How can these be separated into 2 folders that I can name so they will show up within finder under my chosen name? Am I making sense? Any suggestions would be great and I will keep looking for responses and making things clearer as we get to the solution.
Cheers

Hi, this won't hurt a bit.
In iPhoto, go to the View menu and select "Film Rolls." Also View > Sort Photos > by Film Roll. Be sure to have the Info Panel open (bottom left corner in the iPhoto window). You might see a bunch of randomly numbered film rolls, if you've never edited their names before. Probably a seperate roll for each time photos were imported into your library. If you just see roll names without thumbnails, then click on the triangles to open them. When you select the name of the roll you can then edit the info for the whole roll: name, date, and comments. You can select photos and move them between rolls to reorganize. Select a roll's name and drag the whole thing into another roll to consolidate rolls. You can select photos and go to File > Create Film Roll to make a new roll for them. If your wife imports photos she took at a birthday party and on vacation, you can name the roll "Birthday Party", then select all the vacation photos and create film roll which you name "Vacation." Thus you will have 2 rolls, where the photos are easy to find.
Keeping you library in Film Roll view has several benefits. First, iPhoto uses your roll names when it places files in its file structure. While (as you know) it is not recommended to manipulate pictures via their files in the Finder, if your rolls are well-organized and descriptively named you will know where those files are being stored. Second, Film Rolls may be kept closed in the library. Keeping the rolls closed until they are needed is an effective way of maintaining the optimal speed of iPhoto. If I kept all my rolls open it would take me many minutes just to launch iPhoto, and scrolling through nearly 5000 thumbnails would be quite a challenge. When a roll is closed any comments you've made about it are visible below the roll's name. I use comments so I know which roll to open to locate a particular photo.
There are many ways to keep your library organized. Start playing around with it and see how it goes. I'm sure others here will add their different styles and great ideas. Let us know how it goes.

  • Help moving iPhoto 6 Film Rolls to iPhoto 11

    Hi,
So I'm trying to get my new MacBookPro up and running with all my previous iPhoto images. However it's not so simple as I would have hoped... my scenario is as follows:
I have an old MacBookPro (6years old) running iPhoto6 with all my existing photos organised in Film Rolls.
I have a new MacBookPro running iPhoto11, which I would like to move all my photos over to.
I have copied the old 'iPhoto Library' folder onto my new laptop into my Pictures folder, and then opened iPhoto. It converted the iPhoto Library to be compatible with iPhoto 11, but didn't find any new photos. After some searching, I found out that opening with cmd-option gave me a few options. I have tired 'Repair Database' option, and it then found my photos (all) but refused to import about 10k saying they were not compatible (?).
So I now have a large number of my photos in the new version of iPhoto. But I would
    (a) like to have all of them imported, and
    (b) like to have them imported in albums/rolls or some order (rather than effectively a singular large collection) given that I have about 10 years of photos and numerous rolls from various shoots.
Please can anyone help me? Is there some software that I can use to import the photos from an iPhoto 6 Library into iPhoto 11? I am dismayed that Apple appear to have left me in a complete and utter mess with this!
I simply want to be able to view my photos in iPhoto 11 in an ordered fashion, based on the order I had created in iPhoto 6 using Film Rolls.
    Thanks,
    Robert

    Try this:
1 - copy the iPhoto Library from the old MBP again and place in the Pictures frolder.
2 - download and apply the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.0.
3 - launch iPhoto 11, select the library and let it update it again.

  • My MacBook pro mid 2012 doesn't seem to have a "save as" function, so I can't seem to save multiple page pdf's together after moving thumbnails into the sidebar. It only saves the first page. I can't figure out the rename function either. Help?

My MacBook pro mid 2012 doesn't seem to have a "save as" function, so I can't seem to save multiple page pdf's together after moving thumbnails into the sidebar. It only saves the first page.
I do have a 2008 version of Microsoft Office installed to save money, but that shouldn't affect things. I can't figure out the "rename" function either. Help?

Oh, and I also reset my NVRAM, my computer hasn't frozen again yet, so I'm not sure if it has made a difference.

  • My MacBook pro is freezing at the "moving items into place" phase. I have to restore from time machine each time. I'm talking about the 10.7.4 update

I can't seem to get the 10.7.4 update to work. It constantly freezing at the "moving items into place" phase. I let it run overnight and it's still frozen. I have to restore from time machine backup each time. Any help appreciated.

this is somethinng like the third post i have read about that update causing troubles...
But if I read this right- it is still in the install? Had you restarted and repaired permissions BEFORE the download? As well as emptying cache in safari first?
The other troubles I read had to do with after install, and caused by...oh what was it...it was early morning...an article at CNET news had it...google 10.7.4 update trouble and read the cnet one.

  • How to Troubleshoot why data is not moving over into the Data Warehouse after Sql Server Agent Job Run

    Hello,
    Here is my problem:
Data was imported into the staging area. After resolving some errors and running the job, I got the data to move over to the next area. From there, data should be moving over into the DW.  I have been troubleshooting for hours and cannot reslove this
issue. I have restarted the sql service services, I have ran a couple packages manually, and the job is running successfully.
What are some reasons why data is not getting into the data warehouse? Where should I be looking?
    Your help is greatly appreciated!!

    Anything is possible.
So, just to reiterate, running the job manually works, running the scheduled job does not result in errors neither data arriving to the DW, right? And it used to, correct?
If so, the 1st step would be to examine the configuration(s). But not before you inspect the package. Do you have an ability to export it to a file system and open in BIDS?

  • Move System Preferences Help file back into System Preferences folder?

How do I move System Preferences Help file back into System Preferences folder.  I unintentionally moved it.  My Mac blocks putting it back.  Suggestions?  Thanks!

Somehow I managed to delete my System Preferences shortly after upgrading, and was able to use the 10.4 one for a while until I applied the patch. Luckily, I already had Pacifist, and with your directions I was able to get close enough so that I could find the Applications folder within the ContentsofEssentialsSystemSoftwareGroup > ContentsofEssentials.pkg > Applications > SystemPreferences.app.
For that, I owe you the deepest gratitude and a gigantic THANK YOU. My System Preferences is now fully reinstalled and working wonderfully.
Pacifist might actually be worth purchasing.

  • Moving pictures in film rolls

Has anybody figured out how to slow down the scrolling when moving pictures from one roll to another? I keep whizzing by the roll I want.

This happens to me, too. I participated in a thread about this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3075268&#3075268
although nothing has really corrected the problem for me. And while I have the utmost respect for Terence Devlin, who is probably correct 99.9% of the time, I'm still not totally convinced that this is a mouse problem. [Sorry, TD.] I just don't see it in other contexts, (not even in Finder) but it happens consistently in iPhoto, and only when trying to drag selected items.
That being said, I have learned to live with and work around it. When moving pictures between rolls, I must keep all rolls closed except the one I select photos from. If the target roll is on screen with the beginning roll, there's no problem. If not, I may have to drop the photos in the closest roll to the target that I can manage. Like iPhoto leapfrog. Say I'm scrolling up. I may drop the photos into the highest roll on screen before iPhoto begins to hyper scroll. Then scroll the window to move that roll down, and drag them a second time upwards. Eventually the roll I'm in and the target roll will share the screen, and I can finish the job.
I'll be watching with interest to see if you find a solution. [Now TD will come correct me. That's okay, I'm used to it. And like I said, he's usually right. So he's probably right. Try anything he suggests and let us know if it works. :-)]

  • Can anyone help with iPad problem- Camera roll?

When I take a photo on my iphone, the photo goes into my photo stream and appears on my shared mac camera roll but does not appear on my ipad camera roll. However the photo does appear when you click from albums to photos. Not sure what has happened it use to go into camera roll all other devises ie iphone, ipad and mac laptop. I have gone into setting and all is ticked correclty. Can someone help please.

In many ways, I don't think IOS 7 improved the experience with Photo app but it is what it is.  I shoot both with my Iphone and with a camera using an SD card and upload with the CC to the Ipad, so i have two different issues with Camera roll.
By experimentation I have found that a jpeg file MUST be in Camera Roll on the Ipad to be considered 'saved' and backed up in Icloud.  Photostream will bring your jpeg photo from the Iphone to the Ipad but it is NOT YET in your camera roll.  To have that done, by simply putting it in an album it is placed in Camera Roll.  That's the simple thing to do.  If you process it in a 3rd party app like Snapseed it will save back to your Camera Roll, so doing either of these two things places that file in Camera Roll, but no where do you get this information unfortunately.
For those using an SD card to import a RAW file, you need to process in a third party app, save to photo app--generally the default is as jpeg, and it will appear in the Camera Roll.   I don't shoot with my camera in jpegs so can't describe that but I'm rather assuming that if you select the file, save to an album, that it will appear in the Camera Roll.  A word to the wise--if you are importing raw files to the Ipad and processing them you will end up with two photos in the "photos", the raw and the jpeg.  To cut down on storage, delete the raw which is the one to the right of the processed jpeg file.  I do wish Photoapp would give us some EXIF data on shots but if it isn't apparent which is which, I've determined (by using apps that show the EXIF)  the processed jpeg that you ordinarily wish to keep on the Ipad is always to the left of the raw, or 'first' in the photo mode
Another way to move from iphone to Ipad, especially video (which doesn't Photostream), is to use Air Drop and the file will automatically go into Camera Roll.
Hope this helps.  I've had to explain this to my husband also and show him by demoing so I've been down this path before LOL.

  • How to insert pic into email response?

Looks like I can easily insert a pic into a freshly composed email, but I can't find a link to do the same for a response? Can this be done, if so, how? Thanks in advance fir any responses.

If your picture is held 'elsewhere' then inserting the URL is all that's needed....
MobileMe helps as an option too because you can then have access to a space that is effectively shared with another machine (Mac/PC) that is accessible to others over the Internet using the same URLs (which may also be password-protected).

  • ITunes Install stuck on "Moving Items Into Place" for 3 days

3 days ago, I was unable to open iTunes on my Mac OSX Version 10.9.3. The error message claimed that the file was corrupt and I needed to uninstall and redownload iTunes. I started the download on May 16th in the morning. It got stuck on "moving items into place." After a few hours, I finally managed to force quit and shut down my system. Then, I tried again. It has been stuck on this screen since May 16th. Any idea why I am unable to download iTunes? HELP!

Just found this and it fixed the issue for me, hope it works for you:
    - Try booting into Safe Mode, hold down left side shift key when booting, hold untill you see the progress bar (note this will take longer than normal, so be patient)
    - Log in and open disk utilities (Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility app) then select (highlight) your volume in the left side bar, click repair permissions.
    - The run software update again and try the install while in safe mode, if sucessful log out (this will take a little longer as well) and log back normally.

  • Why can't I cut/paste contact info into various contact fields?  This worked before Mt Loin.

Before Mt Loin I could cut/paste into various fields in Contacts, ie:  phone numbers,  mailing addresses, etc. Now I am force to manual update contacts.

Sorry I should have said that we had tried other CHM files on the PCs with the same result. For instance on PCs where the paste did not activate the List Topics button, this was the behaviour on all CHMs. Likewise on the PCs where the button was activated it was the same on all PCs. So the problem is PC related.
Rick. A space after the paste does activate the button. Likewise a backspace so you are probably right. No sure this will meet the exacting standards of our test lead. If it doesn't, maybe I'll print out a copy of our largest help file in 42pt typeface and beat him around the head with it. BTW I love your slight on searches. I'd better not get you started with Air Help then .

  • How to get iPhone 4s Videos back into Camera Roll?

I need the exact same file with no compression back into camera roll. It was a video that I recorded with my iPhone 4s and accidentally deleted after backing it up to my iMac. I don't want the file to be compressed. I want the original back into Camera Roll. I am using Mountain Lion with everything updated. Even my iPhone has the most up to date iOS.
P.S. Let me make it clear that I do not want the videos to go into the videos app. I NEED it in Camera Roll. Thank you so much for your help.

The only way to do this is to restore your phone from a backup that contains the deleted video.

  • Unable to send pic from Camera Roll via Message. The screen freezes up.

Unable to send pic from Camera Roll via Message. The screen freezes up.

Try closing the Photos app, as well as Messages by double tapping the home button, long pressing on one of these apps, then touching the minus sign above these two apps.  It will also be a good idea to restart the phone.  Then test your message again.  Hope this helps.

  • Moving photos from a roll to a NEW roll from within iphoto

Is there a way I can do this? I tend to take a few hundred photos at a time on my new Sony cam. Its got a 4 gig memory stick so I dont have to keep dumping the camera all the time. That means that I have photos from a few different events everytime I go to dump the photos to Iphoto. Iphoto just asks for one name of the roll and then procedes to import the entire roll. I just name this roll "Newest Pics" and then I want to seperate out all the pics from different events into different rolls. Is there anyway for me to do this in Iphoto?
Im thinking the alternative is to seperate the photos by hand somehow in the finder and then bring in each folder to Iphoto as its own roll. That would seem to suck though.
    Thanks!

In the Library view - and only in the Library, not when viewing an album - you can go File -> Create New Film Roll if you have at least one pic selected. This Roll can then be renamed using the info box at bottom left of the window.
