  • Probems with msi 875p neo Fis2r and network controller driver

    Hi guys just wondering if anyone could help me with my msi 875p neo FIS2R and problems with the network controller driver/network card.
    I'm running xp on a computer my nextdoor neighbour gave me. I got it working fine  with service pack 3 installed but then installed a bunch of windows updates last night and the computer would switch itself off before windows could start. Now I reinstalled xp and unfortunately it does not recognise the network controller/card at all now. I tried installing the intel network controller drivers but it stopped because it said no intel adapter/card was installed/present. Could anyone please help with suggestions? I tried running everest and under newtwork it doesnt list intel network adapters but I'm pretty certain it is. Again any suggestions?

  • MSI Neo-FIS2R 875P + Thermaltake Xaser3 V2000a

    Anyone have any issues when connecting the RESET connector from the Xaser3 V2000a case to the MSI Neo-FIS2R 875P Mobo? When I do the board will not even POST. Could it be a faulty plug on the case as I doubt its the Mobo?
    Btw.. only OCed the processor to 233/466 at default Vcore resulting in 3.26Ghz. Will be going much higher as well as OCed the Ram.
    Mind you.. curious why WinXP+SP1 only shows the Processor at 2.80Ghz and not the new speed (3.26Ghz)? SiSandra also shows this but when I use MSI's InfoView it shows at 3.26Ghz. Probably nothing to worry about.. just wondering..

    Hi, just helped a friend with his new Xaser case and also had a very difficult time getting it to boot. We discovered that the chasis intrusion switch wasn't fully engaging. Cleared cmos and everything worked after that. Don't know if this will help or not. Good luck, it's a great case.

  • MSI Neo-FIS2R build questions! & SATA RAID questions!

    This is going to sound like a stupid question. And I'm not even sure that I know what I am asking.
    I've built two computers so far. One with an MSI K7N2G-L and another with an MSI K7N2G-ILSR. Both nForce2 motherboards with AMD processors.
    Here's what I'm getting at... I'm planning on building a new machine with either the Abit IC7-G or the MSI Neo-FIS2R (both 875P boards obviously).
    Now, when I built the two nForce2 boards it was really easy. I put all of the components together, turned on the machine, the bios auto enabled settings, I put the windows xp pro cd in the cd drive and formatted the hard drive for NTFS, I then installed the OS and booted the system! Then I intstalled the drivers fromt the MSI CD. Ran Live BIOS and flashed to the most current motherboard BIOS. SIMPLE! Everything worked fine.
    Here's my question. For the 875P system will everything pretty much happen the same way? Or do I need to do additional things? One of my main concerns (especially if I go with the Abit IC7-G over the MSI) is flashing the bios. Do I need a floppy drive or something? I've never flashed a BIOS outside of the Live BIOS utility. I don't want to put a floppy drive in my system! What are my options here?
    Not that I want to do it, but if I needed to (say with the Abit board) HOW DO I FLASH THE BIOS WITHOUT USING THE LIVE BIOS UTILTY?
    Bottom line is, I'm building this system for someone else and I want it all to be a painless experience (especially if they are looking over my shoulder).
    One final question. This may sound even more stupid than the first question. I'm purchasing SATA drives ONLY. I'm not purchasing any IDE drives. So, here's my question...Can I boot from a SATA drive? What if it's in RAID 0? From the posts in the forums it appears that the SATA and RAID on these 875P motherboards either doesn't work or isn't very reliable (may potentially lose data). IS THIS AT ALL TRUE?! I'm stupid when it comes to RAID and SATA. Any help in this department would be appreciated.

    I have never built a raid array (as yet) and have never owned a SATA disk (as yet), but from what I have read...
    RAID is a method of connecting several disks together so they perform as a single disk.  That means, in response to your points above:
    1) If you install only one drive (SATA or not), it will not be set up as RAID.
    2) If you install two SATA drives, you have the option of using them as two individual drives OR setting them up in a RAID 0 or 1 configuration.
    3) Ok, RAID 0 is known as "striping" - this method makes two disks look like one big disk, that works twice as fast as the individual drives.  Every time the PC writes data to the drive, it sends the first bit of data to drive 1, the second to drive 2, then drive 1 again etc etc.  This speeds up the disk read/write time, as the two disks can both work simultaneously.  To the OS though, the two drives appear as one.  The OS will be spread across both disks - it needs both of them connected to run, take either disk out and you'll be left with half an OS (that obviously won't work)
    With RAID 1 (known as "mirroring"), you still use two disks.  You will only have a useable capacity of the smallest disk however (using two 40gb drives only gives you a total of 40gb of space. with RAID 0, two 40gb disks will make one big one - nearly 80gb large {I think the RAID system itself uses a bit of space}).  The advantage with mirroring, is the second disk holds an exact copy of the first.  If one disk goes bang, you have a duplicate copy on the second - so, to answer your point above, the OS will reside on both disks.
    To summarize, RAID 0 is good for increasing speed; RAID 1 is good for increasing protection of your data as you have two copies incase a drive gives up.  To get the best of both worlds you need RAID 0+1 (this method needs 4 disks though, 2 striped - then 2 mirroring the striped).
    There is a lot to RAID - just search the net for some manuals if you're interested, hope this gives you an idea though (providing I've got it right!)

  • K8T Neo-FIS2R and 2.2 bios problem

    I flashed the bios of my K8T Neo-FIS2R to version 2.2.
    Everytime I boot the system, I can just see the Windows XP logo appearing for a second, then the system reboots again.
    I reflashed from a floppy to version 2.1 again, but still the same problem.
    My HDD is a Western Digital SATA drive on the VIA controller.
    Can somebody please help me out?

    After reflashing to 2.0 I still had the same problem.
    The bios was not causing the problem. In some way, Windows couldn't load the SATA driver properly, I think.
    I removed the SATA HDD from the VIA controller and connected it to the Promise controller, and surprisingly, Windows started again.
    The HDD LED works on the Promise, but not on the VIA, so I left the HDD on the Promise controller. The LED problem is now solved as well.
    I still don't know exactly what was going on. Anyway, it wasn't MSI or the new bios, it was Microsoft...

    Was just wondering if anybody had this combination (MSI K8N Neo Platinum and G.skill Ram). I have the MSI Neo Platinum. I ordered the processor yesterday (3400 1Mb socket 754) and now I need some ram. I ran across this ram and saw that it had good timings. If anyone has this or has tried it please lemme know how it worked for you and what size sticks you got. Thanks

    looked at the links you provided
     specs seem ok nice range of speeds and can run at a nice low latency at pc3200 i.e 400mhz.
    should also enable a nice o`clock at pc 4400 specs ie 3.4.4.8 ie higher fsb etc.
    than pc 3200 ram
    you should be able to run it at fairly low latencies and fairly high fsb sort of half way between the 2.
    might well be worth a try you might have found something good there. but then again you wont know till you try it..
    contact the reseller and see if you can rma it if it wont run
    then you got some comeback if it aint compatable..
    keep us informed  

  • AMD64 3200+ & MSI Neo FIS2R. Working great after some problems!!

    Hi all... after have some troubles with my new computer, now all is working near to OK.
    (EDIT:  I've changed my sig because I've done many changes to my PC. The memory I had before was 2x512 VDATA pc3200)
    As you can see in my sig my power suply is PATHETIC (+12V ~10 amps) but the system runs fine, doing desktop work or playing new 3D games (as Far Cry, or some older as IL2 Forgotten Battles, or BF1942 + DC + Forgotten hope).
    (EDIT:The PSU I had before was one of these bad PSUs included with the case). Now I've an Antec 480W PSU
    The solution was to reduce the RAM velocity from 400Mhz to 333Mhz of my VDATA Dimms. I know it sucks, but I've changed the timings and voltage too, but It didn't work. Only reducing the RAM velocity has been the solution for the unwanted reboot. About the reboot... my PC only rebooted when I tried to play 3D games, not in desktop work. It happened some minutes after begin to play.
    No need to say I've installed all the lastest versions & fixes for OS, GPU, Mobo, Bios, etc.
    I know I'd have to change the power suply, and get new RAM to get the 400Mhz velocity. I'll change the RAM in few days (I'm looking for memory which had been tested by MSI succesfully). I'll buy a power suply later.
    Well I hope my experience serves to you. I'll post again when I get my new RAM

    Hi all... yesterday I bought a new PSU: Antec Power true (blue) 480. As you can see at my updated sig it has 22 amps. in the +12V Rail.
    I'm very sad, because the RAM problem is not solved!!!
    I've tried again diferent settings CAS, TRAS, etc. I've set 1.7V in the AGP and 2.7 in the DDR. I've tried only with 1 of the DIMMS, and changing the 2nd dimm to 3rd slot. But the only solution to get an stable system when I'm gonna play is under-clocking the memory speed to 333 MHz.
    I think now you can't say  that the problem is the PSU...
    Any ideas?
    Anyone knows where I can get some information about this VDATA memory? I've  found the website of ADATA memory. I suppose is the same memory, but there isn't info about the settings (CAS, TRAS...) you have to set in the bios to get it works fine.
    All I can say is what is written in the DIMM:

    It seems like that:
    Ammm.. other questions. I can see in MSI corecenter that VCore has 1.550 V, and its shown in red. I haven't overclocked that volts value at bios. It's set as AUTO. SiSoft Sandra tests says it's not a good value for the VCore. Is it normal?
    And Corecenter and CPU-Z says that my processors is 2000 MHz (10x200). This value never changed. I thought cool n' quiet changed the FAN speed, but I thought that it changed the CPU velocity too. What can you say about it?
    (EDIT)-> About the CPU velocity. I have seen in other thread that if I enable Cool n' quiet in bios and I set to "minimal" the power management profile in Windows XP energy options, the CPU velocity will change on application's demand (from ~800 MHz to 2000MHz). I had the CnQ enable, but not the minimal power management profile, so it was at 2000MHz and didn't change. Now it works!!
    Anyway, I thought my CPU default velocity was 2200MHz not 2000.  Anybody can say me if 2000 is the default velocity of AMD 64 3200+ (Clawhammer)?

    System has been pretty much solid since i built it back in Dec 2005, The Power supply i've had for 1-2 years, last few months i would start up my pc and then at random between 15 secs or 30 mins the pc would just shut off, and sometimes it wouldn't do it at all. I didn't really think nothing of it. About a month ago i was about to play WoW (world of warcraft) and my pc glitched out and the sound screeched and then i shut it down, i reset the comp and no post, i then reset the cmos the pc then posted and i changed my bios settings back and i was up and running again. I could run any games, half life 2, quake 4, WoW and they all ran great i still got the random shut downs if it did shut down when i restarted it , it would shut down again. (odd) Tonight i was on chatting with some friends and was about to play some counter strike then changed my mind and i started up WoW everything loaded up great, got into the game and played for about 2 mins then my screen went black and the sound screeched, the monitor had no signal and my pc was still running, so i turn the thing off and reboot, no post and no beep code. I proceeded to reset cmos and reboot still nothing i checked the D-bug thing and i was getting a processor intialize error, so i thought i fried my cpu, i took off the waterblock and pulled out the cpu cleaned it up reapplied AS5 and then re-seated the cpu, tried to boot and nothing, i then started to pull ram out and swap slots and single the sticks out and that did nothing. I then stripped my pc down to barebones reset cmos and used beap codes, with just cpu seated i got a ram error code, put in a stick of ram then i got a video card error code put in the vid card then i was back where i started, no beep code and the d-bug thing was hanging on processor initialization. It could be my cpu although in my other comp i swapped cpu, i put the enermax 431w into the other comp nf2 w/ amd 2500 barton and it posted and ran fine, although when i used the ps from the other system in the one thats not posting it would post either but it was only a 300w ps. I don't believe its the cpu, the 20pin connector on the power supply has about 4 pins where the pastic shell has browned from heat or something, so i should replace the ps regardless but i'm not positive thats whats causing my issue. Anyone with any suggestions i'll pretty much try anything at this point.

    This is not a good sign, this could be an indication of to much amp being drawed.
    This could be due to a poor connection on the P/S connector or the connector of the MB or it could be due to a device like your CPU, ram, graphic card or so on drawing to much amps.
    Check the MB for any signs of swelled, leaking or bursted caps, also look around the MB P/S connector for any resistors that have changed colors or are burnt.

    • Supports two unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 800/1066 DRAM. (Max: 4GB)
    If I put GEIL 2x2GB DDR3 1600Mhz, if it cannot work, will I destroy my mobo or memory?

    It's time to do some bios upgrade. Last time this ended in a dead MOBO when upgrading from 1.2 to 1.4 I still don't understand the reason why I didn't succeed. Only found some suggestion on this forum that the flash utility was indicating that flash was done while it took a while went the C prompt appeared.
    My system is running stable although I want to flash to obtain better performance (Mem bandwidth, MAT,...) Is it recommended to do upgrade? Could Corsair twinx512-3200ll DDR/ 2 x 256mM /400 be a problem during upgrade or after. Mem voltage to low? (=2.65v). I have a multi boot system with FAT32 partition so I can flash from hard disk in DOS mode. Any better suggestions or advice, besides the standard doc.

    I would wait for the next BIOS and some favourable results from other users of similar systems ...release Promised on or before the 27th of this month (2 days -Fingers crossed its a goodun)
    When you do Flash make sure your system is running stable and at stock or reduced speed/performance with as little else running (reduce all possible causes of error)
    I used the "by SPD" timings and set my DDR voltage to 2.7v, Flashing via the "NTFS method" (98se boot disc + copying files over to RAMDRIVE before flashing) -see readme file included with the BIOS upgrade

  • MSI NEO fis2r with promise raid and 4 SATA disks?

    I have been trying to figure this out.....
    I want to have a striping across 4 sata disks  3x250gb and
    1x120gb.
    I also want my IDE CD-ROM to work.
    I can't seem to find the right combo in the Bios on how to set it up
    and when I get the raid setup screen it only shows 2 drives not 4.
    Anyone?

    So in short i cannot have 4 SATA drives in a raid since the promise controller only supports 2...
    I should be able to put in 4 sata drives in the machine and software raiding them or make them dynamic disks.
    Well that blows! Guess I have to go out and buy a 4-port sata raid card.

  • 865PE Neo2-FIS2R and Geil memory problem

    With 512MB (2x256) of Corsair XMS 3700, the system is perfectly stable (runs 24/7 crunching for UD, also have done Prime95 torture test).
    With 1-GB (2x512) of Geil PC4000 Ultra Platinum, the system is very unstable.  It usually won't even boot fully into Windows without a BSOD (which vary) or if it does get into Windows it crashed soon thereafter.
    If I put the Corsair memory back in (like I have them right now, to be able to use the system to post this message), the system is back to 100% stable, so it seems to be entirely a memory-related problem.

    Have run MemTest standard test on the Geil modules individually and as a pair, and have tried different slots.  Testing thus far shows no errors when each module is installed separately, but when used in a pair there are sometimes errors shown.
    Have tried the modules in slots 1,3 and slots 2,4 with no difference.
    Have tried setting DDR voltage from 2.70 up to 2.85v for the Geil (approved up to 2.9v) with no apparent change in stability.
    Have tried changing Spread Spectrum setting between enabled and disabled.  Disabled seems to be better, but problem remains.
    Have tried using SPD disabled with settings listed above, and SPD enabled (which sets timings at 2.5-4-4-8,8).
    Edit: I'd asked for advice, but then realized that the very limited timeframe in which I could return the Geil would expire if I waited beyond business hours today.  So I've RMA'd the Geil and have ordered a 1-GB Corsair TwinX XMS 3700 pack instead.

    I've had similar problems to you but with Corsair TwinX LL's and if you read back a month in this forum you will see others have also with various memories on the 865 FISR.
    The fix I found was Kingston memory but others have had problems with Kingston.    There was a thread running a week or two ago attempting to document successful memory mobo combinations.
    Bottom line, stick with what works on your mobo until MSI fix the incompatability/instability issues.

  • HELP : MSI Neo Platinum - VERY unstable

    I am sorry if this has been asked, or if it some real dumb newbie question - please bear with me.
    I have just received my nice new very tasty Neo Platinum (think its the platinum - has firewire port and 4 SATA??) and lovely new AMD64 3000+ CPU - jump from my little old AMD XP 2400+
    Anyway, whenever I have changed boards in the past, I have just entered into the device manager, set all the chip branded items to standard - e.g VIA host controller to standard host controller - it is far from best way but always seems to work without any problems for me - Next time system boots, it finds all new hardware and all the standard stuff is usually automatically identified fine. Sometimes I might have to right click on something and tell it to update the driver - and it finds what it needs job done.
    I know it aint fail-safe - but it works for me

    I changed everything to standard, powered down, did my upgrades plugged it all in and powered up - system did as I expected - almost, it ran fine for about 40 minutes - I was not using it, I just turned it on, watched it update the drivers and then left it.
    I then turned machine off (about 40 mins later) and turned back on - since then I have not had a stable system at all.
    My first thoughts where this is my fault - I am not going to get away with such a half ass upgrade this time - but the system is extremely unstable - and some times long before it gets to windows.
    For example - a few moments ago I spent about 10 minutes trying to get into the BIOS - I got the splash screen, I pressed DEL to enter BIOS and system restarted.
    I really don't think it is the way I am preforming the update I think there is a problem somewhere - but not sure were - any tips?
    The one area I am pretty unsure of is the power supply - going by some  of the stuff I have read at this site - I think it may be this.

    If this is not high enough (why?) would it explain why the system keeps crashing - oh and when I say crashing I mean it just turns off and imediately tries to power back up - sometimes it gets stuck in a loop, and I just have to turn it off completely.
    If the power supply is the cause, then why can I get all the way into Windows some times and it gladly works for a max of about 10-15 mins before powering down again - yet other times it can not even get passed the POST?
    Oh when I can get into Windows - If I look at the event viewer there are no messages - so I definately don't think it is a problem with my hardware - except the power supply.
    in fact as I am writing this I am going more and more for the power supply been the cause - no errors in the event viewer - you see that if the system just lost power - eg power cut.
    If it is the power supply the ratings where not given before I purchased the item from ebuyer - are they at fault - e.g. will I get my money back - does any one know?
    AND if what I have read is true - this CPU needs a PSU that can supply 25a+ on the 12vg rail - where would I get one of them - I looked around and I can not see a PSU with that sort of spec - well in the budget end of the market??

    I read the suggestions and went down to a computer store in Bristol earlier today.
    I purchased a hyper..... (can't remember name and currently not at home - this one is AMD 64 approved.
    The 12v rail says maximum 26a so I would expect my problems to have cleared up...
    BUT NO.
    It booted into Windows and appeared to be stable at first, Windows told me it had detected the Nvidia ata controller or something like that -  have got this far countless times before - but the computer would usually restart before it had chance to update the drivers - this time it seemed to work.
    It found new hardware and I let it search for the best driver, it didn't seem to be able to find it on the disc that came with the MOBO?? and asked me for the location, I went through the disc, found the file it wanted - it then continued trying to install the drivers before telling me that there was an error instaling the driver, it does not support my processor.  A little odd.
    then the system powered down again, it rebooted all the way to Windows and was fine again for about 10 r so minutes and again it restarted.
    Maybe its my upgrade method, but I definately think that power is no longer the problem - I wonder ifI have a dodgy board?
    So far I have tried the RAM in different slots, a different stick of RAM, a different Graphics card, with my fans and ALL USB devices disconnected - I have 2 optical drives so I have tried disconnecting one, and then disconnecting the other - but always keeping one connected - I am getting no further. - Oh and I have obviously changed to a more expensive apparently AMD approved PSU
    Do I have a duff board or CPU I am wondering - I can't test either seperately as I don't know anyone else with a 754 processor or board.
    purchased through the internet so reluctant to send both items back for them to test as ebuyer take about 2 weeks to test things you send bac and they charge you if they are working - nice of um.
    A couple more things I could test - let me know if you think either of these could be the problem:
    Gonna pop home and change the SATA drive for an old IDE drive and atempt a fresh install of windows maybe SATA drive is telling system to do something it doesn't want to do??
    I have a clear case, the case has fairly big mobo standoffs, enough for me to channel my IDE cables under the board for a tidier looking system - I have my 2 opticals on seperate channels but both ide cables run under the CPU - is there any chance that interference could cause random problems like this? - I don't think so my self - and if so I would expect to see at least a BSOD.??
    otherwise unless any of you helpful people have any other suggestions I think I am gonna have to pay for both items to go back.

    PPS: tried HDD connected to SATA 1 and 3 - no effect

  • K8T Neo FIS2R and DDR400

    I'm looking to buy a K8T Neo2 FIS2R soon and I'm wondering what DDR400 to get for it. I'm looking at 2 sticks of 512Mb either Crucial or Kingmax, and I would like to know if anyone has used either of these sucessfully with this board.
    The part munber of the Crucial is CT6464Z40B.

    Any experience of either of these modules would be helpful.
