Help, Multiple Time Capsule shared disks created??!!

This won't make too much sense but envision a Finder window with the left hand side showing all the SHARED disks/computer such as the other computers on my local network and including the Time Capsule. When I first started using the TC, it showed up just fine with its pretty TC icon. That still shows up. But about a month ago, there was a bad storm, TC freaked out. The old icon for the TC is still there along with it's original name - "Time Capsule" (original, I know). But I cannot connect to it. However, a new shared disk appeared named "Time Capsule(2)" which I could connect to normally. Then last week my surge protector freaked out and not that one is a no go but a third was created "Time Capsule(3)" which I can connect to. NOTE: the subsequent shared disks have a "cinema display" type icon and not the cute TC icon.
Ok, here is what I want to know: how can remove the "dead" Time Capsule, make sure the working Time Capsule has the cute icon, and understand why this happened. Much appreciated.
Alex.

I would try this:
NOTE: The information (data, files, backups) stored on the Time Capsule will not be erased by this process
1. In Time Machine preferences turn off backups (if not already off)
2. Open Disk Utility
3. Enter Time Machine and then exit (only to mount backup) - in Disk Utility, Time Capsule should show in left hand window
4. Verify Disk (repair if necessary)
5. If you need all the settings from Time Capsule, enter Airport Utility>manual setup and copy down the information
6. Conduct a hard reset (erasing profiles) on the Time Capsule by pressing the reset button for more than 5 seconds immediately at power on (light should blink rapidly amber followed by a reboot)
based off these instructions:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1300
7. Restart your computer
8. Run Airport Utility to reconfigure the Time Capsule
9. Go to Finder window and connect to Time Capsule
10. If necessary per step 1: Turn on backups, select Time Capsule as backup disk & conduct backup

  • Time Capsule: Shared Disk or Time Machine Backup

    Hi
I am planning to buy a 500GB Time Capsule, but i have some doubts that maybe you could help me.
I know that Time Capsule is not just for making time machine´s backups. I know this because on apple website it indicates that works in PC and Tiger so that means that it is also a shared disk.
What i want to know is if i have to choose between a shared disk or a time machine backup. What i want to do is to assign 250Gb for time machine and the rest for a shared disk.
    Is that possible?
    Thanks

Almost certainly you will be able to use Time Capsule for both Time Machine backups as well as shared file storage. However - a couple of things to keep in mind:
    1. because Time Machine continues to back up files over time, the amount of drive space it uses will also continue to increase (potentially to the limit of the available free space).
    2. there is (unconfirmed) speculation that you may not be able to partition the drive built into Time Capsule, so that you may not be able to force an upper limit to Time Machine's usage of the drive without of course keeping close track of it yourself.

    Hi All,
I have created an interactive adobe form with Web dynpro application.
We have multiple multiple search helps (custom and standard) on the form.
when the user clicks on any search helps multiple times (4-5 times), the whole form disappears.
Please provide some solution / hints.
    Best regards,

We are not facing this problem on Adobe 9.4. The newest v10.1 has this problem.
Also, this issue is only on 1 server and on other, it works fine.
We are using Native control with ZCI layout.

Pls help my time capsule (4th gen) lost it files..I think it have a virus pls help me to fix it tnx..

    1. Ethernet .. are you using ethernet?
    2. Change the name of the TC to short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    3. In the file sharing page change the workgroup to WORKGROUP.
    4. In the same area, change the guest access to on read and write.
    5. If you setup homegroup on the PC get rid of it.. TC is not compatible with homegroup.
    6. Turn off ipv6 in the network settings for ethernet. (since you are going to be using ethernet).
From Mac version utility it looks like this.
Go to the admin tools and ensure that bonjour for windows is on.
Manually type the IP directly into windows explorer.. do not open via MyComputer.

  • PDF documents which are made OCR compatible cant be found on AirPort Time Capsule 3TB Disk

    Hi,
    HW/SW : iMAC 27 OSX Mavericks 10.9.2
    HW/SW : AirPort Time Capsule 3TB Disk Version 7.7.3
SW : Acrobat XI PRO 11.0.06
SW : ABBYY FineReader Pro 12.0.4
PDF documents which are made OCR compatible cant be found on latest TimeCapsule (folders).
I use my TC additionaly as drive to share across my Wi-Fi network.
When I save the folder on my Local MAC I search via finder/spotlight a word and the PDFs which have the words in the document show up but when I save the folder on the TimeCapsuleDisk they dont.
I use Acrobat XI PRO to make the PDF OCR capable and also  ABBYY FineReader PRO
Saved OCR'ed PDF's on local disk of my iMAC
Saved OCR'ed PDF's on AirPort Time Capsule 3TB Disk ( latest firmware etc. )
Search via finder in Folders &  "Spotlight"
PDF OCR'ed files popup on local MAC disk
PDF OCR'ed files (same folder c&p to TC) on TC disk do not popup ( clicked in search also on the specific folder but no finding )
The finder/Spotlight finds documents on TC "names" but looks like from my point of view, it does not go into the documents which are OCR capable to search for these words.
    Why ?
Any possebility to solve this ?
    Thanks and best regards,

  • Is it possible to browse a Snow Leopard back-up on a Time Capsule shared with a Lion backup using the Lion-only machine?

My 2006 Macbook died but was backed up to my Time Capusle. This machine was running the most uptodate version of Snow Leopard at the time.
I've read that I should be able to access this backup using a different Mac but I can't see it when I CTRL-click the Time Machine icon (in the dock), when using my Macbook running Lion 10.7.1.  It only shows me the current backup for this machine.
I know the old backup must be there somewhere as the Time Capsule is almost completely full (700 gb of the 1tb was dedicated to the old MA

If you control-click on the Time Machine icon and select "Browse Other Time Machine Disks" but don't see the other backups, try this: Look in the "sidebar" of a Finder window for your Time Capsule.  If you see it, select it, then look for the Time Capsule's disk (probably called "Data" if you didn't rename it).  Double-click that to mount it.  Now try again to control-click on the Time Machine Dock icon.

  • MacBook shows up multiple times under 'Shared' in finder

My MacBook keeps showing up multiple times under 'Shared' in the Finder sidebar. All sharing services are turned of in System Preferences. The number in the computer name is automatically added. When I change the computer name to another name, all existing 'ghost computers' stay there in the sidebar.  How do I get rid of these?

Known bug. Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Some people have managed to stop this behavior by going to System Preferences/Sharing and stopping all sharing except screen sharing.

  • Time Capsule "backup disk could not be found"

I occaisonally receive an error message on my Macbook Pro and iMac, both running OS 10.8 that my time capsule "backup disk could not be found."  I can access the Time Capsule with Airport Utility, can see my backups in Time Capsule-it just won't back up.  It doesn't matter whether I am connected via wifi or ethernet cable.  I have had to basically disconnect and then go through a complete backup when this happens, which kind of makes Time Capsule useless for a real backup plan  Any suggestions?

I recently came accross an instruction to reduce the number of characters in the Time Capusle backup disk name.  After a year of having to restart my Tiem Capsule to get my MacBook Pro to backup, it now seems to do so consistently.

How can I delete everything from my Time Capsule?  Disk Utility only gives me the choices of First Aid and Restore.

How can I delete everything from my Time Capsule?
Disk Utility would be used for an internal hard drive on your Mac, or for a drive that was attached directly using USB or FireWire.
The Time Capsule is a network drive. Disk Utility cannot be used for this type of drive.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utiltiies > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
    Click the Disks icon
Click the Disks tab below the icon
    Click Erase
The "Quick Erase" option will only take a minute or so. This would be fine if you plan to keep the Time Capsule yourself.
If you plan to sell the Time Capsule, you would want to use a more secure erase, like "Zero Out", which will likely take 4-6 hours or so since everything on the drive will be replaced with zeros.

  • Time Capsule - Sharing a USB hard disk over network

    Hello,
I've been trying to get a definite answer to this issue on this forum and others, but couldn't. Sorry if it was already answered and if my thorough search wasn't enough.
I have a Time Capsule and I wish to add an external hard drive to my setup. Since I want the HD to be shared on the network and be accessible through my wifi setup at home, I want to add it on the USB port on the Time Capsule and then make it a shared HD over the network.
Seems that if this is a stroll in the park with the Airport Extreme base, it's not that straightforward with Time Capsule.
All the articles I could find were about adding a HD backup to the TC, but it's not what I'm looking for. I really wish to simply add a HD through the USB port and allow the network users to access it (don't need it to be backed up on the TC !).
My network has an Airport Express as an extender and I have to point out that the TC is not really acting as a router as the place I live in has direct connection to a central router through a RJ45 wall plug.
Any ideas, walkthroughs ? (or any good ideas for a not expensive WLAN RAID solution ?)
Thank you so much for any help you could provide me.
    Cheers

    To expand on "Glasses" comments:
*Attached Another Hard Disk to the TC But How Do I Access It?*
    Open a Finder window
Select the Time Capsule in the Sidebar on the left.
Click "Connect As..." in the upper right of the window.
Enter the Name of your Time Capsule & its' password (Note: NOT your own Username & password).
Check "Remember password in my Keychain."
You should now see a blue share folder with the name of your Time Capsule.
Other hard disk attached to the Time Capsule’s USB port will also appear here as blue share folders as well. To mount them on your desktop double-clicking their blue folders. If you had a separate password setup for those disks in Airport Utility then enter that password if asked. Otherwise, it should now mount on your desktop.
Let us know if this solves your issue.
    Cheers!

  • Time Capsule - "Backup disk image could not be created"

Trying to set up time machine and consistently getting this error message. I can login in to the device and see the drive and space quantity with the airport utility. Airport wireless network is working fine - just can't get past this error message when I initiate the time machine backup process. Ideas? mike

    Mike,
"The Backup Disk Image Could Not Be Created"
Here are a couple possible reasons for the error message, “The Backup Disk Image Could Not Be Created”:
    *Missing Computer Name*
First you might be missing a computer name in the Sharing Preference pane. Go into System Prefs. Then Sharing. In the box labeled “Computer Name” is it empty? If it is blank, you need to put in a name for your computer. Otherwise Time Machine won’t be able to link this Mac with the previous backups.
    *Reselect Time Machine Backup*
Next, the link to the network drive “Backup” has been lost. Go into System Preferences --> Time Machine --> “Change Disk…” and select the the backup drive again from the list of available volumes. Do this:
Go to System Preferences --> Time Machine.
    Click the "Change Disk..." button.
Select "None" and click "Stop Backing Up".
Now click "Choose Backup Disk" and reselect your drive again.
Close System Preferences and try backing-up again.
Let us know if any of the above resolved your issue.
    Cheers!

  • Help using multiple Time Capsules

I'm new to the Time Capsule and it's features, but my sister had one, then two and now three - all purchased to be dedicated to three different computers.  She had to purchase more then one because she needed more capacity than one would hold.  She is also taking advantage of the ability of the Time Capsule to extend and make her wi-fi around her house stronger. She is now having issues with the Time Capsules completing backups.  Is it complicated to do the task of telling each of the wireless backup disks to only address one of the computers on the wi-fi network?  My backup system is old-school: a external hard drive plugged into my computer, so the setup is simple.  The Time Capsule that I've been trying to figure out is a Time Capsule 802.11n (1st Gen) and she's got an iMac that she wants to dedicate to it.  I've been reading the manual for it but I'm still not completely clear on many details.
This may take a call to Apple Support, but I thought I try here first and get any feedback or suggestions...

Yes, absolutely.  Everything in their entire house is on the wi-fi...all computers for internet, their two iPhones to impove their usage as cell service is a bit dicey, the laptop which is used at the front of the house which isn't connect to anything esxcept the charger when needed and of course the three Time Capsules and an additional AirPort they installed in one area because the wi-fi was poor...all wireless.  The only exception is the computer I have been trying to troubleshoot.  On that only computer the Time Capsule has been plugged into the iMac via a Cat-5 to do backups which I'm unclear why.  I'm pretty certain that Time Capsule was one of the first ones.  The third one installed in the front of the house has significatly larger capacity and they love the improvement of the wi-fi by it.
Any feedback on the issues and complexity of this setup would be appreciated.  As I said previously - I haven't been exposed to this particular Apple product, how it works exactly and the details, etc.  There's a lot going on in the setup so I expect there are elements which are completely new to me.

  • Need help understanding Time Capsule file structure and how to get it back

I have the original Time Capsule on which I backup both my Mac Pro and my wife’s Macbook. When Snow Leopard came out, I successfully used the ‘Restore from Time Machine’ feature on my Mac Pro so I know it has worked. However, my wife’s MacBook harddrive died the other day and I was trying to do the ‘Restore from Time Machine’ and all it would find was a backup from April (when I put her in a new larger drive). Time Machine would not find any backup files newer that April. She stated that she had seen the the Time Machine backup notices regularly and as recent as the day the haddrive died (Nov. 23) so I figured that I should have no problem. Here is what I have found in my trouble shooting and what leads to my questions below.
This is the file structure I found: (note that our ID’s are ‘Denise’ and ‘John’)
*Time Capsule* (the drive as listed in my Finder window sidebar under ‘shared’)
    >Folder called ‘Time Capsule’ (when logged in as either ‘Denise’ or ‘John’)
    >>Denise Sparsebundle
    >>>Backup of Denise’s iBook (mounted image)
    >>>>Folder called ‘Backups.backupdb’
    >>>>>Folder called ‘Denise’s iBook
    >>>>>>Single folder with old April backup (not the right files)
    >>John Sparsebundle
    >>>Backup of John’s Mac Pro (mounted image)
    >>>>Folder called ‘Backups.backupdb’
    >>>>>Folder called ‘John’s Mac Pro’
    >>>>>>Folders containing all my backup files
    >Folder Called ‘Denise’ (if logged as ‘Denise’)
    >>Denise’s Sparsebundle (a disk image)
    >>>Backup of Denise iBook (the mounted image. Name from old machine)
    >>>>Backups.Backupdb
    >>>>>Denise’s iBook (Contains the backup I need)
    >Folder Called ‘John’ (if logged in as ‘John’)
    >> (empty)
For some reason, my wife’s backup files are stored within a folder located at the top level of the Time Capsule drive called ‘Denise’, however, mine are within a folder called ‘Time Capsule’ which is at the same level as the ‘Denise’ folder.
For some reason, when trying to use Time Machine to recover, it bypasses the top level ‘Denise’ folder which contains the correct files and goes into the ‘Time Capsule’ folder and finds the outdated backup files.
I would assume that both my backup files and my wife’s should be at the same level of the Time Capsule.
I was eventually able to use Migration Assistant to recover the files after installing a fresh OS and mounting the correct Sparsebundle image.
So, my question, how do I get this fixed so that if I have to recover a drive with Time Capsule, it will find the correct files.
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any help.

What I was trying to determine is why different backups for one particular machine are located at different file structure levels on my Time Capsule and why the most resent one for that machine is at a different level that for my other machine. well John, first can you clarify if you are on 10.4.8 as your profile suggests ? if so, i'm wondering how you can use TM at all because TM was introduced with Leo. if you're not on 10.4.8, please update your profile. if you could, please also indicate details of your machine such as available RAM, processor, etc.
second, what OS is your wife's machine running ?
third, i frankly don't know too much about TM's file structure or if there indeed is such a thing as the correct one. however, i do know that it is best to leave TM to do its thing (as long as it's working). FWIW, though off-topic, you may want to have a look at this read for further information.
last but not least, i see TM backups to my TC only as a part of my backup strategy. the backbone of my strategy is to create bootable clone of my startup disk(s) using e.g. Carbon Copy Cloner on a regular basis. while TM is capable of doing a full system restore, i don't trust it as much as a working clone. i use TM to retrieve a file i accidentally trashed a week ago but you cannot boot from a TM backup if your startup disk goes belly up.
If I have missed this information in either the FAQs or the Troubleshooting article, I would greatly appreciate being pointed to it .
i expect you didn't miss anything and i'm sorry you didn't find any help there. perhaps if Pondini (author of the FAQ and troubleshooting user tips) reads this thread, you will get the necessary advice on the file structure and more besides.
    good luck to you !

  • How to access Time Capsule 2013 disk from Windows 7

I have seen several (older) threads that suggest that you can access the Time Capsule disk from Windows 7 using Windows Explorer and navigating to \\Time-Capsule-Name.  However, I have tried this repeatedly and just cannot get it to work.
Could this be a bug or unsupported in the latest 2013 Time Capsule?
In Airport Utility, under Disks > File Sharing, I have Enable File Sharing checked.  The workgroup is WORKGROUP.
The IP address is 192.168.1.4.  I am able to ping it successfully; I just cannot access it through Windows Explorer.
Am I missing something?  Please help!

Are you running homegroup on the PC..??
That should definitely be turned off!!
    Homegroup can mess things up.
I would try with ipv6 off but that might make no difference at all.. leave it set to local-link if it doesn't do anything.
There was issues when the Gen4 came out with security. Windows uses too high an encryption level..
    See info here.
    http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/changing-file-encryption-settings-on-a-win dows-7-h.pageCd-storyboard,pageNum-5.html
Change to 40 or 56 bit encyrption.
Unfortunately some of the controls you think you are setting on the TC are not really being set at all.. eg I doubt you are actually changing the workgroup.. if possible though you should have disk access set to lowest level .. device password and you should also turn on guest account to read and write.. that usually solved access for me in earlier TC .. I haven't bought an AC for the moment.. because.. well I believe I have done my time on the war front. I bled out already on the bleeding edge.. time for you to do it and I can reap the benefits on the second hardware revision and about the 10th firmware update.
Other things I would try if the above don't work.
Factory reset and start over.. you moved the IP of the TC and that is unwise.
Do not worry about the various settings.. do the factory reset.. in full isolation from the internet. ie TC plugged into the windows computer. Nothing else in either..
Now try at the default IP of the TC..
    \\10.0.1.1
Beyond that you need another computer to try or some device. iOS would be fine... in normal situation you would test other protocols, eg ftp but TC offers only SMB and AFP.. there are no AFP clients for windows that I have heard of.. you might have success if you boot the PC from a linux live cd.. it should be able to read AFP even if it cannot write to it. But the SMB is more important. If linux can access with SMB protocol and windows cannot.. the issue is windws OS.
Or iOS devices have some AFP file browsers available but again just test with SMB.. most file browsers for iOS use SMB.. if other devices can manage SMB protocol to open files on the TC then the finger points very clearly to the PC as the trouble.. on the other hand if nothing can access SMB then the TC is faulty and should be replaced.
