Help! My 300 dpi images are printing low quality!

I've purchased print-ready images (300 dpi) from an extremely well-known stockphoto website to use in a brochure I'm creating. On the brochure cover (which is 8.5" x 5.5"), I have placed 14 of these print-ready images. (FYI-all of these print-ready images are pictures of people smiling while doing various activities.)
As you can imagine, I have had to reduce the scale of each of these print-ready images to approximately 1" x 0.7" to fit on the page. The layout itself looks really nice, but when I attempt to create a .pdf using the "Print Booklet" option, all of my images look horrible! I've also attempted to create a .pdf using the "Export" function and selecting "Press Quality" and my images are slightly better, but still look horrible!
I have also re-scaled the images in Photoshop (leaving them at 300 dpi) and created a .tiff file, but no matter what I do (and I've been wrestling with this single problem for DAYS), I can't get these images to actually appear clearly on a printed page. When I forwarded my brochure (in .indd, .pdf, and .eps formats) to a professional printing company, they came back to me telling me to use print-ready images.
I've been working with print-ready images for well over a year and have sent multiple jobs to professional printers and this is the first time I've ever had a problem with images looking like they aren't print-ready. Could it be that you can only reduce the size of an image so much? Has anybody had this problem before???

Thanks for the comments thus far! I forgot to mention that all of my images are .jpegs (300dpi).
I've reviewed my "Print Booklet" settings and under my "Images- Send Data," I have "All" selected as opposed to "Optimized Subsampling." My Effective Resolution is also set at 300 dpi.
I'm still working, and am open to more suggestions.

Help!!! Images are blurry/low-res in InDesign files I sent - re-linking is not working or we're doing it wrong :(

So I am transferring all of my InDesign files over to my boss because I am leaving my job, but all of the photos placed in the layouts I've created show up blurry when he opens the files on his own computer. We've tried relinking the files, even! We may be doing it wrong, so first of all, could I get a detailed step-by-step to relinking files? Secondly, if that doesn't work, what else would you suggest?
Info that may or may not help: I have a PC, he has a Mac, we used Google Drive to share the files, and I've already tried packaging the files.

Is it now the appearance in ID only or also PDF output? If the output is fine, it may just be the screen display settings. ID by default shows a low res screen copy. You can check on the boss' computer by selecting an image, right click and change the setting...near the bottom of the menu.
Also, in the links panel, are all the images up to date?

300 DPI images for print?

Hi All,
I'd like to create a promotional leaflet for my activity, where I want to place the picture of the discounted products I'm selling.
what is the minimum resolution I need to (professionally) print them? I understand that images found on the internet can't be used (as they are 72dpi and they would appear pixelated etc.)
I've tried to look at the websites of the companies that produce those products, but couldn't find any high resolution one.
Any suggestions (apart from asking them directly for images, that would take a lot of time?)

True, but in my opion spot 'colour' should not be supported as it it in fact not a colour specification in the first place. Typically, a spot 'colour' is represented as a name callout in the page description and the in separations process the CTP plane/imagesetter plate is rendered with whatever density is defined, but there is no concept of the colour as determined in a device independent colour model.
Colors may or may not be in cmyk.
You mean colourants, not colours. The colourants will be as in the file placed into Pages, or as defined the (limited) colourant controls in Pages. The colours will be as defined in the ICC source colour space embedded in files placed into Pages, and if none is embedded then as assigned by the system level service for the placed colourant model.
tests showed too much ink being laid down
The ink limiting is independent of system level services and is solely dependent on the TRCs and LUTs in the ICC destination colour space either embedded as PDF/X-3 OutputIntent or selected in the driver-level interface. The ink limiting that is part and parcel of the ICC PRTR Printer profile has asymmetric ink limiting internally (e.g. a higher ink limit for Relative Colourimetric than for Perceptual or Saturation) or if the driver is set up to use the wrong ICC PRTR Printer profile as in using a profile with a high ink limit for a coated substrate when in fact an uncoated substrate that should have a low ink limit is loaded into the printing system.
If you use the big commercial applications like Quark XPress and Adobe's Creative Suite they do not use Apple's print engine and completely bypass the issue.
Precisely the same problems with ink limiting will occur in Adobe InDesign (any version) and QuarkXPress (any version) if the user selects the incorrect ICC PRTR Printer profile for the current configuration of the printing system, or if the user selects a correct ICC PRTR Printer profile that internally has a problem such as asymmetric ink limiting even if it should have symmetric ink limiting across the internal tables.
Otherwise, it is correct that Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress have commands to control transparency flattening for PDF/X-3 such that spline illustration, spline composition, and pixel photography can be interactively processed. The system level service in Apple Mac OS X is a meat cleaver and not a surgeon's scalpel, but in the midterm and longterm transparency flattening should be transferred from the designer to the RIP operator who is the one who controls the configuration of the rasterisation rendering. However, the RIP developers will then compete as to the 'application intelligence' for transparency flattening, and since they will do it differently there will for the indefinite future always be an option to control flattening as well at the designer's desk as at the RIP, with complications consequent on either scenario.

PDF does not display 300 dpi images in Safari only

I have a dynamically generated PDF that contains a 300 dpi image. The image added can be one of several that the user selects. On all other browsers the pdf renders fine. On Safari only, seemingly in all modern flavors of OSx and Safari, the images begin to print and then stops printing the actual image and grey is printed in the remaining space the image would take up. To make it more fun one of the images renders fine. It is the 3rd smallest image and the 2 smaller ones do not render so it does not seem to be size related. Hoping someone here has seen this before.

It prints as it views, as a corrupt jpeg. I also dug into console and it confirmed there was an error about a corrupt jpg. The most interesting thing is if I open the bad pdf in Photoshop the whole image is there with no signs of corruption. This leads me to believe it's something with how OSx and/or Safari are rendering the jpgs. Another curious sidenote, Safari on Windows works fine but if you save the pdf, move it to a mac and open it, you get the corrupted jpg again.
I think I'm going to try and stop swimming upstream now. At the end of the day I don't care if the images are pngs, tiffs, or eps. I'm going to try feeding a few different formats and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

How can you save keynote slides as high resolution (300 dpi) images?

Apparently there is a way to save powerpoint slides as 300 dpi images, with some finagling, but not the mac version. Does anyone know how to do this in keynote? Or is there a relativley easy way to do it with free/cheap software? I can increase the dpi in photoshop, but it doesn't produce crisp images for obvious reasons.

You are using the wrong terminology to describe creating an image file
- dpi ( meaning dots per inch ) is the measurement used in printing to create the number of print dots per inch that will be deposited on to physical media like paper or film   This is done in the printer settings box of the print driver and is dependant on how the individual printer can print..
ppi ( meaning pixels per inch ) is the measurement you need to use when creating the number of pixels in a digital image file. You establish image resolution in Keynote using the inspector;
Keynote > inspector > document > slide size
I can increase the dpi in photoshop, but it doesn't produce crisp images for obvious reasons.
You can resample images in editing applications such as Photoshop or Painter but what you are doing is adding non image information to the image to increase pixel count, this is called noise. As you state this is not the procedure to use in your situation.

How to generate 300 DPI image from canvas using Imagesnapshot

I tried using bitmapdata and imagesnapshot.
Bitmapdata has no property called DPI.
Imagesnapshot allows to set DPI but it is not generating 300 dpi image.
Any idea?

Resizing Multiple Images to a lower quality of image in photoshop CS3

Hi there,
I want to re size a lot of images to a lower quality. Is there a way of doing this process without having to open each individual file time after time. All the images are different sizes. I just want to lower the size of the file for putting in a pdf catalogue.
I'm sure there is a way of doing this and I probably have been shown before but I have completely forgotten.
I would appreciate any help or advice please. I'm using CS3.

Hi Ben,
I usualy crate an Action. This is what you do:
Place all your files into one directory, and create another directory inside that directory called for example. resized.
1.) Open Photoshop. Create an Action. New Action
2.) Than open one image from the directory
3.) resize it.
4.) Save it into resized
5.) Close it
6.) Switch Recording OFF for the Action.
And than you just play it over and over again. Worked for me all the time.

In simple terms, the bootldr file is the helper file to load the IOS.
The BOOTLDR environment variable specifies the Flash file system and filename that contains the boot loader image required to load system software.
The variable defines the primary Cisco IOS image that will load the final image from another source.
we need to set the BOOTLDR environment variable to specify the Flash device and filename of the boot loader image.
For Old version of IOS, there is a requirement of boot loader image to boot up the IOS image.
But for the latest version of IOS, no need for boot loader image.
Below are few things happen when the device boots:-
1. The router initially boots into ROMMON (this is your bootstrap code, which you can see in the show version command).
2. Then the router loads into the bootloader code (this is the bootloadr code, which you see in show version). This bootloader code is just an intermediate step between the ROMMON mode and the IOS mode.
3. The router then boots into the IOS mode from the bootloadr mode.
So if you do not mention the bootloadr specifically by giving the "boot bootloadr" command, the router will assume the bootloadr to be in bootflash of the device and try to boot it from there. If you mention the "boot bootloadr flash:...." command, then the router will look for the bootloadr in the flash (instead of the bootflash). Thats the only difference.
However, in both cases, if you have a valid IOS to boot into, then the router will come up without a problem, irrespective of the fact whether bootloadr image is in bootflash or flash.

Incorrect image size and low quality file (Photoshop CC trial ver. on Macbook Pro Retina)

At first, I set 500x500 size
but in workplace, it show smaller than 500x500 (maybe 250x250?)
I check on "image > image size" it still show me 500x500 pixels
Save for web
After that, i got a 500x500 file but It resize from smaller to 500x500 , so... i got a low quality file.
what's wrong?

Pixel is not a measurement unit of length per se.
If a screen has more pixels per unit of length an image (when displayed as one image pixel per one screen pixel) would appear smaller than on a screen with lower resolution.
To make sure could you please post an image that is 500px x 500px (according to Image > Image Size) but seems to be too small to you?

Images are printing with a brown transparent overylay- help

You could have a mechanical fault. Without knowing the exact mechanics if this model, many ink printers have two sections to their print head - a black section and a colour section consisting of cyan, magenta and yellow inks. For you to be getting faded or grey prints then it can indicate the colour section is not working correctly. So see if you can perform a nozzle test to check that all colours are working correctly and if not, perform a print head clean.

300 dpi images turn fuzzy when export as interactive or screen res pdf

Hi, my print brochure is fine, sharp, linked etc. But when I try to export as interactive pdf or screen res pdf, for online purposes, my clean logos and pix turn nasty. Do I need to change them individually to 72dpi and change them to rgb (i thought the export process did this automatically)? Thanks in advance to any answers.

If you choose File > Export > Adobe PDF (Interactive), the default is 72 ppi, but you can set it to a higher value. All images will automatically be convert to RGB, with, I believe, an sRGB profile, according to Dov.

The text and image are printing much smaller then what I selected.

I sized the canvas to 8.5 and 11. I layed the pic out and used 24pt type, but when I printed it, it came out tiny and looked like 1pt type.
What did I do wrong?

On the screen it might be that when using text the image is not zoomed to 100% and hence your text might look like big on screen but small when viewed at 100% of the image. Try viewing your image once at 100% and check if your font size is apporpriate. Else increase the font size and save and view in Photo Viewer or at 100% zoom in Editor and make sure it looks fine.
Also try to print on Adobe PDF prior to actual print out to make sure it works fine.

Embedding fonts and images for printing (press quality PDF)

I have a question about a document I have produced in InDesign that needs to go to the printers. They have told me to make sure it is a print ready document with all of the fonts and images embedded. When I convert an indd document for printing 'locally', I normally just use the Adobe PDF presets and select press quality. I thought ID works its magic and does everything required to make it print ready. Is there anything else I need to do regarding fonts and images to make the PDF ready for print?

As to bleeds, the printers came back and said my pdf is okay but that yes, I need to set an extra bleed edge of minimum 3mm. Do I set this when converting to the print quality pdf or do I set this whilst working in the actual INDD document itself?
Is the bleed then on every page regardless of the content?
What are the steps for setting bleed and crop marks. Does that mean when I place an image for example on a page the image needs to hang slightly off the edges by 3mm or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Still images have very low quality

When I import images into Final Cut Express they are pixelated and look very bad. When I open the same image in Preview the image is displayed at full quality. How can I fix this? I am running Final Cut Express 2.0.3.
