HELP! My Audigy 2 does NOT decode AC

Greetings everyone!
I'm having a really big problem here that I need help with. The SBAudigy 2 sound card that came with my Dell Dimension 8400 does not seem to want to decode the Dolby Digital AC-3 audio on my DVD movies. Cyberlink's PowerDVD DX 5. that shipped with the system obviously doesn't do it as it's just a basic version of the program.
I know for a fact that my speakers are set up properly because I have some 5. channel WAV files that play properly when I run them in WinAmp. Plus, I get discrete 5. surround in pretty much all the EAX enabled games I've played so far. So this is NOT a speaker issue.
Now, I've check Creative's extensi've knowledge base and what little documentation was provided with my Dell 8400 for the Audigy 2 (basically, just the Getting Started Demo). EVERY PIECE of information I have looked at clearly states that the ALL Audigy 2 sound cards are capable of decoding AC-3.
However, for some ungodly reason, mine cannot do it. I have explicitly followed the instructions on how to turn on hardware AC-3 decdoding, but for some reason, that DECODER tab wherein I'm supposed to enable AC-3 decoding doesn't exist!!! And I should point out that I HAVE all the latest drivers for my Audigy 2.
So, can anyone help me here?

The specs on OEM cards supplied by Dell can differ from the retail cards, so it's possible yours doesn't support AC-3 decoding. If you can post up the model number (and the first few digits of the serial number), I'll see if I can check this up for you.

Thanks, Cat, but I'm not up for prying open my PC at the moment. Is there a way I could check the model number without opening up the PC?
On the issue of WinDVD and PowerDVD, you have to pay for the software. Dell ships a watered down version of PowerDVD with their machines that does NOT decode AC3, thereby trying to force you to buy the upgrade to the full version 6 which, upon reading the specs on Cyberlink's website, may or may not have a software decoder for AC3 (the website seems to imply that it can get the speaker system to decode AC3).

  • HELP! Ovi suite does not display Photos only thumb...

    Hi, please help. Ovi Suite does not display Photos saved in my computer. Just getting Default grey image for everything on the thumbnails. OS XP home (Service ack 3). Run the repair and nothing. I uninstalled the application deleted everything to do with Nokia. Downloaded the application again and still the same problem. Nokia Ovi version 3.1.0.84. The only problem is that, Just shows grey thumbnails and no thumbnail photos. See screenshot attatched
    I followed this troubleshooting steps and it still the same issue!..
    Step 1
    - Go to Add/Remove in Control Panel
    - Click Ovi Suite
    - Click Repair.
    Once repair is completed then please restart computer and check.
    If Step 1 didnt work, then try the below step
    Step2
    -Go to Add/Remove in Control Panel
    - Click Ovi Suite
    - Click Uninstall
    Also uninstall the following f
    - Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    - PC connectivity Solution
    Then right click my computer, click manage.
    - Device Manager-Ports- If you find anything by name Nokia please unistall ( Dont remove anything else)
    Then reinstall windows Installer from the link provided below

    - Then restart computer.
    - Download and install Ovi Suite
    - Restart Computer again

    I guess sometimes this happens when the direct x is missing or corrupted in the system. Please download and install from the link provided below.

    I want to upgrade to latest version but -Help/About Firefox- window does not show "upgrade" as in the instructions. I cannot find an "upgrade" function anywhere else. How do I upgrade? The version I have is -18.0.1- it came with this used computer.
    I believe this computer was hacked. Word started doing very strange things. We wiped the hard drive and reloaded everything as it was originally when I bought it. I am now getting hacked online.
    They originally got into one of my credit cards last fall. That is when this all started. They got my AOL email address. They also got the credit card current balance, minimum payment, due date and then even the payment amount. They got into my Barnes & Noble account and now checkout does not work. Now I believe they have gotten into my AOL account - one thing after another has started going wrong. I cannot change that AOL user id/email address since it is the master and I would lose about 15 years of "stuff".
    The folks that sold me this computer told me to use a free version of an antivirus. I am very unhappy with it. I never had ANY trouble when I used TrendMicro's expense products. Those folks also told me to use Firefox, since AOL uses Internet Explorer - which I already knew is like Swiss cheese.
    Now, I cannot seem to get an upgrade of Firefox. Is this also a hack?
    Please help any way you can. Thank you for your time.

    It's probably just the Firefox updater having some problems. go to www.getfirefox.com and download Firefox 20.0.1

  • On certain sites, some lines have the lower half missing. Changing the font or its size does not help. The error does not appear with Iceape or Chromium.

    On some sites certain lines appear with the bottom half missing, as if obliterated. Changing the font or its size does not help. The error does not appear with Iceape or Chromium.

    I looks that the whole line doesn't fit in the container, so the bottom part is cut off. The usual cause is that a font is used that takes more vertical space, so any increase or changes from the font in what the website prescribes can cause this issue. I've seen web pages that were even affected by changing the minimum font size from none to 1 (!). If you do not have the font installed that the website specifies then Firefox will fallback to another (default) font that may have different dimensions.

    Even when i access http://machinename:50000, i get the same 'The root directory does not exist' error. I checked in visual admin, there is no other application deployed except my application.

    I created an URL iview. I created a page and added the iview to the pager. I then cretaed a role, within the role editor i created a folder(Test) and then added the page to the role. I assigned myself the role.
    Opened up a new session, Test does not exists in the navigation bar.
    How do i get it to display ?

    You must make either the role, or the folder that you've created inside of it, an entry point.
    When you are looking at your role in the editor (where you add pages, iviews etc to your role) you will see on the right hand side of the page some propeties. Select 'Show All' and then change 'Entry Point = No' to 'Entry Point = Yes'. Or you can select your folder, press the 'Properties' button, now the properties on the right hand side are for the folder inside the role, not the role. Here you can make the folder the entry point if you like.
    Everything inside an entry point is visible, whether or not it's own 'Entry Point' property is selected as 'Yes'. This means that if you make the role and 'Entry Point' everything that you add to the role will be visible.

    My computer just recently started not letting me create new folders. I do not have Google Chrome. I have Windows XP and have not had any trouble until this point in time. The New Folder option is not even listed when I right-click on the desktop and does not respond when clicked in another folder. I have Norton Security, but it might be a virus...I have no idea what it could be and why it is doing this now. I need help.

    I see that you are having an issue with the creating a new folder option on your computer. This is a weird issue but I have a couple of suggestions that could help.
    I would like you to click the start menu and type "desktop" in the search bar under all programs.  Select the program desktop and when the page opens there should be a "new folder" option at the top of the screen. Click that option and create a folder. Then go to the desktop and right click and see if you have the option to create new folders.

  • I NEED DESPERATE HELP! ADWARE THAT DOES NOT GO AWAY NO MATTER WHAT I TRY

    So I was downloading something to my computer and, of course, I got stuck with that Only Search thing and no matter what I try it DOES NOT GO AWAY. I tried turning off my extensions, I tried switching networks, I tried resetting safari. Deleting my history. Every. Single. Thing.
    And nothing works.

    There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
    You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
    Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
    From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
    Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
    Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
    Right-click or control-click the line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Repeat with each of these lines:

    Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:

    Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
    The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
    This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
    You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • ITunes 10.2.1 does not decode mp3 files properly

    I have recently posted the results of my MP3 decoder test, covering iTunes, Winamp, Windows Media Player and Foobar2000:

    The result is that iTunes 10.2.1 (Windows) fails to decode mp3 files properly. Its output does not match the other tested players, nor does it match the Fraunhofer decoder in Cool Edit Pro. I have not tested the Mac version.
    The distortion is mostly above 16 kHz.
    I am posting this here in the hopes that someone from Apple will take notice.

    I solved my problem I tried several other programs to play my music and since nothing seemed to work, i started deleting other software from my computer and apparently Uniblue's RegistryBooster was the one that caused the problem. Now able to enjoy music from my computer again

  • Clsing Firfox 4.- for Yahoo does not save tabs on close like previous versions. Your help says settings but does not tell me what setting...

    In all the previous versions of Firefox, when I close Firefox, I was asked if I wanted to save my tabs. The latest version is not allowing that option. Why not and what setting will bring this function back. I should not have to pull down the History menu and request Previous Session, I should be able to start with my previous session if I exit and not close the tabs.
    Upgrades should increase functionality and NOT completely change the look and feel of the program.

    Anyone, my iPad 3 (iOS 7), out of the blue, DOES NOT go on. I tried just about everything but open the unit up. Please, need help on this.

    What causes shutdown?  Perhaps a temperature violation (trying to use the iPad when too hot or too cold).  It's only a guess, of course.  Think about what was extraordinary about the conditions when the shutdown occurred.
