HELP!!! My Computer does not recognise my Ipod

I have a 30G 5th Generation Ipod, and it has worked great on my computer since i bought it. Today, when i plugged it into my computer, it began to charge, but the screen did not change to the "Do Not Disconnect" and the Icon did not show up in my computer or Itunes I put it into disk mode, and it still could not be read by anything..... HELP ME!!!

I actually have the same problem as the first post. I've used my iPod 5th Gen 30gb without any problems for probably close to a year. Now my iPod charges when I connect it with the USB cable but it never goes into "Do Not Disconnect" and it is not recognised in Windows or in iTunes. Because its not in iTunes there is no way to select it and restore the device. I have tried this on two different computers and used two different Apple USB to iPod cables, same result in both cases. I've gone through the 5 R's and they didn't help at all.
Anyone have any other ideas before I bite the bullet and pay Apple to try to fix it (well past warrenty).
No offense to the 2nd and 3rd posters but it sounds like you have a different issue because you were able to perform a restore of your device which would require it to be seen in iTunes.

  • Help my computer does not recognise my hard drive

    Hi All,
Yesterday I turned my computer on to find that it would not start up. I tried following advice etc about starting up in safe mode etc but no help what I have found is that he computer does not recognise the hard drive anymore so when I out the osx install disk in and run system profiler and disk utility it does not show a hard drive. I have not done anything for this to happen. Can anyone help me with this.
    Thanks.
    Paul

Instead of using older OS X CD/DVD install to a new drive.
Where is your backup and clone?
Buy some drives! that is a must.
Pick up a FW case, you will need it to put the old drive in, and later, so you have an external and off line drive for backups and maintenance.
A copy of TechTool Pro 4/5 and Disk Warrior (DW first).
    SuperDuper to clone your drives.
Demo of Prosoft Data Rescue 3 to scan the drive once you have a system and you put the 'dead' drive in FW case.
Then do backups and preventative maintenance on a very regular basis and have at least two backup sets.
If you have been doing that, and know and have read those instructions in the past....

  • HT1430 i have a red X in a circle which sometimes changes to the apple logo but no matter what instructions i try nothing else happens.  My computer nor i tunes does not recognise the ipod.

I have a red X in a circle which sometimes changes to the apple logo but nothing else happens after i try every suggestion; Windows nor itunes does not recognise the ipod; what do you suggest?

You could possibly try a restore from itunes or from the ipod itself, otherwise go get it looked at/replaced, that sounds like a software issue.

  • Itunes does not recognise the ipod after update to itunes 8.2.0.23

Hi, Now find, after putting new songs in my play list, that when I plug in ipod to update songs on ipod itunes does not recognise the ipod.
The version of iTunes I updated to was 8.2.0.23 - everything worked fine until then. I see there is a newer version 8.2.1 now available - do you think by installing this the "unable to recognise" problem would be fixed???
    Thanks for your thoughts!

I have a similar problem with the iPhone. Tried everything you can think of and then some. There is apparently some devastating bug 7.6 introduced into normal USB device recognition. I've been able to force the phone into recovery mode; the boot recovery USB driver does still work. Restoring the phone every time I need to sync is both scary and time-consuming.

I have an iPod Touch 4th gen player and cannot connect to a Sony blu-ray BDV-E970W player. Sony system does not recognise the iPod. Do I need to link the Sony to the net and upgrade the software on the dvd player?

As the other replier said, contact Sony. It may not be compatible with the iPod.

my i pad shows connect to itunes but my computer does not recognise the devise -- it was ok until i tried to do a software update

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

  • Help! ADE does not recognise my Elexon 621 eb

Can anyone help me please.  I bought an Elexon 621eb, uploaded ADE and managed to put a couple of books on to it.  The next time I plugged it in ADE did not recognise it - turned out to be a problem with the e book.  I have a new one now but ADE does not recognise it when I plug it in.  How do I get it to recognise my new EB without loosing the books I've bought?  Thanks

Sharon, here are some generic things you can do.
First, make sure that the software on your new ebook reader is up to the
latest level.  You'll have to follow the manufacturer's instructions to do
    this.
Next, make sure that you've authorized or activated the ereader with the
manufacturer, so it's live and loaded - so to speak.
Then, plug it into our computer and let the computer recognize it as a USB
device.  When the computer reports that your new hardware is ready to use,
start ADE.  ADE 'should' find the device and note that it has in the left
hand pane of the Library screen.  When it does this, then you can drag and
drop the ebooks from ADE onto the ereader.
Finally, when the downloads appear to be complete. close ADE.  Then, use
your computer software to 'eject' the ereader so that the computer drops it
from its list of active USB devices.  How you do this depends on the
software you have on your PC.
After this is done, look at the ereader screen and make sure it is updating
itself with the new content.  Once that's completed, you 'should' be able to
read the books on your ereader.
    Hope this helps!
