Help, my ex-wife washed my daughter's ipod nano

My ex-wife washed my daughter's ipod in the washing machine. I can't get it to do much of anything. when i plug it in to my computer the apple comes up, which gave me hope. then the icon with the exclamation mark comes up and then it shuts off. i am trying to charge it, but it shows to be dead.... any ideas?

eject before disconnecting
Always drag the iPod icon on the Desktop to the Recyle Bin before removing the iPod from the computer, or in iTunes menu bar click Controls / Eject (name of iPod)

When in DFU mode and connected to the computer iTunes does not say anything but iTunes will see the iPod and you can restore the iPod via iTunes. When in recovery mode and you connect, iTunes will say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

"washed-out" effect on ipod nano 5g

i'm not sure how many people have noticed this, but the ipod nano seems to have a few contrast problems with the video camera. for example, when you enter the effects menu, and select normal again, when the video fits the screen again you will see that the contrast in the video camera seems to weaken a bit. point your camera at any room with a light on, go into effects, and select normal again, and you will see that the contrast reduces when the video fits the screen. when the video fits the screen and you notice that the black colors are washed out and the color isn't as saturated, this is the problem i am talking about. however, if you choose the bulge video effect, there is no contrast loss whatsoever when the effect is selected. this contrast loss problem seems to only be occuring on the normal and motion blur video modes, so i was asking if anyone else is experiencing this same problem?

My wife has just got a iPod Nano and I have a Ipod Mini

My wife has just bought herself an iPod Nano and I have a Mini-iPod.
However she plugged in her Nano and it opened my iTunes and attempted to put on the album artwork for my albums.
I have told her to reset to factory settings but I have a question.
Do we have to install the disc again for a seperate iTunes or is there another way to register her iPod with my copy of iTunes?

If you have the latest iTunes, an easy way to create a new library is to hold down the 'alt' key whilst opening iTunes (for Macs), or hold down the 'shift' key (for Windows).
This will give you the option of either using the current iTunes library or creating a new one.
There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.

I washed my daughter's iPod by mistake

What you have to do is connect the device to YOUR computer, log in to YOUR iTunes account, and then restore the device to factory settings, and set it up as a NEW DEVICE. At this point you can change the device name. DO NOT RESTORE FROM A PRIVEOUS BACKUP!!!!!
As part of the reset, iTunes will automatically install the latest version of iOS for your device.
When the reset is finished you can sync your music and other data to the device.

This help screen makes it seem like you can just correct the problem and just "download" the lower version. But when I follow the steps, I basically get to where I'm just having to actually purchase the other version. Do I have to pay to get the lower quality version after I've already paid for the HD version?

When you purchase an HD movie or show, in most cases the SD copy can be downloaded from your purchases area in iTunes. On the main iTunes Store page, go to Purchases under the Quick Links and then select Movies or TV shows as appropraite. Click the "Not On This Computer" button. Uncheck the "Download HD when available" box and you should then see the SD copies of the movies/shows and be able to download them.
Note that with digital copies from a Blu-Ray or DVD, if it comes with an HD copy, you normally cannot get the SD copy as well and have to purchase it separately if you want it.

so i have one of the older nanos.(the one's that are either white or black and thin). So I go to plug it in and *my ipod doesn't show up on my itunes*! i'm scared because not all of my songs are backed up and I don't want to restore it! please, any help would be much appreciated.

I won't know for sure until I get home later today, but I'm afraid I may have left my iPod in my pants pocket when I washed and dried them last night. Is all hope lost? Am I going to need to replace my iPod?

It's possible. Dryers can get pretty hot, depending on the setting you had it on.
Always check your pockets before putting clothes in the wash.

You are quite probably screwed, but leave it in rice in a warm place for at least 3 days, at least that's how long they say to leave a wet cellphone.

First, your iPod may need to fully charge which can take a couple hours. You may benefit from downloading the 2nd gen nano manual if you haven't already. If after allowing it to charge for a bit longer and still no life (try this with the iPod ejected from the computer to see if it will power on) then there may be another problem.

I have just bought an ipod nano 2gb and im using windows xp pro. I inserted the itunes cd as the guide told me to and after clicking next a few times it asked me to plug in my ipod to check if it needs formatting. I did this and it has been formatting ever since!!! 12 hours ago now! the bar on the box just gets to the end and then goes back to the start again and the nano screen just continually flashes do not disconnect.
