Help my falling snow to FALL

I have tried this tutorial at: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/snow.htm. I'm using Flash CS4 on the MAC.
But when I run it, nothing happens, and I was wondering if someone could help me with solving the problem because I'm new to ActionScript 3.0.
When I run the test movie I get an error:
1087: Syntax error: extra characters found after end of program. OnClipEvent (load) {
Also, it doesn't say in the tutorial, so I created a new layer first and then dragged the snowflake symbol onto the stage and then added the script to it. (now there are 2 layers on my timeline). Although it doesn't say to make a new (2nd) layer. Surely you can't do everything on the same layer, because you need to add 2 different scripts which you can't do to one layer.
Is there anything else I can provide so someone can help better?
Thanking you in advance for your help.

You appear to be following an AS2 tutorial, and this is the AS3 forum.  If you continue to have problems you should post in the AS2 forum.
The error is indicating you have some extra code hanging off the end of your file, which could mean somewhere before the end of your code you missed closing  some function or loop or something proerly so it appears there is code left hanging.

    It's definitely advised to have a backup, but that is not normally a reason why a download does not work.
    So, can you try to post the exact message you got please. And, please post the exact steps you took to get where this happened.

    put the code (that's not in a function body and excluding variable declarations and import statements) in a function body and call it using the timer class.

  • [help] Making a snow effect in livetype?

    Hello, I'm sort of a new member here at Apple Discussions, and I have a question about LiveType.
    Is there any way to make like a snow effect in LiveType? Because we're making a holiday special broadcast for our school, and I want to make like a falling snow effect (like real snow, not snow text.)
    If anyone knows, please post, thank you in advance. :]

    Hi(Bonjour)!
    Export your livetype movie, import it in a new iMovie project and use the free "snow" filter from cf/x company:

    need help updating to snow leopard

    Hi Billy,
    First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
    then you must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
    Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

    It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.

  • Setting javascript to make falling snow

    I have managed to make a flake in Edge to flash randomly after following a tutorial on lynda.com
    My javascript knowledge is fairly limited but I used the following code on a trigger inside the flake symbol I made:
    var randomFrame = Math.floor(Math.random()*5000);
    var maxWidth = $('#Stage').width();
    var randomX = Math.floor(Math.random()*maxWidth);
    var randomY = Math.floor(Math.random()*300);
    sym.play(randomFrame);
    var myName = sym.getSymbolElement();
    $(myName).css({'position':'absolute','top':randomY+'px','left':randomX+'px'});
    This all works as a randomly appearing flake which doesn't look like snowfall. Can anyone give me advice on code to make the symbol float down from the top of the stage and repeated lots of times to look like snowfall?
    Any help we be really appreciated,
    Many thanks

  • Help! My screen is falling off!

    Hi. I almost died today when I lifted my lid up and noticed that the screen wasn't attached to the unibody! I'm wondering if anyone can help me, I got my MacBook just over a year ago now and have had the screen replaced (by an Apple Certified place) because of a crack. I'm wondering if this could be the result of a dodgy job? I don't know what to do, and I need my computer for uni. I believe I did buy an extended warrenty for it from the place that I got it from, will this still be covered now that I've had repairs done to it?

    If you used an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) your extended AppleCare warranty (provided you have one) would cover it.  It's an unusual problem, so I would expect the screen repair you had may be the cause.

  • Need help in installing Snow Leopard without DVD drive

    Hi,
    I have a White Macbook 2008 model with 2.1 ghz processor and 1 GB Ram. The dvd rom is not working in my machine. It spits out the dvd's 99 out of 100 times.
    I need to upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6. Apple has sent me a single disk to install snow leopard.
    I am not willing to invest in new dvd drive either internal or external. Needed help on ways to install snow leopard please apart from using the dvd option.
    I do have a Firewire 400 cable but i do not know anybody anymore who has a mac machine with 400 port.
    Hence the cable is also useless and i cannot connect to anyother macbook and do the install using their drive.
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Rahul

    There are no direct options. Find a friend with a Mac that has a working optical drive. Buy an 8GB USB flash drive. Partition and format it for the Mac then clone the mounted DVD to the flash drive. Take it back to your computer and boot from the flash drive.
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the disk icon for the flash drive.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.

  • Help Re-Installing Snow Leopard

    I got a new MacBook Pro today to replace my black MacBook from 2007, which I'm passing down to my husband. Tonight, in attempting to get it clean as a whistle for him, I put in the snow leopard disks to reinstall. First, I went through and erased the hard disk. I had told it to pass with 0's, but when I saw how long it would take, chose the "skip" option. At that point, I noticed the harddrive had been renamed "Unknown" so I erased again and changed the name back to Macintosh HD. I proceeded with the installation and after about 15 minutes it told me the installation could not be completed because some files could not be installed; restart and try again. I restarted, but as I get to the screen where it tells me to select the disk on which to install Mac OS X, there are no options available. When I went to disk utility, it appears the computer isn't recognizing that a harddrive is in there at all.
    Thankfully, apple care lasts til June, but I as they're closed for business hours, I was hoping someone could help me here. Thanks!

    Generally speaking, if Disk Utility does not see the drive, this means that the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced.
    You could try removing the hard drive & reinstalling it, but that's the only suggestion I have!

  • Help needed with Snow Leopard/Lion partitions

    I'm still using Snow Leopard but will be installing Lion soon. First I want to make sure I don't lose the few Rosetta/PPC apps that I still need.
    I've read several threads about partitioning to create a dual boot for both Lion and SL.
    What I want to do is this, and I'd appreciate a bit of help/guidance:-
    I have two external FW HDs, daisychained. Both of them have two partitions.
    External Drive A (500Gb) has one major partition (let's call it (1) ) that I want to leave for backing up everything, which I already do using CarbonCopyCloner. (I don't use Time Machine).
    The other partition (2) is for specific files. When I get round to installing Lion, I will continue to backup on this HD, so the old PPC apps on it presumably won't work.
    External Drive B (300 Gb) has one partition (3) that I use for backing up music files, and it won't matter what, if anything, Lion changes in them.
    The other partition (4) on this drive is free and has about 30 Gb free. What I want to do is use my Snow Leopard Install disc and install SL onto this partition (4), including Rosetta, make it bootable and then add the few PPC apps that I need into it.
    AFTER all that, I'm going to Install Lion onto my iMac (with the extarnals unplugged).
    So in theory, I can boot either into the iMac drive itself for Lion, or partition (4) for Snow Leopard.
    Questions-
    Does this look like it'll work?
    Does it matter that I haven't installed Lion before creating the SL Boot in (4)? Seems that several people have had problems installing Lion BEFORE trying to rescue PPC apps.
    When backing up my music files from a Lion environment to (3), does it matter that the drive shares a SL partition (4)?

    10.6 Ships with Symbol.ttf rather than Symbol.dfont. It's in /System/Library/Fonts/
    If you absolutely need the .dfont you could pull it off an old system. I have one handy and can sent you a link, but the ttf is probably better to use. See attached for version difference between ttf, dfont and the windows SYMBOL.TTF.
    The new one has ~30 more characters added to it and matches the windows version.

  • Need HELP with installing snow leopard!!

    I am trying to install snow leopard on my one year old iMac. Install is successful. Restate works. But then I get the spinning wheel with a blank screen. No dock...no hard drive icon...nothing. I reminded from the disc twice and still the same thing. Help!!! Need suggestions.

    Before you go off and buy anything I suspect your machine came with Leopard on it (V10.5.x) and you bought your machine during the transition time where Snow Leopard (10.6.x) just came out and Apple was giving upgrades to customers buying during the transition. If that is the case your machine should work fine with the 10.6.x disc you were provided. You should have received a 10.5.x and 10.6.x disc if that is the case, you can easily tell by looking at the media.
    Click on the Apple symbol in the upper left of your screen and see what version of OS X is loaded on your system. If it's 10.5.x then you know you're on Leopard. If you want to upgrade to Snow Leopard there are some things every user should do prior to upgrading. First is BACKUP your system either using Time Machine or create a clone using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. A backup is the #1 priority.
    Next then you can simply pop the Snow Leopard 10.6.x disc in your computer and follow the on-screen instructions. If for some reason it doesn't work then contact Apple.

  • Need help upgrading to Snow Leopard

    OK...I'm finally ready to upgrade to Snow Leopard.
    I am currently runninag a 2.4 ghz Intell iMac (late 2007), 4 gig ram runing OS 10.4.11.
    I have purchased an external harddrive, and created a bootable clone of my existing 10.4.11 OS.
    I also purchased a full Snow Leoperd box set...complete with iLife.
    Now...my understanding is that there no longer is an "easy" option to erase-and-install, or archive-and-install, as the installation now does the installation automatically.  (I understad that there is a manual wayto erase-and-install).  From what I read, the installation will upgrade my OS, leaving any comaptable sprograms in tack, and moving incompatable programs to a non-active folder.
    I currently have several programs that I know are not compatable with 10.6, specifially iLife 8, Quark 7, and Adobe CS3.  I will installing the most current version of these programs once the OS has been updated.
    I guess my question is...am I safe to just let the installer do the upgrade...keeping my existing software as it is...then try and install the newer versions of my software?
    For example...iLife 8 will not work with 10.6.  So...once I upgrade to 10.6 what will happen to iLife 8?  Can I just install iLife 11 right overtop of iLife 8?
    I guess...in the end...if something goes wrong I can always boot-up off of the 10.6 install disc and erase my HD and start from scratch...right?
    Thanks for any help.

    It looks like you're all set up, so go for it. The upgrade should work fine, and should manage your incompatible applications accordingly. There is no way to predict if a problem will arise, but you've got your bases covered if it does. If something goes awry then you have the clone that you can use to either restore your current installation, or use as a migration source after formatting and installing a fresh copy of Snow Leopard.
