HELP ! my ibook wont start after downloading 9.1 update

Hi
i decided to update my os 9.0 on my old ibook, and downloaded all the updates that needed to be installed, i started off with installing the 9.04 update, and after that was installed i ran the 9.1 update, during the installation the system promted for a reboot, and after that my ibook locks up when the "loading" bar is in the middle in the starting screen,,, i dont have much mac xpereince, so i would realy apprrecieate any help !

Hi, honkatped -
Just happened to be around.
Okay - if it boots okay with Extensions Off, then it would appear you have an extensions conflict of some kind.
Re-installing the OS would not fix that. Instead, it will take a bit of work to find what is causing the problem - it may be an incompatibility with some 3rd-party software item.
First, restart - immediately hold down the Spacebar, keep it held down until Extensions Manager opens; it should do that just before extensions start to load (just before the march of icons across the screen starts).
Once Extensions Manager opens, select Mac OS Base from the Selected Set pulldown menu near the top of the Extensions Manager window. Then continue the startup.
If that boots okay, select Mac OS All as the Selected Set in Extensions Manager, and restart. If that boots okay, then some more work will be needed to isolate the offender. Let us know how it goes to that point.

  • Help please PC wont start after i combined double sided and singlesided RAM

Can anyone help me please. I have a neo2 platinum board and 3200+ cpu. i used to have 2 X  512MB(double sided) ddr400 Ram PH brand. When i bought and added NCP brand 2 X  512MB(single sided) my PC wont start anymore. It just powers up for 1/2 a second then dies. I tried putting back my old RAM and resetting the BIOS but it still wont start.

thanks everyone i have isolated the problem...the culprit is the psu  i have another problem though, after i bought a new psu, the vga card is not detected from time to time...i also get the BSOD upon exiting windows and I cannot access the BIOS, it just freezes after I press the DEL key.

  • MacBook Pro wont start after 10.8.3 update

So I tired installing the 10.8.3 update from the app store  and every time I did it I got the response that it wasn't downloaded properly, first on bad Internet at my house, then at school I used the really fast Internet and it was the same problem. Then I came here found that a bunch of people had the same problem, so I downloaded the combo update from apple.com from a recommendation by someone here
Now its one big shitstorm, after taking a half hour to install on my MacBook Pro ( its a 13 inch i got last august so its brand new),  during the install I was on chrome and it kept freezing about 75% of the install complete I tried to shut every program running, that just froze the entire computer for about 5 minutes, let it finish and it said it needed to restart. It said that something couldn't close and it needed to be force quit, so I did that and let it restart.
It turned off, and started the loading screen with the apple and the gear below it spinning, then it froze, a half hour later it didn't change, i shut it off by holding down the power button and tried to start it again now it will go until the screen with the apple and spinning gear comes and then it will just shut itself off after about 2 minutes, tried safe mode, the bar at the bottom will load about 40% then it shuts off,
What do I do now, anything on my own? can i try and take it into the apple store or did I probably loose everything?

It sounds like your internal drive is failing, or has failed. What backups do you have?

I am having the same problem. I can't seem to find whats triggering this problem. However I have gotten back into the osx one time, but it asked me to type in my pw to unlock the keychain. So I did, but it said that my pw was invalid. Did anyone else get this as well? If so, please respond with your solution. Thanks so much.

Please help me, I bought my imac desktop 6 weeks ago and it kept suggesting to download  osx yosemite. Well I did evtually and the Mac

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Ibook wont start after watchin dvd

I was watching a movie dvd, it started sticking as they often do, but this time it was different it froze and theimage was flickering. normally the dvd player reports a failure and quits and everything is fine. nothing this time. not even alt control del worked. i had to turn off from main on/off. i turned back on nothing only wizzing noises. i have tried all the keys, holding space to eject disk whilst starting, c, d. only once the apple logo appeared but hung. since then nothing. what can i do. i can't get the dvd out.i have turned it on and off many many times no improvement.
    thanks

    Hi Heidi....welcome to the discussions.
You want to hold down the click button on your track pad as the computer starts up, not the space key. If that still doesn't work, you can start up in Open Firmware by holding cmdoption+of as the computer starts. At the prompt, type eject-cd and press return. It should eject then, and your computer will continue to start up.
    Hope this helps!

  • Firefox will no longer start after downloading the last update

Yesterday (2/7/14) I downloaded the latest Firefox update. While the update was being installed I got a Parse error message. When I tried to restart Firefox nothing happened. I tried reinstalling Firefox (both with and without uninstalling the old version) and Firefox would start at the end of the installation process but after I closed Firefox it would not restart. I tried starting it in the safe mode but that didn't work. When I use the Task Manager Processes tab I see Firefox open for about a second and then it disappears.
I was finally able to get it to open by using Windows Explorer to set the compatibility mode of the Firefox.exe file to "Windows 2000" but I don't think that is a good solution.
Note that I am running the Windows XP Professional operating system.

Yes, I uninstalled Firefox, deleted the program folder, and then reinstalled Firefox. Firefox still would not start until I set the compatibility to Windows 2000.

  • Aperture 3.1 & Lightroom 3 wont start after 10.6.5 update

Since I updated to 10.6.5 the whole system has slowed down. The biggest problem is Aperture and Lightroom stop responding when opening up. The strange thing is is that if I click on Aperture to open I get the spinning wheel until I click on "software update" then as if by magic, aperture pops up on the screen. Any ideas guys

How much hard drive space do you have to spare? Did you repair permissions and restarted your computer after you updated?

my ibook wont start up properly it either tells me to restart or the screen freezes so i have to restart it never makes it to the login screen...what should i do??

    Hello Isabel,
If you have any additional RAM installed remove it and see if it will start. Defective RAM can cause kernel panics and so can a loose AirPort card. Here are the instructions for removing/adding RAM.

  • Safari wont start after i installed avi player any suggestions?

safari wont start after i installed a avi player any suggestions?

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Restart normally. Open Terminal in the Utilities folder. Paste the commands in the Terminal application to avoid typos:

Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted.  It will not be echoed to the screen. Press RETURN again. Now paste each of the following at the prompt and press RETURN after each.
